Tyler is becoming one of the best investigative journalists out there. So stoked to go on these adventures with him.

Two months ago I was homeless with my 3 kids living in my car in Phoenix. I never held a sign or begged for money but there were people who seen me struggling and went out of there way to help me. So so grateful for every single person who helped. Shout out to Officer Jennifer and the walmart forklift driver who rallied together and got me a hotel room for 2 nights and walmart gift card.

The fact that the brother is homeless and pursuing his nursing degree is everything. Please do a follow up on him

I had a nervous break, ended up homeless in the zone. I saw some very sad things and left to move up north. I feel blessed that I somehow fought my way out. Homelessness equals near hopelessness. It was so damned lonely, though there were others around me in various stages of dying.

This video convinced me that no matter how down bad my life gets, I will never touch ANY illegal substances or drugs. My heart goes out to all the innocent people who just fell down the wrong road in life.

huge props to that man who not only just got an associates in science and nursing but is still pursuing a higher degree afterwards all while being homeless. truly amazing.

So why can’t we possibly figure out what the problem is. Why can’t we solve the homeless problem?” “Should we start making punishments for drug dealers much much more harsh?” “No way why would we do that?”

People like you two and the free ride guy and others in the video are very bold and kind, looking past the dangers and just looking to help out those in need and letting the world know about it. Thank you. I’m grateful for people like yall.

My heart goes out to the gentleman who just got his associates in nursing. I lived in my car for over a year doing prerequisites for the nursing program. I'm in my second semester of nursing school now and got an apartment. That year in my car was horrible.

The ending of this video made me cry. Seeing that woman deny help a million times and the workers not giving up on her gave me hope for humanity. Those compassionate words "we all make mistakes" and "i wanna make sure youre ok" are words we need to share more, but not only through social media but also in person.

I was homeless in Massachusetts and I can tell you the wet winter snow and ice can be just as brutal! Now I'm not sure if I'd rather freeze to death or fry in the Arizona sun. I send love, prayers and sobriety to all of these people❤

This is truly heartbreaking. I'm from a super small town so I had no idea just how much suffering really is happening in the bigger cities.

Note: it is important to recognize that "help" and "programs" do not always apply or are not always available to anyone who needs it. Each program has a charter or outline of what it does and whom their resources apply. The gentleman going to school while living in his tent needs a specific set of assistance tools that those deployed in the area simply do not possess. It's due to what is considered "qualified". For example, drug treatment and medical assistance being offered to the older lady does absolutely nothing for the student who doesn't seem to be on drugs and seems mentally balanced. This is what is so aggravating about the American understanding of welfare, assistance, charity, etc. Unless/until you or someone you care about experience a need for which you/your loved one does not "qualify" you may not understand it.

As someone who was homeless in their early 20's (I am now almost 40 and a middle class homeowner), all I can say is thank you for doing these videos on homelessness. People don't properly understand the problem. I didn't have a drug or mental health problem, I just lost family support, my car got stolen, then I lost all my identification which prevented me from getting a job, and it spiraled from there. Soon enough I found myself sleeping in a handicap bathroom at a public park in Franklin, TN. There is a stigma that all homeless people are crazy or on drugs... and though there's obviously a lot of truth to it, the misconception is that the mental illness or drugs are the cause of them being homeless. Many times the origin is more due to chance or intolerance like gay teens being abandoned by their religious parents, or a woman trying to flee from an abusive partner, or for a specific example in NY I met a divorced homebuilder who wound up financially upside down after the 2008 crash and wound up homeless, or a brilliant computer programer who struggled to maintain a job because of social quirks due to being fairly deep on the spectrum. The trauma of becoming and maintaining homelessness can be crippling mentally and can lead to permanent mental illness over time. It took me a better part of a decade to get over my trauma from it. Similarly the substance abuse sometimes comes after becoming homeless simply to try and cope with the trauma. I have lived in Scottsdale for over a decade and the homeless population has exploded. Mainly since Covid. Before we got too busy being parents, my wife and I used to drop off food and supplies to whoever was sleeping on the bus stop near our house. This video inspired me to start doing that again.

Thanx for doing what you do, I was in a similar situation as these people in Phoenix back in the 80's, it sucked. I salute you sir!

Seeing Tyler & Kevin together going around trying to help people out is heartwarming

I live in Phoenix. I try to help the homeless with food when I can, but with two jobs, I can barely afford to feed myself. It's a never ending cycle. Tyler did not show the rampage of prostitution on the blade which is just heart breaking to see. This city is hell. There's no compassion.

Homeboy talking about meth and oxy is a grade-A example of someone who can be helped, and whom the state/national government should be investing in. He knows what’s going on, he knows what he’s doing. We could all be him. Want to see that man rise above it. Awareness is the difference between those worthy of our help and hope and those who are helpless and hopeless. Edit: Guy after him too. FYI. Im a native zonie, my family moved to Phoenix in 1928 from casper Wyoming. Before air-conditioning. The biggest change from then until now is the lack of trees, grass and shade. Befor ac my family lived in south Phoenix and they had sleeping pourches so everybody slept outside. When the zeroscape thing came about the heat island got bad. Asphalt, concrete and hard pack dirt where there use to be grassy yards, trees and irrigation watered all of it. It would cool down at night. We didnt have ac in our cars until until i was in college. It sucked buf we did it.

