Omar, love your content! Help me out! We do need Fuji version of Rikoh GRIII but at least weather sealed. There is a niche of ultralight cameras for hikers and trail runners which see the best scenery but can't take better than phone quality pictures. I think Fuji can do much better! I know fuji people listen to the bloggers like you. Please pass my scream from the depth of my soul!

I know you are kidding but seriously the main issues with the newest generation Fujifilm X-system cameras are still the LAME AUTOFOCUS algorithm (that can be partially overcome by the faster sensor readout in X-H2s but not in X-H2 and X-T5), and the lack of a COMPACT NORMAL ZOOM (with the focal length from 16 mm, e.g. a 16-55 R LM WR with F/2.8-4 or even only F/4, no need for OIS) that could fully utilize that new 40 MP sensor to be bundled with X-H2 and X-T5 (these cameras come with zooms not up to this task which doesn't make any sense). Of course, they may not be the problems for users doing landscapes or using the newest prime lenses like XF33/1.4 (XF16-55/2.8 R LM WR obviously negates the smaller weight and size of X-T5), but I will wait for the much better algorithm. Have fun with your X-T5.

My XT-2 is a pile of unreliable crap. First was the battery grip. It wouldn't work properly with third party batteries. With fully charged batteries the camera kept saying they needed to be charged. Then the EVF starting playing up, going into the auto setting for no reason. Fuji replaced the entire top plate which, to be fair, cured the problem. Next the autofocus became intermittent at best. It would mis-focus regularly even in single point mode. I cleaned the contacts and updated the firmware in all the lenses and camera body. It made no difference. Then it would only work at F11 on all my lenses. I reloaded the firmware update but again made no difference. I don't know whether to get it repaired or throw it away. Utter rubbish. Do yourself a favour and buy anything Nikon or Canon makes. Fuji is junk.

This one is my very first Fujifilm camera! Have been heavily used it for 8 days. Man, I feel like a 6 years old me when my Dad bought me a small Pentax point-and-shoot: never thought that feeling would find me ever again. This camera is so much fun to use, and it is a beast! I also love the ergonomics, normally you would need 2 steps to set the exposure (choose a pasm mode and adjust), here all the settings are done with one step. Ergonomically the classic dials, function buttons and horizontal wheels make this camera a perfect tool for any slow or fast scenario. When I decided to switch to a Fujifilm camera from my old Ricoh GR II, I thought about an X-S10. The grip, the weight, the ibis are great. The X-T4 seemed a bit bulky for me. However, I decided to spend more money on an X-T5, since it is a camera almost as compact as an X-S10, but you get the X-T ergonomics and all the latest technologies. After getting the camera I realize the 40 mp sensor does matter (especially if you go with a prime lens like I normally do), since it's so great for cropping or even for zooming digitally. The tilt screen is great for getting perfect angles. The ibis helps to take some great pictures with slow shutter speed. And most importantly, the size and weight make it a toy-looking thing you love to carry around and people on streets don't think it's a professional camera. Just like the Ricoh GR. I also love the AF, maybe for a Sony user it sucks, but for street photography I didn't have any issues so far. I personally don't think the camera is overpriced. However, for a personal budget it is expensive. So if you go with less expensive fujifilm cameras, you can't go wrong.

I bought one, I love it. Moved from an XT3 which served me well, I never bothered with the XT4 as it was bigger and had a flippy screen yuk. So the XT5 is smaller and gives more shots than the XT4, it has ibis which is good indeed, the AF is faster and I found the eye detection works very well indeed, and tracking is better. the old kit lens and the 14mm prime seem to work very well, the 70/300 is awesome. I don't have a problem with LR as I use Adobe RAW. As for video, I don't use it, as for a battery grip? Why make a beautifully aesthetic camera bigger?

I have an X-T2 and bought it just as the X-T3 was launched. It was heavily discounted because of this and came with the XF 18-55 lens for £900. My T2 could now be considered old and a good few generations on I could realistically justify treating myself to the X-T5. Except of course for the considerable financial outlay which, for me would be excessive especially in these times of financial crisis considering that the T2 is still an excellent camera and I love it. IBIS would be nice though 🤔

Thanks for the video! The autofocus is 100% an issue. I just got back from my first trip with the X-T5 and there are way too many photos where the focus is off and the camera had indicated (green square) the image was focused. For me Fuji has a short window to correct this issue or there will be a like new X-T5 for sale........

It‘s been an issue even with AF-S since the X-T2 generation. You can focus on a static subject multiple times and each time the focus point will be different resulting in muddy images. Just nobody is talking about it.

