Get the tub here!→collabs.shop/s... And water chiller here!→collabs.shop/g... I did a 30 day ice bath challenge to see how a cold plunge habit transforms me. Through the whole month I talk through all the benefits (and possible drawbacks!) of cold exposure. I started as a cold tub beginner and revved up my metabolism, improved my circulation, boosted my mood and many more surprising effects on this journey. Will I lose weight? Will I get stronger? Will I recover faster? I'm just hoping I can survive the challenge.

In Finland quite a few people do winter bathing (essentially, cut a hole in the ice and hop in), however you generally go into a sauna afterwards to heat back up.

As someone who was recently told by my dentist that I unbeknownst clench my jaw while I sleep, I would definitely be interested in a video about the subject.

I used to clench my teeth while awake and cracking my teeth! After I started taking Zoloft I no longer do that.

That was impressive to say the least. I am not an expert, but the hand challenges sound a bit like Raynaud's Syndrome which causes blood vessels in the hands to constrict and cause numbness - even when it is just cold outside.

I’m in Canada, and I have a winter dog, so we go out every day rain or shine, and it hits -50 C, like it’s fricken cold. The beginning of winter kind of hurts, like the air hurts and it rips through your jacket and it just sucks to go outside at like 0 C. At -10 there definitely is a mindset shift and you remember how winter mode works, and it totally stops hurting your face and hands. You get a feel for how much cold your skin can be exposed to before it actually starts to be damaged, and then you can handle snow and stuff in your bare hands and it’s totally tolerable. You don’t feel the bone deep cold from the start of winter anymore, like it’s there, but you’re focused on doing stuff, and you kind of forget about it, and you realize later it wasn’t even uncomfortable, you were just focused on doing stuff and having fun. You have to be careful, frostbite is no joke, it happens super fast and you have to be careful, but I’d compare it to learning to cook. After you know how not to get burned, you can use your hands to put things into hot pans, and you handle hot things quickly enough not to get burned. You kind of get tougher but it’s more about know how. Then one day the temps pop back up to 0 C and you literally go out in your t shirt because the coat is annoying and it feels positively balmy lolol. It’s awesome, it feels like a superpower to be able to enjoy a beautiful day at horrible temperatures and shrug off the cold. Plus hot chocolate hits different after. This has been my most Canadian youtube comment.

I actually do shiver when I'm super stressed. Pretty sure it's from the adrenaline. When I have to do a public performance it occasionally happens and in times of super high emotional stress I shiver.

The thing is if you DID have a fever, I would expect you to do the ice bath even more. Our goal in the ED (emergency department) is always to reduce the fever usually with Tylenol and while people thing they are freezing (B/c the air temp is now so much colder than their feverish body temps) it is not recommended to cover the person up with a ton of blankets b/c despite the shivering they aren't actually cold, they are TOO HOT. I still say take Tylenol if you do have a fever but an ice bath wouldn't be bad either so long as you don't drop your core temp too low.

Behind the bastards podcast did a video on wim hof, and it seems quite a lot of his claims are false unfortunately, including many of his world records. They're the same misinformation that's passed around by everyone including news sources. It should also be noted that a handfull of people died doing this by also doing his breathing exercises prior to it. It's a 2 parter podcast covering his very bizzare fascinating life including what he accomplished

As a fellow 'cold hands' sufferer, I would love to know how this has affected your ability to keep your hands warm (after prolonged/long term use of the ice baths). having said that. even if you say it has completely cured your cold hands, idk if I would have the courage to do the ice baths! 🙂

Cool video! I feel that a mini freezer and a stack of ice trays would cost less time, effort, waste and money than daily trips to buy ice. Less money, but not quite...FREEze!

My guess is that your "furnace" is taking a while to turn on because you don't have much white fat to convert to brown fat. Also, according to Huberman, it's best to plunge first and then exercise. Testosterone increases when doing this. If you exercise and then plunge it's good for recovery but not for building muscle. Supposedly if you wait four hours after working out you can plunge and it won't affect muscle building.

I’ve been wondering about this, but with so many people on the ice bath train it seems more like a fad. Your video definitely makes me rethink it!

Interesting to watch. 👍 I tried this for two years when the pandemic hit. It helped a lot with my stress. But.. a week or something ago there was released the result of a big study that said that there are no benefits of this, so be aware if you try it. There’s many thoughts about this. 🤗 (And I guess… we started to use fire and clothes for reasons. To keep us warm. So… 😊) By the way, if you haven’t tried it: Snowbathing, or just to take a short barefoot walk in the snow. Feels great!

I threw my back out really really bad recently (you know the way that there’s no good position) and I made the room as cold as I could and rotated a vibrating hot pad and ice packs. I did get the shivers and it was the only time I could fall asleep. The vibrations of the heating pad were pretty great too. I wonder if that’s why cats purr when they are hurt…

14:17 I'm mansplaining this thought about that kind of shivering benefits, The animals tens up, adrenalin rushing through their bodies. They flee to a safe spot - still with adrenaline bursting - so to get rid of that extra adrenaline and be calm they shiver to loosen up tens muscles and releasing that adrenaline. Being really cold and shiver is not the same, and I should probably listen more to Hoff in that. I have not followed his courses but I have thought myself to relax while cold and felt that it helps me to get warm in a calm way. Not saying that Lisa was wrong just that we can shiver for different reason. Under extrem pleasure we shiver for example - relaxing or go with it then; it depends on the situation and You personal preferences.

I was reading something on the internet about all the benefits, and how cold showers are so good for you. So I decided, that's for me! I wouldn't even have to wait for the water to heat up, I could just step in and turn the cold water on.. Okay, If you're a big sissy like me, you'll be out of there b4 half of your body gets wet, but I still believe it would be good for you.
