Here is how to start from a different perspective. Fate/Zero (F/Z) and Fate/Stay Night (FSN) are written by different people thus the way of story telling is rather different. F/Z lays out everything at the beginning and you simply watch the plot to unfold, whereas FSN adopts a more first person perspective. A lot of information is hidden, hinted and foreshadowed at the beginning. The plot has a big element of spotting and putting puzzles together as it unfolds. The benefit of starting with F/Z is you have a very clear idea of the plot already, with the first few episode laying out absolutely everything you ever need to know. However, this includes a lot of information on FSN cast as well, thus ruining the fun of seeing the foreshadows and finding out how the plot is intertwined (which I personally enjoyed a lot). On the other hand, the benefit of starting with FSN Unlimited Blade Works, going into Heaven’s Feel and then F/Z is you get to find out about stuff rather than being told straight away, however, that does require attention to details. More often than not, I have found people loosing track of certain details and thus missing key information and getting confused. So depending on what you prefer, you can choose either way. If you prefer the latter, there might be a third way, which is to watch Fate/Stay Night (06) by studio DEEN. The animation is quite outdated, but the music is peak. It also does the best work on portraits of Saber. Since how the visual novel is laid out, saber route comes first, then UBW, then Heavens Feel, the first piece of puzzle naturally comes from the first route. As a result, if you watch UBW first, some of the plot may come as a surprise, since it was already throughly explained in Saber’s route. But it’s relatively minor, Saber’s route on the whole, rather stands on its own, whereas the latter two routes are very connected. Hope this helps, and apologies for dumping too much information as always like a Type-Moon fan. ❤

great video dude, loved your reactions. my suggestion would be to pick up fate stay/night unlimited blade works first as the cast is also introduced to the magic system for the first time so the viewer learns alongwith the protag who is equally confused about the grail war as well. fate/zero is chronologically before stay/night but everyone in the cast is familiar with magic system so its starts of confusing for newcomers (still not a bad option to start with for chronological watching) so it can either be: 1) stay/night unlimited bladeworks (series by ufotable) --> fate/zero (2 seasons)---> stay/night heavens feel (3 movies by ufotable) or 2) fate/zero --> unlimited bladeworks --> heavens feel [chronological order] after this you can can watch whatever fate series you like for example the grand order movies or the the new upcoming fate/strange fake anime and on and so forth. keep the videos coming tho.

The reason there are so many spin offs and other media is because so many different authors and studios and game studios are fans of the main series, so they get approval by the original author to basically write their own fanfictions that still make sense within the whole multiverse of fate.

From what I've seen from your content and overall vibe, I think Ufotable's Unlimited Blade Works is where you should start. It still is a good starting point (since Deen's adaptation of the first route of Fate Stay Night which is the Fate route is pretty lackluster). It's less lore heavy than Fate Zero right off the bat and is more... cultured if you get my meaning. Btw start with ep 0 of UBW as thats the start and then the normal episodes.

Fate is part of the Type moon world, the Fate series share a world with Tsukihime, Kara no Kyokai, Mahou Tsukai no Yoru,The Case Files of Lord El-Melloi II. That's why there are series that are more focused on magic(Mahou tsukai and fate), Psychic Powers(Kara no Kyokai and tsukihime) Martial arts(Mahou tsukai, Fate and Tsukihime) everything is part of the Type moon world at different times or sometimes at at the same time with canonical crossovers between the series. Therefore, you may have certain knowledge that may hinder you when understanding the powers. For example, I'm going to give a spoiler that unless you're an avid fan you'll know. The protagonist of Mahou tsukai becomes the 5th True Magician (real magicians are the famous wizards from the Fate franchise who have the power to create anything and mess with timelines) and a few years later she meets the protagonist of tsukihime when he was a child (around 7 years old) and helps him by giving him a way to suppress a powerful power that he has but cannot control and this same protagonist has the powers of the protagonist of Kara no kyokai, another example the father of the Fate protagonist had tried to kill the sister of the Mahou tsukai's protagonist . chronological order: Mahou Tsukai no Yoru>At the end of 1980(protagonist Aoko Aozaki) Kara no kyoukai>1995 to 1999(protagonist Shiki Ryougi) Fate zero>1994(protagonist Emiya Kiritsugu ) The Case Files of Lord El-Melloi II>2000 to 2004(protagonist Waver Velvet) Tsukihime>2004(protagonist Shiki Tohno) Fate unlimited blade works>2004(protagonist Emiya Shirou) Fate Grand order>2014 despite being a parallel universe to the others above, the events to reach grand order are almost the same(protagonist Ritsuka Fujimaru)

