Update: Its been 6 days since the rash appeared. The pain in my chest and back are better. However the itching on my upper back is INTENSE. Like INTENSE. Sleeping is fun… My chest is drying out now. It’s not as bad - though I feel it at times. It’s still sensitive to touch. My arm pit is still very very sore - so moving my arm etc… not easy. I cannot get any 'anti itch' anything from the doctor until the 'rash' is trying - which it isn't on my back or armpit. The thing i disliked as much as the pain are the drugs I have to take. Combining antiviral and antibiotics is not fun. My entire body feels really really down. I still have 3 days of antiviral left. Shingles are no joke. It’s a nasty. Anyone out there suffering from it or who’s had it - you have my upmost sympathy. Thank you all for your comments.  Wayne xx

Shingles suck so much, I'm sorry Wayne. I had them in my scalp and down my neck. It was horrible. Every hair that got tugged on was like splitting pain, ugh. I hope you're feeling a bit better and the side effects from the drugs subside!

I am so sorry. My poor 95 year old mom got Shingles about 4 years ago on her face, in her mouth, in and on her nose, and nearly in her left eye. It was horrible!!!! My prayers for healing quickly and completely for you!

My husband had it a couple of years ago. It started as a small spot on his chest and moved under his armpit. He insisted that I get the shingles vaccines ( there is a series of 2) because he said it was THE WORST pain he's ever felt! This is a man that woke DURING his knee replacement surgery and he felt that shingles were worse. He got his vaccines immediately after the 6 months of waiting after shingles! I feel for you and I am sending good vibes your way for a quick and complete recovery. Get well SOON!

Oh, Wayne! I worked as an RN in a Pain Center, and I saw grown men come in crying, down on their knees. Praying you recover quickly. Makes me feel bad! Sometimes, Lyrica or Gabapentin works well. They work on that nerve pain. Praying for you!

Yes! This! Because shingles develop due to the virus infecting nerve cells, it is sometimes more helpful than other pain meds.

Shingles is the latent form of chickenpox...varicella virus. It hides in your dorsal root ganglian until a stressor activates it. There is no cure. It is a virus.

@ABc-nu6jb It is caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV) which is the virus that causes chickenpox. If you are younger you may have been vaccinated against chickenpox and so you might never get shingles unless you have an issue with your immune system. There are young adults that get it but they are usually people whose parents thought it was better... for some dumb reason... that their children get chickenpox instead of being vaccinated.

I’m so, so sorry, Wayne. I’m a shingles sufferer, and you are so right in saying you can’t imagine the pain if you’ve never had it. It also leaves you so drained and exhausted. It is truly debilitating. All I can say is take whatever painkillers you’ve been given, and rest, rest, rest! This is not the time to try and ‘push through’! I wish you a speedy recovery. Sending lots of care and strength to you. If you can manage some relaxation techniques, I strongly advise it. This will pass, and you will feel yourself again, even though you may not believe it! ❤️❤️❤️

you are so right in taking pain meds! So many think they can't take any of them because of all the drug addicts out there including Some Really bad Dr.s but, when you have nerve Pain, Shingles, Bone on bone pain, Arthritis and Fibromyalgia pain which is muscles and nerve pain, there is no one should say a word about what you take as they are not wearing your shoes. Sleep, eating healthy, keeping the people who like to stir up stress , the do's and don'ts when you have to deal with chronic pain. 🤗

Exactly to both of your comments. People who aren’t in chronic pain have no clue. People in this much pain go to pain clinics to see pain management specialists. These specialists develop a combination of drugs so that you can function during the day when you are taking your pain medications. Pain is debilitating. Pain is what causes exhaustion. Even when you have a chronic condition that requires pain management medication, it doesn’t completely get rid of all the pain. If you have a chronic condition, don’t let laypeople intimidate you into taking less of your pain medication. You are on specific medications for your condition. If you don’t take your pain medication, your quality of life will diminish and you will pay for it by being less functional.

I was offered the shingles vaccine and declined it but I’m now reconsidering. I just tend to have a super high immune response and I know I’ll be miserable for a couple days but you may have convinced me that it’s better than actually getting shingles. Hope you recover very soon!

