You never can tell what will freak birds out. My cockatiel had no problem with me vacuuming around his cage, but if I wore a new pair of pants, it was a 50/50 chance he would go berserk.
I would sometimes catch my quarter looking outside as if he wanted to go outside and the idea of going outside made him happy so I once brought a flower and a stick and he freaked out XDD He never looked out the window look that again
Yea birds are random as shit. They'll be fine with the most crazy stuff, and then lose their mind if you like... buy yourself a new toaster. Our bird hates anything made of cardboard. Just absolutely hates it all.
When we introduce new toys to our African Grey we set them on the ledge outside the cage until he feels comfortable with interacting with something new. Once he starts to play with it, we hang it in his cage.
Roman Jones A pink one insulted my hair when I got it cut. Then insulted my gender. Which is female. All I said was "I don't really like pink. It's not my thing" then it started insulting me ;-;
this shows how much this bird has bonded with you ... even though the offending yellow thing was still in the room, you were able to calm him down. So happy you know how to make him feel safe and loved. Your such an amazing Daddy to Max!
From my experience with a lot of animals a calm response from their human slave makes them know nothing bad will happen. my cat always checks my response and only freaks out if I do 😂
My conjure also disapproves of hanging up pants, rustling or stacking papers, using a stapler, or making coffee. And by disapproval I mean if I forget she's on my shoulder she'll bite me.
stelkin656 our umbrella fluffs like this when he does his morning and evening stretches. We have an older golden retriever dog. Our 'too will pant when asked what the dog says, then the 'too shakes his head just like the dog does then fluffs up like the fluffy dog. when asked what our other dog says (a lab) the 'too barks and does not fluff up.
I know right?? He is SO BEAUTIFUL. Apricot colour. Here in Aust they are/can be considered a pest in some areas, destroying whole roofs of houses. There was a huge problem in the 90's. Not sure how it's going now. Being a bird lover I LOVE cockies (it's what we call me em in Aust) .. So big & glorious. I also love them because they always know when it's going to rain. So when the cockies come and start squawking & hanging upside down & making a huge riot you know it's going to rain within 24 hours or less. I learnt this from an indigenous Australian & saw/heard all the rabble once and the cockies have been correct ever since I knew of this. Just amazing. I mean how do they know. Anyway, Max is gorgeous .. I love him all fluffed up but I guess that's him showing his "hey I'm like a big deal around here don't mess with me" look, I also love when all the feathers go down & they are small & sweet & seem comfortably happy :)
That would likely explain the fluffing up - our bird does that too - but the rocking? hmmm - Annnnnny way we can only surmise about what goes on in a birdie's brain.
My cockatiel lays all its feathers flat, flares its tail, spreads wings slightly, rocks side to side slowly and hisses rather loudly... interesting display to say the least.
Thanks. Understand that in this video Max appears fearful of the visual stimuli: the paper parasol. Because we've seen certain humans rock to self-sooth when stressed, anxious or fearful, were thinking that perhaps Max might be exhibiting that behavior this similar circumstance.
Linda Gilliam no he loves the color yellow he has a yellow block he does "naughty" things to (sorry for the disturbing mental image) it's just the size and shape and unfimilarity is why he's a big fluff ball in the vid
I have NO IDEA how MANY TIMES I watch Max, over and over and over!! I 💞LOVE💋💞 THAT BIRD!! Dan, I think when you talk to Max you raise the fun factor tremendously! Phyllis Diller?!?! TOO FUNNY! I especially love it when you give Max attitude RIGHT BACK! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ALL YOUR VIDEOS!! 😊Thank you for sharing your INCREDIBLE bird with us!!
Amazing,Max looks so different ! Maybe he thinks it's another bird, after all it gets bigger when Daddy puts up the umbrella just like Max does when he raises his crest and it's yellow like a sulphur crested.
AbductionFromAbove that's what owning a parrot does to you :3 just like owning a toddler people turn into just as silly and imaginative as the toddler or in this case bird toddler XD
I had no idea all those feathers could puff out like that. He looked like a velociaraptor at one point. It's those little moments when he's very quiet I would be very afraid of him lol.
I have never seen anyone invest as much love, attention or understanding of an exotic before.. I have 12 myself, but not a cockatoo. Subscribed awhile ago because I appreciate & admire even the simplest things you two "experience". Kudos!