Hi,I am a fate fan from China,I am not so sure if my pronunciation is ok,hopefully you can understand me. Firstly,Fate kaleid liner which he said about cute magical girl,is a very interesting series after watching the fate stay night.Because its characters are basically the same as the people in the fate zero and fate stay night,but with a happy ending which is very important.And even though the fighting scenes are not made by ufotable,they are also amazing.I really recommend the F/K,but make sure to watch it after watching fate stay night. Secondly,the fate stay night unlimited blade works is a 25 episodes series made by ufotable,the movie version you mentioned about is an old animate made by studio deen,not highly recommend,but I watched them all because I am fate fan who is hungry for content(LOL). Thirdly,talking about the watch order,as an old fate fan,I suggest you can watch fate zero,then fate stay night unlimited blade works, then heavens feel,and then if you are keen about what happened in the saber route,the fate stay night animate by studio deen is a choice,but not highly recommended,because the animation is old and the character design was awful. After watching fate zero and the three routes of fate stay night,you can try fate kaleid liner then the fate aprocrypha.After that you may try the fate extra anime which is not highly recommended because its storyline is bit confusing. And then join into the anime series of fate grand order,most pf them are awesome. You can watch the two movies of sixth singularity,then the 25 episodes of seventh singularity,at the end is the movie of the last singularity of Solomon.

Classes:- Saber: Usually, these guys were either famous for their sword skills, or were in possession of famous swords, or both. Archer: This does include guys whose main weapon is a bow, but it can be basically any projectile (including lightning bolts and swords, apparently). Lancer: Similar to Sabers, but with Lances/Spears/Polearms instead of Swords. Rider: These guys usually had fearsome and famous mounts (whether organic or mechanical). Caster: These guys were famous for either their magical abilities, or had been famed intellectuals (scientists, detectives, and so on). Assassin: These are an enigma, cuz Assassins being famous kinda goes against the point, but they're usually either actual Assassins/Murderers that were known for their exploits, or they're urban legends and myths (like Jack the Ripper). Berserker: These guys had, at least once in their life, gone crazy.

As you said in your other video, Fate Zero starts off as a bunch of talking, and the talking is there because it tries to explain the system in Fate Stay Night (Unlimited Bladeworks), in Fate Stay Night, it throws the viewer almost straight into the action (by the end of episode 1) without much explanation and the explanation is given throughout the episodes. (UBW also has an episode 0 where it gives another version of episode 1 from Rin's perspective). So that's how Fate Zero "spoils" Fate Stay Night UBW, but it also spoils some other story things. UBW is two seasons of anime, I believe the movie version of UBW is a recap version.

