Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Not sure if you will see this Zach, but I used to work for a feedmill in Wisconsin and my leg got caught in an auger resulting in amputation. If he needs someone to talk to that has gone through a similar experience, I would be glad to help.
@mammutMK2
@mammutMK2 7 месяцев назад
In germany a farmer lost both of his legs I think it was about 6 weeks ago. Had a blocked auger in the hopper while unloading and they were trying to clear it...he slipped and got pulled into the auger with both of his legs. Medical team had to do the amputation on site, as they could not get him out. Engine was running and auger still running, farming assistant was sitting in the cab, so the safety did not shut the engine off.

3 years ago in July just a week before my dad's birthday, him and my uncle that he farmed with we're cleaning out a grain bin to get ready or the upcoming crop in the fall. He went up into the grain bin and had all of his safety gear on. Unfortunately he never made it back out alive. They had to cut a hole in the side of the grain bin to empty all the green until they could find him. It just goes to show you that no matter how careful you are things can always happen. Thank you Zach for all your videos. It has definitely made me a huge advocate for grain bin safety. Although myself I will never use another one again as long as I'm farming.

Hopefully they figured out what happened to cause your father's death of which I am sorry for and someone can learn from it... I know things hurt in life but I hope that you in life learn from say for example an unfortunate fender bender car accident and become a better defensive driver instead of parking the car and never driving again... I'm sorry about your families loss i can tell you really loved him... best wishes

As far as safety goes, there's an old saying among truck drivers, You can go down a hill too slow a million times but you can only go down it too fast once. You might go into a grain bin a thousand times without anything bad happening but you have to remember that something bad could happen every time you go in. A man just died yesterday in Wisconsin when he was buried by corn silage. Another thing that happens in rural areas is people ignoring stop signs. I've often heard people say, "I'll stop twice for it next time." Just a week ago a woman failed to stop for a stop sign and a man on a motorcycle hit the side of the vehicle and was killed. Back in the 1960s near my grandparents farm, a woman and her daughter were on their way to church on a Sunday morning when she rolled through a stop sign in front of a milk hauler. The tank was half full so when the driver tried to turn to avoid them, the milk went to one side and the truck rolled over the car killing the mother and daughter. That has always stuck with me so I stop at every stop sign and look both ways. I am always watching at intersections to see if any approaching vehicles are going to stop.

@jdjd962 7 месяцев назад
Thank you so much... many in my family drive semi are in farming and are in the construction field... there have been some close calls and a few horrible accidents one being someone didnt stop at a stop sign and my dad couldnt stop in time the driver passed unfortunately due to a propane tank the guy having in his van coming up and hitting him in the head so sad... another being my brother being a blacktop roller for state roads driving the roller to the end of the construction zone where the speed limit is typically 55mph with one lane closed speed reduced a fully loaded dump trailer full of gravel come into the closed lane at 76mph and smashed my brother on the roller we dont think he ever saw it coming the semi hitting the roller overturned and caught fire my brother was ejected to the ditch some 50 feet away i hear thankfully miraculously my brother survived he will never be quite right hes stuck in 2015 getting new teeth can't taste food really and is hard of hearing and who knows how long till he goes altzimers but he can eat talk walk drive he has awful short term memory but he survived im so greatful for that every day... my dad while feeding his cows like he did every day was almost killed by one of his texas long horns during covid was just a typical evening out feeding the one went after him ended up slicing up his face really bad all up and around his eye towards his ear it was gruesome idk if he will ever have longhorns again but he sure did love those horns before the accident...
@tiredoldmechanic1791
@tiredoldmechanic1791 7 месяцев назад
@@jdjd962 I'm sorry to see that about your brother. My father worked road construction for over 40 years. It's crazy on the roads these days. Your dad's encounter with the longhorns reminds me of a farmer I knew who had a bull that he raised from a calf. It was like a pet dog to him. One day he was found dead in the pen with the bull which had apparently attacked him.
