oh dude. DUDE. as a fellow canadian rally fan and casual sim racer, i am absolutely 100% following this and wishing you the best i possibly can. rest assured if you head to Rocky next year, i'll be there to cheer for you! _GOOD LUCK!!!_
I understand that you planning to go the sim way into this. But one most simple and easiest way how to get into rally is rally cross. There is series going in Calgary, Edmonton and here in BC we have combined championship of 12 races held in Pemberton and Kelowna respectively. ANY safe car will do, entry fees are low, and you will learn A LOT! And meet ppl who do stage rally. In past three years, we have some 8-10 ppl moving to stage rally after doing few RallyCross races with us.
100% a great suggestion. I want to get into RallyX as soon as possible. At the moment, I just have a lumbering SUV in the driveway, so I've gotta figure out what I want to do for a 'for now' car that I feel okay making a lot of mistakes in haha.
Another lifelong MTB/Rallying fan here. I didn't even know rallying was a thing in Canada. Coming from the UK (and the rural North of England), rallying was pretty big when I was growing up, with plenty of local amateur events; many of us had Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts with roll cages and the like in (pretending to be rally drivers) and a few of my mates went the extra step and competed, a ragtag collection of battered old RWD cars. I don't get out to spectate any more, despite living on the border with Wales, which one could argue is the spiritual home of the sport, but still love the sport so much, so will be following along with your journey with interest.
And now all those old Escorts are worth their weight in gold haha. I would love to get out there to spectate some classic rallies one day! Thanks for following along.
Same boat of love for wrc! This year i built a sim rig, ive spent all my free time reading, watching training and explanation videos, and im now in top 7-10% of times on all the Dirt Rally 2.0 and wrc stages i've attempted and practiced and reviewed where im going wrong. Long way to go, but im only 6 months in! My gf bought me a rally experience (similar to dirtfish but in australia) so i get a half day of driving a few rally cars soon!! Cannot wait!
You are right, there's a whole bunch thinking the same as you. When the full sim racing setup is ready, take a look into Richard Burns Rally over Rallysimfans. As someone who played DR2 and EA WRC, RBR is the most simulator to date. Maybe add VR for depth perception and it might serve well as a training tool.
@@RyansRoadToRally According to the sim community, compared to the rest of the sims, RBR in VR is the one that runs better, looks and feels better. I'm doing it with a dated quest 2, but a quest 3 nowadays should be a good option. Relatevily cheap and good performance with the pancake lenses. It uses OpenXR runtime and the performance is very good.
@@RyansRoadToRally BeamNG is such a good rally sim too in my opinion better even than rbr because it feels and looks more natural how the car behaves 👍
Bro, this content got me into rental karting. My plan is to go from one of the better “arrive and drive” drivers and worst competitors to coming top 3 in a race and holding consistent. Best of luck!!!!
That's amazing and inspiring. I really want to become a rally driver, but it feels like a distant dream. Seeing you trying to pull this off in ONE YEAR has given me some hope. Thank you.
Feel like I’m in a similar situation. I’m 26 and loved rally all my life, my brother got me into it, and he competes in rallies himself in Ireland. Rallying is huge over here. I now have the opportunity to begin rallying next year myself on a very low budget. Nervous but excited to fulfil a lifelong dream
Scary that all I do at work is watch rally stuff, signed up for winter rally course in Quebec and then on my new device, I get this banger of à video series.. for once, thanks algorithmes, I can't wait to see this channel grow
My maaan, so happy to see you try some sport on four wheels. Been watching your mtb videos for years and it is awesome to see a fellow MTB enthusiast expand their interests and venture into the realm of motorsports. I've got a bit of tarmac racing background (time attack to be specific) and I can totally confirm that simulators are good for developing proper technique with a deeper understanding of aspects like chassis behavior etc. Dirt Rally 2.0 may have some weaknesses when it comes to warm and dry paved roads, yet the feel is spot on in terms of any loose surface there. Good luck and thumbs up for picking that Subie! Boxer for the win!