Kinoku Nasu is the author of the visual novel that started it all. By now there have been many other authors that contributed to the franchise, but he's the source. You could say Nasu is the real-world Akasha of the franchise. :) Damn... imagine you're a mage who reaches the root, and there you find Nasu, typing away on his computer and he goes "Congratulations, I'm going to write up a new True Magic for you now!" ^^ Fate/Zero was written after Fate/Stay Night and is written accordingly. It doesn't even attempt to hide what the ultimate outcome of the war will be, because after all, you already know it from FSN, so why bother to obfuscate it? Instead it focusses entirely on the characters and the how it got to that point. SInce I saw (and read) FSN before watching Zero, I can't really say how Zero feels to someone new to Fate, but I've heard from others who started with it, that some of the "twists" were too telegraphed and not at all surprising... the reason of course being, that the production team didn't even try to do so, since the FSN viewers or VN readers already knew what was going to happen, and so put their efforts into more important stuff than trying to hide what most viewers would know already. In regards to the first ever Fate anime, Fate/Stay Night (without any : behind it), I suggest to either make it the very first thing you watch, or don't watch it at all. It is quite old and the follow-up stuff really stepped up their game considerably. By itself it is still an enjoyable series, but it falls quite short compared to the later, better works. Unlimited Blade Works exists as both a movie and a TV series. But the movie (also by Studio Dean) is the worse option of the two, since it tries to cram too much story into too short a time and the whole thing suffers for it. Better to watch the TV series by UFOtable.

Honestly the best things to watch after the main series are either apocrypha if you want more action or carnival phantasm if you need a palette cleanser and some comedy.

Can anyone please tell me exactly why the DEEN UBW movie is bad compared to the anime? Is it just cuz of the animation? And can I watch the movie first for fun and then watch the ufotable version or the other way around? I'm genuinely curious to see how bad the movie could be from a new viewers perspective

The UBW movie compresses an entire route into 90 minutes, it's literally just a highlight reel of the big moments in that story route so you won't be getting proper context for anything. Don't watch it.

Basically... ufoTable adapted Fate/Zero as a possible starting point... And it is a Good Starting Point for Anime-only Fans... The thing with Fate/Zero is that it's meant to be seen after having experienced Fate Route->UBW->Heaven's Feel progression... It's why in the "Short" Version of this Gigguk says multiple times to "Read the Visual Novel"... Fate/Zero isn't even a Direct Prequel of Fate/ Stay Night because there are things in Fate/Zero contradicting what Saber says in Fate Route of Fate/ Stay Night about the 4th Holy Grail War... The 2006 Deen ate/ Stay Night Anime Adaptation is the only Fate Route Anime Adaptation so far and it is actually an "OK" as a standalone Anime... It's Main problem is that it mixes things from the UBW and HF Routes which is why Majority of the "Fans" say to skip it...

While most people will either start off with unlimited blade works or zero and pretend like deen stay night doesn’t exist, my personal recommendation would be fate/stay night-fate/zero-fate/unlimited blade works (ufotable) and then finally heavens feel movies. This is because stay night is the foundation and while deen stay night gets a bad wrap, it’s not nearly as bad as people make it out to be and is mostly faithful to the visual novel. Fate/Zero is a good 2nd because at the end of stay night reveals the fate of shirou’s father and his connections with illya; by watching zero it will fill in the events leading up to the way and set you up nicely for UBW. It goes without saying that I’d recommend the visual novel first, but most people aren’t invested enough to give it a go or jump though hoops to get it running. But for those who are there would be nothing stoping them from playing hollow ataraxia, except getting it to run which is a even more daunting task than stay night in my experience.

You should most definitely start with Fate/Zero and then go to Fate: Stay Night/Unlimited Blade Works (NOT a movie, the version done by Ufotable, ~26 episodes). With Fate/Zero it's just important to not die of boredom and force yourself to listen to all the explanations and introductions in the Episode 0, since they are important. Then it gets exponentially more interesting with each episode. Also, I really really recommend doing Zero before UBW because UBW literally spoils the ending for Zero (since Zero is chronologically before UBW) Update: Also, of course, watch Heaven's Feel afterwards since it's insanely good. And from alternate timelines I also can recommend Fate/Apocrypha since it has a good story and more than decent animation.

I disagree. It’s a prequel only because it came after the original fate/stay night. By your logic, only talking about anime’s would make zero the first choice by default if we are talking ufotable. And I think ufotable intended that, and watching zero first is probably going to set you up to enjoy UBW more. Honestly fate route from Deen would be ideal, but if you don’t want to watch that, then start with zero. I started with zero, and although it’s not my preferred show, I enjoyed watching ubw later SO much more since I got all the subtle references.

