I Hired 3 Designers to Redesign My Bedroom 

Sliding door wardrobe, single best design decision I have ever made. It's remarkable how wardrobe doors that open out eat into your floor space.

I'm very impressed that each of the designers did a great render of your room, including the colours and the art and the neon sign. That alone is an amount of work that I thought would cost more. Also, in these Fiverr videos, I'm used to seeing at least one result being a scam and either not personalised or somewhat auto-generated, so it's nice to see you got actual professionals that knew what they were doing (for example with the lamps) and put in the effort at every price point.

You could move your current drawers under your window / opposite your bed to see how it feels to have them there space wise before you completely rule it out!

I think I like elements of the first and second one personally. I like the ceiling lights, I think it emphasizes how tall your ceilings are. I also like the idea of having your chest of drawers and bookshelves along the window wall with the wardrobe where it is. Practically I can see that potentially being an issue with opening the wardrobe doors, but if they slide then it might be okay? Also, in regard to the hanging lamps or sconces, you can get battery powered LED smart bulbs that are rechargeable so you can have lights without electricity running to them. I love all of the ideas though, thanks for sharing and I can’t wait to see what you choose!

I recommend having hooks either over the door or on a wall to not have. The "dumping chair" really easy to see everything

Have you considered the floor to ceiling curtains in either the dark green or one of the accent colours you like? It could bring some more colour and softness/cosiness into the room!

I'm only part way through the video after the first designer but my heart is calling back to the guy who makes shorts about redesigning spaces. I think it would be interesting to swap the bed over to the opposite wall so you don't have to walk around the bed! Something about the flow of energy through the room. But the built in wardrobe may be challenging.

I have bedside lamps coming from the ceiling! They aren't hardwired at the ceiling, they're just plugged into normal outlets and hung from hooks. Keyword you're looking for is a plug in pendant light.

Also it's interesting to have a frame of reference what those services cost. I always thought it was too expensive, but you did the photos and the measurements yourself and you will do the actual redesign yourself as well so it was just a collection of ideas from professionals. Good to know that's an option!

I liked the last design most, but I honestly don't think any really fulfilled the brief. I definitely think you should have a/the full length mirror on the empty window wall and then perhaps get a larger wardrobe instead (maybe removing the need for such a large chest of drawers). Then on the bookshelf wall, do your version of a built in/modular storage unit. Do shelves up to the ceiling, you don't have to have doors for them if you want to use them as bookshelves (books are beautiful let's show them off). Also, please paint the stark white walls, at least a more warm neutral colour to complement the green and make it more cohesive (love the idea of continuing the green on one more wall).

I painted my IKEA Billy bookshelves, as long as you sand and prime first it's fine (and mine were black going to pale green, should be easier with white) - really happy with how they turned out actually, and saved us a lot of money!

I think I remember some interior designer pointing out that if you have floor to ceiling curtains on either side of the window it might feel more spacious as the eye does not know where the window ends, if that makes sense? Continuing the wardrobe with sliding doors sounds smart!

They way I hang my long dresses is to loop the bottom hem back up and stick it through the hanger hole. This way the straps also don't have to carry all the weight of the dress while being stored. :)

"I don't know what words to use to describe interior design, but this is interesting", me everytime i come out of the hairdress with not quite what i had envisionned.

A solution my partner and I have come up with to combat "The Chair" or just throwing things on the floor is to just have one drawer of the chest of drawers be empty by default and act as the dumping ground for that sort of stuff. Requires a little bit of extra space set aside but its been really handy!

I also love extending the green to another wall. Though I have painted half the rooms in my house green, so I clearly have a style.

Great video ! Love interior design so I wanted to share my thoughts 😂: 1. Love the ideo of wall/ceiling sconces for the lights 2. Seems like making the wardrobe bigger on the same wall is the right move, I think it looks gorgeous on the first design 3. I dont think the darker wood looks traditional, there are a lot of different stain options that look very modern and would suit the flat, 4. Also love the idea of having a new built in with drawers and enough space for books on top and on the side in the same wood as the wardrobe, it would look very elevated and intentional, would also look great if extended into the corner! 5. in the blank spot for the bathroom door you could have a large floor length mirror 6. I think you should paint the rest of the wall surface that is not covered by built ins in the same green, it would make the style more cohesive 7. Make the window wall a gallery wall with all your art and decor, pictures etc so you have something interesting to look at siting in bed 8. For the window, whether curtains or blind, you should definitely go larger and with fabric, maybe in a cool pattern/ texture

FYI they sell very good quality vinyl peel and stick paper you could use to put a wood look on top of your dresser if you want to go that direction. I put some on a counter in my kitchen 5 years ago and it's still going strong! That empty space behind the door in the third render - you could add hooks to hang things from! I think you're onto something with the corner being used for storage. It's slightly complicated with considerations for how drawers/cabinets open so they don't interfere with handles on the immediate other side - but they do it in kitchens, so I'm sure it could work!

hi hannah - (commercial) interior design student here! i think your style in general leans a bit more mid century modern and the dark wood is definitely the way to go with jewel tones. have you thought about colour drenching the room? would make it super cosy but maybe not what you're going for. pinterest will be your best friend for comparing different ideas! agree w all three designers that you need wall sconces rather than bedside lamps, you can get ones that plug in too so no need for an electrician. another vote for curtains, and maybe some wallpaper to match your paint / artwork colours behind the bookshelves? depends how maximalist and layered you're aiming for. i might reach out on other socials if i have any bright ideas, and will definitely be followng with interest after how well your living room turned out - good luck!!

I thought a lot of the designer options looked quite hotel-like whereas your inspo images looked a bit more cosy. I think painting the bathroom door and framing the same colour as the wall will make the room look bigger. Have you thought about a box headboard that runs the length of the wall and has space for some books at the side? they are quite easily built and could be made either out of wood or painted a bright colour. The lamps being affixed to the wall would give a lot of space and you can get ones that have pretty cables that hang down so no internal cabling is needed. Adding some lime green to the dark green and lots of pops of orange wold be great, I'm imagining a orange chair after you mentioned having a chair in the room!

