Dan: I just wanted you to know that You and Maxwell -- without knowing it or knowing me -- is getting me through a real hard patch, and I wanted you to know. My 27 year old son passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly on August 11th. Life as I knew it changed forever, and suddenly. I never knew such personal pain existed. In public, I put on a different face to give the illusion I was handling it okay. In private, and around family, I was pretty much inconsolable. Add to it that I'm a recovering alcoholic who put the bottle down Feb. 11th of this year. I didn't want to start drinking again to numb the loss like an idiot, and I didn't. I remembered how much I enjoyed watching your video's with Maxwell. I started watching them again, and your video's were instrumental in avoiding booze, and got my mind off things. They actually cheered me up and made me laugh, and started to heal my heart. I'm doing well, and tomorrow I celebrate 8 months complete sobriety. If you ever wonder or wondered if these video's of You Tube's favorite bird has made any kind of difference, You and Maxwell certainly have. Instead of doing something stupid, I'd watch Maxwell walk in circles, saying "HI", or opening and closing his cage door, or tapping something with his foot, or talking to you, or attacking his toys. It cheered me up, Dan. Thank you for taping and posting your domestic ventures with Maxwell, and Thank you Maxwell for being Maxwell. Your friend, Bill
I too am sorry for the loss of your young son. Dan and Max also help me find joy in small things. The things Maxwell Bird gets himself into. I like that Dan keeps it PG, so the whole family can watch. Congratulations on your daily achievement s.
I think Max as a male bird is screeching in a territorial manner cause Dan is not visible. He kept trying to get to the highest point on the bannister. As soon as he saw Dan, he came down and lowered his head in penitence. He knows that Dan is the the boss bird. A surveillance video without Dan around would be very interesting.
superhappylucky perhaps max gets out of sorts if dan mixes up the routine in, such as this when he leaves max alone in a non leave max alone spot. Does that make sense? Max is so smart and he probably relishes in the routine way of life that Dan has instilled with him.
I love how Max taps on things. Have you ever thought about giving him a bunch of closed Mason jars with different amounts of water in them (you know, to make different sounds) for him to tap? Might be interesting. Might drive you CRAZY, of course, but Max'd be entertained. :D
I'm literally laughing out loud at the thought of how traumatizing it would be to be lying in bed just about to drift off and suddenly... _EEEEEEEEH!! EEEEEEEHHHHHHH!!_ 😂
Good Morning Max and Dan! Max enters, his "swagger" obvious. His eyes are on something unknown to us. Slow stealth, head down: destination is revealed: SHOES!! Max looks behind the furniture, pretending he's not after the shoes... "What's back there?" "Ohhh...nothin'." "You're not allowed to have the shoes." "I know, I know." Max stands in front of the shoe-display, staring, in a trance. Dan: "I'm talkin' to you!" "Hmm? Yes? What did you say daddy?" "C'mere" "I want to 'touch' one of them." 2:03 nice eye-framing! ::tapping:: Gotta distract dad... "I'm being good...." switches to glass ::tapping:: (looking at shoes) 2:39 wanders toward the forbidden footwear... ::cut:: Maxwell: 'surfing' the bannister like a pro. (anyone else hear the guitar from "Wipeout"?) Max: I'll be a car alarm ::SCREECH!:: ::SCREECH!:: ::SCREECH!:: 3:49 "UH OH" ::looks seriously at Dan:: 4:09 "Yes?? Look at my 'innocent' face." "The guys at the garage heard you..." 4:47 "Really?" "There's the puppy again." "No good: I'm standing next to shoes! I won't be distracted!" "Keep your lips off of my shoes!" "Are you kidding me? My bird-lips are inches away from them!" Max tries a distraction: "I hear a cricket!"