"If" you want the best experience: watch the fate stay night (2006) first then go with ubw>heavensfeel>zero But i get it that some might disagree and you might even regret it. Only because for majority of people watching it, fate stay night (2006) is a dreadful adaptation. As for me, i think it is not a great anime, but a perfect start to Fate. Since that is the only anime that focus on Saber. One of the most important character in all Nasuverse. Also that is the only anime where the creator assumes that, you haven't watch any fate adaptation before so they really give you the starter pack done right i think. But yeah, the animation is not good compared to other fate's adaptation I'd start from that shitty animation to the godly animation as long as i get the story as a whole. But ofc, not all people have the same idea about it. And for the safer option, just skip the 2006 and go with ubw>heavens feel>zero / ubw>zero>heavensfeel it all works just fine. just dont start at heavensfeel first.

Ok, to be blunt, just go off this: 1. Heaven's Feel CANNOT be the first one you watch 2. If you want to learn more about the war and the servants literally, start with Zero. Without spoiling, it brings up ideals and what it means to be a hero. this will provide you with the most information of the series and characters, and will spoil several plot lines. 3. if you want a simpler story and would rather start with the least information possible, UBW is your best bet. 4. if you want to start from where it all began, just start with the 2006 show. most people agree it is bad, but it has some pretty cool moments and I appreciate "Clamor of Heaven and Earth" SO MUCH (one of my favorite fight themes of all time). apart from that... its meh. put simply, its where you literally are supposed to start, as the first route in the visual novel.

On the Stay Night / Zero thing; basically SN is the original story, Zero was written later as a prequel. You absolutely can read/watch Zero first, and the anime does a good job of not assuming prior knowledge, but most people will find more enjoyment from watching Zero last. The first "problem" is that the original anime adaptation of Stay Night isn't the best; it's perfectly watchable and enjoyable, but they didn't know if they were going to adapt any more, so they made some odd choices in exactly how they adapted the first route of the VN. Unlimited Blade Works is a series that looks like a movie, and a great place to start. Then there's the second "problem", namely that because Zero was adapted to anime way before UBW or Heaven's Feel, and so they made certain choices with how they adapted it, Zero and Heaven's Feel spoil each other (the book kind of assumed you'd played the VN, so there are things that are written as dramatic irony, but when they adapted it they played those things straight, and then played them straight again in Heaven's Feel). If you just want the best *animation* experience, watch Unlimited Blade Works series, then watch Heaven's Feel movies. They're the highest budget instalments, and the animation and sound design reflects that. Extra is functionally completely separate from the SN/Zero timeline; so you could just play those games instead of worrying about the other timelines. That's how I started. (Prisma actually has great fight scenes btw).

