I've said elsewhere it's accurate, reliable, sturdy, totally dependable&made to shoot all day, absorbing recoil well. It's heavy but quite comfortable to shoot. Nothing fragile about this firearm.
Have a Star M45 45acp. Purchased new sometime in the mid 90s. 34 rounds fired, have original box and all contents. Have the first and only box of ammo purchased for that gun with 16 rounds remaining. Came close to selling it a couple of times and now glad that did not happen. Nice gun but heavy as hell.
I have been a big fan of the Firestar since I purchased mine years ago. Never a failure to feed, fire and eject. Accurate and mine has a pretty decent trigger. I passed it along to my son a few years ago and he is still enjoying it. Yep, it's heavy, but that weight sure feel reassuring in hand.
Small, heavy, yet "proper" as I see it. Built with old world technology with a modern mindset in design. Truly ahead of its time and built with competence and good materials, I can see why people can really appreciate them today. I would love to own one of these properly (there's that word again) made firearms.
I've had My Firestar m-40 since 94. It's heavier than my Glock 22 but easier to shoot. With a 40 s&w in such a small pistol you really begin to appreciate that weight.
LOVE my Star Firestar M43. It's my EDC. Yes, it's heavy compared to all the polymer strikers out there, but its function, size & reliability is excellent. Since i got it so cheap, it became my 1st refinish project. Did a complete breakdown (the only vid on RU-vid I could find to help was in Spanish, but I got it dome, lol) & refinished in Duracoat FDE w/ Alumahyde OD green accents (trigger, hammer & pins, safety, takedown pin, mag release) & polished the barrel & guide rod to a mirror shine. I also got rid of the annoying magazine safety by grinding off the tab that contacts the mag so it drops free instead of having to strip it out. Parts availability is def a downside, but then again they sell for so cheap that if it ever broke beyond fixing I'd just replace it altogether! Anyway, great gun & will probably get another soon.
Heavy, low round count, tough to find a holster. BUT my M40 is still the best pistol I own that puts the bullet exactly where I want. This thing shoots for ME and that is really what matters!!
I showed mine to a local LEO. He whipped out his Sig 365. Nice but not for me. I bought the 40 cal new in 1993. Accurate and a smooth trigger. No failures. Not For Sale.
I own 3 and let me say this when you run out of bullets this is a gun that turns into a defense tool. You eye check someone with the butt and they are done
true, that is the idea, its a war minded weapon you can kill someone with no amo. Best steel from the basque country manufactered with high precission. Its from Eibar, Guipuzcoa, my home.
I bought one brand new in my 20’s. It’s one of the few I’ve manage to keep all these years. Love shooting it. I was still able to track down trijicon sights for it.
Does it have a feed ramp that is made to handle hollow points? I know a lot of those old guns were made to shoot fmj rounds, and can hang up when shooting hollow points. Like the Star BM. Its made to shoot fmj rounds. Some peolle complain that the gun jams with hollow points, since its feeding ramp was designed specifically for fmj rounds.
The one thing I don't like is the top of the trigger. If you hold the trigger finger high it will get pinched after firing because there is a gap that gets exposed after bringing the trigger all the way back.
Love my Star Firestar Plus 9mm 13rd great accurate an built like a tank reliable. 1911 style but very compact. The did make a 45acp an a 40s&w. Also hve the Star Ultrastar 9mm Double/single another very good pistol.
Weight is the only issue I've ever seen. A friend had a 9mm in an IWB. It kept pulling his pants down!! I've had one for I don't-know-how-long, never a problem. Have shot a few +ps without trouble. Also disabled magazine safety immediately on acquisition. No regrets!!
I've had two M40 and two M45s. First two were blued.Still have one of each in Starvel. Their stainless. I have four 45s. But my M40 is still my EDC since 1994.
the firestar is a very good looking gun ... my firstar 9mm nickel finished version is a jam o matic ... fails to extract several times per mag. I can almost never shoot a whole mag and that's only 7 rounds.
I bought a 9mm. First two mags 10 failure to eject. Took it back to the pawn shop where I bought it and their smithy put a new extractor in it. No issues since.
It’s a nice looking pistol and it’s hard to find many other 9mms of that small size, everything else that size at a nearby store was in .380 or smaller. I love full alloy pistols, but it’s really too bad it’s not also double action.
I had one in the early to mid '90s, and like these guys said, it just ~ *fit* ~. Wish I hadn't sold it to get the trending ugly polymer ones by that Austrian company...
Star FireStar Plus 13rd with a mag disconnect. One really good gun its a tank. If you see a Firestar Plus, grab it. I have 3, 45acp and the two 9 Plus.
I bought a firestar 9mm with the starvel finish 20 yrs. ago. I had just received my PI credentials. I open carried and conceal carried this fine weapon.I do not mind the weight at all. I have fired this pistol a thousand times and it looks and fires the same as the day I bought it! Never once failed! I will pass this weapon to a family member or close friend. They all want it, so whomever I choose will be the envy of the rest!
Getting rid of the magazine safety is the best mod u can do to this gun. If u want to get rid of it also & have ur mags drop free nice & smoothly, its very easy to do. Take off the right grip & u will see a bar connected to the mainspring pin running vertical up the frame. The little tab at the top of that bar that bends into the magwell just beneath the trigger bar is what causes the friction on the mag not allowing it to drop free. Grind that down till it no longer interferes with the mag. Also grind down the top of the bar so it cannot block any movement of the trigger bar. U can do all this w/out taking the entire pin out. But if u want take the pin out all the way so u can do a nice job, make sure u replace the pin with a punch so u dont have to re-compress the mainspring to put the pin back in. After looking at it u will see that it's not hard to do at all & u will def enjoy not having to mess with that mag safety anymore!
i really wished I picked up one of those Firestar 9mm back in the mid-90s when I had the chance. Opted for a then newfangled Kahr K9 instead and that turned out to be mistake. The K9 had a great striker fire trigger system, but it was just unreliable as all hell. As a 1911 shooter, I should have stuck with the Firestar from the beginning even if it was a little heavy for the size.
Hello greetings from Dallas Texas a question I hope you can help me I bought that pistol for $ 200 I want to know if you got it at a good price or how much does one of those pistols cost.
im 50 and let me tell you, these are as good as the highest quality firearms ever designed and built. I was in my 20s when I found my first one. It was a 31P that had a worn extractor, I replaced that and was hooked for life. If you are in the market and encounter one buy it!!! You will be addicted. You will collect them. I currently have a Firestar Plus Hi Cap 9mm Starvel, a 30M and Model B Nazi contract. They simply do not make them like this any more. You can buy a plastic wonder, but if you want to stand at the crossroads of quality and innovation this is the weapon to own.
Spain have good steel ....since olds times a knight with Tolede Steel sword was respected. Now in 2021 its allways great reputation .... TOLEDO in Spain and SOLINGEN in Germany both produce one of best Steel of world ( lonely Sweedish steels surpass them ...)
I still have my old Firestar in 45acp and next to my orginal Detonics Combat Master it is still my favorite compact 45. Concealed carry gun. Yes its heavy but that can be a good thing especially in a 45. Its a pleasure to shoot even with Underwoods full pressure defensive loads in 45 +p.
Yeah they were ahead of their time, back them there was a lot of draft dodgers making corporate decisions and they were not good at seeing into the future. Those guns would sell like Carne Asada Burritos today!!!! I like the old steel S&W semi autos and these Star Fire stars look good. I had two LLAMA's in the past and loved them.
