I Inadvertently Created a BRUTAL New Challenge. 

The HESITATION in his voice at the end when he was saying "let me know.....if y'all wanna...see more no death expert" like he didn't really even want to say it lol. I dunno just made me laugh.

As much as I love the regular runs, I really want to see more of these challenges. I really miss the Blindfold challenge, the masochist challenge, the pacifist challenge. Brought a lot of variety to the runs. Good memories.

Hey ryu. i have an idea for a video. you should do a mario maker 1 endless video. go down to 30 lives and play super expert, if you complete the run just restart with the same amount of lives you finished the last run with. see how it compares to mario maker 2

I loved the normal challenge, but if you do the expert one, imma die. This is so intense that heartrate doubles at every level...

I liked both normal and expert deathless runs and would like to see them again. Since I'm very interested in seeing you complete the expert run, I like the format in this video where you show us normal deathless levels until you complete it and then go for the expert deathless a few times after. I'd watch all of these.

More no death attempts! This was a fun way to make SMM fresh, though honestly, I still love the Super-expert 100 life runs, and the uncleared super experts as well. Also, because I own SMM2 because of you, it is fun to watch you play that as well.

3 levels in and im questioning on what "normal" means. These are more bizarre than the super expert hot garbage lol

For SMM2 I think you should try a expert/super expert version of "one death per level". So if you die, you have to skip. Make it so it's always a one shot and if you run out of lives then it's over, but if you can one shot it then you get bonus lives. See how far you can get? Or set a goal, like 10 levels or something

In MM1, Link can bust through blocks with his head, but in MM2, he can't but he can throw bombs and use arrows. hahaha

After watching this I went back to rewatch your other deathless normal video from almost 6 years ago.

I love this format, and I vote yes for no death expert attempts. Maybe you can give yourself a little wiggle-room by allowing up to 5 skips. Then if you beat that, the next time you do the challenge you only allow up to 4. Then 3, and so on, until one fateful day when you accomplish it skip-less.

I guess technically it's a new challenge since it's in Mario Maker 1 instead of 2? By "created" he means "borrowed from Grand Poo Bear" by "brutal" he means "cut the levels needed for completion by 1/3".

Since you tried this challenge I'll give it a shot offline not recording it because I don't make videos anyways and see how I do at it too. The expert no death run. I feel like there's a trick that works sometimes before going into each level if you can see the name of the level and look at the layout of the level at the beginning and pause it and check for a kaizo and try to sense what type of level creator you're dealing with first to get a feel how careful you should be or quick or not. You know this I guess. Got to go slow unless it's a speedrun. Those are going to kill most runs.

For Expert difficulty of this challenge, as there are a lot more 'unavoidable' deaths on your first run of a level, it might be good to bend the rules of the challenge slightly. Maybe 'you can die, so long as you gain back the lives by the end of the level' - that gives you a few chances to get those unfortunate off-screen thwomps, kaizo blocks, pick-a-doors, auto-levels with precise timing, and whatever else the game throws at you out of the way. If that's still too difficult, for a fun twist, you can say you can still beat the level if you can't get back the lives - but you have to get back to 100 total lives by the end of the RUN. That means that you have to make the choice at every level - do you keep going, when you might not be able to get those lives back? Or do you start over and save yourself the headache? Could be a fun tension-building decision, and since you never know what you'll be playing, it's always a risky choice!

I think an interesting Idea could be "100 live expert / super expert" run, where you have to have always 100 lives going INTO an level, that means you can die up to 3 times, but only if you can get the lives back! Adds another level of how you engage with a level as well.

The fact you can get either a level that is not even a level, "epic" link or airship adventure, some nonsense glitch or random cannon pointing on your face and pray its not a bad auto-level makes this challenge amazing. Keep this up, worth the song if nothing else :D

1 death expert, each level you get one death. ORRRR just need to end with 100 lives, regardless of how many times you die on one level. GIVE US A PERFECT EXPERT RUN, you have teased us multiple times with a perfect super expert run

No Death Expert is the way to go. Too many "freebie" levels in Normal, there's no real risk and you can just sprint through most of them with the majority of the deaths coming from dumb mistakes. But Expert definitely forced you to slow down and play cautious, and thus the tension was a lot higher. You're also more likely to run into a Super Expert level that hasn't made it there yet too. I vote we try this one a few more times!

This video is *amazing* both in the fun it provides and in the novelty of the content. Seeing Ryu play SMM or SMM2 is always well and good, but I always loved the challenges, they add that little something that makes the same run a lot more entertaining. Basically Ryu's too good to expect him to lose a run, so the element of suspance is found again with these little changes. Keep the challenges up!

I agree that having a clear goal makes a game feel way better than just an Endless Run of trying to beat someone else's high score.

We want more! Normal seemed a little on the easier side but there were a few curveballs which (like the last two) which adds a fun twist while watching. And you’re spot-on when endless expert is just “expert” there’s no satisfaction or anything to work towards.

Still my proposal for an EPIC challenge: start on easy with ONE life. Go through all these levels. Take over the won lifes to Normal. And so on. Should be a "multi-part-series" :D

I love how worried he was about kaizo blocks. Like this is normal, not expert/super expert. There are no kaizo death traps just visual noise and chaos.

A new spin to this challenge the 100 lives challenge you get up to 3 attempts to complete a level before the run dies. However you must collect 3 lives before the level is over if you have less that 100 lives

That one level was called "death run," but turned out to just be "swim."

If no death expert can't be done one allowed death per level on expert would also be cool

Come on Ryu this isn't a new challenge... It's just a riff on Barb's infamous Ironbros.

Or a one life-skip expert run, where you only get one try at each level but have to skip if you die

I enjoyed the no death normal run! It was a nice change. Maybe you could allow for 5 or 10 deaths for the expert run? Great video! :)

3 death expert run. After death 1, you must equip an eyepatch. After 2, a Halloween mask. After 3, equip failure.

Would be neat if you did a run where you play through easy, then normal. Then however many "lost mario's" you figure out how to lose before actually starting expert. Then you do a Super Expert run on MM2 and the goal is to gain extra lives up to the total number of times you "lost mario's" during the MM1 sessions, and you must have that number of extra lives not just "gained that many, which also means you have to had lost at least 30 "Mario's."

I like the different challenges. I like the spiciness of the challenges so I would be happy to see more No Death Expert

I think what you could do with expert is try to end with 100 lives. Deaths are ok, but you have to earn the lives back.

lol good video. A good portion of the comments are "BUT THIS IS AGAINST X,Y,Z IRON BROS. RULE!", "This run should be void because of pause buffering", "I've almost had to click out of his videos halfway through because of the pause buffering", and some dude named breezy saying something about "It's like he's playing little 4 year old kid levels lol". The salt you've garnered from this is almost as entertaining as the video, so I say, keep going with the Iron RYU challenge. And pause buffer on every level, even when you don't have to.

Yes please!!! Do you get to choose the settings for the type of levels you want to play for the 16 level normal and expert levels? Ex. Kaizo, auto etc? Or are they completely random?

You created a brutal new challenge? It's just Iron Bros challenge but with only having to complete 1/3 of the levels. It should actually be easier than the Iron Bros challenge But still a very cool video

Expert 1 Life Challenge sounds interesting, maybe then with Joker. 1x a death door, pipe or kaizo joker for a 2nd try if you die from one of the things. 1x a universal joker for a 2nd attempt which can only be used if you have 3 1-Up mushrooms on top of the bar.

I would like to see more deathless expert. Maybe it could be bonus content on days when you finish the deathless normal challenge fairly quickly, like it was today.
