These are things I hate the most about Jack Russell Terrier. However, don't be fooled. I own and raise a Jack Russell Terrier and can tell you firsthand they make excellent dogs.
These are just the things that despite loving the personality of the Jack Russell, these things can be slightly annoying at times. And I believe, every Jack Russell Terrier should understand these personality traits before ultimately deciding to adopt.
Luna and I (my Jack Russell Terrier) wish you the best of luck and hope you enjoy this video.

The most annoying things about my Jack, Willie, is when he's wanting to go outside numerous times in an hour. He really needs a revolving door lol. It does get annoying when he starts barking for no apparent reason and won't stop. But I love him more than any thing. There's never a dull moment 🤣

I never had a problem either potty training. Our little Jack was taught by her mum. One thing I do hate is when it’s cold she will decide that her little paws are too cold and make a beeline for the car. A friend who’s over six foot and a body builder said he’d take her and she nearly pulled him over. 🤣🤣Now my Jack Russell is barely 10 inches but her muscles are incredibly strong. She doesn’t want to do something then she won’t do it.

My Jack Charlie is a so spoiled due to covid, there is always someone home so he is so clingy. Like you said, I love it and hate it. He also does this weird thing at night where he won't allow anyone but my wife and I near each other. If my youngest walks into the room at night he gets all puffy and defensive, but only at bed time.

I agree with most of these! My JRT has to be all over me too. The climbing on my chest and clinging gets worse if other ppl are around or if we are at someone else’s house. My JRT is also a slow picky eater. It annoys me but now I’m just like if he doesn’t want to eat then I’m not going to force him. I thought he would grow out of some of the traits but I’ve realized after 1.5 yrs that this is just how JRT are!

My jrt wants to say hi to everyone! It doubles the walking time, lol! I can’t move without her being under my feet, if I go to the kitchen she comes too, if I go upstairs, she comes too and if I lock the door behind me, she barks and howls the house down. She was also born deaf so doesn’t realise how loud she is. Constantly wants to play ball. Picks things up and eats them on walks. Fussy eater too. Won’t go to loo/no.2’s in our yard, has to be at least half a mile from the house. Still love her to bits though.

Got to mostly agree with your list. I've had several JRT's in my life time, I love them. Got a new one early last year, after loosing our 16y dog. This one is the first one that dosn't really bark (good thing) the first time I heard her bark propper was only about a month ago. She frightened the life out of me, I thought another dog had gotten in the garden. Turned out she was barking at a balloon that had drifted into the garden. 😂

Ok, here goes. My female JRT, Zee, is always next to me. But when I try to get her to look at me, she can't hold her gaze more than ten seconds or so before she looks past me in a million directions. But... She still is stuck like glue. I purchased her from a nationally respected breeder when she was five years old. She was part of a pack and was free range with them in a fifty yard run. She was never house broken and I have not been able to do more than train her to use pee pads indoors. Another downside is because she can outrun most all dogs, she drags me on her leash no matter what I've tried to rein her in. But like you, I wouldn't trade her for anything. She is ten now and as lively and alert as ever. I do love your videos. I've learned quite a bit. Thanks!

The following around issue was crazy at first. Taught her place and she just lays there until I release her. Door manners helped with my jack for squirrels and boundaries. Hill going down to the stream with a lot of squirrels. Showed her where the boundary was and gave her the okay command to cross over and called her name again to have her look at me and gave her a command to cross back over. Had to do that for about 40 yards of the hillside and the open gate to road going 55+ mph road. Digging, fill in the dirt and put some of their poop at the top part of the hole and then cover the rest. The last thing I just fixed on her was leash reactive to other dogs.