I'd been creating stories. You're right: that's something I'd thought about, too. I'm a writer and had had fun writing things that way. Have a GREAT WEEKEND! end. ~.~
Dan you decorate your home so nice. I wish you gave lessons. The way you hang things on the walls and even the pumpkins on the floor. Outstanding!!!! Oh and I love the Little Boy and his Bird Lips also. XXXOOO
I suppose that if you gave Max his own shoe to destroy, (I mean to play with)...He would STILL want the shoes he can not have. Btw: love the flappy scream with the scream scream!!! Beautiful video. Your home is lovely! 💖❤💙💖❤💙💖❤💙
It is obvious that you love Max very much and that he loves you in return - longing to be near you and have your touch. I have watched a number of Max's videos and really enjoy seeing and hearing your interactions with him. I also appreciate the freedom that you give him. You have been willing to sacrifice having unscratched furniture and surfaces so that Max can roam freely. This is a wonderful thing. Very best to you and Max! I hope that you both have beautiful, long lives together and that we can continue to enjoy that time with you. :)
Dan your attempt to avoid Maxwell to mess with your shoes is adorable. I sense your undying love for him is stronger than your protection of your shoe collection. Max's tantrum is the cherry on top for this video.
I like that you include the random, ear-drum stimulating, exuberance of parrots and their kin. A lot of people might think caring for one is just fun and games. The sound alone requires a special kind of patience.
My fave moments are when you zoom in to his eyes and he's looking down and he's just whispering something quietly. That's when you can really tell how much he loves you. I heard him say "snuggle" when you were telling him about his sister Angel. He's a dear.
No bird lips bucko!! Dan your house is so cute. Wish I could still decorate. Really like the lights in the glass bowl. You guys have a nice 3 day weekend....:)
That got the attention of my cat Princess. She came over to investigate my smart phone. My birds just sort of looked up and remarked "oh its just Max" and went back to eating their breakfast. Love the decorations. I got mine out yesterday and will get around to putting them up sometime this weekend. It was actually chilly enough this morning to turn on my electric fireplace. Unfortunately its supposed to hit 80-85 this afternoon. At least the kids in the complex are able to stay out till the sun goes down playing.
I'd almost guess that Max's old owner maybe played wild bird recordings for him. To me, it sounds like he's mimicking other bird calls... and a squeaky door lol.
Do you ever do Halloween stuff with him? I can't picture you dressing him up but like every year I go as a pirate and have my grey on my shoulder. She's "Cap'n Greybird".
Max and Dan always complete my day. Theirs are the last videos I watch as I wind myself down after a long demanding day. Warms my heart so much and makes me so happy. Thank you for sharing.
Dan, thank you for sharing Max with us. Your relationship with him brings goodness, humor, and fun into our lives. Learning about Max's personality and feelings has helped me be more aware of the gift of all the wild birds in my life. All good wishes to you both.
I was watching a parrot named Eric. I think there's something wrong with that bird, and he gets away with biting and bullying the family's old dog. The family just laughs about itI had to get back to a normal Max! I'm feeling calmer now.
Yes. I agree with you. I watched him briefly. He is, I believe, from New South Wales. I spent a few times going Ouch! That bird was never taught any boundaries and he's a big bully to everyone. At least Dan is telling Max what is acceptable and what is not. Max may be a lippy bird but he is usually very good when Dan's family comes to sit for him. Just like we have to teach our children and our other pets what is good and what is bad. Not only to make them fun to live with but it may protect them from harm.
I do love Max, I watch him everyday because he just makes me smile and feel so much better after a hard day. Thank you, for sharing this really awesome guy, Max , he's one in a million. I also would like to say you have some unique decorations, which I like. The lamp on floor with little lights in it. What a great idea! Again, thanks and God bless you for taking care of one of Gods small creatures.
Screech should be your nickname, Max 🙉. What a loud little boy you are when Daddy had to go out of sight for a minute. That's one sentence you never expect to hear, "Keep your lips off my shoes".
I have had my parrots for over 20 years....I love Max and his owner.....It is rare to find such commitment to an animal, esp a bird....Thank you mr max's daddy. Love the videos.
Max thinks if I can cover my feet with daddies shoes it will stop daddy from chasing me around trying to get coconut oil on my feet.xPersonal comment I know, apologise in advance Dan but you have a really welcoming home.
He makes me laugh endlessly. He's looks over & notices all the shoes with such awe. He then checks them out several times knowing he's not supposed to, slidding up & down the banister, & squawking so loud. He's the best medicine.
I love the way he marches up to the shoes and boxes. It's as if he's saying,"But I'm just looking." I get such enjoyment from these videos. I noticed when he was in tantrum mode that he slid...and then kept repeating the behavior. My neighbor's Goffins make the same noises for attention.
