I'M TRYING TO FIND OUT THE SAME THING AND I'M ASKING MYSELF THE SAME THING, WHERE CAN I WATCH FATE/STAY NIGHT THE ORIGINAL SHIT IT'S NOT ON NETFLIX, CRUNCHYROLL OR HULU (I THINK) 😭
I watched zero first, but I didn’t feel all that confused. I swear they explained enough of what was happening for me to understand what the point of everything was. I guess I just have superhuman analytical abilities😅
@@MrHunteru It isnt that it is confusing. The issue is that Zero tries to explain the basics AND all the characters background and motives in ep1.Ep1 is just a 45 minute info dump. UBW tries to do explain the basics and two(3 with Kirei?)characters in 5 episodes, 2 of them being 45 minutes. There is a lot of eye candy and character bander between the exposition. So it isnt that people are confused but they just shut off their brain since it feels like a sudden study.
yeah I watched zero first too and it was amazing and they explain enough for me to want to see how the children head off afterwards. I swear if u can't wrap your head around it then you aren't an anime watcher in my opinion.
@@Carti_the_goat0 pretty much late to answer , but fsn and zero is most improtant, but more than that, don't forget to check on kara no kyoukai tsukihime and witch on holy night they are as important as fsn
@@mohamedelhediissa289 different people have different opinions, there are tons of people that loved the movies, heck I played the vn and liked the movies more than the source materials
@@mohamedelhediissa289 they really skip some stuff and Illya gets pretty much sidelined, but the only thing they really did badly was expressing Shirou's state of mind after the cloth release. Everything else, if it's skipped they substitute it with a decent new scene shorter but that delivers the same objective.
Great guide for newcomers 👍. The source material of the Fate franchise started with the visual novel Fate/stay night(3 routes)(written by kinoko Nasu) released in 2004. Then the light novel of Fate/Zero(written by Gen Urobochi) released in 2006. Fate/stay night(3 routes) has a lot of mystery and revelations that get spoil by Fate/Zero. Its not that starting with Fate/Zero is confusing. Its a prequel that is meant to be watch after Fate/stay night(3 routes).
And here I was watching the aniplex Madoka, fate stream. Perfect timing. Been meaning to watch fate sometime so thanks for the vid! Keep up the phenomenal work!
One point: If you happen to be a newcomer to anime in general, like I was some years ago, the studio deen's stay night does not look so bad, because you don't already know how mutch better the ufotable's quality is. And without the video novel, you also don't know what is different in the show. ;-) Also, Saber is best girl. After stay night, I watched the cooking show and then the rest. :-D But ufotable, please remake the fate route!!!
I tried watching Zero a few years back after reading my mind into exhaustion about watch-order. Didn't enjoy myself. I might try getting into the Fate series after watching this video! Thanks.
Yeah, but Heavens Feel has a lot of discovery plot in it that just get lost if you watch Zero first. It's like watching a mystery movie already knowing the culprit.
When I watched Fate for the first time, I went in release order, starting with Zero and ending with Heaven’s Feel. While I understand that Zero can be confusing for people who haven’t watched any other fate series, I still loved every second of it. Plus, it had me hyped up for whenever I saw characters from Zero make a return like Gilgamesh and Kotomine
Other than "Unlimited Cooking Works" spin-off, I would've put Carnival Phantasm there too. The only small downside is, you need to know Tsukihime as well, at least the characters and a tiny bit of the background lore. But other than that, the whole show was hilarious! Wish there were more seasons of this show.
I've never seen the entirety of Fate/Stay Knight (includinh HF). I've only ever seen clips, and still loved them. So if I come back an absolute fanboy, don't be surprised. Great video, by the way 🔥
In my opinion the perfect way to watch Fate/Stay Night is laying on a couch with two full packets of doritos and a bottle of coke. And keep away anything fragile out of your arm's reach cause Shirou's extreme idealism may get on your nerves.
Also, it's almost illegal how you used so many SG images in this picture and only have one video for the series! Also have you tried to get into its universe? The Chaos; series are insane (VN of course, stay away from the animes).
I bought Chaos;Child recently, and I've been meaning to dive into all of the SciAdv series. I've wanted to do more on Steins;Gate, but I think that a lot of what can be done for the series has already been done on RU-vid
@@MrHunteru I promise you will fall in love with Chaos;Child. Even more importantly, the Chaos series haven't been thaaat explored/analised in youtube in my opinion. I'm always happy to see more people getting into it.
This is the objectively correct order (except for reading the VN first)

Do yourself a favor read the VN it's the only way, the real heart of fate is there. You can't go wrong with it and no personally I don't have the patience for a VN but this one, I can't be more glad I did so. I say so because the fate route has never been properly adapted and it's essentially the intended way for the journey. And fate's greatest strength is in it's themes i.e of conquering oneself. There are three story lines in Fate, each has different themes. The first one is the "oneself as an ideal." The second one is "struggling with oneself as an ideal." The third one is "the friction with real and ideal." The first route is somewhat akin to a fairy tale enjoyable and introduces the world it's great but just as I mention earlier as the routes change the themes change the realism compounds, things become more sinster and by heaven's feel all of it turns on itself(my fav). So don't half ass it if you want into it go all the way.
