The first week I bought my 18 Silverado(first time with a Chevy) we took it to Brianhead UT for a snow board trip. We stayed in a cabin and the last day got about 16 inches of snow. That was my first time in some pretty deep snow, ice and mud. I was so impressed how the truck handled it. I was sold on the Silverado. Love my truck.

I have a 2019 trailboss LT 5.3/8speed. All stock other than intake, 1.5” level up front, and some cosmetic upgrades. I have right at 57,000 miles in a little over a year. It’s been on road trips, down Jeep trails in Talladega National Forest, it’s been in the Louisiana mud, it’s towed tractors, campers and boats... and it’s been my daily. Consistently getting 20-22mpg on the hwy, and a all time best of 30.9 mpg. The trailboss has been absolutely flawless. Nothing but tire rotations and oil changed (other than the recalls, but I never had issues with the “issues”).

On a flat road at 55mph, which I never do for extended periods of time, I get about 28-29mpg in my ‘14 6.2 litre. My 25 mile best was with cruise control on exactly 65mph, going slightly up in elevation, is 27.2mpg. Those gm small blocks are extremely efficient just cruising at low rpm in v4 mode. I get 11mpg around town lol.

To think that Andre used to be just a random on the side that you'd spot every once in a while. He adds to much to the channel on many levels. When Andre and Case tackle videos together, like on TFLclassics, videos feel very heartfelt and you know the two genuinely care about vehicles. Good review I bought some of the first batch and only issue I had was the Rear window leak. I’m only getting 14.9 MPG now because I threw on King Shocks with Reservoirs front and rear. Also threw on 35s and methods. So far take it all over Sedona and quite a few other places. Good truck and I would give it a 7.5 only because I can’t go certain places with it. That’s why I have a Tacoma to go places I can’t:) great review guys!

At 10,000 miles I had to switch out the tires to 10 ply tire. At 30,000 miles both stock rear shocks blew out. It is comfortable to drive. It gets very good gas mileage for a truck. It tows great with weight distribution hitch. It does not 4x at all! I do use the 4x for towing.

I’m not a truck guy. I rented a 2020 F150 XLT and loved the comfort and large cabin space. I started looking at the LT Trail Boss Silverado 2020. I love the look. The seats seem lower than the Ford and the rear cabin space is smaller than the Ford. But I’m still leaning towards the LT Trailboss. Here in SoCal as of June no dealership has an LT TrailBoss left in stock. Other than red. Due to Covid-19 delay of production.

I wish reviews would just drop the 0-60 tests in pickups as it goes against everything they are intended for. I have the same truck in the GMC badging (wasn't a fan of the new chevy styling) and it pulls trailers so much better with this gearing than my previous 5.3L did. Even though the my older 4 speed 5.3L had less gears it had better acceleration but was lousy at pulling loads up hills.

As usual I love watching your content. Very informing and entertaining. However with your real world test of vehicles has served as a reason that I've been hanging onto our older vehicles. My wife's 2002 Chevy Tahoe 5.3 2wd with their row seating and factory 3.73 gear and g80 locker has gone through the same things as this truck and is still getting 20mpg on interstate with now over 200,xxx miles. My 2001 Chevy Tahoe 5.3 4x4 with factory 4.11 gears and no third row seating does get worse mileage however it has been through much worse than this truck. Highway mileage is about 16mpg. Unfortunately these newer vehicles don't really impress me for the price. It's hard to justify buying new for me when the ones we have do everything we need without question and no payment. As for repairs I do all of my own except for air conditioning. That part I leave to the pros that have the proper equipment. Still love the content though and thanks for doing what your doing 😊

I don't know if I would complain to much about the 6 brake applications when it didn't come with the max towing package, and yes i know about keeping brakes cool while towing I have pulled trucks with trailers a lot being a landscaper. I believe the max tow also changes the transmission a little. I'd like to see one with the max tow handle the Ike. Overall I love the Trail Boss wish I could get one I feel they look better than the Rebel, and the interior of the GM's looks perfectly fine. If I want a Cadillac interior in a truck i'd by an Escalade.

We're currently comparing a Chevy 1500 Z71 RST, Nissan Titan SV 4x4, Ram 1500 Built to Serve (I was Navy), and a Dodge Durango RT. We're upgrading our travel trailer and trading our 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk V6 tow package. Over 20,000 miles with our Jeep, the oil cooler was replaced once, and it appears it's leaking again. No other issues I can remember. We've been spoiled with 24mpg average. We really liked the Nissan Titan, highest quality interior and super comfortable seats and the driveline and suspension felt great. I couldn't stand the F150's body shudder and non stop shifting 10 speed a year ago, so not considering it. The Chevy 1500 Z71 RST that I had as a loaner felt pretty bouncy in the front, we will be test driving one this week. Ram and Durango are the two we haven't ever driven.

