Good info. Thank you. Once you take actual expenses you can't switch back to mileage in following years so keep that in mind.
@JourneyWithCameron
@JourneyWithCameron 2 года назад
Thanks I appreciate it! I heard that if you do mileage the first year you can then do actual expenses the following and keep switching. I will be filling last years taxes with miles so I’m gonna figure it out soon. I was doing contract work with FedEx before I started doing it this way
@outstate9218
@outstate9218 2 года назад
@@JourneyWithCameron I believe you can switch from doing standard mileage to actual expenses but then I don't think you're able to go back. It depends on how long you're planning on keeping the van. The longer you plan on keeping it the more of the standard mileage tends to make sense. A lot of people have used the deduction where you expense the entire van in the first year but then in the next year you don't have that expense. You also have something called re-capture or if you go to sell the van that sale can be seen as income so definitely talk to your accountant
@JourneyWithCameron
@JourneyWithCameron 2 года назад
@@outstate9218 oh yeah that all makes sense for sure. Definitely will be speaking to my accountant about all of this so I can make the IRS happy lol thanks for taking your time to discuss your experience and understanding of it all. Super appreciated! 🙏

Thanks for the vids. Informative. I have a question and would appreciate your opinion (or any of you fine folks out there!) Looking at Sprinter vans for this purpose. The common 140" wheelbase or the 158" wheelbase (170" is too large for me to own/park right now) In your experience would the 140" wb serve well enough or would a little more space for cargo be a benefit? Would the 158" provide more opportunities for larger hauls to make more $$? Both are high ceiling and same vans except for the length. Thanks and Merry Christmas!!
@jonmaclin8344
@jonmaclin8344 Год назад
I don't have all the answers sway, but my personal advice. I would save a lil money for that first week he mentioned. Prob 1k or so. Then get whatever the biggest option you're considering, because better to have more space than not enough. Then if I felt like I needed to downgrade I always have that option and will save money. 👍🏾🧠
@obhobo
@obhobo Год назад
@@jonmaclin8344 thanks. I found a 2006 t1n 158" wheelbase. And agree fully with your comment. Mine was used to transport wheelchair-bound people and is more passenger/windows than cargo. I'm happy I waited to find a more liveable van that I can also use to make a little $$ delivering packages.

@iamnotafraid Год назад
Not too sure about insurance, but as far as whether you need a commercial driver's license (CDL) or not, it depends on the gross vehicle weight rating (Or GVWR for short) of the vehicle you're driving. If it's more than 26,000 pounds, you do need a CDL. Other scenarios where you'd need a CDL are if you're driving a passenger vehicle that's designed to carry (if memory serves me) 12 passengers or more, such as a school bus, or special cargo that requires endorsements on your CDL, like hazmat as you already mentioned.

What sized van would you recommend to someone coming into the business? 1500, 2500, 3500? I'd like to buy a Promaster with the dual purpose in mind to run my handyman service out of it while I am not running shipments. I'd probably stick with local trips within my state and make runs when my jobs get slow, but I also don't want to limit myself to a smaller van if there's more gain to be had from purchasing a larger model... The Promaster 1500-3500 doesn't have much variance between total payload (maybe 600lbs) and towing capacity (1500 can tow the most). You maybe get a little more length out of the 2500/3500. Also, is the height of the cargo area a significant factor in this? What is the most important factors in choosing a van? Which model will I stand to profit the most from? Any feedback would be mucho appreciated my dude. Thx for posting your knowledge!

All depends on budget ect. I recommend atleast a medium roof or high roof. Could be Transit, ProMaster or even the Mercedes. The bigger you get and the more payload, the more you can load. So hence bigger budget allows for a better van and the ability to do more. Some are long enough for 3 pallets. Mine can only do 2 and my payload is under 3k

Great video. I have a CDL-A. And have been driving an 18 wheeler for a couple of years. I want to get into the expediting cargo van business. Does having a CDL-A license give me an advantage in this business?

@@bobdeanbags9087 I’m actually trying to buy my cargo van but I’ve been hearing there isn’t much profit but I’m willing to try it at my own risk but it would be helpful to listen to other people