Girl drop the dimensions of the room so we can play with it too!! I kinda wanna build it in the sims😅

Go big is my advice. Embrace the whimsical. Green and orange is such a fab colour combo and there's so much opportunity. Totally agree with painting the second wall. And if you do the wardrobe same colour, perhaps orange or wooden accents that match the bed frames wood. Have fun with bedding. I like the bookshelf being on the window wall. Such a great video. One thing I really like from Designer 2 is having the green art on a white wall, and white decor on your green wall. It felt like they were linked to each other in a really satisfying way!

Hi Hannah! Absolutely no expert - but a mirror on the opposite wall of your bed - so that you can see yourself when in bed - is something that you would avoid in (modern) feng shui :) Also a picture frame above the bed is better than a shelf, also in feng shui, because things could fall off of it on to you :) I like the idea of painting more walls green, makes it cozier and looks more intentional in my eyes. If you want a really moody vibe, you could also paint all the walls in that green. And play more with lighting to make it really warm and cozy. Also love dark wood against the green wall instead of white. If you walk through the space a lot between the two doors, you could consider putting the bed where the built in wardrobe currently is. Excited for an update on this room!

As an architect I thought they were all not great, but maybe its just the way the process works, like you send your brief and then you get final images. I feel like a meeting would be way more helpful, like an inital consultation where you talk through the space and then a meeting where the ideas are presented so you can talk through the space together and test options, rather than just being given a design and having to figure out whats going on. If you wanted to test layouts yourself, I saw people in the comments mentioning dear modern, you could cut out pieces of card to scale (1:100 would be 1m=1cm, 1:50 would be 1m=2cm, might be easier a bit bigger) for the different furniture pieces and then try them out, this might be a good way to see if new furniture piece will fit the space well. A lot of these designs seemed to just make the furniture to whatever size would be best but as you know from your living room custom pieces are so expensive. You can also do this digitally on sketchup... you could get a free pro trial for a month but it depends how techy you are.

You can get ceiling pendant lights that control with Bluetooth switches, and you just have to charge them every now and again rather than needing to have them wired in by an electrician! My parents just had some installed for their bedroom side lamps and they work really well!

These 3 designs are too dull for your personality. Where are the patterns and the different colours?

I would suggest painting the currently white walls a warm peachy orange. Maybe a pastel or maybe brighter depending on how light/cosy you want the space to feel. My impression is that you want the space to feel warmer and you are done with the bright white walls and white painted wood. Given the way your window works, I'd say keep having a blind rather than switching to curtains, but you could change the blind. You can get roller blackout blinds in a lot of different colours, maybe pick a colour you like better. If you like the look of curtains you could maybe have decorative curtains either side of the window even if they're not closable.

In terms of circulation you absolutely could consider having the bed against the window wall, since right now it sit awkwardly in the way between the two doors and might not be so great in terms of energy. But that would also imply having to repaint the green wall

It's amazing how much storage you get in a good floor to ceiling wardrobe, so you might not need the chest of drawers. I'd do the wardrobe wall, bed wall and window wall almost exactly like the last option (but with your preferred bed, wallpaper etc) and then for the wall that you enter into, ditch the drawers and put the bookshelf you already have in the corner so theres space for a cot next to it along the wall close to the bed. Maybe a floating shelf from the bookshelf above the cot (if that's safe?) for more book storage and to give a more built-in feel. Love the long curtains and huge mirror. I feel like fewer but bigger items is key

Some thoughts. I'd go for the main parts of the first one, just change the little things you didn't like. That is hang art and curtains on the window wall, and choose another brown coulor for the wardrobe (more red/yellowish tone perhaps).This one suited best your requirements, and it seemed that you liked the furniture better on this option, i.e. the bed. You can always add the colors that are missing in textiles and art. When it comes to your concern about electricity, there are wall lights that have cable chanal that hide the cord and are plugged into the outlet you already have. You can probably DIY something similar for the ceiling lights too, but there I would strongly consider doing it more properly and hier an electrician. I have the same type of windows as you for the opening mechanism. I have hung my blinds on the window frame itself and not the "window roof". Therefore, when I open my window, the blinds follow the window and do not prevent the window from opening. You can also try out the design of the second one by temporarily rearranging the furniture you got to see if you like it on the window wall. Personally, I think one is long and thin while the other feels more spacious.

You could also make one of the sliding panels on the wardrobe a mirror and then you might have space for a little chair or ottoman on the back wall next to the window. Or even a really nice large artwork to look at from bed

Not sure if it's something you'd want but I've been obsessed lately with looking up window vinyls that look like fake stain glass windows so you can have your privacy on the window but still with something beautiful to look at that sparks joy

I’m an interiordesigner myself and advise paintcolours and wallpaper on a daily basis. It’s really funny to see how others approached this room! The first thing I always ask is: what is the sun position? Based off that information, I could already advise on a colour. I would get rid of the stark white ceiling and walls. Based off the sunposition, you could find a good colour. Do you want your white doors to stand out or would you like them to blend in? Otherwise you could choose to paint them the same colour as the walls. Same goes for your closet (which the third designer did, they painted the closet green) I’m excited to see what you end up doing to this room!

I love being able to see in other people's minds how they would decorate & think this is an awesome way to get inspiration! I'm FLOORED that none of them put your bed on the window wall to open up the flow/walkway between hallway and bathroom doors, though. Have you thought of swapping the bed to a different wall? PS. I have hanging lamps in my bedroom... they came with very long cords that I just tacked to the wall and cord-covered, and they plug in. 😊

I work at the paint department of a hardware store, the key to painting ikea furniture is picking the right primer! The brands are different in every country so ask the employees, but there are special primers that make sure the paint will stick. Otherwise a special 'kitchen cabinet lacquer' would probably also work!