I hope you and your crew use extreme caution. Because unfortunately mental illness is rampant in the homeless community. I personally have had a street sign thrown through my windshield while driving 55 miles an hour. These videos are great but stay safe and never underestimate what people are capable of

I’ve lived in the suburbs of Phoenix almost my entire 54 years and I can’t believe how bad the homeless problem has gotten downtown and surrounding areas. It’s getting to be like CA!

I’m an Emt here in Phoenix AZ. This year one of my buddies ran on two elderly folks who had fallen in the road and couldn’t get up. By the time we found them, their internal body temperature was 110° and third degree burns across their back from the road… The heat and blacktop literally cooks people alive if they aren’t careful.

Everyone trying to help felt so authentic here. Mad respect for those cops and Everyone else that go out their and risk their lives on a routine basis in order to help people ❤️

Hey Tyler! One thing that I noticed is you guys kept asking how all the people get water. There’s an unofficial law (some people will say it’s a real law) where an establishment can’t deny you water. So there’s always a source of free water whether the establishment has it to give to you, or there’s an accessible water fountain. This applies to all people no matter what their circumstances are because of how hot it is. I have never seen someone turned away or not given water when they have come in and asked.

I’ve been in the mental health system of Portland,or and have tried getting help before and that’s when I noticed how sketched the system was. You try asking for help, they “pretend” to help you by hear you out and listening to your story and your issues and that’s just about it- they don’t actually help you, especially when they don’t even know what your doing. I’ve been through therapist, psychologist, etc. They have these huge degrees and all but in the end they can’t even help you or offer you any advice and a lot of them have a bad attitude with you cause they’re probably sick and tired of dealing with people like you. Ever since I was 11 years old I had mental issues and no one knew I had autism, I learned that online and now my son has it and I am trying to get help for him but the system makes it so difficult even though they advertise that help is always available but in reality it really is not- it’s just there to make themselves look “good”

I started volunteering here with a student research group just this semester, I can’t believe you were here during my time. There is so much within CASS the homeless shelter and the zone and homelessness. Addiction, mental illness, lack of funding and workers, cognitive impairment (this is what we study), the list goes on. The city of Phoenix is under major pressure to clear the zone, which they have begun. Thank you for investigating this. It is so intense and desperately needs a better solution than what we have.

For anyone that hasnt experienced 110-120 degree weather, it is absolutely brutal. Ive lived in phoenix my whole life. Its hard to be outside in it and a lot of people have no way to escape it. I cant imagine what thats like. And in the summer, its just day after day after day.

I live on the east coast of Florida near the Space Center and we have a lot of homeless people around here well all over Florida honestly and it's just heartbreaking, people with money do not realize how easy it is for this to happen to them it just takes an illness or a stroke of bad luck and they could be in the same situation, people really need to be kinder to other people because they could be in that position tomorrow! As a kid my grandma's house was burnt down in a house fire, we lived on the border of Arizona and Mexico in a town called Nogalas. We lived under tarps for about 8 months... my mom got picked up by a dust devil and flung into a tree, still in her chair while pregnant with my little brother.

Drove through the zone looking for a loved one at night, had to roll up my windows due to the overwhelming smell of fentanyl not to mention the looks I was receiving. Lived in az my whole life, never seen anything like the zone until now. It’s like a mini skid row, felt like a scene out of a movie seeing my city like that

Tyler and Kevin, I firstly would like to commend you for the tireless, hard-working enthusiasm you both possess for dealing with the homeless issues that ravish many countries including here in Australia. There is a new 'Tent City just outside the glitter strip (Surfers Paradise) in a suburb called Southport on the sunny tourist capitol of Australia, Gold Coast. I don't live in tent city as I'm lucky in life and live in my house about 20mins south. I have watched 'Tent City's' presence grow with more and more crime in the area, the local Woolworths employing round the clock security for all kinds of reasons including thieving and robbing. The violence drug use is rampart and chaotic to say the least and I'm surprised there hasn't been a murder yet but give it only time. I know the answers lay deep within social culture moral and in turn creating ethical ones with policy and statutes, but I employ one notion that has always helped me when doing some outreach in my own ways and that is to not discount these people's strengths when asking them about the challenges that lay within. We should positively encourage them to pursue more tangible prospects like getting a (SRO) or group shelter just to get the feet facing in the right direction. Please keep doing everything you're doing and then get on the phone with your members of parliament and write those letters to congress together to invoke change in policy. It's people like you that show us where inspiration is. Shoutout to the cameraman/person and crew also.

I live here in Phoenix, my husband also works for CBI and is out there helping the homeless and people struggling with addiction. We are actually recovering addicts ourselves and I truly hope that one day, through a community effort, we can get this homelessness and drug addiction crisis under control. Through compassion and perseverance, I believe we can 🙂

Kevin is an incredibly brave guy. He gives voice to thousands of people who are in no condition to speak for themselves. Close the border and shut down the fentanyl highway.