I think this is my favorite Max video of all time. 2nd favorite are the "going to the vet" videos. Bless his little Maxie heart, though, I hate to see him get so stirred up. I love the way you calm him down. Dan, you are a good daddy.
Back in the '80's in L.A., my ex & I once found an abandoned German Shepherd puppy at our neighborhood park & took her home w/us, to later discover she had a marked dislike for Asian people w/umbrellas. She would take off after them every time a man or woman would walk past our home until we were forced to tie her up out back, or hold her on a leash even while sitting w/her in the front yard to avoid awkward, or possibly litigious encounters. All we could figure was that prior to our finding her, she had at some time been beaten by someone w/an umbrella, & since there was a substantial Asian demographic in our community, & they often used umbrellas to ward off the bright midday sunlight when going about their business nearby, they unwittingly became prime targets for the abused pup.
+TheSWolfe Oh, dear! I feel sorry for the abused dog, and for you. That is hard. Here it rains a lot, and umbrellas are extremely common most of the year. It would be hard having umbrella issues here.
Pacific Northwest? Yes, we were totally unprepared for a pup of Paisley's strength & soon-to-be substantial size, plus, I was approx. 7 mo's pregnant. She could wriggle out of any leash get-up, & frequently took me for what I'm sure were quite humorous-looking walks thru the 'hood. We meant well, but didn't factor in such things as emotional trauma. Animals (the human kind, too) often associate certain people/places/objects w/negative events, exhibiting strong negative reactions to them. Who can tell what they've endured prior to our arrival? On the other hand, birds, I'm told, can simply not like, or be afraid, of a specific shape, color, sound, etc., resulting in a fear or aggressive response. We get a giggle out of it on this end, but it's not so funny for them, I'd wager. But there's no way to ascertain what they like/don't like w/o presenting them w/it, so, it's a live & learn/trial & error adventure for both bird & person here, w/us as the lucky audience to Mr. Max's Poufy-tudeness!
+TheSWolfe I've never had a bird, so it's interesting to learn about bird behavior by watching Max. I could never handle a big dog. I'm just not strong enough.
Same here. Max was my 1st Net-Pet. Thru him, I discovered Gotcha & Pebble & realized what magnificent, intelligent beings birds, & Toos esp., really are. Yeah, it's been decades since I had a dog. I love 'em, but live in an apt. in the city, can't get around as well as I used to, & couldn't give them adequate space & exercise, so it's just me & LucyFur the EvilAngel, my 12 y.o. tuxedo cat, here now.
I laughed when Max's Dad said something about how Max looks like Phyllis Diller when his head feathers were puffed up. I had a little bantam rooster with long puffy head feathers that stuck up, and people said he looked like Diller as well.
I'm so addicted to your videos!!!!!!! I'm in love with Max too! He's so friggin' cute!!!!!! I love how he tilts his head and rocks back 'n forth almost to soothe himself when he's afraid!!!!
I saw a Raven do this in my back yard to chase away a Squirrel. Never in my life had I seen anything like it, it was wondrous. Like watching Mr. Max every day. Somewhere a giant is missing his fancy drink umbrella, no good will come of that.
Omg From 0:55-1:05 I died of laughter!! I love Max. He's such a nice buddy to have around. His "BIG Fluff Ball" Cracks me up. He looks like he's amazing to have around and hilarious. The first video I saw of him was when he was doing his voices. It cracked me up. My sister and I love watching you and Max! Have a good day! -Emily
AWW, BIG FLUFFY GOOFBALL PLAYING WITH THE WINDCHIMES!!! ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE!!! Rock a bye Max in the treetop. When the wind blows Maxwell will rock. Toes, toes, toes, belly, belly, belly and a beak, beak, beak finally got him to put his feathers down. Max you are too adorable. 🕊😨🌂☂️🌂☂️🌂☂️🌂☂️🌂☂️
I think this is the first time I've ever seen Max Fluff Ball...so funny! Daddy, we all know you meant well. You really are a good daddy to Max. Max is saying, "We are not amused!"
Major Maxwell Bird - Fluffball mode engaged! Can never get tired of going through your videos, watching really helps with my depression when i'm having a really bad day. You two are so lucky to have one another so much loves.
lol my african grey, Sadie, loves chewing on pencils so I thought " okay! I'll buy her some bamboo wood sticks, she'll love them!" She won't go near them! It's so funny to see the way birds react to new things.
