I had to leave Bangkok.... & leave there fast ! 

I was getting worried about you as not heard from you for a while. Glad you are home safe and well.

I thought something had happened, people were asking on the Steady Eddie channel for your welfare. I too had to cut my stay in Thailand short, sadly, i was with Thai Airways, going back to the uk 4 wks early cost me '£22, i considered i returned to the uk cheap, i changed my flight with Thai head quarters. Geoff, we are all so glad your fighting fit again, just love you and your channel, your such a great character.

Watching this laying in my hotel room for the 5th day on two antibiotics and respiratory meds. Had to find cleaner air so I hopped a quick flight to Danang where it's much easier to breath. Being in my 60's I have to say you are spot on about our health being our greatest wealth. The air pollution is brutal this year and making me consider skipping SEA during the dry season as the burning is out of control throughout the region. Best wishes to you and glad you're feel better!

You made the right decision Geoff , best to be safe then sorry . Claiming on insurance is a nightmare . As we're getting older now I don't think I'l ever go there again .

Always book direct with the airline. Good decision to come home Geoff, that walk in the cold will do you the power of good. Cleans out the lungs. You can always return to Thailand anytime.

Hi Geoff... good to see you are fit and well, really enjoy your movies! Back in March 2022, just after things reopened after you know what, I visited Thailand again, but due to all those crazy entry requirements back then (pcr's and all that malarkey) I was pretty much forced to take out the Travel Insurance with Axa Thailand... This however came to my rescue when I fell ill on the day of my flight home... i'd made it to Swampy, but I was unable to board my flight with what turned out to be a nasty case of gastroenteritis, so I ended up taking a taxi to a private hospital where I spent the next 3 nights... Anyway, the surprising thing for me was that there was no excess or upfront payment with a claim the money back scenario... 100% of the bill was fully covered and agreed between the hospital and Axa... One to note if anyone is heading to Thailand and want full coverage... I won't use anyone else but Axa Thailand now... a very easy website to navigate as well! Cheers!

Good to see you fit and well, flights I always book direct, my flight home KLM end January canceled, they gave me two days notice no flight, They booked me on to same time flight one day later , this week I received a voucher £684-00 towards next flight , superb service, no hassle at all plus had extra day on holiday, got to be happy Phil

Glad you are safe and much better Geoff. I had a very similar episode in Bangkok. I was in Pattaya for some time and no problems. I then stayed at a hotel in Bangkok near the airport link Baiyoke area and had the air con blasting cold air like you do. On the last day I was feeling total rubbish to put it mildly. I flew home and then a few days after it got better. If you are doing the cooking videos that will be great. I really like them and then having a go at cooking it. Take good care and keep up the great work.

Glad your better Geoff, a good one to add to your list for the next thailand visit is a day trip to Ayutthaya from bangkok - 1hr from bang sue station on the old train like the trip to kanchanaburi - 20 baht on the SRT train each way, then 200 baht for a day hire of a moped when you get there. Me and the mrs did the day trip including taxi to station and back for less than £15. cheers

Get well Geoff as most guys will not understand getting sick for elderly people is magnified by not having the same resistance as younger persons. Brits are notorious for having weak Respiratory systems due to a damp climate which peaked in the 70's when Brits went to Spain & were fatally succumb to Legionnaire's decease. Best to sleep with a window open if you have to have A/C (same air just circulates in the room). I've spent my long life travelling t'World & believe me you got off lucky LOL Bitten by a Venomous Spider with treatment too far away is very scary

Back one week from Thailand and every symptom you talked about I had the same, I put it down to picking something up over songkran and being socked to the skin for a week. Still not 100% right and glad I found this video.

I am glad you ok Geoff. I had a fall in Pattaya and quite badly injured my leg with a nasty gash and potential infection. I had taken out my insurance with Allclear which is covered by Zurich. They paid for my taxi to Bangkok and put me in one of the top hospitals as an inpatient, and although the admin was a pain as it always is, I was properly looked after. This is the first time I have had a positive outcome with the medical side of my insurance and based on my experience, I would recommend. My previous insurers in 2020 suggested I went to the local Thai clinic which even the hotel manager shook his head at. Anyway, the main thing is you're ok now.

There is no wealth better than health. You made the right decision for you, and glad to see you healthy and happy! Keep on smiling!

Glad you're on the mend Geoff. Doxycycline is good for chest infections but it can react with sunlight so be careful if taking it in Thailand

Dammit Geoff, i know how much you were looking forward to this extended trip and how much you would have wanted to stay if at all possible, lets all keep our fingers crossed for the Irish lottery for you! the last three times i have been to Thailand i have been onto the site we usually buy from and if you select the flight you want and then scroll down it will show you the price for booking with the airline direct, it's surprisingly not much more than the cheapest (usually about £70 more for the return trip) i booked with the airline for exactly the reason you mentioned and just in case Thailand went into lockdown again. good to see you are clearly on the mend mate, i think the treatment in Pattaya City hospital would have been far better than the hospital in Bangkok, but no use crying over spilled milk, lets just hope things take an upturn and you can get back out soon, in the meantime i look forward to "Cooking with Carter" remember Geoff........KEEP SMILING!! beep beep!!!

