I love FMAB, but the fact that the fans go out of their way to give series like Gintama, Fruits Basket and AoT a 1 rating just to keep their favorite anime at the #1 spot is just pathetic. Who fucking cares what's at the top of the list. What matters is what YOU rate the show.

I was just talking about this with a friend earlier today, but it really annoys me how people treat the MAL rankings. They act as if it's a joke, but then their favourite series gets into the Top 3 and they become toxic elitists who belittle everyone "below" them. Same goes for the ones already in the top spots, calling it "defending their throne." Like, guys, it's a ranking website, and an anime one no less. Don't get so worked up, you feel me?

FMAB (the English Dub) is amazing, but I agree that people on MAL shouldn't be review bombing other series just because it may surpass it 💯.

A good story is satisfying to read because of the plethora of interesting and well written characters. Saying that only one character or a specific team of characters carry the show is a little bit of an exaggeration .. While the truth is every character has an important role in a story. Even characters that were present for 10 chapters or so but their small time spend with the protagonist Helped to further develop the protagonist as a character meaning that their presence were important.. To sum it up i just wanna say that removing a single character or arc from a story will definitely make the story completely different and it will most likely lose its balance

You can’t take away Gaston from Berserk, because he is a good boy who wanted to open a clothing shop and live a simple life and who was a Chad like the rest of the Hawks.

That's why I never felt part of the anime community,they take everything as a personal attack when you criticize their favorite or tell it's not your thing.Guys,chill out,just because I don't like something you love doesn't mean I consider it trash that offers nothing good on the medium it represents.Also,the majority loves the things I don't enjoy or love so congratulations,you win and I lose.At the end of the day,it all comes down to personal preference.After all,art is subjective. Note:By no means I mean every anime fan is toxic.I have seen many comment threads that had a very calm and mature discussion when criticizing or disagreeing with something without resorting to insults or threats.

FMAB is for sure one of my favorites but I completely disagree with what the fandom does to keep it number 1 the only placement that should matter to you is yours… I also really don’t like the word mid and overrated

I really respect the fact that you said that there are similar people on berserk as there is to fmab, that they can't accept that people have different taste, it is something i have seen lately "oh whatever you are reading now, berserk is better on 5 different levels" for example Not many people today would say that about the fandom of their favorite medium when talking about others mediums faults!

I am a MASSIVE FMA fan, I first watched FMAB when I was 12/13 years old, and it was honestly the first anime that really had an emotional impact on me and stuck with me till this day, part of the reason I think it had such a big impact on me is because during this weird and transitional period of my life, it was one of the very few pieces of media that treated me like an adult. It is easily my favourite anime of all time, and it disappoints me to no end to see people who seemingly love this show as much as I do, and are as passionate about it as I am, act so childishly towards others who don’t share the same opinion about it. It almost makes me ashamed to be a fan of the series when I see how these “real fans” treat other anime’s and their communities.

Somebody in the anime community pointing out the sexualizing of minors in fandom art. Dear gawd, there is hope yet. Completely agree with your main point too. I think it stems from people putting their whole identity into certain shows, and feel personally attacked when people point out the problems in that assumed identity.

Im a die hard one piece fan, and I'm fine with people saying it's boring. The same thing with any anime I like, AoT, FMAB, etc. I don't enjoy AoT anymore, BUT i can admit it was well written for 90% of it. I liked the ending, but I didn't really enjoy the anime past season 3. Im good with that, most people should be, the issue is when people consider something bad for superficial reasons and think they're objective. You can be bored by Code Geass, One Piece, Fmab, AoT, MHA, idc; but as soon as you start hating on the writing without any genuine reasoning then you should keep your mouth shut. If you can create genuine criticisms, though, for example: One Piece's lack of death, I'm happy to accept that. I can admit every story has it's flaws, and I think that's a good thing to point out, but that doesn't mean that One Piece is "mid." writing wise, one piece is nearly perfect, in my opinion, but if people can point out flaws I am one hundred percent down to accept that. Just stop acting like how much you enjoy an anime means that its bad or good. You need substance

FMA:B still top tier to me after all these years. Tried to show it to my friend and it didn’t grip her; showed her Beastars and she loved it. It is what it is. As a side note trash talking a series is only fun when you do it with your mates as friendly banter. Taking it so seriously just means you need you probably need to work on social and communication skills