And what about in the corner a bookshelf that continues below the window as a bench with a trunk. Not sure how you call that in English that could be a little bench to sit or just drop clothes. And then some art between the bigger built in wardrobe and the window. Hooks behind the bathroom door and the mirror in between the corner bookshelf and the door. Don’t know if you can see it but that what I imagined ;) I would definitely get sliding doors I just made a built in wardrobe in my bedroom and I was super attached to having doors that opened but my dad made me change my mind and i don’t regret it ! It feels like there’s so much more space.

My thoughts: 1. Did you ask them not to move the position of the bed? Or maybe that's just the only place in your room that the bed makes sense, I'm not sure. I just feel like my first thought when redesigning is to see if I can move large furniture pieces like the bed. I was wondering if it was possible or useful at all to flip the bed to a different wall like the window wall. I love playing with online design tools just to move furniture around like that to try and see what works. I was also thinking about the feng shui guy on RU-vid, I don't know if you've seen his shorts, his channel is Dear Modern. He does a lot about ideal furniture placement. 2. I definitely agree that wall sconces seem like the best solution for your bedside lighting. Depending on your budget and how permanent you want them, there are ways to do them where you hire an electrician and wire them into the wall, but there are also rechargeable or battery powered ones that you can just stick to the wall yourself and don't need wires, and ones with wires that you can run along the wall and just cover with little cable covers. So you should have lots of options depending on what you want! 3. I totally agree that having all of your storage on the window wall doesn't seem practical. That was my first thought when I saw the second design was that it was all too cramped close to the bed. But moving your bookshelves to the window wall or getting a new built in solution for the bathroom side of the window wall sounds great! 4. I love the idea of a bigger built-in painted the same color as the wall but with some texture. I think a wooden fluted texture could be so cool.

An idea for the bookshelf situation. In my living room i installed a 'floating' shelf a bookheight down from the ceiling. It runs all the way across the room and the books are colourcoded so it looks like art 🥰

You can get wall sconces mounted by an electrician for a sleek look, but you can also just find ones you mount on the wall and that has a cord running down the wall to an outlet. Something like the Sinnerlig wall lamp from Ikea could be nice on the teal wall!

Fun thought - if you like the way the window is framed in option 2, you can do fake stained glass frosted film to make it seem like art instead of just foggy ! That's the one I like the use of space with best

Personally I certainly wouldn't be in favour of shortening the effective room by filling the entire window wall with storage. I'd get fed up of shuffling past the foot of the bed. Maybe two corner units to use _some_ of the space without compressing _all_ of it. The white recess for the door in Design 3 could be painted to match the green wall or the brown wood, so it doesn't stand out as much. Maybe even put some flat art there (above doorhandle height, since that'd hit it) so it's nicer with the door closed.

You could put your bed in the wall that has the bookcase, its smaller so its just for sleeping; nice curtains and bookshelf next to it for exampleeeeee

I never comment on videos but have so many ideas, this is so up my ally!! 😂 1. You can buy battery bulbs so you don't have to get an electrician in to put ceiling or wall lights, you can just fix them to the wall/ceiling and you the battery/USB charging lightbulbs which are controlled with a switch. 2. Blinds 2 go do these built in blinds which clip into the window so it doesn't matter how the window opens. My parents have them on french doors are they are great, you can also get black out. 3. Definitely go for a sliding door on the wardrobe it will save so much space, and recommend extending the current wardrobe area incase there isn't anything behind! 4. I think your room would look great in a colour drench, taking the green onto all walls and the ceiling, then with bright art and mirrors to lighten the space. I think a walnut wood would look amazing. Agree that you should stick with the style of the property but maybe a scandi or mid century style pieces would have a modern edge 😊

Regarding the second design proposal: you could use a cupboard with sliding doors, then you don’t have to worry about having enough room to open the doors. Also sliding doors (for example at ikea) come in lots of nice colors ;)

You don't even need a practical reason not to like the current wardrobe, other than it being fugly :D Am also glad you pointed out not liking the wood the first designer chose because I think it's only a slightly elevated version of the current look. And I don't think the wicker would be more comfortable than wood at all (it's pretty though) The second version though sharing your space concerns I really like the around the window thing and I think you could keep the chest of drawers and just choose a different wardrobe and definitely a different bookshelf (Kallax is fine but I think you're over it and it's what screams Ikea boxyness the loudest imo and also it's not the most space efficient when it comes to bookshelves). The bookshelf over the bed I think is silly/unnecessary/would make me paranoid, but you could just swap it back with the painting. On the topic of wall lights: there are definitely options that are not hardwired into the wall and instead just plugged in regularly (with different degrees of sleakness) but still mounted on the wall the third design is absolutely horrible (it's not mature and adult, it's just sad), but I'm glad it informed you of the option to install curtailns, definitely go for that! :D

You can always get a plug in sconce for your above nightstands if you like the idea of not having them on the nightstands. I think the third design is more well thought out but doesn't leave you a lot of space to move. Definitely think about sliding wardrobe doors but I would put them on the wall your bed is now and flip your bed to the other wall. I would also take the same greenish paint color you have and put it on the opposite wall with a big stripe along the ceiling to connect in. (Two ways to do that where the whole ceiling and both walls are fully painted or so it frames your bed and the wardrobes which is what I would do). Bookcases would go where the wardrobe is currently (might even save having to redo the floor) and crib/cot would probably fit along the wall where the dresser currently is.