You have to think for jacks..cos they have a brain but a tendency not to use it when getting into scraps and arguments. I think they are super intelligent, loving little dogs if you train them right, and protective.I’ve kept this breed for over 19 years. I lost my boy he reached 18 yrs of age last summer..god I miss him,but still have his female counterpart... I guess the annoying thing..is the molting ,the little hairs like needles stick in everywhere lol. When she goes shes 15...I will get more of this breed..I love them..🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

OMG 😱! There are many of those traits that my Jackhuahua has. He’s a little 6 lb guy who sometimes embarrasses me with the things and people he’ll bark at in the street during our walks. He only use to whine and cry with everybody we’d encounter when I adopted in April 2021. He does on many occasions, eat really slow and do a weird dance around his dish as if deciding what part of the meal he should and shouldn’t eat. He usually only does poop when I walk him in our yard or the street. He loves to lay between my husband’s legs when we are in bed which annoys my husband as it limits his mobility. He loves to snuggle under his arm when we sit down on our recliners in the evening to read or watch television. Linus though tiny, acts like a lion whenever something or someone gets his attention. He won’t stop until he catches it or it goes away. He “talks” to you to get your attention or makes a weird sound like “Whoop!” Like all dogs at times, he gets a case of the zoomies a/k/a “the crazy hour” as it usually happens at the same time in the evening. My three Boston Terriers and my two Boxers did the same thing. It’s hilarious 🤣!

My JRT does the same thing with his food lol My biggest gripe is that when he's hunting in the back yard he stops listening to me. And if he's digging it hunting and you come near him he will growl at you and if I touched him he would bite me. But that's the ONLY time he acts like that towards his people.

13yrs ago, a friend asked me if I knew anyone who wanted his JR. He worked and the JR, Toddy, had destroyed his sofa, piano and always pooed and wee'd by the time he got home. Also dug a ton of holes in his garden. I worked from home and liked the little man so I had him that day. He'd never been let off the lead due to fear of him running off, so at 1yrs old he was a live wire. On my second walk with him I met a lady with 3 JR who said he'd be fine as he'd stay in the pack. In 13yrs, he's never run off. He sleeps under the duvet, curled up by my side and over the years has slowed down but still has mad 5 minutes of running the length of the house, out the back door, round the yard and back again. Falls over due to a spinal stroke, but that doesn't phase him. Only dog he didn't like was the Labrador that lived opposite us that he would bark like mad at. Now nearly 15, he sleeps lots, but still loves his walks and sunbathing in the window. Would never have thought of getting a JR, but the best thing that could have happened. Love him to bits.

Love my little sausage to bits, but she likes to watch tv, and goes completely nuts when any kind of animal appears on there. Cats and dogs especially, the thing is though she is one of the friendliest JRT’s I’ve known as she just wants to play with any cat or dog she meets. I can’t say the same about pheasants and squirrels, 100% prey driven when it comes to them

1. My female JRT constantly wants to be with someone & both my JRT’s my mum often calls little lost sheep as they follow her around. 2. Surprisingly both my JR’s you’d think they were never fed. They eat their food so fast ESPECIALLY my male JRT where it’s nom nom gone. We have to use a puzzle feeder bowl for out make JRT’s kibble otherwise he would inhale it. 3. My female JRT doesn’t drink a lot but boy does she need the loo a lot where as my male JRT drinks a bit more but can hold it longer. We have a pet flap for them to go outside so it’s not too much of a problem unless it’s raining then they sometimes decide to have accidents inside. 4. My female JRT is pretty earless other than around big black dogs as she was attached by one as a puppy. She will even run onto the road if she were to escape. However my male JRT is a coward. He is constantly barking & is so scared of cars he will not even walk on the sidewalk you have to carry him if you are anywhere near the road. 5. My JRT’s don’t ask for permission for anything. 6. Yep my JRT’s are definitely guard dogs and bark or growl and anything & everything. Even things that aren’t there. From the postman or someone coming into the drive to fireworks, to a door slamming to something falling, to animals outside on the lawn or whatever’s else. It drives my mum nuts. Especially out male JRT. He barks at a pitch that makes the door bell ring. 7. My female JRT constantly wants cuddles. She even sleeps with my dad at night. She also always want to give kisses. 8. My female JRT is an escape artist and we always have to secure the yard when we move house. 9. Yep both my JRT’s chase EVERYTHING. 10. My JRT’s don’t always listen. They listen to me the most but they don’t always listen to me. ESPECIALLY my female JRT or when we are on a walk & we want to go back to the car.