@@lemuelsrandomworkvideos4259 The alternator is buried under the manifold in Toyota. Is it easy to fix? Also they have issues such as timing chain tensioners and cam tower leaks in the 5.7s. Gas mileage is not good either. And also if some things break such as the timing belt, they are catastrophic usually. Ford diesel engines are alright but then again there is a reason why the Duramax 6.6 has stayed the same in displacement throughout the time Ford introduced multiple diesel engines. I like a clean interior, I would want a 3.55 or 3.73 gear and one size larger A/T Tire and level the front....call it good. Spare does not matter as you are going to go bigger anyway. They put the most basic tire under there for weight and clearance.
@BryBurger

Aside from ok interior my main complaint of this truck is the very limiting wheel wells (need more lift just to fit larger tires compared to other full size trucks) and as Andre mentioned the tires are too small (31"). A better lift with 33" tires would have been ideal.
@15Jeep
@15Jeep 4 года назад
33" tires.....I agree 100 percent for a 1/2 ton truck. Even the GM 3/4 and 1 ton trucks have small tires. The Chevrolet and GMC engineers need to look at the trucks GM built from 1967 tthrough 1972........and duplicate the round wheel well opening.....more ideal for round tires. Big mistake in 1973 going to a square / rectangle wheel well for a round tire. A perfect example of engineers with no common sense whatsoever!

I paid $44,300 for 2020 Chevy TrailBoss LT. Presidents Day Weekend sale. I love mine, for my trips to Idaho, Arizona to OR or WA for my deer/elk hunts... it’s perfect for me. “You’ll never 4 wheel drive that truck” i get from some people... but it will tow a trailer with quads and get us where I need to go. Great mileage as well.

I personally love mine for my trips and it’s just lifted enough, interior is perfect for my outdoor lifestyle, I think it looks sweet and the 10 speed and 5.3L will tow just fine for what I will need it for... all trucks are badass now though to be fair.

awesome review, I love watching your videos very informative. I love the color, red just looks so sporty. I actually like the style and color of the interior. I not a fan of light color interiors, they look nice. I keep my vehicles for a while so it would just be too hard to keep it looking stain free. I have a 2019 V8 5.3 and just installed the Pulsar LT, I know it doesn't add power but damn it drives like a sports truck. I've never towed anything yet, one of these days. For my Silverado will be 3 years old and I think September and I love it I have the satin steel metallic. About 6 months ago I was passing Chevy dealership in Riverside California and they had a red one on the lot I'll tell you this it did look sweet, price tag not so much. So I'll be sticking with my truck for quite some time. I paid $34,000 for the all-star edition with 6-in flat black wheel to wheel step bars. Yeah yes 34,000 not too bad 50 plus for the same truck I don't think so.

A comment about the spare tire.......If You are going to off road your truck often, you may want to relocated the spare from under the bed to inside the bed. The last thing you want to do is have to mess around getting your spare out from underneath the bed. You are going to have a hard time getting the spare out from under there. The first thing I did with my truck, bought 2 full size spares and mounted them in the bed. I have 35's and a 35" inch tire isnt going to fit under there anyway, thats probably why Chevy didn't put one under there( a 32" probably won't fit) buy at least one extra rim/tire to match what is already on the TrailBoss and store it(locked)in the bed

Less than 4 mpg is really bad. Excellent video though, as usual. I just bought a 2020 1500 LT last night, my dirt bike trailer isn’t nearly as heavy, and I won’t be matting the pedal anytime soon, so maybe I’ll get a little better mpg. Mine isn’t the trail boss, so less aggressive tires etc might help. Regardless I’m glad I bought it. C442 FAHQ Racing for LIFE

I looked through the comments but didn't see anyone comment on the payload, which you said was 1,685lbs. Is that what the red & yellow sticker in the door jamb says, or Chevrolet's marketing department? Also, that MPG is good - the more options you add (especially crew cab, sunroof, higher numerical rear axle ratio) will cause that to plummet. My 2019 RAM 1500 Limited eTorque gets 17-19 on the highway and around 15 around town... far lower than its Monroney sticker. My Limited is pretty well loaded (panoramic roof, 3.92 limited slip diff, bedliner, Level 1 equip pkg, 22" wheels) I really wish manufacturers would test fuel economy on a wider range of cab/bed/engine/drivetrain/axle combinations. It would give consumers a much better apples-to-apples comparison between different makes and even different models.

