This breakthrough is ahead of its time. In a few years we won’t be able to push the meta any further in a lucid state, and people will solely advance it through dream prophecies and Ayahuasca spirit journeys
It was literally me at a computer watching mango frame by frame and being like "wait... he doesn't back flip! Do I backflip??" and then I watched myself and I was like "OH MY GOD I BACKFLIP" and then real life worked the same way essentially lol
This is so funny 😂 I can't believe a Falco as well thought out and calculated as you has never connected the dots on this lol. I guess I can see it if you only use auto cancel bair with the A button. Can't wait to see what you can do with this unlocked!
yeah, its definitely the case that you initial jump direction (whatever angle you hold last frame of jumpsquat) has way more influence on your momentum than any drift (any direction you hold afterwards). it's kinda unintuitive but super useful if you can master different combinations of jump angle + drift
I just hopped ingame to check, I always did it correct just by accident. I think it's pretty natural if you use cstick for aerials. Getting the right one with A is a little unnatural imo
duuuude this is big! I always get grabbed back-airing sheik and always had been doing the backflip, hopefully implementing this will stop me getting grabbed so much lmao
Damn I’m thinking about it this just might how backflips work in general? Like maybe you’re able to just drift back further with backflips but you’re able to switch your drift from left to right easier if you aren’t backflipping. A small but lowkey insane discovery👍
It would be hilariously fucked up if ginger still dreaming. Waking up excited to try this till it isn't working and checks his channel and this video never happened. lmfaoo
Frame perfect bair brings you closer to shield. For example a frame 1 falco fair will land 2 kicks on shield. Frame 2 will land 3 kicks. Fun fact frame 1 aerials will let you fast fall 1 frame faster
Fantastic explanation. Thank you for sharing this tech discovery to push the entire metagame forward, unlike Mang0 who keeps secret tech like this to himself for years, while pretending to not know what a jumpsquat is LOL.
Same principle with Falcon when approaching around spacies uptilt. If you forward jump, you'll generally have too much forward momentum. By neutral or back jumping, you'll have much more control of your drift
There are many different jump variations and like you said a directional jump gives you momentum you have to fight against if you want to attempt a bait. Like you said a lot of this is kinda second nature for people but it is good to keep in mind which jump type is best for which situation.
i had this same breakthrough in reverse. i realized that backflipping and delaying sh aerials covers almost everything that beats sh aerials or at least keeps you in a good position
Back when I used to play melee like 4 hours a day for 7 years (and was still terrible) i would just naturally do this with Falco just cause I always felt like the C-stick better aerial control. Too bad I'm not a beast like this Ginger guy.
I don't think I consciously knew that there was a difference, but I have for a long time jumped straight up when I intend to fade away, or even fade in with bair. I remember watching mang0 years ago and seeing him fade in with bair and still beat shield grab and thinking "well his opponents just suck," but then watching more, I realized he was jumping straight up, WHIFFING back air, and then fading in and hitting them with the weak hitbox as he was falling, so he would actually AC bair but still turn it into a late hit on shield. I incorporated that into my game and then the muscle memory just kind of bled into my fade away punishes
To preface this I am by no means a good player but I have always done backairs like this. I quickly hit the x button and flick the C stick in the backwards direction. I almost never use the A-button for aerials. I think the reason why I started doing this is from when I started playing marth back when i first picked up the game. I was watching pewuniversity and he did fading double fairs this way.
I had a dream about always pulling a special item as peach while pressing Z and using the dpad before. It was called zpadding in the dream. I then explained it to some people at a local in 2014 and as I was showing them I pulled a stitch and a bomb. So dreams are no joke lol. The melee dream meta is the future
Surely this is a meme right 💀 I use A for ac bair if the drift make sense since it’s easier but I always use c if I need to go the other way. I thought this was common knowledge lmaoo. Plus why have you never just asked mango? Ginger is going to be so good at melee now lmao
I've only recently started learning falco so I can't use this, but this is the kinda game knowledge i love to tuck away and im sure will help me in the future. thanks!
Hey just some advice. You can def do it. The way I AC bair with c stick is I use the palm of my hand to flick the stick, but this only works on the left side. On the right side I just move my fingers really fast lmaooo so good luck on that one it takes some practice.
You still need to make sure that you don't backflip when you jump! It's still very easy to do unintentionally. You might already do the correct method though!
For those who want more info on this, Gravy on the 20GX youtube channel has an in depth video about this concept called Dissecting the Mechanics of Jump.