I had this problem too with a Jack Russell I had when a bit younger, he was the fittest most muscular little jack Russell ever and a fitness fanatic. He never liked any of the prepackaged stuff and even when I found what he liked he would only eat so much and never for sake of it. Anyways the stuff he liked was cooked chicken and rice or lamb hearts now and then. It actually can be cheaper than dog food but it takes effort cutting and cooking.

I resonate with all that you say but in my jack russell/ wire haired terrier cross us her Enourmous prey drive! . She us nearly 2 and has even driven our old cat to live next door( the cat was the boss of 2 off our previous dogs, one being another jack Russell) She is completely cat obsessed and will stare out the window at neighbour's cats. I have to lock her up when I call the cat over for food and I have to fed cat on the other side of the fence. Honestly I think she would kill him. They where good when she was a puppy for the first 4 months but then it went sour. He started to run Instead of standing his ground and the rest is history. The other jack Russell never chased him and mollie died at 5 too early riddled with cancer. Mollie had strong prey drive too but never against cats.

When Augie can see someone or something in the yard or on the street he will bark his head off But...as he gets more and more excited his bark turns into some kind of sound thats like someone beating a Baby. I think you're talking more about yr own intolerance. Train her not to do what bugs you - they only want to please you ALL THE TIME. Thankfully I have kind & tolerant neighbours. I've fixed the gate so Fergus can not escape. If they do something which bugs you train her not to ... If he has the wriggle when I'm trying to sleep he's sent to his own bed. Then when I fall asleep he'll sneak back so when I wake up there he is asleep behind my knees. They are slow eaters but they know how to look after there own meal. It's a no go zone.

Jack Russells are working dogs, not lap dogs. They have high energy levels and cannot sit still. They need high dose of exercise so they have settle down to rest. Some owners just leave them in the backyard which makes their behaviour even worse. They bark at every little sound, even a bird in the tree or neighbour coughing. I feel really sad when I see neighbours who own dogs but never seem to engage with them at all except to feed them or chastise them for being destructive.

My JR wants to be with me all the time, which I like, but she also wants to play, and if I don't she gets bored so it's difficult to get anything done. Hmmm She is a fast eater, loving everything I make for her. I need to take her out for a pee every 2.5 to 3 hours. At 8 months, I think she is finally trained. She stares at me when she wants to go out, no sound. She is scared of the dark, and scared of my van's diesel engine, shakes the whole time we are driving in the van. She does not ask me for permission to do anything, she is pretty outgoing that way. Yup, barking is annoying me, and she does not stop when I tell her to stop. No way. I'm alone so I like that she wants to sit with me. She has escaped 2 harnesses, including a no-escape harness. This worries me a lot. I don't have a fence because I rent. She chases the birds in the sky... ok then. You have sometimes asked us to respond to you with out dog's traits, but it's a bit disappointing that you don't leave any comments back to us. It would be nice to have that personal communication. 🙂

Enjoy your videos 👍. I have an 8 month old Jack Russell and I adore all the things that you mentioned. The only thing that terrifies me is they are "escape artists." I'm afraid he'll get out of the yard and I'll never see him again. I got Georgie from the shelter as a puppy, so they weren't sure what kind of mix he was. I don't think I would have gotten a Jack Russell because of all the things I've heard about them. But I'm having so much fun with him! Their energy and personality is really great 😃.

The barking at stranger's i dont really mind because there are a lot of people that are up to no good in niagara falls so if my half jack prince barks at someone i take that as keep an eye on that person or talk to them but dont trust them. I understand that jack russles were bread for hunting but when prince has to sniff Everything for a while it kinda eats up at the amount of sun left in the day.

I have a Jackchi. She has a lot jack in her personality. The trick to a quick pee for her is, I tell her it's time to pee take her out side and tell her to pee. And for now she does. 9 times out of 10. I also taught her to bark softly to get a treat. It's real hard for her but she does it most of the time.