I have so many thoughts on what I would do. This is exactly the thing I like to think about. I would do the wardrobes where they are in the second design except put sliding doors on so it doesn’t take up too much floor space (sliding mirror doors will be convenient for trying outfits and large mirrors make the room feel bigger). Put some book shelves under the window. Then on the right hand side put chest of drawers with lots of wall shelves above (so the drawers open more into the empty space rather than open in to the end of the bed. It will give you plenty of space by both doors so the room should still feel spacious enough. Other placements of the furniture mean putting stuff on the other two walls like you currently have which narrows the space between the furniture and the side of your bed which just doesn’t seem practical with a larger bed and space for a baby to sleep at the side. I would pick medium to light wood for the furniture (but not too orangey of an wood because you’ll have orange elsewhere and it will look wrong). So it’s not just basic white but it’s not too dark (dark wood with the dark green would be too dark overall I think and make the room feel closed in and small). And to fit the modernness of the flat, I would do clean lines in the furniture (not lots of squirls and carved bits- kinda boxy looking but with curved corners so it’s not too ikea. I’m thinking like the hip hop range from bensons for beds but they don’t do the shelving and sliding door wardrobes in that range). And I would do the bed frame in a matching wood to the other furniture. Leave the green wall as it is but paint the other walls in a very light orange (like a paler version of the colour of that bed throw from design 3). Bedside lights out the walls are a pain to wire in to the wall. But there are battery operated ones, or ones that you just plug in and the wire is visible to the plug. Also, do that little shelf idea (lamps on that if you don’t like not-wired-in wall lamps) and use the shelf as an extension of your bedside table (great for your current books and a box of tissues and anything that needs to be out if reach of small hands). A strip of LEDS under the edge of the shelf would look good as well. In my opinion, lamps in a bedroom must be dimmable so it can be super dim when you’re half asleep so that is also a consideration when looking for lamps that don’t get wired into the wall. I like the big curtains but if you put book shelves underneath, it wouldn’t look right. So I would go with roman blinds that are oversized (like how your current blinds fit) in a deep orange (like the bedthrow colour from design 3). Then put your big picture that is currently behind the bed on the wall by the bathroom (like design 2) and on the wall opposite (so by the entry door) put a few smaller pictures clustered together and a row of coat hooks with coat hangers on- this is where stuff you’ve worn but are wearing again clothes can go without just being dumped on the floor). Once you have all that in, I’d consider putting a slim storage ottoman on the wall near the bathroom but I’m not sure if that would make things too crowded so I’d wait til the end to decide whether to add that. And I’d do the bedding like it is in design 3.

Oooo love this video, I think my fave was the second one for vibes but possibly with a built in like your living room one! So can be fully customisable.

wait wait wait!!!! hold the door, I just learned that a king size bed in the UK is only 150cm x 200cm!!! WHAT!!!!!? That's 10 cm smaller than a QUEEN size here in France, hahahhahahahahah, for reference here in France, a single is like 80/90x190, a full or larger single I guess is 90x200, a double is 140x200, a queen is 160x200, a king is 180x200, and a super king is 200x200, we also have another one that I really hate if you have 2 people but it's only older sizes is 140x190, really really hate that size, lol

Love the idea someone else in the comments pointed out fo doing floating bookshelves along the wall with the window so that you don’t need as much ‘bulky’ storage at either side and can then really utilise those spaces with one less consideration and that might help with having less along the wall where the cot will be

I would love to give you some ideas after the feedback you gave during the video (for free of course) I just need some dimensions. 🎉❤ But in the meantime, you could consider some stained glass type privacy film for your window, there are some Amazon sconces that don't need electrical wiring just some periodical charging

I think the first designer had some super practical suggestions! Switching out the built-in wardrobe for a bigger one in the same location should stop you from dealing with the potential issues of missing carpet and skirting board. The combined drawer/bookshelf unit on the other side seems like a pretty neat solution to combining your chest of drawers and bookshelves into a smaller footprint - and while you say you wouldn't need the vanity section, this would probably make up for some of the laying space you would lose from getting rid of the chest of drawers. I think in your situation of being in a flat, wall-mounted bedside lamps are probably more practical than the ceiling-hung ones - and I'm fairly sure you get wall-mounted lights that you can just plug into a socket with the cable being in the room, rather than in the wall. I think the only thing that first design was missing was what to do with the window wall, and I think you could take inspiration from the final design and put your large mirror there, some of your existing art pieces, and maybe some curtains to make the place feel more cosy, and that would make it much nicer to look at! I didn't like how the second design put all of the storage on the window wall. It seems like with the shape of your room, that there is less space at the end of your bed, and so that will make the space feel very tight there, and also possibly feel very long in the other direction. With 2-3 of you in there, you definitely want to keep the space to get around the end bed open. And while you want to move away from white Ikea furniture, if you're wanting to stick to a budget, its probably still worth taking a look at what you can do with the likes of Ikea's Pax wardrobe range, because there are dark wood options and a ridiculous amount of customisation available, and they can look pretty much built-in. Best of luck with your redecoration - I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it!

They make plug-in wall-mounted sconces! That’s what I used in my bedroom. More nightstand space and no need to hire an electrician. There are some really affordable options, too! If I were trying to “work with what I have” in this room, I think I would say “Okay, one not-super-huge window and a darker green wall that I love - I’m going to lean into dark and cozy.” I think I would paint the entire room that green - including doors, skirting, and ceiling - to play up coziness and eliminate the feeling of boxiness through immersive color. Then all the bright, whimsical art and decor would really pop, but walnut tones you’re drawn to for the furniture and the wardrobe would also look right at home. I would also aim to keep costs lower by just taking out the wardrobe you dislike and replacing it with a bigger one in the same place that will meet your needs if you got rid of the chest of drawers. You could move the books so they’re on the right of the window as you face it (swap out the shelves to match the wood tones you’re going for), do curtains for some texture and drama (and so you can still use your window), and put a big wall-mounted mirror on the wall to the left of the window to fill out that wall space and serve its natural function where it might be most useful - right next to your clothes. If you want you could do a little bench under the window for reading(/pile-making), too. On the wall where you currently have your books and chest of drawers, I think I would do nothing but art, so you have plenty of room to navigate around the cot if that’s the side of the bed the baby will be on. I feel like that would leave plenty of floor space, and balance the goal of a big visual change/some functional solutions with the goal of keeping the project lower cost and not too much work to execute. You wouldn’t need to hire any professionals (except maybe someone to do the wardrobe if you are trying to avoid flatpack) and you would only need to buy more paint, some curtains and rod, the new wardrobe, a new bookcase situation, your new bed and bed frame, and the plug-in sconces. Not a tiny project, but not huge, and all or nearly all could be done yourselves!

