I Invented A Chess Opening. It Beat Stockfish.

In this video, I put Stockfish 15.1 (depth 14) versus another Stockfish 15.1 (depth 14) to see if the cow opening is relevant in ultra-high rated games. Let me know if you want to see a video of Stockfish vs Stockfish with very high depth in the cow opening as well :)

@@mohammedalkhodairy I believe the engine is on depth 14. She is probably using a stronger engine to determine if stockfish made a mistake. She is just making the point that it is good to get your opponent out of theory and we are doing that with this opening and the opening is not bad.

@ralphzoontjens Год назад
@@archivist17 It is. Everything will be a variation of an existing opening. I did find some room in the QPO and invented the Grasshopper opening. It's almost a London variation but I can make a case that it stands on its own - and it also technically isn't a London. So yes, it is still possible to innovate. And to be fair, calling all 1.e3 openings a Van 't Kruijs is giving the Dutch man a bit too much credit. In my book, this cow opening also stands on its own.
@djames2322

Anna, I tried your opening in about 10-15 games. And must say it works well. As you noticed it confuses even experienced opponents, which gives you an advantage. Also, it gives you some variety in a middle game. Yes, I lost around 35-40 % of the total games played that opening, but it's just because of my chess skills. So funny to watch, too - started out really passive and then became hyper-aggressive in the middle, looking to explode the centre (like Anna said) and basically gobbling up everything. Won by checkmate when the opponent had 1 minute more on the clock. LOL. Thanks Anna, superb content! 🤠

Hi , I want to thank you for this opening , I love the horse on that position and I love bishop in center , I don't know chess theory but I just love this opening , I manage to beat opponents at 1400 ELO , it is pretty efective , I can wait to show us some theory for this one , I win ,I lose because I make a lot of blunders , but I love when I open with this almost any player take some time to move , like they are shocked that I use this , if u are careful and don't make mistake it is a very good defensive opening , at least at 1400 , I play with 1500 and I had a good position but like usual I make blunder and loose the game , but the position after opening was pretty strong , thank you again for this and I hope you can show us some high level matches and see if it works , keep up this amaizing job

Interesting. I had a look at the lichess database for rating range 1000 to 1800 rapid and classical (so roughly about 600 to 1400 rapid in chesscom terms) and it has about a 50% win rate when played as white (albeit with a necessarily small sample size). So although it's dubious, it's clearly playable at least at the beginner to intermediate level, although I can't yet bring myself to try it in a rated game. Might try it unrated and see what happens.

I’m glad to see the way I’ve been playing this is fairly similar to stockfish. Early pawn pushes can be problematic and 1400 bots like to bring the Queen out but bishop on e2 makes the knight to h6 an oddly strong move and the queen can’t take. I like eventually getting both bishops to d2 and e2. Opponents like to bring out the bishops to try and pin attacking the king and queen but they’re easily kicked winning back some tempo.

I played over 50 games with this opening at 700 to 800 3 minute blitz and I like it. My opinion: the knights are on the “wrong” square, which is something most people aren’t used to. There are some surprise manoeuvres to catch people off guard and use the awkward setup of the knights to keep your opponent guessing.

A suggestion - I would like to see a "centaur chess", basically you plus engine vs engine alone. Idk how they play those games, but you could set Stockfish to show best 3 to 5 moves and pick the one yourself, quite frequently AI is torn between two or more moves, picking one with human intuition and overall strategy would be quite fun. This format would also be nice to see live. Second suggestion is to set two engines on max depth but use some shorter time limit, would be fun to see how engines do time management.

Enabling multiple lines reduces the engine strength **significantly** if the depth is unlimited (and involving a human in the process of choosing a line probably reduces it even more).

@@-zelda- Any proofs on the "significantly" part? I remember watching some tournament with Magnus and there is a guy that runs a site with either supercomputer or just a strong PC analysis, it runs in two modes, one is usual single line, and second PC one runs in multiple PV, that calculates every (!) move, and even when calculating 20-30 variations the second pc gave the same best moves every time that I looked.

@@_APV_ The data can be found in the Stockfish wiki > Useful data. In general, it shows that enabling a 2nd line has a -100 elo impact and every addicional line reduces it by another 50 elo. Enabling multipv means that resources are shared between lines so you get a wider search but you also get a less deep one. The site you're thinking of is Sesse. It is expected for the main analysis and multipv to agree on most moves, just as Stockfish agrees with other weak engines it competes with on which is the best move most of the time. But most of the time is not _all_ the time, and in chess you have to choose a single move to play and sometimes there are some moves that even if they seem close in evaluation compared to other suboptimal moves they are the difference between winning or not in the long term. In the site, you can currently see that for example in the "analysis after 16… a5", the main analysis evaluation is -0.51 and the best move is 17. Nd2 while in multipv the evaluation is -0.38 and top move is 17. Bd2.

Congratulations Ana ! Put Cow opening into the prove by using engines it's a good ideal. What about use cow opening as defence playing With Black against E4 or D4 ? Would it be a Good study ?
