I highly recommend Hondata for the CVT. If you have a Honda si get KTUNER instead. 

True I don't torture my transmission everyday. I just daliy drive most of the time. I rarely do pulls with it

@@EARTHSOUL_Asm so when your flooring the peddle If you give it gas but about 85-90 percent throttle but gradually let off a bit so the transmission shifts faster and brings you more up to speed Worked very well on my accord Before I just recently got t-boned

@@fk.justus4896 probably the best way to do it tbh. A lot of hellcats around here know me because i drive one specific route. stopped racing them after my accident, but every once in a while they like to pull up and surround me. Ig just to say they got better cars at this point idk lol.

My maxima would’ve walked my civic, it’s always in its power band and could have any gear it needed almost immediately. They just suck for power applications, anything over 300hp on a belt driven Cvt is bad news

Ktuner is kind of cheaper than hondata. But I've heard hondata runs better for honda CVT because they keep it on a safe base map tune.

I tested that with the paddle shifters and traction control off. Pretty quick and not too shabby

I highly recommend a tune if you wanna have more fun with your drive. There's two types of tunes. Their is Hondata and Ktuner. I've heard Hondata is safer for the CVTs. But Ktuner comes with a display screen which allows you too see what PSI your pushing and you can also see your gauges. Hondata is does allows you too see your gauges but you will need to install honda hack too see your gauges.

@Donald Zuramp yes I changed my cvt fluid. I stuck with the honda hcf-2 fluid then I say after 25k miles I changed my cvt fluid to amsoil cvt fluid

Honda CVT can handle that power. The only thing that breaks it if you upgrade too a bigger turbo or push too much torque

I had to tune it to stop the fake shifting. I really don't mind the fake shifting because I really don't race every day. Honda program their CVT too act like a automatic on a daliy basis

I never tested my top speed on Hondata. I don't plan too push it too top speed. But I believe 1.5L honda civic has 137mph on top speed. It won't go pass that

Yes hatchback CVT can handle the power and torque but as long as you don't push too much power and over torque the transmission because something will break like the cvt belt. But I highly recommend Hondata for the CVT if your looking to have fun with your drive

I've driven stick for years, infact my 2019 coupe ex-t is my first ever cvt and only my 3rd automatic ever. I've owned A LOT of cars since 1999 too. Anyway, I got to say my coupe feels extremely quick for cvt. Like there's times it actually freaks me out a little of quick it is. I've been thinking about going ktuner, but you really think hondata?

@@vermontvermont9292 yes hondata is better for honda CVT but hey you can always run ktuner too if you want too. I believe KTUNER comes with a display screen that you can see your psi boost or whenever your on the throttle you can see it accelerate on display screen

@@fk.justus4896 cause i tried once when i launch the car, the turbo didn’t spool up around 1 to 2seconds somewhere 2-4k rpms but went up well given the car is stock ecu tune so maybe if i buy hondata flash prolly will get the turbo spool faster and more power on the 3k rpm bands

I mostly learn how too tune my CVT from RU-vid. It's very resourceful that will teach you how too tune and set up your tune

Honestly I would have went with Ktuner but I wanted to give hondata a try so I went with that instead

So far so good

Ive been using ktuner on my cvt for about a year now and its fast. But i can already tell it’s hurting the transmission. If you drive like grandma and abide all laws ur car will be fine. But 0-60s kill the tranny. Ive done a total of 3-4 brake launches holding the gas and brake down to remove the lag, all of which i was peer pressured into doing lol. Its already hurting it. My 0-60s suffer and im getting there in about 6 seconds which is about 1-2 seconds slower than when i started with the ktuner. I dont seem to notice the difference from a rolling start but it has to be there. It still feels fast from roll starts. Ive been told hondata is faster, so its strange to see people recommending ktuner over it. Ive since slowed down on all the racing, my poor engine feels like its been driven for 100k miles and its at 48k. Careful with the 0-60s, and if u got friends like mine ask them if their gonna pay for it when it blows. They say no? Well too bad get your own civic then instead of ruining mine.

@Gavin Eastburn it's ok to gun it once in awhile with Ktuner. But I would not recommend gunning it everyday because it wears out the CVT. Same goes for the manual hatchback because I've seen people already blowing their engine and transmission at the same time

I dont even have the time to go out and do runs my work keeps my car alive. That being said its like getting a hit of crack for an addict. When i go back to it i get a rush. Im actually trying to repair my car rn as well as i was in an accident thanks to an 18 wheeler that blew a tire a few cars ahead. Count myself lucky it didnt fly thru the windshield

You can buy it on Hondata website or you can also buy ktuner. Ktuner makes tunes foe 2.0 non turbo as well

Well I've heard that it was safer for Honda CVT. But Ktuner is pretty good as well. It comes with a display screen and you can flash any tune you want on the go. But beware of going too stage 2 or stage 3 tunes because CVT might slip. Same goes for the 6 speed manual transmission

It will be fine man. Hondata Tune is safe and reliable for Honda CVT. You can tune your CVT and it will be fine just don't launch it and brake boost because that's what wears out your CVT. CVT with the stock turbo plus Tune will be fine with your bolt on mods. If you upgrade too a bigger turbo mostly the ball bearing turbos that's when your CVT will start too slip.

I had mines Tune already for 40000 miles and it's still being reliable. My CVT is still going strong.

Just take care of your CVT and be on time for the maintenance. Remember if your making more power that's when your maintenance is coming sooner. If you are tuning your CVT I highly recommend you switch too Amsoil CVT fluid it's way better than the OEM CVT fluid from Honda

My civic is at 76k miles now. Still being reliable and still saving gas. The power is very responsive no slippage when on throttle. Everything is still running smooth

Honda makes one of the best CVTs in the market. Same with Toyota CVTs.

Hondata will be ok for your LX trim and of course if you tune your car it will not pass smog unless you flash your car back to the stock tune. I'm not gonna pass smog because I'm tune and I have aftermarket parts.

Yes I believe you are right about the carb smog test. As long as you don't have a check engine light then it should pass

I just heard it's safer for the cvt that's all so I went with hondata but I heard that ktuner has different stages of tunes and it also comes with a display screen. I also heard that you can flash any tune you want on the go without a laptop with ktuner

Well there's really no shift point too a CVT. It's basically one gear with a sets of gear ratio that changes slowly

Compare to a regular automatic when you press on the throttle it would have to downshift 2 gears which can be slow.

He's also in "sport" mode. Which really isn't like a sport mode in a regular step gear automatic. In the civic cvt it's actually more like a 2nd gear. So it will hold the "gear" longer.

That would make you slower and probably causes more wear on the transmission

It's pretty reliable man I recommend you stay on the street map housing intake if your running a big turbo. Also custom tuning helps the CVT big time

No sweat it man I am gonna do a little turbo upgrade but it's still 1.5L but this new turbo is better than the stock turbo and spools alot quicker than the stock turbo and it has 9 blades instead of 11 so it's gonna have more top end power

It's ok im not pushing tons of power it's basically a base tune. I've seen other fk7 owners running a big turbo on there CVT and going E85. So what your seeing on mines is nothing. But thanks for your concern. My CVT is fine and still drivable 🙂🙂

@makkopals8994 because car enthusiasts wants Honda Type R only 6 speed manual transmission. It's for the pure enthusiasts. The Type R may not be that fast on a dig pull or a drag race pull but it different pulls some G around the mountains and the handling is amazing