A small part of MAL community is just like that. I know you said you knew that "every fandom does that", but I am still going to talk about this point. The fandom is pretty inactive since well it aired 12 years ago and hasn't had anything new (probably won't). It's true that many anime get review bombed when they get into the top, we have seen this recently. Yet everyone blames only and mainly FMAB fandom, they mostly don't even mention other anime fandom (maybe AoT but that's it). I have seen how toxic the other fandom are maybe even more than FMAB fandom itself, many insults to FMA and people saying overrated (we can see many examples in this comments section), memes and useless posts raging, encouraging others to review bomb FMAB as payback. Last time I checked the stats of FMAB (about july) it had 19k 1s, and now it has 22k. That's a 3k growth in a few months of a somewhat old anime. Yeah, when checking the stats of other anime we have seen FMAB fans and other anime fans. But we cannot really blame the fandom, it's really vague, one could be using bots, and people would think that it's the whole fandom doing this. I would even say FMAB is mostly a chill fandom, they receive criticism well, they know that people can like other things more. Why do I say this? Well, I've checked forums in MAL, the subreddit r/fullmetalalchemist (the latter is really great). I don't like to compare it with other anime, but I've seen other fandoms many times more obsessed with scores and they collectively trash on other anime and its fandom. My advice would be just to not care too much about stats, ignore the fandom when watching something.

If I, as a fan of the Boruto, were to get tilted at every person who says it's bad, I would legitimately have a stroke. Not that it doesn't bother me, because I see it, and us Boruto fans get a whole lot more hate than deserved, but Jesus. Sometimes you just gotta let shit go.

Look I finished FMAB 2 years ago and I almost Loved everything about it. But people who are a fan of these types of series (Especially this popular) need to realize not everything stays #1 forever theirs gonna be one series that overtops it and that's ok, also I would love to see you talk about Denzel he's one of my favorite rappers too.

When someone hates on a series they havent even seen or read, just because its popular or is talked a lot is just dumb and their arguments and points hold little to no value, since they cant even form any proper arguments because they havent even seen or read the series. This is my personal experience with my cousin for example, she has like 5 or 6 animes on her list that she considers "the only good ones" and every single other anime that there is on this planet is trash, because she either doesn't know it exists, or she hasnt seen it and is hating because its popular, and it honestly ticks me off

That part about people removing parts from stories to say it's bad is so true. Like imagine telling a chef "this burger is terrible because it wouldn't even be a burger without the buns!" Like no shit, if you remove something good from a good story, it's not going to be as good anymore

These communities are why I try to hide the fact I'm a fan of anime and manga as much as humanly possible Now I know its a vocal minority but they are definitely the most vocal part a lot of the times I find so the people outside see more of them and not the good

I have witnessed multiple times how a show managed to get past FMAB in fruits baskets, Gintama 2015, steins gate, and AoT and immediately went a few places down after less than one day. Granted in AoT‘s case for its final season people were spam voting 10s after just the first episode aired so I get that but for the others, just …. Why. I mean I personally don’t very much care for MALs tops anyway because a lot of my favorites rank nowhere near it and stand at some ratings between 7.4 - 7.9 (seriously try watching some in that span, you’ll find TONS of hidden gems) j but every time I see stuff like that I just have to facepalm, like just stop.

FMAB* fandom always getting trolled by the Gintama fans, as Gintama has like 10 different series because of the name. LOL

I recommend Masked Man, to see FullMetal Alchemist (2003) first, then watch Brotherhood. Trust me, you will appreciate it, man. I have found issues on both stories, but both shows express the same themes and ideas of the manga. I am not a huge of FullMetal Alchemist; I think it is a 7/10, in my opinion. In my outlook, the 3 best stories ever to exist is Berserk, Vinland Saga, and Vagabond. Also, I forgot the honorable mentions of Monster, and Urusawa's work. My favorite anime and manga of all time is One piece, and i have been in MANY debates about the quality of many different anime and manga series. I have seen sooooo many toxic, close minded, childish and annoying people and fans of all sorts of series, INCLUDING One piece, that i stoped care about it. All i want is enjoy thees series the way they are without being constantly told that: an anime is trash, or has bad animation, or has an unfitting ending and bla bla bla.

This video definitely hit the nail on the head in regards to the current discourse in the anime/manga community. Most conclusions I see now about an anime or manga are either “this series is trash” (or “this series is mid” to get the same sentiments across while sounding less aggressive) or “this series is the GOAT” and they almost seem reactionary towards each other. It’s honestly gotten annoying and I think it’s a product of the hype culture that we’ve built up over the years. But like, I just want to read my fourth wall breaking comedy manga about a guy in happy relationship with 100 girlfriends who are all cool with the harem in peace. I don’t need someone coming in and telling me why Attack on Titan is a far superior manga because of how it has deeper themes, or that Fate is a better series because it has individual variations for all the girls from 18 new universes added in the exclusive Samsung smart fridge gacha game which is now canon. I don’t care.

It's very ironic the fact that the mal community can't understand the personal preferences of a "MY anime list" (expecially the Jojo community), I loved the manga of fma and I think that the series is a good adaptation but I Always roll my eyes every time I hear "it's impossible to not like it"