Regarding the ceiling and wall mounted light fixtures: If you don't want cords showing, you would need to have electrical boxes installed. Otherwise, you could buy fixtures with cords or even add cords to fixtures designed to be hardwired. They make cord covers that give a more "tidy" look and they can even be painted to match your walls.

We have heavy sliding doors and turns out, they're always open and clothes are just on display. It's made me hate sliding doors. And I can't just take one piece from one side and easily get another one. I have to move the two heavy sliding doors to the other side to get more stuff. And in the end, I don't get stuff from the other side, 'cause it's just not practical. One side is for hanging up clothes, the other is for shelves. So we always have our shelves on display, and we don't use stuff that is hung up. It is indeed stuff that we wouldn't use necessarily all the time, but considering my partner has some sort of ADHD "don't remember stuff exists if i don't see it", she's forgotten about a lot of her clothes when she hangs it. All that to say, sliding doors are the bane of my existence and I don't recommend it haha

I really like the curtains, agree with having sliding doors on the wardrobe. Even though you have a carpet you may want to consider a rug to zone off the bed! And yeah some kind of "dumping chair" or even just a section in the wardrobe for things that would otherwise land on the floor is probably wise I also really like those pendant lights in particular, but yeah like someone else said you can totally get plug in sconces. Cover the cords and paint the covers like the wall 😉

Put hooks on a wall for dumping, that way you get it off the floor and it's a more comfortable height when collecting laundry/tidying up. And it doesn't steal floorspace.

I think I like the last design best but there’s elements of all that could be nice! It would of course be more cost effective etc to use the pieces you already have, and maybe moving the bookshelves to the window wall would make it feel new again. Could you even stack them along that wall horizontally on top of each other under the window? And then that could become a spot like a “Dumping Chair”? Or would it come up too high? 🧐 I think bigger built in wardrobe + continuing the paint is excellent and if you could makeshift a system that uses curtains instead of sliding doors you could enjoy the coziness of curtains AND not have to worry about finding door panels that match/compliment the paint colour ANDDDD if you wanted a different vibe or colour ever or pattern (like wallpaper) you could just switch out curtains instead of worry about new doors

I would recommend bottom-up blinds for the window, you can cover only the bottom part and it looks much better than the sticker 😂 also, I think it might go well with curtains if you choose to have them.

Food for thought: I had limited space for books so I had some shelf’s custom built on one wall. They are floating shelves but they are just slightly larger than a book. So, they are not as deep, less bulkier, fit tons of books and take a lot less space then a standard bookshelf. And I still think you should make a wall of booka on yoir entryway 😂😂 sorry if Im repeating myself but I envy the amount of apace you have on your hallway 😂

Agreed about extending the paint onto the wardrobe wall. I think both doors should be that colour too, especially if you want to move away from the white furniture, they feel a bit jarring. Also if you didn't want to wire in the lights above bedside tables, you can get little battery-powered or rechargeable puck lights to pop in instead of bulbs :)

What a fun experiment! I like the first and second ones most, maybe bits from the third. The first two definitely feel more cozy. Wall sconces seem the way to go for more space on the bedside tables. I like the idea of extending the built in wardrobe further but keep it where it is. Maybe more built ins on the other side (or corner of window wall) for dresser and bookshelves to complement the built in wardrobe. Could hire the same company who did the living room ones?

I have the same kind of blinds/window situation. If you do want to add curtains look for french curtain rods. The rod base is an angle so it comes off the wall to clear the blinds casing.

I wonder if having your bed under the window would be better for walking space? That way a future cot wouldn't be in the pathway to get to the bathroom?

I really enjoy this renovation or redecorating content :) I also think about personalizing my bedroom and I have for a long time had the idea of a very discreet build in wardrobe (as in “the same color as the wall”) and screwing those big knobs-like wall hangers (they are often made of dark wood) on them as if it was a place to hang jackets. This could be a way to make the wardrobe less bland and also create a hanging place for used clothes (or just frequently used jackets) so Maxine that’s an idea for you :) Anyway, I’m really exited to see how the room turned out!

I love that green colour, so I'm so glad you're keeping it! I also liked your idea of carrying the colour on to the second wall. In regards to the lights over the bedside tables the easiest way to do it would be to use rechargeable bulbs, it would mean you wouldn't need an electrician. Love the wardrobe wall also being teal and extending the wardrobe with sliding doors to maximise storage but reducing floor space. You can get battery/rechargeable wall lights or wall lights where the wire is on the outside of the wall. Love the dark wood too and the curtains. I think corner floor to ceiling built in storage on the bookshelf wall would be a great idea to allow cot space and utilising space for books! If you can’t see out of the window, consider putting the bed on the window wall so you can look at the teal wall where pictures and items can be hung. It would reduce all the walking around the bed for sure but may be tricky to find places for storage. Thoroughly enjoyed this video, can’t wait to see what happens next

Ohh this is inspiring me for my own bedroom makeover. Some ideas I had while watching: 1) Built in wardrobe but occupying the entire wall it is currently in, including storage above the door, with sliding doors and in the same dark green as the wall, with nice handles. 2) obviously ceiling to floor curtains in a warm yellow or orange. I think that fun colors in long curtains do a lot for a place. Also the big bookshelf can go beside the window towards the right corner, and the big mirror to the left of the window, that way it makes that wall more interesting to look at but it isn't overwhelming. 3) I liked the big painting on your wall and the shelf above the bed, makes the colors of the room more cohesive. With no furniture on that wall you'll definitely have space for the cot. OR you could also move the bed to that wall, yes the cot would be between the window wall and your bed (we did that and it worked well for us, that cot was going nowhere 😂), and it would leave a straight path between the bedroom door and bathroom

