It's illegal federally technically, but regardless of that it contributes significantly to local air pollution. Like, the guy driving behind you is going to notice and smell it. It's bad. And with the number of miles you're going to drive catless on a street car vs a track-only car you're absolutely harming the environment. You can get good sound and performance with catbacks and CARB-exempt headers on most cars. That little extra percentage you're getting by losing the cat is really only going to be measurable in 10ths of a second on the racetrack. Which matters when you're competitively wheel-to-wheel racing or doing time attacks, but you won't even notice it on the street or casually tracking the car. Plus it's a good way to fail sound at Laguna Seca. It's just all around not a good way to unlock sound or performance on modern cars. There's better ways to do it with better results that don't choke the people you drive by, that aren't illegal, and that don't harm the environment.

NiftyFiftyFour if your state reffed non correctable your screwed you have to get a smog so putting it back to stock is the only choice

Put your car back to stock to comply with California emissions laws or pay the $1000 fine when you're able to go to court.