You're spot on Geoff - health comes first ,glad you are getting better. Happened to me once back in about 2010, was up in Isan and collapsed with sudden chest pains. The doc at the village clinic had a listen and advised me to return to the UK. Turned out to be an empyema for which I spent a month in hospital ! Ironically I was due in Pattaya end of next week but a week ago I had my 2nd brain bleed so that's a change of plans lol. Thank goodness for travel insurance eh?

I would have gone to public Bangkok hospital, they are pretty good and not expensive, Im in Canada and our medical is useless, just got home from Thailand and loved Song krang, keep smilin buddy !

I am fairly sure the air con - particularly sleeping with it on - has a lot to do with Europeans visiting hot countries suffering as you did Geoff , during my last trip in December to Bangkok I turned the AC off at night and didn't have any chest / respiratory problems which I normally get.

Hi Geoff, I have booked on to a new direct flight from Perth, Western Australia to Bangkok (6th October to 19th October) and return for the amazing price of $301(140 GBP) in total with Jet*, 6hrs 40 mins each way. I can't believe the price travelling with a 7kg cabin bag only. Hopefully, I will see you there this year 2024 as we were there together in October 2023 but we didn't bump into each other. I have taken a note of that anti-biotic you advised for the Bangkok Flu, "Doxycycline," just incase. Cheers Peter E.

I didn't have to fly home early, but I once got a leg infection from a bug bite that I wouldn't stop itching. My doctor in the US said it was so badly infected that I was a couple of days away from gangrene and losing the leg. That was scary.

Good stuff. But remember to select the bonus ball in the Irish lotto. Okay it halves the odds but doubles your chance of winning. I won the 49's similar game with similar odds 3 times in 2 weeks recently!. After 8 months from last doing it on average 3 times a week!.

Alright mate.. Exact same thing happened to me in BKK 2 weeks ago. Chemist told me it was the pollution and my Thai friends had it as well. Bought the antibiotics over the counter and took about 12 days to clear up. Now back in Glasgow and looking forward to next January heading to Pattaya for a few days before going over to Bangkok for a few weeks 🍻 Take care mate..... Chok dee 🍻🙏

Too bad that you had to cut your trip short. I've been living in Pattaya for about 3 years now. Have not got sick yet, but I hear that a lot of foreigners have that illness that you described. I have been steering clear of the crowds and busy bars, hoping not to catch it.

Hi Geoff just to say I was in Bangkok and had the same problems coughing and feeling terrible I blamed the air con. I was given doxycyline I bought it over there at the pharmacy . Very strange sounding coughing like a horse cough. U did good getting home in the circumstances..

I had to leave early after 4 days.. lucky for me I was flying EVA in business to Heathrow from Bangkok and that was £75 to change flight and my Thai flight also in business class from Phuket to Bangkok was free to change. I'd actually went to a Thai travel agent looking for any flight home. The Thai fella sorted everything out with the original airlines. Once it was sorted I give him a 1,000 Baths for helping me out. I've also been in a Thai hospital in Hua Hin both ears were infected...I was in for 4 nights. The doctor bought students in...they looked at my eyes. I asked the doctor why they were looking at my eyes...he said that he'd only seen brown and blue eyes and never green eyes like mine before so he decided to show the students 😁. Later he came back to tell me I could leave the hospital.

Since i moved to Thailand I have been ill every year since it's the heat humidity the pollution it's a horrible country for health been here 10 years I would move back to UK 2 Moro if I could

I know how you felt Geoff. I got food poisoning in Bangkok three days before flying out and had to make a decision to go to the hospital the day flying out. Cost me a small fortune, but I couldn't wait to get back home. Just wanted out, and now I feel I should have stayed and changed flights, but it is a decision when you are not right.

Sorry you took Ill Geoff, your better off to go see a doctor in the uk rather than here, you don’t know what would have happened if you’d have stayed and gone to a local hospital. I avoid them places at all costs if I can. Your right, song Jean is coming up soon (April) but this year the government have said they are having 3 weeks of song kran as they want to get more people coming over spending money and they think that, having this madness go on for 3 weeks will attract more tourists. Most of us living here are probably going to either stay in or stay in the car when all the water splashing is going on. Anyway, glad you got sorted out and look forward to seeing you back here sometime soon.

Been in Thailand NOW for 8 weeks. 1st week couldn't leave the hotel room in Bangkok, coughing headache. 2nd week went to doctors on 25 tablets day, still couldn't breath. 3rd week felt bit better 4th week ok 5th week I felt ok 6th week the cough and headaches CAME BACK. put on oxygen in the doctors for a couple of days and more tablets. 7 th week still coughing and fever 8th week this week only today I feel better. This was the worst flu, virus, chest infection I have ever had. Luckily my thai wife took great care of me other wise I wouldn't went home. 9th week am going to extend my visa for another 4 weeks and start my travels around Thailand. I've been getting a cough that carries on for 6 weeks after I return to the UK after a month in Thailand. I'm not sure why, in the past couple of years, I've been getting this, and not the many years before. Maybe it's age, maybe it's from my building job. I hope you're ok. I hope it's just a sensitivity issue that you just need to avoid certain conditions. Yeh, the pharmacies are great, to a point. But this is something that goes beyond that. I'll make a note of that medication. I had something like you were describing. Coughing and ribs became so sore. Throat was a mess and was difficult to swallow. I blamed it on the pollution or bad AC. Wasn't fun.