Try this for size! . Remove bookshelves and chest of drawers .move your bed so that the headboard is centred on the window and add bedside tables . Build a shelf all the way along your green wall about 40cm below the ceiling for your books . Extend wardrobe and remove doors . Add a shallow wardrobe facing the original one with a small walkway between...you now have a walkin wardrobe that can be fully customised with drawers, long hanging space etc! Add your mirror at the end. Win win...better fengshui, clear access to the loo, cosy uncluttered bedroom space, oodles of concealed storage

might be too late, but I like 2 the best, do you need a 2metre long bed? maybe 1.90 will work giving you some extra space. but I like the reuse of the chest of drawers that would be a baby changing station and the bookcases. for the window there's mirrored foil that allow you to look out but noone can look in, it's better that that frosted thing as it would look seemless once you cover the whole window in mirror foil not sure if that's what you call it, nr2 leaved you the most space for the baby bed, 3 was useless in that way. is the wall with the bookcases wide enough for the kinsgize bed? and or would you be opposed to turn the bed to the window wall, makes the walk path easier and will feel less pokey

I think to make the window wall more interesting you could have a corner built-in wardrobe go all the way from the thermostat, to the corner of the room, around it, and near the window (with sliding doors to avoid them bumping into each other). This would maximise storage space and I think it’d tie the two walls together. Under the window I’d put a bench to put stuff on it when you want to avoid the floor situation, and I’d put the bookshelf on the right side of the window. Then the wall in front of the bathroom door should be free of furniture IMO to avoid that weird door opening gap and to allow to put a cot there. You could have shelves and a full length mirror to still make it useful! (Disclaimer: not an interior designer)

You can install roman shades in Windows like yours, I have them. They start under the vent (just above the glass). Not every company does it, but this solution is def available if you like it. I have a similar setup of roman shades+sheer curtains in my living room and can recommend it

The first one seems like the best option for layout and furniture placement and the third seems the best option for color and fabric based on the needs you shared. The second seemed most off to me. Look forward to seeing how the room ends up.

This is so interesting! I'm quite surprised that the designers strayed so far from your moodboard...and none of them suggested doing anything with the ceiling! I'd paint the ceiling the same colour as the green wall. Love the curtains in the third option, it looks chic.

I tend to not like the way "mid century modern" wood or phaux wood that looks quite cheap or dead.I would say probably not into the mid-century at all unless you're going into the bright abstract rather than the dull wood.I would prefer the vibe you have going with dutch colonial/Caribbean style - especially as I like the white furniture even if it could be upgraded,but if it were dark then something with a richness or glow to it in classical furniture. Lots of fun ,quirky vacation elements but with some permanency and careful craftsmanship of living there. May I suggest,Bahamas style wicker (from the 80's) ,keep the painting behind your bed where it is,night lamps on the wall from #2 , wardrobe that blends in from #3. Scenery mural wall on window side, curtains that have waterfall qualities or that have a rod that comes around the blinds (I think they're for blackout curtains? They jut out from the wall.Sorry, I can't remember the name.). A reading window seat , maybe,a very low one for comfort and light rather than window view (maybe a set of baskets underneath for laundry/not fully clean clothes? . Bookshelf on window wall next to wardrobe. Build mirror doors over it? Bathroom door side,have a valet (furniture rack for hanging clothes ) with a shelf over top that "models" your boob etc. in a really fun design. Possibly the poof chair in the corner? Between window seat and valet. A corner table /breakfast nook,or shoe rack shelf could go over the poof.... 🌴🌺🏝️🌀☀️🐦🐠🍊🍈🍍🌶️🍹⚓🛥️👙👒🌂 I don't know why,but I feel like king sized futons always look larger than spring mattresses.

I haven't finished the video (am at 23:40), but instinctively: take design number 1, put the bed from design number 2, and then the curtains (but not the Roman blinds - that's the 'scrunchy' blinds) from design number 3 (though choose more individual curtains than beige). Et voila - you have the room. Sort of. Individual criticism: Design Nr 1. Probably the most logical, and easiest to play with. Its only major issue is the window wall, which you can easily wallpaper or (what I instantly thought of, long before you revealed design nr 3) - curtains. Also, with those: the curtain rod should go on the wall over the window, and either could continue over the whole wall, or be just limited, and combined with artworks (as in nr 3). Design Nr 2: I did not like it at all. First, it looked like a train carriage or a room in a B&B (you know, when the owners have an awkward room, but still make a bedroom out of it). I also instantly questioned the logic of putting the bookcases on the right, and the wardrobes on the left. The latter are bulkier, and should go visually further away; they would have made more sense on the right of the window. The empty wall on the right... Easily solvable by adding some art, or a large textile. When I was young, I had a large African weave on the wall, looked a bit like a very primitive tapestry, the room was almost colonial in vibe. It was very cool. Design Nr 3: Professional. Also, exactly why I tend to avoid 'professional' designers. There is zero individuality, it was almost like a catalogue pic somewhere (and by 'somewhere' I do not mean Architectural Digest). You know, sort of 'textbook', if you are catching my drift. The fact that this is the only one who did not leave a wall empty is good, but then, the fiddling with the items you have (like the sign) is peculiar. Still, if you do like it, the space for the bathroom door is easily 'fillable' by either wallpaper, or even cork tiles of some sort.