Unlimited Blade Works on the other hand takes pace of the explanation better and has an easier but slower start but will fire up eventually. There is an Unlimited Blade Works movie, but that's not the one Gigguk was referring to - don't watch it, it's not good. He meant the 26 episode Unlimited Blade Works series by Ufotable that came out in 2014. He's also right that there is no perfect watch order too. Plenty of us fans have strong opinions about what the optimal order to watch everything is but at the end of the day, what he said is pretty much correct - UBW and Zero are both good starting points, after that watch what you want. My personal vote would be Unlimited Blade Works first, then the Heaven's Feel movies, then Fate/Zero, but that's just my personal preference. In terms of what you might like, I would say Unlimited Blade Works gets into the action a little bit faster than Fate/Zero, but both have fairly long first episodes so you might want to be prepared for that. Oh, also Unlimited Blade Works has the most Rin in it, which is clearly the most important thing.
@jkosch
@jkosch 9 месяцев назад
Short message: The Unlimited Bladeworks anime Gigguk was mentioning near the end is the series adaptation by Ufotable, not the movie by Deen. The UBW movie is just a confusing tour de force of some (but not all) hyped scenes from that route without any context and it is almost impossible to follow the story to a degree one actually cares about what is happening (also the 2014 Ufotable series is way better animated than the 2010 studio Deen movie). What he said was his suggestion is watch either Fate/Zero (anime series, 25 episodes) or Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Bladeworks (anime series, 26 episodes) and than watch Fate/Stay Night Heaven's Feel (3 movies by studio Ufotable) before you watch other stuff. When it comes to anime (because otherwise starting with the Fate/Stay Night visual novel is still the best option), I personally consider starting with the Unlimited Bladeworks series or with the 2006 series that (mostly) adapts the Fate route the best way before watching Fate/Zero. In the finer points of production (like how the score uses tracks or themes from Zero in Heaven's Feel) it is clear to me that Heaven's Feel has more impact when watched after Zero. I also suggest to start with the spectacularly animated UBW adaptation by Ufotable since you seem to have no patience for dialogue heavy built up, which is how Fate/Zero starts out. When it comes to games (outside of Visual Novels) Fate/Extra (which is a little older as it was for PSP) or the brand new Fate/Samurai Remnant or (if you have the time for the story, even if you ignore the gatcha aspects mostly) FGO are also a decent introductions to the Fate side of the Nasuverse.

Nasu or Kinoko Nasu is the madlad who created the entire Fate franchise. they (because we don't even know if they are a man or woman since they haven't revealed it... there is literally zero pictures of them online. they only go by their signature avatar, a mushroom thing) wrote an Eroge (Erotic Game) known as Fate/ Stay Night(yes, as Gigguk said, this entire franchise started from literal p0rn) and from that he also wrote other series'(Tsukihime, Kara no Kyokai, Maou Tsukai no Yoru) which while technically not in the Fate universe do however exist within the same multiverse and thus the term "Nasuverse" was coined :3

Ok i feel like the chat is confusing you a lot, fate doesn't have an exact beginning unless you play the visual novel, so with stay night, the anime is really bad, i dont care what other fate fans say fate stay night has a really messy story telling (also the animation is outdated so if you watch fate for the fights I don't recommend this one) that makes the experience weird, if you watch it to understand fate is good, if you watch it to enjoy a series there are better watchs, fate stay night unlimited blade works (the anime NOT THE MOVIE, the same studio that made stay night made unlimited blade works movie, I wouldn't call it bad, however ufotables anime is better with this particular series) has better story telling and animation, however its the second line in fate stay night series, you can start there, you wont get the exact beginning however its understandable enough and starts with action rather than words, fate zero is a prequel (which means it was meant to be watch after playing the visual novel), its a really awesome and deep story however it has a slow beginning (only episode 1, afterwards its pure action) any of those 3 are a good enough beginning, you decide which one you want to star with based on your taste, if you enjoyed fate youll see all of them anyway, if you dont at least the first fate you watch was enjoyable (the heavens feel movies which are 3 are really good however i would recommend you not starting there, they are the ending of fate stay night so they assume you at least watch any of the 3 i previously mentioned, mostly unlimited blade works). I think this comment says every basic info you need to know to start, afterwards its another mess, good luck with fate

this is just a little something but if you play Honkai Star Rail you can get an achievement called "Fate Stranger Fake" which you know it's a cool little Fate reference for Fate/Strange Fake. Not the first or last reference of the Nasuverse but it is the most in your face one.

I watched chronologically, meaning Zero -> Stay Night, and then the Heaven's feels movies. But if you want more action to start with, you might want to start with Fate/Stay Night and then Fate/Zero, Heaven's Feel still remains the last one. There will be comments saying about watching something first spoils something else, but that is for all 3 series, and in my opinion doesn't matter that much.