In adulthood shingles is a no joke in terms of pain, it’s a strong virus that no good immune system can protect you well against pain. It takes a while to go away (I mean the virus will stay in your body forever just in a latent state). I do have this virus so no vaccine will do anything for me but I’m on an antiviral medication to keep the virus sleepy and avoid shingles.

I'm immune compromised. I had 4 rough days first shot , very sore arm and flu like symptoms. Second shot was like getting a flu shot, no problem. My husband, not immune comp4omised, had a rough time both shots. But this is nowhere near as bad as having shingles. If your doc okays it I would go for it. Shingrex lasts about 10 years.

Wayne, I had shingles last year and I used a topical for "sunburns". It had aloe vera and niacinamide in it. The rash and pox like bumps went away in a little over 24 hours. Everything, except one bump on my arm. It was a great relief but, I made the mistake of thinking that I was completely better because the aesthetic part was "gone". I was very wrong about that. I was still extremely sick for 2 weeks. However, the topical aloe vera and niacinamide were a godsend! Absolutely wonderful! I'll try to find exactly what I used and post it for you. Feel better! 💕

I had shingles on my left side of my eyelid up to my temple and could not sleep for a week. And I went to the eye doctor and was given the medication. Lucky I didn’t loose my site which was very grateful but had nerve issues up my left side of my temple up my head. Prayers for you to get better quickly.

I’m so so sorry Wayne. You have every right to complain and feel sorry for yourself! I have never suffered from this myself but as a pharmacist for 35 years now, I have seen so many cases and pray I never do. I really feel for you right now, as long-time viewer and I really appreciate the effort you made to update us as many people, myself included, have been concerned after your earlier video in which you talked about having pain in your arm, shoulder, back etc. I am sending prayers and thoughts for you and hope you will take care of yourself and take all the time you need to recover.

Probably you already know it, but better said then not.. the shingles can also be in the inside. Not all doctors keep that in mind( if they know it at all) The people i know handle this very well are the classical homeopaths. If you could find a good one where you live, it could be most helpful/ healing. Best greetings

Reminding me to get my shot! I've heard the horrendous stories and how there isn't really much you can do until it plays out. Can you believe some people get this on their face and around an eye?!? I got the shingles vaccine, and it's about time to get the 2nd shot, which fingers crossed, will save my future self! @@shortcake66 Thank you! At least it's in the past now. But I delayed in getting the vaccine never thinking I would get it in my eye. Even after the first time, I still procrastinated (also, covid lockdown hit shortly after). Not that getting it on the body isn't bad. Poor Wayne.

Hi Wayne, first off, considering what you’ve been through these past two days, thank you for fighting through the discomfort long enough to update your fans. Your post yesterday had me worried and I could tell you were not yourself. Personally, I have never contracted shingles but know people who did. I still remember the look on their faces when describing the symptoms. Let’s just say, that alone got my attention. Have you ever contracted chickenpox? I read that the virus responsible for chickenpox remains within your system and is known to reactivate as shingles. Wayne, you are in my prayers. Sending you much love from my home to yours. ❤❤❤❤

You can get a vaccine to prevent shingles.

If you’re over 50 and you’ve had chicken pox, go to your pharmacy and ask for the shingles vaccine. There’s a miniscule risk of getting a mild case of shingles, but it will protect you from this painful and debilitating viral outbreak. One never truly gets rid of the herpes zoster virus that causes chicken pox, it just hides quietly in your nervous system.

Did you have any negative side effects with the 2 part vaccination? I had the old Shingles shot several years ago. I have not opted for the new one because many people I know have gotten sick from from it. 🤷🏼 I feel like I'm pretty well protected having had Shingles and then getting the shot back then.

@@jann3443 I got the vaccines last year, too. I did get sick after the 2nd shot. It was like a mild flu and only lasted a day. 100 times better than getting shingles, which I've had. Having shingles doesn't make you immune or lessen them in the future. My aunt had them multiple times and each time was worse. That was before the vaccines.