The WR version of the 27mm is in the list. The vintage version is not. They are supposed to have the same optical formula so I think they left out all lenses that are no longer in the current catalogue. My vintage 27mm performs as well pixel peeping as my 35mm F2, which is on the list. All of my lenses perform well even the cheap manual focus ones, which are even more fun with IBIS. My 16-80 is not on the list but it seems like it has a new life on the X-T5. My 70-300 autofocus on the X-T5 is much better than on my X-T3. I love the shutter release. Its more like the X-T1.

Buying camera equipment is always about compromises.. the X-T5 is a beautiful camera and I'm sure it's wonderful to shoot.. the 3 positives you point out, don't really affect me.. My X-T2 has the tilty screen, I rarely need IBIS (and have the stabilized 18-55 for those rare video needs), and I always shoot with a battery grip.. I also shoot an X-E3 with smaller lenses/walk around.. 2 of the negatives are big negatives for me.. no optional battery grip is a no go.. the 90mm lives on my T2 and I shoot it 98% of the time in portrait mode. I took 3,000 shots at a fashion show the other day and it would have been really uncomfortable without the grip. The same show was scheduled to be an outdoor event, but rain pushed it to a poorly lit restaurant and I spent the day forced to shoot at ISOs as high as 12,800, I usually don't like to go above 6400, but the T2 handled it pretty well. Would I like better battery life and AF, heck yea, but the T2 has been a workhorse, never freezes, never overheats, never gives me any problems. I've got to have around 200,000 shots on it. When it finally gives up the ghost, I will go for a later model, but til then, I have no reason to change.

Honestly the file size is a great reason to stay away glad you mentioned that! Larger cards can be justified, as can more hard drives, but the backup crisis is real 40mp accelerates that. Best choice I made was to focus on getting better lenses - the 26mp sensor really can look amazing with the right lens and good light. I would rather invest in, say, a strobe this year, and an XT6 in 2 years if it has a battery GRIP (or perhaps a used XH2S down the road if they fix it). Frankly Fuji should bring the STACKED sensor to another body - god-mode autofocus would be way more useful to me than more megapixels so far since missed focus on easy shots is one of my biggest aggravations.

At this point- Fujifilm has nearly reached the absolute limit of an APSC sensor's capability. Their next big leaps will likely be to combine the qualities of their current 40mp and stacked 24mp sensors. After that? Idk. If they could apply all this to their GFX sensors. Increase the read/write speed, optimize the files a bit to cut down on size, and maybe cut the price down a tiny bit? Fuji may actually succeed at leapfrogging full frame. Making medium format a viable option next to their full frame competition.
@Spikesw15
@Spikesw15 Год назад
Since I now have an X-T5, needlessly upgrading from a perfectly adequate X-T4, I have resolved the file size issues of moving from a 26mp sensor to 40mp in two ways (1) by buying an old 16mp X-T1 at the same time. 1x 16mp shot + 1x 40mp shot roughly equals 2x26mp shots (in my head at least) so as long as I alternate shots between the X-T1 and the X-T5, I shouldn’t need any more disk space than I used for the X-T4 (whilst also saving shutter count for the X-T5 at the same time), and (2) I shall only use low resolution older lenses on the X-T5, so won’t be getting the full 40mp resolution anyway (because if I can’t see the difference in resolution, neither can my Mac, right?). And if the above logic is technically flawed 😉I will keep all three cameras but not shoot with any of them, thus avoiding the storage and processing issues completely. See, any gear acquisition can be justified if you just try hard enough.

Set spot focusing, make the box really small and put it right in the eye, but Michael the lens used seems to make a difference to the eye focusing at least on the X-T3 On the XF 35 F/1.4 even @ F/1.4 eye focus works 90% of the time, but if i use a zoom lens e.g. 16-80 F/4 it seems to not hit the eye as well as the 35 does
@miljo2146

The issue is known, just nobody is talking about it. Not just portraits. Even in normal AF-S focusing on a static subject multiple times will lead to different focus points and therefore inconsistent results. It has been an issue since the X-T2 generation.

I am pretty happy that X-T line is back to photography first, and X-H is now the Hybrid. I got my X-T5 on release date and have been enjoying it so much. Love everything about it. I will be curious about future firmware updates they may make, I think some of the hybrid control items could be added to allow shutter speed and such to be saved to custom mode if you are using touch controls for video. But yeah, love the new viewfinder, having IBIS, the new custom mode settings, 3 way tilt screen, etc. Having an X-T3 (now a second body), i was always frustrated they never gave the X-T3 the custom mode features that the X-T4 had (white balance and clarity, etc). But I have them now! I am finding myself using JPG more than RAW, as those are coming out cleaner than RAW at higher ISO, and I always do appreciate not sitting at the computer. My X-T3 is now a backup body, and really loving where the X-T line is going…back to it’s roots.

