Opened in 1853 this 1.4-mile long tunnel was the second longest in Wales and is another example of an IKB lost gem. This disused railway line from Merthyr Tydfil to Neath conveyed iron and coal to Swansea Bay.
Is that the incline past the cemetery in ynysmaerdy rd?,not far from the small bottom reservoir.I can't remember a bridge there, although I've been to the reservoir I ain't been to the incline for about 35 years
The Brunel tower in Briton Ferry as been preserved but the lock gates are in a terrible state,I go fishing down near there, when I was little kid we used to fish off the lock, when the tide used to up under the bridge by the snooker club.Shame they didn't preserve the actual lock as well as the tower. They landfilled the area where the water was contained by the lock and put the council rubbish tip there. That area could have been transformed into something special with the lock gates as tourist attraction, there are plenty of alternative sites in NPT they could have provided to the businesses there and for the traveller community down there,it's a fkn eyesore atm.