@@jann3443I had my series last fall. Felt feverish for one day. Pretty much 0 side effects and even if there were they beat getting shingles and or the permanent damage they can cause

Oh Wayne, I read your update and am so glad you are starting to feel better. I have had shingles twice and it is hell plus the antiviral meds are a killer. I couldn’t wait till those seven days were over. They made my face swell up and just feel awful on top of already feeling terrible. You truly have my sympathy over this and I’m sending lots of hugs to you. I have to add, both times I got them I was totally stressed out over some situations and I truly believe that’s what brought them on. Take care, dear. 💖

I had it in 2019 , it was the worst I have ever felt in my life , the pain was worse then childbirth and it lasted for weeks , it felt like something was crawling under my skin and it was eating me alive , I know your pain, just rest up love . Eat well when you can and drink plenty of warm drinks , you will feel so cold , but you will be sweating a ton , try to sleep as much as you can , your body needs to rest so it can fight , I hate to say this , but it took me 3 months to feel well after wards , it wrecked me , sending best wishes , get well soon

Awwww 🥺 no wonder you’ve been feeling awful. I had shingles in 2021 and it was SHEER HELL. And I had it just like you have it: upper torso, reached into and under my armpit, across my breasts, wrapping around onto my upper back. Mine both itched and burned. It hurt down deep to my bones. I feel soooo sorry now for anyone who gets shingles. 🥺🙏🏻 bless your heart. After 6 months have passed, you can get the Shingrix vaccine. You get 2 shots 6 months apart. What really got me to go get the shots is that the vaccine prevents it from returning, and people DO sometimes get shingles and then Bells Palsy (facial droop and paralysis forever), and that’s just too much of a chance for me. Yes, you can get shingles over and over. Unfortunately I got it AGAIN (a second time) before the 6 months had passed to get the vaccine. The second time was worse I hate to tell ya. The key: avoid STRESS and sleep and eat well. Take care of yourself.

I’ve had the first shot and I was sick for a week but I’ve also had shingles and I guess getting the 2 dose vaccine is worth it although I’ve heard the second shot is even worse than the first. Was that your experience?

@@marcywendt9583 if I’m being perfectly honest - I was so nervous to get the second shot - however, I did not experience any side effect from the first one. But I also heard what you heard - that the 2nd shot is worse. I did experience stomach pain and felt like I had the flu for a couple of days after the 2nd shot but I also feel I’d rather feel like I had the flu for a few days than get Shingles!! I would say get the 2nd shot - it really wasn’t that bad!! Best of luck!!!

@@marcywendt9583I had both the older version of the shingles vaccine and the new one - Shingrix - and I had no side effects from either version, other than a sore shoulder where i got the shot.

This poor guy can not catch a break. Wishing you the best. I live with a neurological disorder that makes up intense pain and causes inflammation in the worst places- head, joints, gut... its horrible. Been doing this for so many years, i lost count. No one cares or does anything to help it. I really feel for you and everyone living with serious pain.

As to no one cares I think the thing is no one can see your pain or imagine how it feels. I hope you don't mind me adding my 2 cents worth but I live with chronic pain after a back injury at work which I was forced to leave. I feel like my doctor does not care and keeps trying to cut my medication down even though the pain specialist prescribes it. My work place managers certainly did not care. Best wishes to you

Wayne, I hope you read this. I had horrible shingles last year. Really unbearable. I'm someone who does regular fasting, and I don't know why but it didn't occur to me until a few weeks into the awfulness to try fasting, but when I did it cut the pain by about 80% and the healing of all the sores sped up as well. I ended up doing a 10 day water fast at the end of which I was healed. I'd advise this to anyone going through this. Prayer helps too! God bless you. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

I caught shingles when 15yrs old on my neck, so I feel for you. It's SO painful, plus the treatment I had was topical and was so agonizing it froze the muscles and I had to just lie back on the bed for 5mins until the pain subsided. Not pleasant at all, but at least treatment works. Get well soon Wayne, you'll start to feel better in a few days - look forward to then!

You don’t “catch” shingles. Shingles is caused by varicella-zoster virus, (Chicken Pox). The virus remains in the body but is inactive (becomes dormant) in certain nerves in the body. Shingles occurs after the virus becomes active again in these nerves. There is no age limit.
