Trigger warnings are annoying to me. It's like someone babysitting you while you pick a book like you are ten years old. If you are concerned with content, do your research beforehand. Not the job of the Booktuber. We're adults here.
Something that rly helped me find extreme horror books I like is this RU-vid video called something like “Disturbing books iceberg (300+)” and it goes thru this giant iceberg which I’ve personally been using for over a year to vicariously shop through. Highly recommend 😊
Please don’t leave us!! I love your content, you’re my Pete Davidson for extreme horror 😂. I hope your health turns around soon, sending positive energy your way!! ❤
The Resurrectionist was made into a movie called Come Back To Me. It was either 2014 or 2016 and the actress that plays Sarah is the same one that played Rita, Dexter's girlfriend in the first 4 seasons of Dexter. The movie is just okay but it does have a great twist at the end that impressed me quite a bit! 😊
Don't bother with all the trigger warnings - as someone who's really sensitive I know that the minute you say a book is extreme horror that it's not for me. Also as a sensitive person I have found myself, that people just don't mention certain things that bother me (example - animal death) and I just shouldn't expect them to. I just have to try to find out myself before reading if it matters that much. I don't read extreme horror but I watch your channel because I like YOU. I enjoy your videos and your sense of humor. I'm glad you're here ^^
Yeah I think everyone should look into what they’re reading if they know they might have an issue with it. It’s not a random booktubers responsibility. Thank you very much ❤️
Ive found the extreme horror Reddit is the place to go for trigger warnings. I can read a lot of messed up things, but there is one thing i dont want to read, and even if there is a trigger list, its never specific enough to list the one thing I don't like. The Reddit folks will help find books that dont do certain triggers though.
Oh that’s awesome I didn’t even realize that was a thing! And exactly even if I were to sit here and mention triggers there’s always going to be someone who says “oh that doesn’t sound bad” and then reads it and gets traumatized. They’re never specific enough and I don’t ever want to spoil things for people so that’s great there’s a Reddit for that
I’d recommend Prodigal Blues by Gary Braunbeck. It’s very character-driven, so the extreme horror bits have a harder impact. Not flawless, but it’s got more substance than most extreme horror & sidesteps a lot of gratuitousness the genre is known for while still packing a big punch. Love your channel! Helps me find a lot of new stuff. You mentioned trying to get into fantasy in one of your recent vids and my best advice is Clive Barker. Incredible fantasy work mixed with the horror that you love. The Great and Secret Show is a great starter & Imajica is a stunning work of art.
Um im offended that u DIDNT have ur vacuum in the background at the end of ur vlog!!!!! 😂 People can be so freaking petty and quite ignorant. I dont understand why they have to be such assholes to u when ur helping us!!! Taking time out of UR schedule, when ur not feeling well - to help us! I am grateful to u and would be lost without ur vlogs!! Please don't leave us! U make me laugh and feel happy! I really really hope u feel better! ❤
Thank you so much! ❤️ Im sticking around just very irritated and hate everyone lately 😂 and what kills me is that I NEVER feel well and the last thing I want to deal with are terrible people online. I just want to talk to people who are nice and be left alone lol
@@ReadingWithMeg I hear ya. I always feel like crap, difft crap than urs but still crap! I know it's tough but try not to pay attention to them. People like to try to irritate and knit pick others to make them feel better about themselves. Another word for it is envy, jealousy. O hey that's 2 words!!! Lolol. ❤️🤣❤️🤣
Yay I’m glad you got Torment! I sent it to you cause I just loved it and funny enough I think it has the things in it you are looking for to reignite your love for extreme. Cheers always! You echoed a lot of my thoughts on this book, loved the underbelly of Hollywood theme.
People are too fucken sensitive. I still can't believe books need trigger warnings. Don't worry about making people happy. Just keep making great videos.
AHHHHHHH!!!!! So jealous I want to go again lol it should be different material since his last tour was what’s on Netflix now. He did a lot of improv at our show since it was the day before his special. Enjoy!! ☺️
have you read borrasca?? not an extreme horror, but its definitely stuck with me as one of the most disturbing things ive ever read and its a short story
@@ReadingWithMeg creepy start. atmospheric. got me hooked 100%. but the interesting and bone chilling reveal at the end was missing. i would have taken the basic idea a lot farther than that. for example, i kind of hoped that the main character will discover her own dead body.... and realize, that she was always one of "them"
I do understand what you are saying. You are looking for books with plots with substance. With that in mind, extreme horror with plots like these are few and far between it's mostly like you said for shock value and that simply is not sustainable. I would suggest taking a break to read some other genres. Then coming back to it.
The way anti-trigger warning ppl think is amusing to me, they don't see the irony in getting triggered by trigger warnings, and being strong is a huge part of thier identity but are far too fragile to ever pick up something like a cute romance.
I am not sure why but 11 mins in to watching and my anxiety is through the roof i will return to watch when feeling a bit better thank you for the video and the work you put in for all of us and i hope you feel less stressed soon🙏
@@ReadingWithMeg Thank you🙏 its my mums anniversary of passing, so thought i could take my mind of it by watching your video, i have saved it for another day though 🙏
I’m personally offended by the device used to pick up dog hair was filled halfway with dog hair but other than that Chandler Morrisons stuff sounds like a tough but worthy read
I read this as “I’m offended it was filled halfway with dog hair and not Chandler Morrison’s stuff” lollllllll Yeah that book is messed up but a great book
I tried posting a different comment with another book recommendation, but I kept getting an error on my end. Sorry if my original comment is listed several times and I can’t see it. Just trying to figure out what the heck happened…
@@ReadingWithMeg I was just recommending a short story called Coming Down by Chandler Morrison. It’s in a collection called Just to See H*ll (maybe that H word did it?) I found it on KU. It’s been my favorite story that I’ve read by him. And I totally agree with you about his writing style. Even when it’s sometimes difficult to stomach, it’s still so beautifully written. Almost charismatic, if that makes any sense?! I don’t know how to explain it haha. He has such a way with making you question your morals and having empathy for the bad guy.
@@toshp9362 definitely will look that up! I want to read more from him now. You’re right it was probably the H word 😂 idk sometimes it flags such random comments but yet the people who attack and bully me those are fine hahah but yeah completely agree his writing style was just so great
I have a extreme horror story for you and it happened in my town on Monday the police were called to a house for a welfare check for a brother and sister who are in their 70s when they got to the house the police found the front hard covered in rubbish and dead rats 🐀 and possums and the neighbours called the police because of the smell little did they know that when they got in side the house they found the house was full of rats and dead possums and more rubbish then they came across the brother and sister sleeping in the same bed and she was in her mid seventies and awake but her brother had been dead for at least a maximum of 5 years and a minimum of two years the neighbours were dumb founded and so was the local council who had supposed to be have been looking after them both 🖤🖤🖤
I feel like you tube is for you to share your opinions its ok to not agree but to talk nasty about someone for sharing opinions is so petty and such bullshit people need to lighten up in this world i mean its like we arent allowed to speak our peace or share how we feel anymore because we get so much hate. I love your channel and your commentary on books and i love seeing you here on you tube i hope you stay ❤❤
I agree. If I don’t like someone or their video I just don’t watch. I certainly don’t comment on it. And those are the people that make you feel like you need to walk on eggshells to express your opinions. I’ve gotten better about not caring though but some days I want to just read in peace 😂 thank you ❤️❤️❤️
Agree. And the amount of people who say “I want to read extreme horror but can’t tolerate (list of 50 things)” then why do you WANT to read the genre? Lol
