In the southwest US the name for those occasional watercourses is "wash" and they are super dangerous. Bone dry most of the time, they become raging rivers in an instant when there is rain in the mountains. Sometimes that rain is far enough away you don't know about it. Cross them quickly; don't hike in them If there is no fast way OUT.

Hallo Benjamin, in December 2009 we visited la palma, stayed in a house in punta gorda, and witnessed the edge of a tropical storm, for two days we had to stay inside the house, no elektricity , no internet... raining like mad, a lot of roads damaged by landslides, there was a roadcollapse in puerto tazacorte near the beach , it was a wild river till the beach. In the direction of fuencaliente the roads where collapsed by landslides , i think the road is not completely finished. Thank you for the nice scenery, friendly greetings from out of Belgium

Thank you again BB for this latest update. The river seemed very powerful at several narrower points there. I can see why it could be dangerous, the must be a lot of water draining off the mountains. Stay safe and well BB. God bless you and your family and much 💖 .

I was on la Palma years ago. We got to stay an extra day.. and were able to stay in our own room.. cause we would be leaving with a plane that could not land. Islands like la palma always have fast flowing rivers for short times after rain. Our guide told us to never hike in the mountains when it rained. Cause of the flashfloods.
