In this week’s episode, I’m back in the woods with my Minelab Manticore metal detecting a site that has produced countless 1700s coins, relics, and everything in between! I thought I’d had a lack-luster day until I got home and researched what I found… I had NO IDEA this was so significant! One of the best parts of metal detecting is that we’re always finding so many things to research, and something in this video took me down a rabbit hole in a big way! Enjoy!

Stef, I will take history over a coin anytime. And you have a knack for digging items of real historical value. And after all, you do get (at least) your share of great coins, which I love to see. What I am clumsily attempting to say is there is never reason for you to apologize. BTW, I noticed you are now over 5K subs; Congrats!

Hi Stef, you are lucky to have the amount of buttons you are able to find. Us on the West coast don’t have the history to have allot of buttons. We dig some rivets and such but at least it is easier to tell coins I guess. Thanks for taking us along on your adventure… John

Signals tend to disappear when you disturb the ground. Simply because rusty nails or bits of metal create what they call an Aura/Ora. Rust or other metal will leach into the ground creating a signal an aura our metal detectors pick up. Once we disturb the ground these auras are broken up and the signal goes away. 😉😊 Happy Hunting!

That is correct, to a point. I don’t believe there was iron in this hole. However I suppose just as with the iron halo effect, other metals can certainly have the same end result when you open the hole and hear nothing when you KNOW it’s there. 😆 That iron halo is the reason we will always dig bent nails - because it “could be” treasure, lol! @@ChristianThomas-wf5dl we never see cartwheels in the US, possibly because we had started using our own federally-issued cents in 1793 (at least that’s my best guess). I’ve seen maybe half a dozen found in 7 years? I managed a 1799 halfpenny which is a rare find here. The British halfpennies are almost the same size and weight as a large cent, so after we established a mint and before British currency was demonetized in 1857 in the US, I suspect the halfpennies were used as full pennies. Basically, in the colonial era, the US got whatever the British decided give us. 🤷🏼😂 Thanks for watching!

Haha, well that’s good! I actually edited out a bunch of REALLY loud zooms, lol. Just one of those irritations when you’re digging on the side of the road - constant reminder you’re not in colonial America. 😂