Ooh, ok, solicited advice time! 😁 /rubs hands/ 1) Yes to using the space around the window, either by placing the chest of drawers under it (with the bookshelves in the corner) or with a really thin, flowy floor-to-ceiling curtains in the same yellow as the pillow on your bed. Chest of drawers would be good for getting natural light when you get ready in the mornings, but since you don't really wear makeup anymore, that's not *as* important, and the chest may reduce the walkable space, whereas the bright lemony curtains would really cheer the room up while not impeding functionality at all. 2) Gotta narrow down the goals for this room a little bit. The room is small and doesn't get very much natural light, so you have to think about priorities: do you want the room to look bright and cheery, or does it not bother you if it feels a bit dark or claustrophobic, like in these redesigns? People generally think more storage means more claustrophobia, but that doesn't necessarily have to be the case. You can get really shallow cabinets (like 6 inches) that can hold a surprising volume of things while not affecting the available space almost at all. You can make the bed go a LOT higher without making it difficult to get into, and even a slight adjustment in height can can mean substantially more storage space underneath. (Which you can either make into some kind of decor element -- funky color, wooden details, place, etc. -- or just cover with extra large bedding in everyday use.) The corners are also more tolerant of ceiling-high furniture than the middle of the wall, though, again, you can get away with a lot more if the depth is shallow or the color does not contrast with the surroundings. (Like, I LOVE that green-wardrobe idea, it literally *melts* into the wall, that's a fucking *fantastic* way to make the space feel bigger, the only drawback being that it's probably not an easy color to change if you ever get tired of the green.) (I also love how it looks like the wardrobe doors look like they're maybe made of fabric rather than wood; that's another way to make the object feel lighter.) Also, keep in mind where you get the most sunight in the room. My impresion has been that it might be where your chest of drawers is right now, so if you want to maximize the natural light, it would be ideal for that spot to contain something similarly light and bright so it can reflect more of the natural right all over the room. (This can make a /really/ big difference in rooms with little natural light. In extreme cases, a strategically placed matte mirror -- or even just a regular mirror -- can also change the entire feeling of the room.) 3) In a similar vein, do you actually like the dark wood in furniture, or are you just tired of the white? You can get a lot of mileage out of a few dark accents scattered around the room (like the bed in #2, which has rails rather than a solid block, and maybe a detail on the lamps or a frame on the wall, etc.), but my impression of your general tastes is more "bright! lively! excited about going on adventures!" and the dark furniture rooms just Do Not match that mood. You can ignore the following paragraphs if my impression is wrong or you want the bedroom in particular to be less stimulating than, say, the living room. But if you *are* just tired of the white, then there's lots of ways to make the color palette more interesting without making it gloomy. First off, with this shade of green, high-value, medium-to-medium-high saturation colors are your friends. (In the HSL system, S=max, L=60-75 on my monitor OR 70-85 on my phone because Conveying Colors Digitally Is A Nightmare.) Hue-wise, you can definitely stick to yellows, oranges, and pastel pinks, though personally I also love this shade of green with a nice baby blue or a violety lilacy kinda thing. Metallic/chromey colors are also your friends for accents, though they should be medium-high value and not super saturated. Green is your One Dark, though (and it's very bright and stimulating as far as Darks go, which is great), so you should avoid mixing it with Super Saturated colors or other darks. If you specifically want more autumny colors than bright ones, then I'd advise making them noticeably lighter and less saturated than the green, otherwise it will clash. (And always remember that dusty colors are calmer but also visually heavier than their brighter/pastel counterparts.) Likewise, if you really like wooden textures and you want more than just a few accents of wood, may I suggest light wood? Something like birch or ash, maybe a bit darker. I don't really know much about wood terminology, but my guidelines would be medium-to-medium-high value and medium-low-to-medium saturation for woods, with hues probably being yellowish or pinky. I don't think the super saturated yellow-orangey woods that used to be so common would look good in this room, and knowing you, the super desaturated ones are also probably a no go. Or if you *do* really want the darker wood, then neither of the options presented by these designers are good choices in my opinion; #1 gets overwhelmed by the green and would need to be slightly darker and slightly more saturated in order to be balanced, whereas #3 is encroaching on the green's visual territory and would need to be slightly less saturated and either darker or lighter to be in balance. (It also looks like the wrong hue for the green, but I can't put my finger on whether it's too yellow-greenish or too reddish. Very strange not to be able to lol.) Again, I really recommend restraining dark and/or saturated elements to small objects with relatively slim designs, and reserving the big areas for lighter and brighter colours. You can also mix the darker and lighter woods! Don't feel as if you have to stick to the same supplier or tone for everything; in fact, it's better to make every single wooden element out of a different material so that they look distinct but harmonious, rather than getting everything completely uniform and then realizing you need one more thing, but you can't get it to match perfectly and now it's the odd man out. As long as everything adheres to the same principles of harmony (and anchors to at least one or two similarly-colored items, scattered around the room rather than all together in one spot), you can have all kinds of variety regarding tones and textures and saturations! Practically infinite, actually! 4) Proper wall/ceiling lamp stuff *would* probably be complicated, but I think you can get fake wall lamps now, where you *do* screw them into the wall, but they still have a wire that you can plug into a regular outlet. Definitely worth exploring. I'd say the nightstands don't have to be so wide. I'd rather make them higher and narrower than take up as much walking space as in all three of these designs. Even as little as an inch or two makes a BIG difference when you're walking by it all the time. Also, if you get a wooden bed but none of the rest of the big furniture is wooden, I'd advise against matching the nightstands to the bed, otherwise it creates the impression of "oh, this is the Wooden zone" and then the rest of the room is completely different. Again, better to connect the similar visual elements from all over the room rather than having them all be in one place. 5), Other than that, yeah, I think the best layout for you is probably the wardrobe in the same place that it was, and either a) the chest of drawers under the window and bookshelves in the corner, with maybe a big mirror in between the wardrobe and the drawers, or b) a custom piece of furniture in the corner/along the other wall, with a bunch of decorations (including the sunny curtains) along the window wall, with maybe a few really shallow cabinets and perhaps the big mirror as well. Also, I think you could get a lot of mileage out of replacing the drawer handles with something funky and colorful (the first thought that came to mind was like a bright orange laser-cut plastic Nickelodeon splash lmao, but it doesn't have to be quite /that/ out there.) TL;DR: I'm a big fan of what you did with the living room, and I think similar kinds of aesthetic principles would work really well in the bedroom if you want them to! I'm excited to see what you do with the space (though visually, I also really love it as is), and as always, thank you for giving me the opportunity to write a really long comment about my thoughts on design, and sorry for making it quite *so* long. 😅😂

the first designer REALLY should have put nice lon curtains on either side of the window in a color from your colour scheme. it woul have made the pics SO MUCH BETTERA