I'm surprised you didn't have any mechanical issues. I just got rid of my 2019 Trail Boss due to major issues. I had an engine oil cooling line separate up near the radiator which pumped out all of the oil, leaving me stranded. GM has a ton of issues with Transmission shudder on the 8 speeds. It felt like going over rumble strips at 70 mph. GM bulletin suggests changing out the trans fluid to mobil 1 synthetic, so the dealership did that. About 5,000 miles later, it came back, just not as aggressive. There is a class action lawsuit against GM for this. Also, when going in reverse, stopping and then shifting into drive, the rear end (possibly the locker) would lock up causing a huge clunk before it fixing itself and moving forward. All of that coupled with an "oh-humm" level of power out of the 5.3, I was happy to get out of this truck. Maybe it was just mine, who knows. Love your videos, stay safe!

You did the right thing getting the 6.2L. The BEST gas engine is the 6.6L gas V-8. Is does NOT have auto/start feature & it does NOT have the cylinder deactivation feature. It's only available in the HD (3/4 ton) model only. I hope you got the extended warranty (100,000 miles) on yours. The engines with the deactivation features have been known to consume oil. I'm sure you did your research before you purchased it though.

Good video! I'm a long time Chevy guy. I bought a 2019 Silverado with the 5.3 and the 8 speed. I kept it 3,500 miles before I couldn't stand it anymore. Mainly I'd want to let your viewers know that the 8 speed transmission is NOT fixed. Don't listen to GM. Do your own research and you'll see people are having the same problems as the previous version had. To give credit to Chevy, the transmission is buttery smooth... until it isn't. Then it's jerking you around. Sometimes it feels like you got rear-ended its so bad. I wish I had bought a 10 speed, I might still own the truck if I had. The 5.3 is still a solid engine. I seemed to get exactly what you did.. between 20.5 and 21 in my daily routine (35% freeway, 35% highway, 30% around town). I will say it's clearly tuned for gas mileage and feels sluggish in normal driving modes. Put it in sport or trailering modes and it's notably more peppy. Next small complaint was the cylinder deactivation. It was surprisingly seamless except in one or two modes at which point you could feel the vibrations pretty badly. If they had just removed those two (of 17?) preset modes, it would have been probably perfect. Mine also had some weird popping noise that would come from the area where the third brake light was. My final complaint is that the truck is just.. huge. Too big, honestly. I can't imagine trying to take it off road if there were any trees. Park 3 inches off center and you are dangerously close to the lines. Frankly, it's too big, and I would say the same for the F150 and newest Ram. It's too bad for some of the major flaws, because there was a lot good things to love about the truck. I liked the interior, the backup camera quality was fantastic, the touch screen and software system was great, back seats were really comfortable, towing power was good, etc.

@Patrick Elliott that's awesome. I'm glad your experience is better than mine was. Your good experience certainly doesn't mean my bad experience and the bad experience of many others is wrong or made up. I'd guess the 8 speed transmission problem is one of the most documented of all current automotive design flaws, right behind the problems German automobiles have. How GM can justify still using that transmission is beyond me. They have to have spent more money trying to fix it out than it would cost to just start over. Starting with the 2019 model, they should have scrapped it all together and just went with the 10 speed in my opinion. It's not only the Silverado it affects..Camaro, Corvette, ATS, CTS, Canyon, Escalade, Sierra, and Yukon also have it (in some trims, not necessarily all). That's a pretty broad customer base that is upset with their transmission - the PR cost is probably higher than the financial.

@Nathan_King
@Nathan_King 4 года назад
Just to make sure we are on the same page, I like the 10 speed I'm not speaking out against it. Regarding the 8 speed, I personally know people that have zero problems with theirs. I know they all don't have problems. How do you describe "few"? 1% of customers? 10% of customers? If downshifting so hard from 2nd to 1st feels like you are rear ended is normal and not broken, then GM needs to get better engineers so that their transmissions are at least on par with their competitors. Whether it's broken or shifting as it was designed, don't make excuses for a sub-par product. It's so bad I've seen trucks in the lane next to me do that hard down shift.. people I don't know, they just happened to be next to me and I could see it. I didn't have to be in and feel it to know its happening. It appeared to me GM wanted to be ignorant so they dont have to deal with it... there are Silverados all over the country that aren't shifting like they were designed to because GM won't own the problem. The only explanation is GM is purposefully and willingly staying ignorant so if they dont acknowledge it as a problem they justify not fixing it. To answer your questions, yes. I know they are. I've personally seen it many times. For the record I didn't get on the internet until after my transmission started acting up. No one planted the idea in my head that my transmission was off. I came to that conclusion in my own. I never felt anything like it in the first two Chevy trucks I owned so I went to see what was happening.

Perhaps one of the reasons the 5.3 is the "most popular" engine choice is because it isn't really a choice at all. Many people will look and look and eventually decide to buy something but when they get to the dealer they settle for what is on the lot because most dealers appear to provide better discounts on in-stock vehicles versus orders. So the question is .... is this the most popular engine or just the one General Motors and their dealers keep on hand most often? I also have to ask...why is the splash guard in front of the rear tire, is it really to help aerodynamics/improve fuel mileage?