If you just want to see hype fight and not care about the talking? Just look for clips. Fate fights is just the dessert you get at the end of juicy character,world and story building. The fights are just two action figures bashing into each with no real value other than "ooh sugoi desu nee, gimme my dopamine from watching them flashing lights "

The reason why some other people don't want you to watch Fate/Zero first BEFORE Fate/Stay Night was because Fate/Stay Night was created FIRST and so Fate/Zero would served as a PREQUEL and was created in mind that some other people have already watched Fate/Stay Night as some parts of it spoils ESPECIALLY the Heaven's Feel route of the Fate/Stay Night. However, Fate/Zero was also created to be a series that can stand on its own and attract new viewers so some people think that its a good one to start with since its the one that was animated first before the anime of the Unlimited Blade Works route of the Fate/Stay Night. It also didn't helped that the original Fate/Stay Night (2006) was mediocre in attracting fans. It's like creating a story about you first (Story 1) and then creating another story about the younger version of your parents (Story 2). In story 1, we would have some plot twist regarding your parentage but if you watch story 2 first, the plot twist that was in story 1 would not have that much of an impact since you would already know what happened in the past. If you watch story 1 first, story 2 would then serve something like a flashback to how and why the story 1 started. In any case, it doesn't really matter on what you started with when choosing between Fate/Stay Night routes or Fate/Zero since you would still get and understand the main story. I mean most of the new fans started on Fate/Zero while older fans started on Fate/Stay Night before watching Fate/Zero.

Great way to explain. However, when you say Fate/Stay Night, are you talking about the 2006 version or UBW? Or is there another one called Fate/Stay Night which is a remastered version of the 2006 one?? 😭

@@CrypticBoss Fate/Stay Night is the name of the original Visual Novel which is the first and main Fate story. The story is made up of 3 routes/story lines (you can think about it as a 3-parts story) with each part being respectively named the "Fate" route , the "Unlimited Blade Works" route and the "Heaven's Feel" route. The 3 each have their own anime adaptation which are respectively: Fate/Stay Night (2006) Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (2014-2015) Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel movie trilogy (2017-2020) So when we talk about "Fate/Stay Night" it's generally to talk about the 3 parts as a whole story while UBW is specifically the 2nd part

@@CrypticBoss Fate/Stay Night have 3 routes following the story in which 'what will happen if the MC choose to do this and that'. Its like in Route 1, a person choose to focus on being a studious person and the story goes of from that choice, Route 2 is where the same person person choose to focus on their gaming channel instead of and the story goes of from that choice and then Route 3 is where the same person instead decided to be a lazybum and the story goes of from that. Fate/Stay Night have 3 routes. Fate, Unlimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel. They follow the same characters but have different story because in each routes they did different choices that changed and affected the overall story. You could say that these 3 routes were of different timelines of the same period of time. From Fate/Zero it branches of into 3 routes of Fate/Stay Night The reason why there is "Fate" in it because originally, in the Visual Novel, the readers would choose what the MC would do in the story and depending on the choices they made, they get different endings from it. Fate, UBW amd Heaven's Feel are supposedly the good endings. Fate/Stay Night (2006) refers to the original anime or to be more precise, the FIRST anime of the Fate/Stay Night. It was supposed to follow the 'Fate route' only but the studio also decided to add bits from 'UBW' and 'Heaven's Feel' which was one the many mistakes they did in this anime. Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works follows, as the name blatantly told, the Unlimited Blade Works route. Same characters, same war, but got different story because they did things differently from the Fate route. It has Deen's movie version of it and the Ufotable's remake of it in series. It was recommended to watch Ufotable version of it. Fate/Stay Night: Heaven's Feel is well the Heaven's Feel route. It has 3 movie parts. Again, same character, same war, but different story because they did things differently. The beauty of Fate/Stay Night was that you would never got all the answers you need in one route but would get answer in a different route and by watching all of them together, the puzzles would fit until you get the picture of what was happening in the war, from the foreground to the background. For example, in Route 1, a servant got killed immediately? What is their name and who is their master? Well no worries, Route 2 got their name covered but who is their master? Well, Route 3 have that and wow, their teamwork is off the charts, they decimated the battle!.... or something like that.