I love my XH1 and was seriously disappointed when the XH2 removed several of XH1 features (tilt screen, focus mode lever, clickable back dial). So I waited for the XT5 but despite the increased resolution, several youtube videos put photos side by side (the XT5 40 mp sensor and XT 24 mp) showing no significant difference. Perhaps it is because it is on youtube, perhaps it wasn't cropped in, but if there is no difference at all in effective real life resolution, then maybe I should stay with the XH1.
@aristotle_4532
@aristotle_4532 Год назад
The resolution advantage in LPH is quite small and rarely a visible advantage, only in very low iso, and with a hit in noise, and slower workflow. A good lens can double the corner resolution of the older models and improve aberrations, which is a massive improvement in some applications and the real problem of imaging. Good lenses cost a lot more money though, while a megapixel increase is easy to sell to amateurs.

As a street camera, the X-T5 could easily be a forever camera for me with its 500,000 shutter count rating, high resolution sensor, light weight overall system, IBIS, and weather sealing for use in the PacNW. Even the so called lesser glass has a noticeable uptick in quality even if a bit soft in the edges on occasion. Some of us are waiting to see what vintage adapted glass performs like at ISO 4000, monochrome+ye jpeg, *and* printed as it seems like the X-T2/X-Pro2/X-E3 have a special sauce there that the 26mp camera’s do not.

I'm disappointed to say at least, compared to the solid built of the X-T2 the X-T5 has no heft, the buttons are like bubbling wiggles, the doors sound terribly plastiky and feel awful, fake. The screen has no resistance and also wiggles. The compensation dial turns smoothly and have no clicking whatsoever. The bigger lens have terrible front balance more so than the X-T2. And this is only with it a few minutes.

I just bought a second X-T3 instead. I already have six batteries for my first X-T3 so I can share them now. Yes I do wish I had the bigger battery in the XT-3 but I can live with it and I am happy. Oh, and I can use the battery grip on both of the cameras. 🎉 P.S. love your honest reviews!

That noise tolerance I would Definitly go with XH2s same price but lower megapixel. "If I had the moneyyyyy chachingggggggg I wish Fujifilm Makes a Flagship Compact Size XT3 type of Camera with Low Megapixel Count similar to the First A7s series there is a demand for those types of photographers who dont want the extra megapixel but less *for efficient workflow along with high Iso tolerance If they make a XT5s *for Sensitivity 20mp sensor I would be happy boy

For xh2s im gonna give you A TIP When using flog2 The xh2s has a dual gain iso feature Meaning yes the native iso is 1200 But whats intresting here that you can bump to 3200 iso where the second gain kicks in and cleans up the captured up to 50% of the noise This is only noticible after applying the grade in post Youd still get some noise but its alot cleaner than iso 2500 Do this and also use a higher rsolution than 1080p Do keep in mind that this system isnt a dual base iso camera unlike a canon c400 or a redkomodo Your low light footage will look really nice as the noise generated is organic and has a filmic look to it unlike other brands that have a chroma noise pattern that ruins skin tones As for the xh2 and xt5 the dual gain iso kicks in at flog2 iso 2500 The xt5 and xh2 are a higher res sensor and thus prone to more noise in lowlight The xt4 when using flog1 kicks in at iso2000 Im surprised that fuji doesnt advertise this feature unlike sony or blackmagic.....etc Now my question for fujifilm Does the xs20 have a dual gain iso similar to xh2s given that it has the new procesor??? Any xs20 flog2 users out there that can confirm this?!?

like you say the image stabilisation is a big + compare to the Xt3 for birds because i dont like the ergonomic of the H2 and H2s and they are bigger. Especially when you put the 150-600mm there is a big problem to find a good bag to fit in it.

Great video, Omar. I never gave the "5" a second thought. I have two X-T3 bodies (plus several previous generation models) and never felt as a stills only shooter that I couldn't get the images that I want from my current gear. Additionally, as a Nikon shooter in the past, I remember when Nikon brought out the D800 and immediately rendered terrific favorite lenses as not good enough anymore due to the 36mp capture. I have a dozen XF lenses, most great at 16 to 26mp, so I don't want to find that 40mp is too much a leap out resolving the glass. Again, thanks for your honesty.

