A highlight from one of my streams where I go on a rant about my immense dislike of complex math.

You and I are Kindred Spirits. Math is an acronym. Mental Abuse To Humans.

weather or not you enjoy math has a lot to do with how you are taught it (although obviously im not discounting the people that can't stand it in any capacity). in high school, my pre-calculus teacher was so bad i had started doubting i wanted to go into physics in university, but then when i took an intro calculus course in 12th grade, the teacher was such a g, and was fun to listen to. so now, while i still highly dislike actually DOING math, i put up with it so i can learn about all the cool shit physicists get up to.

Yeah, I can attest to this. Math started to get on my nerves was when the teachers in high school ruined it. Before Junior year, my math teachers were all pretty cool and had some ways to make class fun and engaging. But once Junior year came, the teacher's style just... 〽️ It didn't click with the modern environment and mindset of high schoolers...

Absolutely agreed. I've never been one to excel in math, but I do remember which teachers were great and therefore the math was more bearable for me, and which ones had me banging my head on my desk (not literally, but I did get that feeling). Teachers can either inspire someone to learn, with some instances resulting in yours for instance where there's so much inspiration you're willing to put up with the math to learn...or they can make you want to change directions on what you want to do altogether :/

As a STEM major, there is one proof in particular that made a somewhat easy concept just completely shut me down. The Epsilon-Delta definition of a limit. That shit is just... no. We already LEARNED how to define a limit I don't need all this extra work to say "you can make a number infinitely close to a point and there will be an equal number on the opposite axis" like yeah OF COURSE THATS HOW IT WORKS ITS A 2D PLANE. I dunno, I find that proofs are more like a "math history" sort of thing, how did we get here or whatever and that actually using applied mathematics is a much better teacher overall.

Fr tho, as a mech engineering major I have to do math for stuff like beam safety design, tool modeling, infrastructure, etc. It's math on more math on top of more math. Never once in my 3 years of college education have I needed to use that pointless limit definition. I do calculus legit all the time, but the Epsilon-Delta definition is the most useless thing I think I have ever learned in a math class.

Getting Madworld flashbacks. *Kreese:* There can only be one number one in this fight to the death! *Howard:* Well, DUH! It's a mathematical fact that there can only be one number one! *Kreese:* For the last fucking time, NOBODY SAID THERE'D BE MATH!!!!!!! *Both:* (singing) III BLAAAME OOOUR SCHOOOOOLS!

Hey guys, did you know that in terms of Thunder and academics, math is the most compatible for Thunder? Not only is it a part of STEM, which is comprised of various fields applicable to real life scenarios, math is used in all fields of STEM. This means that it is strong enough to handle Thunder's rants, and with its impressive proofs for triangle and epsilon-delta fuckery, you can rant about it all you like. There are also numbers like "80085", "3621", "69", "420", so it'd be incredibly easy for pepegas like the chat to clown on math. With its philosophical arguments and logic, one can easily prove that Thunder is cute, which is not a "false misinformation" as Thunder would say. No other academic field comes close to this level of compatibility.
