pro tip for fishing channels: when ever the title says hooked into, they dont actually catch the fish. good video though edit: Nicks videos are allways worth watching. I just commented something I noticed.

@@sewage111 well it depends if he has circle hooks. They work by just letting the fish take it. I think he may need to use braid or a rod with a stronger backbone, sometimes the floppy rods give the fish all the power and the hook can get deep in there

King of loose drag and weak hook sets. All honesty love your videos and the spots you fish. Always have the potential to hook into an absolute monster start fishing like it! Heavy rods, tight drags.

If you set too hard with circle hooks you're risking just yanking the bait out of their mouth if the fish is facing towards you, better to give a slow pull around with heavy drag and strong line and just let the hook do the work. Corner of the mouth every time

Please just once try so e of these spots with a fly rod , sinking line and big leech patterns and such . I fly fish a lot and would love to see how it works there . Northern British Columbia Canada here .

i find with larger circle hooks you need to set the hook 2-3 times, I was losing lots of fish when doing single sweeping hooksets versus 2-3 quick hooksets, bigger hooks need a little extra oomph to get it past the barb

I hate to be that person who tries to tell someone else how to fish, but I am only making the suggestion to maybe slow it down a bit when you first hook into something and try not to get overexcited and reel super fast or hoss them in. Can definitely play a part in losing fish from my experience. Other than that, totally love your content and this channel. One of my faves, for sure.

Little tip, if you're using bigger baits, either try running a double hook rig or give the fish a longer amount of time to fully get it in its mouth, i wanna say that was atleast 70% of the reason you're missing these nice fish, but all in all I enjoy your video's a bunch & keep at it brother you'll get a monster monster sooner or later!

Nick, I fished a hot (catfish) private pond near Grafton over the weekend (I'm 618 too; like 15 minutes from you). Owner agreed to sell day passes when house isn't rented. If you're interested, I'll give you my contact info. The cats were hitting everything I dropped in the water (tiny swirl-tail crappie jig included, which I've never seen cats eat, but landed the biggest on night crawlers, and hooked an even bigger one on raw hot dog). We only had 2-pound line (thought we were Crappie fishing), so the biggest I landed was between 5 and 10 (Im not good at judging fish weight, but took pics, if you wanna see); but we got snapped off 10 other times (the last time was after a 15-minute battle, maybe longer, which was exhausting). I'll cover your day-pass cost if I can go w you, and get some pointers. I can also introduce you to owner, if you wanna film there. They have a little boat there for guests too, but I did fine on shore as well. Again, lmk if that sounds appealing, and we'll figure something out. I know spillways are your niche, but you have some lake/pond vids too, so I figured I'd throw this out there.
