I can't help but find it a bit ironic that this whole time he's told he should be on a road bike, not a mountain bike, but it hasn't been a problem until his mountain bike finally breaks on an actual mountain.

Next time the chain goes off, hook it to one of the gears, lift your rear wheel, rotate the pedal and make sure the chain catches the gear. Then shift the rear gear back and forth while still rotating the pedal while the rear wheel is still lifted to check

Well guys, though I may have suffered my first crash today, I consider it a valuable lesson! It could have been a whole lot worse and it made me realise I'm not completely invulnerable (something we all need reminding of at some point). BUT despite the accident and the broken bike, at least I definitely won the selfie competition....OR DID I? - What was your favourite of the 6 selfies? Deliver your verdict below. 'We ride at dawn' is my favorite although Sharla's 'Yasashi Ikemen' is a close second. My challenge idea: For the duration of the day, adopt the most 'proper' Japanese etiquette and mannerisms while speaking / behaving. The intensity should range between modern Japanese etiquette and the stereotypical as seen / read in films, TV and books. Throw in a Haiku or two every once and a while during a conversation, preferably while glaring at the horizon and contemplating life or where to eat next ...;-) Some Shamisen music in the background would be nice, for the dramatic effect. Challenge idea #2: The episode should be similar in style to those quirky Japanese talk/game shows i.e, LOUD, annoying sound effects, big colourful fonts, general weirdness...

So little hint, don’t shift while going up hill, it puts stress on the chain and the derailer and if I had to guess was the cause of your little chain issue. If it wasn’t this is still a good tip to keep in mind, shift before the hill, not on it.

I'm voting for "My life is better than yours" just because it captures the very essence of selfie culture. This social critique adds something inheritely artistic to the picture with a comedic - yes, almost sarcastic - twist to it. On a scale from "1" to "sick selfie" i rate it a "so sick"!

Considering your "supporting" friends often leave you behind as they cruise ahead with the support and supply car, you should carry a small bike repair kit, with patch kit and multitool, and a mini floor pump. You probably want to clean and lube your chain every few days at least and learn how to put it back on. Tip: don't ride with the chain crossed from the biggest cog on either end to the smallest cog of the other, to avoid it coming off.

A vote for Sharla's "Yasashii Ikemen". I'm a bit concerned about Chris' bike. Whenever you crash a bike, things could get damaged on the bike. Spokes can get broken, rims can bend, but probably the most problematic is the rear derailleur getting bend. That can cause bad shifting, but what could be catastrophic is that it could go into the spokes at the worst time and you could crash. If you were at speed when this happens, the bike could go from high speed to a dead stop. You can imagine what that could be like. Even if you come out unscathed, the damage to the bike could be pretty heavy. You might need to replace the wheel, derailleur, chain, etc. So, my advice to you is to have the bike checked out. Even if there's not much damage, it never hurts for the bike to get some TLC.

Even though it only has up to five options, you could place polls in there at certain points in a video. Probably make it easier to count answers instead of comments and easier for us too instead of scanning 1,000+ comments of the same thing repeated. Just a suggestion for use._ ^^

It sounded like the lower pulley of the derailleur was touching the spokes. It happens when the limit screws aren't adjusted properly, then you can overshift easily and the chain goes off.