I prefer the XE & XPro lines & since I didn't like certain aspects of the XE4 & XPro3 I'm still firmly with the 24mp & older 16mp models without any issues. I will of course look critically at the next iterations of those lines that will likely embody some XT5 features, but it's all the other add-ons that factor into the buying decision like increased computer storage, computer power and required software updates. For the time being I'll be concentrating on the best lens range for my existing cameras. A new model will have of offer exceptional improvements for me to buy.

Manual focus bug? Focus peaking no longer gives a clear viewfinder image when the shutter is half pressed (as it does with the X-T2, X-T3 and X-T4 and X-100F etc.). After spending £1700 on this camera, I'm seriously disappointed not to be able to see a clear image when focusing manually. I’ve tested three X-T5s and they all have this bug,… this is supposed to be a photographers dream, but with compromised manual focusing I'm surprised no reviewer has mentioned it. Does anyone else see this issue?

Just like the X-T3, X-T4 and X-T5... for me those cameras are just way too expensive to play outside with and for that reason I got the X-T30 mk. II instead. I'm a hobby photographer, I don't need ''the best gear''. Also, the X-T30 mk. II does exactly the same still images as any other X-Trans IV/III camera; I don't do video. Sure, IBIS would be nice, weather sealing would be nice... but so far I can still enjoy and do photography without those features. I fully agree with Omar, don't pay for what you do not need. In other words, don't spend money unless the new camera/gear will improve your work/hobby.

I buy used. I have bought used since I turned pro (to do event and product work) I know that the pitiful human eye can detect resolution of about 300 DPI and much more than that is a simple waste. I would rather a 22 meg resolution chip than a 40. the extra just takes up more space on hard drive and online storage that serves no purpose

I always have lots of fun shooting Fujifilm but when I look at the results, they are very underwhelming. The upgrade was the right choice for me from the X-T2. Plus as you get older, your hands are not as rock-steady as they used to be, so going from a camera with zero image stabilization to one that has it is awesome! Plus, I had no problem finding a buyer for my X-T2. My rule-of-thumb is the old camera needs to finance the purchase of the new camera. Nice video Omar.

Good points, except for 2 things: the noise issue pretty much depends on the software you're using and prices for Fuji cameras on the used market are skyrocketing (the X-Pro3 and the X100V are more expensive now than when I bought them, brand new, a couple of years ago). Anyway thanks for sharing your thoughts on this and have fun!

Thanks for solving my upgrade urge. I think I’ll stick with my XT-2 for now. Thank Omar, a great insight. As an XT3 shooter I got very excited at the thought of more megapixels, ( cropping, zoom reach etc etc ) . I am glad I waited as the prevailing view now seems to be that its not the big step we thought from Xt3 or 4. I think my head is now moving in the direction of another lens, maybe 100 to 400 and then later a significant upgrade up to GFX for landscape photography as I ( hopefully ) progress.

@WatchmanNiel
@WatchmanNiel Год назад
I’m not going to say the X-T5 is perfect (no grip, tiny HDMI) but to put it in context it blows the X-T3 away. Just the autofocus by itself is a massive upgrade, the fact that it has IBIS is a low light game changer and you can now use your smaller lenses without hesitation, and many other improvements - more megapixels for wildlife cropping and also pixel shift. Just even the larger battery alone makes a substantial difference. Since you are going to get more shots in focus with this camera, coupled with the other workflow advantages, it really makes for a practical upgrade. For me there is no question that this is a worthy upgrade over the X-T3 which I loved and used all the time. It is only a debatable question of whether the X-H2 with its even better specs, ergonomics and handling would have been a better alternative. Overall, I am really happy with the X-T5, absolutely no regrets or doubts on upgrading from the X-T3.
@rbos6001
@rbos6001 Год назад
@@WatchmanNiel fully agree with you. Bought the X-H2 instead of the X-T5, stepping up from the X-T3 which I still own. The autofocus is a very big upgrade even over the X-T4 which I tried out before purchasing the X-H2. I finally use the eye autofocus more often and dare to trust it even though its not 100% its very usable for my needs. The reason I chose the X-H2 over the X-T5 because the X-H2 solved a problem with its 7 custom modes that the X-T series could not. Namely easily switch from genre eg landscape to bird in flight. Also the decrease in low light is very minor. You see more noise because you have more detail with 40mp, but printing it I didnt notice any difference with my X-T3. For me low light abilities are the same with an extra benefit of ibis in the newer models.