Best of luck. 1 year is AWFULLY ambitious. Since I see you've volunteered, I suspect you know more than you're letting on. I get it though. I do rally stuff. My brain is available for picking if you'd like.
It definitely is a lofty goal! Learning as much as I can, as quickly as possible. Volunteering was a huge step in the right direction, that's for sure. Cheers!
Hey - here to follow and wish good luck. You’ll find many many people will help you along the way. Including me if you like. I started ripping around the backroads of Alberta in a quattro, and ended up with a paid rally career. So it’s possible. Looks like you can do a good job of explaining it as you go, and that can certainly be helpful to others. As Churchill said: never, never, never quit.
I just spectated my first rally like a week ago because for once it was like 10 minutes away and not 10 hours and man has that made me all the more sure I definitely want to be rally driver! Honestly when you spend your whole life seeing rally through a tv screen it feels so surreal to actually be there in person!
@@RyansRoadToRally tbh what you are doing right now on this channel is effectively what I am only able to think about for now definitely want to be a rally driver one day but for the time being I’m learning to become a mechanic as that gives you loads of skills, knowledge and especially connections which would prove useful for anyone seriously considering a racing career of some descriptions or another.
Get started in RallyCross if Canada has any. In the US we have SCCA rallycross which is just small cone courses. You get enough speed and seat time to at least practice in a real car.
🤟🤟hell yeah!! Good luck brother! Shore you're doing great! When you drive like you ride i see no problem!!🎉this series hopefully gonna blow up on youtube! Cause it's gonna be very interessting
This channel is what I was waiting for. I dream of being a rally driver, but i don't really know how. And here comes you. Great idea and keep up on doing it!
I’ll definitely be following this as I am an active volunteer at some of the events in western Canada for the crc. I wish you luck man and may be in 2025. I’ll be checking your time card when you go out for a rip on the stage!
You got this! Hardest part of me racing short course Offroad trucks was getting to the first race. The rest is easy from there in comparison. 2 stock truck championships later, and there’s no better feeling than driving a stock vehicle at its maximum. Best experience ever. Highly recommend a simple saying, “you can’t win a race on the first corner, but you can surely lose one” Nothing beats that very first race feeling. I started at 25 I think starting older and actually working towards it. Wanting it, obsessing over it. Ripping around in a stock ranger pretending it’s a pro-4 . Made it THAT much better on race day. Good luck from Vegas!
Fellow MTB and Rally person here. I'm a codriver for a friend, currently building a new car after 3 years with our first car. A year is ambitious but totally possible. Shoot me a mesaage and I'll be happy to type up what I know. We codrivers are pretty organized lol.
Oh man this is my dream! I want to be a rally driver so bad, but man it seems so tremendously daunting!!! I wish you the best man and cannot wait to see the story unfold and hopefully catch you at the Lake Superior Rally for some MTB and Rally cars!
Stoked to watch your progress! Hopefully I'll get to see you at an ARA or NASA event some day! I do media at both. Hopefully I can get to a CRC event some day as well
My dude, as a former Edmontonian and current Calgarian I'm here in Calgary pulling for you! If you ever need a pit crew man I'm pretty solid on a rattle gun I'm here for you!
I MTB and sim race as well, just in part to honing better car control, I'm not sure if this is possible with logitech wheels, but make it more sensitive to steering input, less turning of the actual wheel to more turning of the car in game will force you to be much more precise and smooth, both will make you faster and have better technique, especially if you switch back to normal after a few months!
Do like I did. Step 1: Buy already built rally car Step 2: Re-prep rally car Step 3: Still sim game in-between waiting on parts Step 4 : Hope I find a Co-Driver Step 5: Enter first race. Mine is Show-me Rally in November
Step 1: Have alot of money Step 2: Have money Step 3: Money Step 4: Some more money Step 5: Have a tiny more money Step 6: Have connections, talent, be likable.
This is awesome man do it! I just messaged you on Instagram and you pointed me here. Hope you can get a ride soon. Just my 2 cents...get a cheap all wheel drive turbo and rip some back logging type roads for practice 😁 Radium is coming up soon.