Why or why can't Coco let things go. She sees a big dog and she attempts to attack and pulls at her lead. Long after the dog has long gone, she srill grumping up to 20 minutes later. When it comes to smaller dogs I have seen her stalking them, actually like a cat stalking a mouse. Maybe because she has been around cats, regardless, it's embarrassing 😳. Other owners have pointed it out that her stalking behavior is quite scary. However, she has learned to ride on the bottom of the electic cart when we go shopping. She's usually in the cart before I can get inside.

My JRT literally chews on all of his toys. Everytime I buy him a squeaky toy, 5 minutes later, he will have chewed on the squeaky part leaving it silent.

I am babysitting a Parson Russell Terrier puppy atm. Thankfully it's just for a week... it's already driving me insane.. seriously. Most hyper, annoying and disconnected dog ever. So stressful at like 97% of the time.. and I sometimes.. it just WON'T poop. And it does 1000 things to distract from doing her business. It's almost like it's too selfcentered/disconnected. Tbh, I've had lots of diff breeds - I'm never getting a Russell ever lol..

We have two - (double trouble) they have different traits, One likes his own space and is happy sleeping on a separate chair and in his own bed at night, but boy the barking!!! birds, neighbours dogs streets away, the postman, kids on the way to school if he's at home and can see it or hear it it's going to be barked at. Bolts his food down like he had never been fed. Our other is quiet, but so clingy. needs to be touching you all the time and follows you from room to room, will go to her bed at night but creeps up early morning and wants to sleep on the pillows. Eats slowly and is so messy spiting out kibble all around her bowl.

When I saw my JR again after a year of absence she ran around me in circles then she did it on her tummy. When we got home she wouldn't look at me, even after a month. She was definitely not going to forgive me for going away when once we had been inseparable.

2 things that annoy me about my Jack, Doug: OMFG the barking. Drives me totally insane. Easily my #1 issue with him. He's pretty good at stopping when I tell him, but he won't stop for anyone else. 2: Destruction of property if we go out. Yes, sometimes he has to be left at home with the other dogs, BUT he is the only dog that takes this opportunity to get into things and destroy them. Zippers, buttons, velcro, plastic lids.. nothing stops him. Of course when you get home he's hiding because he knows he's done something naughty, he absolutely knows. He will then go and sulk. Unfortunately if something takes his interest, he cannot be stopped. He's lucky he's a cutie.

LOL. The slow eating. You nailed that one.. My beagle/jack mix or jacobee is exactly like that..I take him to work with me cuz can't leave him home do to constant barking. So I have to pack his breakfast and give it to him when he is ready. I am so blessed my boss allows me to bring him to my job sites and office. By the way, how can you wear black? Myself, my truck and my office chair are covered in fur. All in all sweet, lovable, cuddly, friendly dog.

Hey from New Zealand! We have adopted a beautiful little Russell Puppy with little short legs as a result my hubby is building a little deck so he can reach the microchipped dog door. Sonic is true to his name & is very lively at 5 months old. My problem is he thinks it's OK to walk on my chest & shoulders & practically devour my face with kisses and eat my hair ! It's totally over the top & hurts. I don't want to put him off as I love an affectionate pup bit how can I encourage him to tone down the passion??

I hate to say but I do not like my JRT sometimes. She is so hyper, pees and poops inside right after I’ve taken her outside. She barks all day long, chases everything and everyone, has to be leashes at all times when we’re outside otherwise she’d take off, bites kids (not hard but it scares them), ankle biter, etc. it’s terrible to be honest. I’ve tried the click collar but she bites it off, i have a regular schedule she goes out early in the morning, eats breakfast and goes out again. When i get home from work i take her out, feed her then goes out again. I e adjusted my schedule to only work 4-6 hrs a day which is financially taking a toll. I think I need to find someone else for her. My daughter will be sad but there’s not much I can do at this point.

My JRT never lets me watch TV in peace. He will sit and beg under it staring at me until I give him my attention. I love him so much. I know he loves me too. I spend all day with him playing, running, walking, tug o' wars. I even tell him stories when he is facing me on my knees. When I begin with "once upon a time" I get his attention. Then at night when I put the TV on, I get no peace!🤨😄😄