Heavens Feel subverts and deconstructs UBW, which subverts and deconstructs Fate Route. Without the Fate Route to create expectations, UBW loses a lot of its charm, because it's subverting plot points from Fate Route that you never saw, and deconstructing ideas that you were never given. Everyone going in to UBW without experiencing Fate Route in some form or another are really losing out on what Nasu intended.
Fate route enjoyer here, I personally don't understand the hate. It was the first one I watched when getting into Fate and I have never regretted it. It doesn't make sense to me to completely outcast it like its trash tbh.
Me too, even rewatch it like 4 times already. The animation might look horrible but I think we should appreciate the quality of the OST that makes the series alive
And there's nothing wrong with that, Zero is an awesome show. My goal is simply to tell people what to watch so it doesn't seem intimidating, since a lot of Fate fans will scare new viewers away with watch orders
@@se7en845 zero spoils every single route fsn ubw hf and completlly contradicts them both events and characters personalities and events of the 4th war
Fate stay night 2006 first. Studio Deen adaptation is great and doesn't deserve the hate it gets. Kenji Kawai's soundtrack is one of the best of all time.
Agreed! The F#@&ing UBW and ShirouXRin Tohsaka shipper Purist need to stop pissing and Shitting on the first Fate/stay night anime and the Fate route in general.
Watching Order :- 1) Fate Stay Night 2) Fate: Zero 3) Fate Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Work (Ignore the Movie, that's a spoiler. There are two season in Unlimited blade work,Watch both of them) 4) Fate Stay Night: Heaven's Feel Movie 1,2,3
The idea that starting with Zero is preferable only gained traction because the HF movies hadn't been released yet, so anime watchers couldn't know what they were missing. HF2 in particular has some shocking revelations about Sakura and Illya that are, indeed, spoiled by Zero ep. 1 (a prequel in the source material). If you start with Zero, not only you'll not feel the shock, but you'll not even notice that this is new information that was supposed to shock you. Once the theory that it's better to start with Zero took hold, it perpetuated itself even after the release of HF2, precisely because the people who followed that watch order never realized they were missing so much from the HF experience. Many retort that the other watch order spoils the ending of Zero, which is true... but that isn't a big deal, since Zero's ending was never meant to be a surprise in the first place. Moreover, UBW and HF don't get into much detail about what happened in previous Holy Grail war, so they may give you a broad (and even wrong) idea of what happens in Zero, with the details still a surprise. Starting with Zero is like watching the Star Wars prequels first and never realizing that Vader saying "No, I am your father" was a shocking revelation. Is avoiding the spoiler of Anakin's arch during the prequels worth that loss?
@@blackchase6732 can you guys tell me how I should watch the series for the least amount of spoilers? Every video I watch keeps saying watch Zero first but then every comment says it spoils everything. I’m so damn confused

I started with Fate Zero not knowing anything about this stuff and forgot about that show. Now that I stumbled across this video I can re watch it all properly so thank you!!
So I've been doing a custom anime block every Saturday since quarantine and I added UBW to it a while ago, I just finished UBW last week and just watched the first episode of Zero today, I feel kind of mixed on UBW because it does feel like Saber and Sakura get sidelined, which I don't mind too much because it's Rin's route but Saber's the Pikachu of the series and it just feels weird that she's barely in it. Some of Shirou's weird navelgazing got on my nerves too and I hate how it kept kneecapping later fights by having one or both combatants basically be half dead before the fight started. That said I can't stop shitposting about the characters so I clearly had some fun and after watching the beginning of Zero I have a feeling this is going to be more my speed and I'm glad we're just jumping right into developing all these characters since it felt like UBW was kind of scrambling to try and fit in screentime of some of the pairs. I'd love to try Heaven's Feel but sadly it doesn't appear to be on any Streaming service so I'll just stick with Zero for now and maybe Apocrypha and Grand Order when I get around to it.
Yeah, right now Heaven's Feel is like only on gogoanime and 9anime and such. Its really good. UBW is pretty alright but it has a lot of issues with its story, Zero is amazing tho. I think you'll really like zero
I watched Zero, then Stay Night. It's hard to go from the dynamic and flashy Zero to the regular anime pace of Stay Night. I mean they had those typical chill let's-show-the-audience-a-Japanese-meal type of scene. It's weird to watch that after Zero.
They're fundamentally different works and zero(despite being a prequel which written later than the original FSN) was adapted by ufotable earlier, and done better. To be succinct, the ufotable FSN adaptations just feel toothless and way too safe; the VN on the other hand is really good, it's a chunni, somber, urban fantasy work that can wander into horror territory at some points, and I don't know why the anime had to turn it into this action packed shonen show which skewed public perception of fate for all time in the western side of things.
I rather watch Oath Under Snow over Heaven's Feel because I hate Sakura's route. I find Sakura's love story with Emiya bad. In Oath Under Snow they tire to do better job at making Sakura more likeable and more useful. Question does Shirou keep living as puppet after Sakura died in her route because that is not a happy ending.