I like the dark green pertrol color on your wall too - gives it a homey feeling, like a dark forest.❤ Darker wood compliments that very well - as long as it's not overwhelming Sliding doors on the closet is space saving and looks great - you could even include a mirror door and save further wall space this way. I did like the floor plan of the second design the best - but agree you won't get everything on that wall. But maybe you could put a really narrow sideboard under the window - and bookshelves in the right corner? Which should still leave you with room for a small cot. Or maybe one on rolls? That would leave you open where to put, when not in use. As you don't have plants or a nice view outside that window - why don't you paint a nice landscape on that wall? Something relaxing and inspiring 🏞️🤗

Flip the bed to the window wall? That way you dont have to walk around the bed (circulation takes all the space)....probably have to change electric sockets etc. @DearModern

A super cheap and cute solution for the laundry floor/chair situation is the Ikea Fladis Basket. We have two beside our bed where PJ's or day laundry go in. It's handy because you don't have to fold anything or really pay any attention to it, other than throw your stuff right in there, but the room still looks organised and nice. Grand solution for busy people (or ones with ADHD, lol). It's much cheaper than a pouf but you don't have to look at your mess like with a stupid chair.

I loved the second design!! Alll the things on the wall facing the bed! It appeals to me having all my clothes in the same area of the bedroom so I don't have to wander when I'm rushing (or maybe it's just laziness!).

The designs don’t feel particularly whimsical or fun. Don’t get me wrong they are nice but I think more color would definitely make the space more unique. Like maybe a mustard yellow built in closet? Or a colorful rug that brings in some orange, yellows etc. Curtains add a lot of warmth and cozy factor. I know you said no ikea but their pax system closets are actually very practical and customizable.

I think you'd love option 2 with some little tweaks: 1) no shelf over the bed, stick with the art you already have 2) paint the two walls touching your current green wall the same green instead of leaving them white. You could be so bold to even paint the back of the doors. This in combination with the white window wall would add a lot of depth to the space. 3) I think the white window wall will keep your room from feeling toooo dark, but a couple things you can do - consider using that same green paint in the back of each cubby of the bookshelf if you feel its tooo much white, or even paint that whole wall green too as it will only result in a little 'pop' where there isn't furniture. Also consider a rattan roman shade or bamboo blind over the window for more warmth. 4) bedframe/nightstands/lamps in option 2 are great but the bedding ain't it. The bedspread in option 3 seems way more up your alley. swapping to that or something similar/on the darker side will give you that moodiness you're looking for!

Not a designer at all, just some thoughts whilst watching: For the window wall: for the window wall, maybe a foto collage (that's on top of the drawers right now) and a half length dark green/orange curtain? Or some wooden shelfs that match the wood of the bed and/or wardrobes. Or put the bookshelfs on the right side like design 2 and then some pictures on the left? Based on design 2: Skip the weird roof storage bit above the door (to make the wall look les door-shaped), and make the build-in storage more square shaped. Based on design 3: continue the green paint, switch the wardrobe for dark brown wood?

I wonder if the style of the designers might have ben the problem. They have all made designs that are very modern, but your inspo looks more traditional to me. I even see some boho and country influences. Seems to me the designers did it in their style, but not one of them is exactly what I would envision based on the pictures. Like, I make traditional, oriental, farmhouse, etc. designs and I hate the ceiling lights. Like... I don't get that trend, it makes the room look like a shopping mall :D Maybe try finding someone who makes designs in your style.

Honestly all those books is kind of weird in a bedroom. At least it is in America. Do you truly plan on re-reading all those books? If not I would say donate them. Purge the books. Gain all that space for things you truly want and need.

Metal detailing feels like it belongs either: in a minimalist aesthetic as the *only* accent to break up the blank expanse of white, or in a very blinged up more colourful aesthetic. As soon as you're introducing colour/patterns the metal detailing no longer serves its purpose as an accent. I don't feel like metal detailing feels adult/mature so much as it does that sort of... bland default 'clean' or 'sleek' look that lacks personality but does help sell properties. A very tidy and empty look. Anyway all that's to say I think drop the metal detailing if it doesn't speak to you and you're bringing colour in/not having that wall of white furniture any more. And through this video I kept picturing a bright but simple orangey-yellow and white patterned wallpaper covering one of the white walls. I'm no designer, it might not work at all, but that'd be a way to brighten up the space while still being able to add darker furniture. Also there is dark wood IKEA furniture, so I feel like new build flats work with dark wood if its in a simple IKEA-like style.

I thought all of them hade some aspects that were great, but not perfect. I would (not saying that my ideas would be perfect either) change place of the bookshelf and the wardrobe. That makes room for a bigger wardrobe and also makes the first picture you see when you enter the room a bit less busy. Don't get me wrong, I love to have books on display, but sometimes, with the different colors and sizes and just the amount of them, it can feel a bit much, which is maybe not what you want in a bedroom. So i would either use the extra wardrobe space for clothes, or I would use it as hidden book-storage for some of the books. On the other wall, I would have a half -chest of drawers under a half-bookcase. To get some books and stuff on display, but also have more hidden storage. And I would either extend the color to all the walls or put up curtains in a similar color to the wall (the green one). And maybe black out curtains, so you don't need the blinds😊 I did love all the beds though and the overhanging lights😊

ALSO, I am tall and only wear dresses so FEEL you on that one. Our wardrobe is half fill length, half double, as the husband doesn't need long hanging, we share that between us. Our whole unit os only 2m wide and it is heaps of space and includes a vertical set of cubbies which have baskets in them for undies, socks, t shirts, scarves. We bought the cheapest modular set in the shop, it was only about $120 (60 pounds) compared with hundreds. And CURTAins OMG you love moody. Get some more fabrics in there

If you are worried about the layout, move furniture around, the only built in piece is the wardrobe. You could definitely try to swop the bed and the chest of drawers and bookshelf, and even try designer #2 idea of having the chest of drawers under the window. I have to be honest, I don't like your blinds, a fabric Roman blind would look much nicer or ceiling to floor curtains. If you go to a specialist curtain store they have so many clever and beautiful solutions for tricky windows, you could get block out fabric if you like to sleep in a dark room. Good luck with the renovation/redesign,i hope that you end up with a bedroom that works well for you and that you love 😊