I understand it says "watch" in the title but all of this would be so much easier if people decided to read the visual novel, though unfortunately it's not easily accessible (not really if you're willing to spend around an hour of downloading and installing some files, but y'know...) and I understand not wanting to read for over 50 hours when you have cool animated visuals available. I really hope F/SN gets a remake because that's the only way we'll get an official localization that can be downloaded without much hurdles by a modern audience.
The only thing to know about the right watch order is that there isn't a right watch order. You read the visual novel first and everything after that can be experienced in whatever you want. If you go with zero or ubw first the entire impact of saber as a character and the set up of shirou is completely gone which I think is a huge part of fate stay night. It's even worse because zero in particular attempts to give some context to fate route saber and the rest of the story, but without that actual knowledge of fate route, it gives an entirely different interpretation of said character than intended. Personally I'd go 1. Fate Visual novel 2. Zero anime 3. Hollow ataraxia And then everything else. The fsn vn gives everything you need, zero fleshes out the plotholee of back up history and hollow ataraxia gives insights onto the characters and further explains different parts of the lore as a nice palette cleanser
I'm an anime-only guy and I knew I'd want to start with the visual novels before even bothering with the anime. And you said to skip the 2006 series (which isn't even on Crunchyroll anyway) and just watch UBW. OK, I think I will.
Also in terms of adaptations, Zero was created first and there's references and callbacks in UBW that you wouldn't understand if you hadn't seen Zero prior.
@@mlordwhiteslayerfromf.u.g If you ask me people need to stop S&@#ing and P&#@ing on the original Fate/stay night anime. I watched it and the UBW movie and both were still okay.
By not recommending Fate/Zero as first watch, this video is already a 10/10. As Good as it is, YOU DO NOT START WITH FATE/ZERO Best way is still, JUST READ THE VISUAL NOVEL.
@@grimwolf485 zero spoils everything about the 3 fate routes. The fate route reveals saber's identity, the ubw route reveals archer's identity and hf reveals sakura's identity.
i dont understand the deen/stay night argument of it spoiling things. I watched Deen/stay night after UBW and enjoyed it, i saw what the spoilers were for UBW but they werent super obvious, it kinda hinted at the UBW route/events. For someone who has never watched fate, deen's fate route might be good cuz it sets up the ufotable routes plus the watcher will be very excited to see the UBW from that 2000s animation to the UFOtable animation
I watched Fate UBW, I liked it but felt unsatisfied not knowing what happened with Sakura but I dont feel like watch 3 movies...probably will watch in a couple years
Whoops, I watched (the Deen series) Stay Night then Fate/Zero. Shucks, didn't think Zero would spoil Heaven's Feel. Fate/Zero is goated but I HATED Stay Night. Unlimited Bladeworks has a lot to prove to get me to like Shirou and care about that story!
I watched the deen fate first and then watched zero being confused as hell, then when I watch ubw and heaven's feel i wasn't really hooked in the story....maybe because the deen series kinda spoiled. Hopefully no one makes this mistake 😐
It's jsut really depends on the individual. I started with the DEEN anime, because THERE WASN'T ANY OTHER anime of fate besides the Deen's version. But I'm proactive, and started reading the Visual Novels. Like people shit on the Deen anime too much, when the DEEN anime made the earlier boom to begin with. So, it's not a mistake to start with DEEN's anime, is how you follow it up what matters.
13:00 i gotta disagree on this one, no, you are right, they are unnecacery to watch, but almost all of nasuverse is like this, you don't need to watch fate stay night to understand fgo or Apocrypha, or tsukihime, or kara no kyoukai or ... , you watch them , because they are cool(most of them anyway), so that's it, if you enjoyed fate stay night, you definitely can tries other part of nasuverse, and it doesn't need to limit ourselves
You should definitely start with the 2006 Deen version, there is so much you will miss if you don't watch the Fate route which is the main route anyway. The order after that should be Fate/Zero, UBW (UFOtable version), Heaven's Fell movies in order 1 2 3. If you still want more Fate UBW Deen's movies does have some stuff that it does better than the series so watch that. As for spin offs, Prisma Illya is really good, so watch Prisma Illya, than 2wei, 2wei Herz!, 3rei and the two movies (oath under snow and licth nameless girl). Fate Apocrypha has the best fight in the entire franchise, and Today's menu for the Emiya Family is a really wholesome iyashikei.
I watched ubw then FGO Babylonia and then heavens feel. I think if you get interested order really does not matter. just remember to watch sub not dub.
so to recap what ive learned...this should be the watch order 0) fate/ stay night (i realize this was another route just now) 1) fate/ stay night ubw s1, s2, ova, specials 2) fate/ stay night heaven's feel 1, 2, 3 3) fate/ zero right???
Pretty much yeah, just take out the Fate/Stay Night part. I talked about it in the video first since it comes first in the visual novel, but the anime spoils every other route. You can watch it whenever you want after UBW, Heaven's Feel, Zero
