@@sksksksksksksksksksKorea has a lot of positives, but as a foreigner it has more negatives…
@putsomerespeckonmaname540
@putsomerespeckonmaname540 Год назад
@@sksksksksksksksksks It truly depends though. I will say that as a foreigner there are some downsides -- the law already is very lenient to perpetrators and not so much to victims who are Korean, but even more not so to foreigners. But on the flip side it's a very CCTV heavy country, no guns (like America where I'm from), and I felt safe there in general from these facts. I just came back from Korea last week after a whole summer there and it was the best experience of my life (I'm a black woman from America btw). I came back and found myself missing Korea so much, as I had met so many friends and been to extraordinary places. It was life changing. I can't speak on how it is to live in Korea long term, but for the eight weeks I was there, I appreciated living in Korea. Despite being an obvious foreigner I felt so much at peace, freedom, gained so much confidence within myself, and being a Korean Hallyu wave consumer is also a bonus lol

@@putsomerespeckonmaname540I think why some people develop depression and anxiety in Korea is that you have to dress and look good everyday and people might judge you if you look like you don’t have makeup on or etc
@putsomerespeckonmaname540
@putsomerespeckonmaname540 Год назад
@@hallooos7585 that's true there's definitely a heavy emphasis on beauty and looks there that many Western countries don't have to that extent. Even when I went I noticed myself wanting to put on makeup more. but on the flip side before coming to korea I had no sense of style lol. while there I found myself interested in their fashion and got into new makeup trends (skincare as well). I feel like I spent time getting myself ready in the morning but it felt a bit nice? to focus on myself like that and feel confident in the outfits I wore I felt like coming back to America if I were to wear the same fashion that I loved wearing in korea, (at least in the area where I'm from) I would be ridiculed so there's always two sides I guess. I like the extra attention I pay to myself but I can see how it can be a hinder some, especially after a long period of time

This made me so emotional. No one can ever imagine the whirlwind of emotions we encounter on these respective journeys we have embarked upon. Leaving home, leaving your loved ones, venturing into the unknown, to be all alone in foreign lands is not an easy feat but, we muster up the courage and take the bull by the horns. These countries grow on us, become such an essential part of our existence that it's almost impossible to imagine ourselves outside of them. There's days where I long for Japan, so much so that, I question my decision to leave and come to China. But, my journey continues and I can only hope that this is the beginning of bigger and better things yet to come in your life. Sayonara, Nolu, I have no doubt that Korea will also miss having you in its bosom. Fare thee well ❤.

You're experiencing the same feelings that you felt a year ago now. These experiences deeply alter our perspectives on life as a whole. I also felt extreme loneliness in South Korea. Since it was a place I had been wanting to travel to for quite some time, I found it so perplexing. I kept asking myself, "Why am I not happy?" It became a total paradox. If you make that choice, to go to a Asian country, alone! Knowing that most Asian countries are racist, with a exceptional few people. Your setting yourself up. No pity party here. Although, in Jesus Christ Name I pray that he protects you. As people know, there are countries, states, cities, towns, that you can find a job and feel safe and comfortable. I encourage you to pray. This resonated so much with me. I've had some experiences where I wanted to give certain people the benefit of the doubt, and that led to them tearing me apart mentally. I would think about all the good times we've had and all the things they've done for me that I would forget how mentally draining they are to be around. I am getting to the point where I am accepting the reality of things and slowly distancing myself from them. I hate people who ghost other people, but I am too afraid to confront them. I don't know if I'll ever completely cut contact, but I will definitely take steps to make boundaries and distance myself. It's kind of like how people get so nostalgic about a time period that they forget all the bad things that happened during that time and idolize it. I wish you all the best.

South Korea imprints itself upon your soul in a way that being there for any amount of time past say 2 or 3 weeks, you don’t want to leave it behind when it is time to go. My country has a lot of faults but I would not live anywhere but in the US simply because it’s what I know as the core of me. Family and tradition and home. However, South Korea never fails to pull at my heart and soul each time I visit. Finally I came to the conclusion of spending extended but not permanent stays there was the key to having my cake and eating it too. I applaud you for being there as long as you were and applaud you again for knowing when it was time to go. May you continue to grow in strength and wisdom wherever your next adventure takes you.

I left Korea about 3 months ago and it feels so weird... While living in Korea, I always knew I would not stay there forever, I told myself that I would not last more than 5 years and so I did, I lived there 4 and a half years. Now that I am back in my country, I realized many things that I was missing out, spending time with my family, big important events (good ones such as weddings and bad ones)... Even simple stuff as getting my hair done and food has become so much easier, since my hair is afro, it was always a challenge to find a salon that did not complain and knew how to do my hair well without damaging it, I lived in Gangwon-do and I had to go all the way to Seoul because there was this korean guy that really knew how to do foreign hair ( he lived abroad), now back at home I have a hair salon in front of my house. With food, I had very hard time because I have IBS and my stomach cannot handle gochujang, ramyeon, and foods that have heavy/fermented seasoning (jjimdak, etc.), the company I worked for provided lunch and they provided alternative food for muslins when they served pork, I also tried that they included me and my colleague when they served foods that contained gochujang/fermented seasoning but the person in charge of the kitchen tried so hard to kick me out of the alternative menu, she even told me that I should do as Koreans who are vegans and bring food as if my problem was about a choice I made of not eating certain foods rather than me having an allergy plus this was our company benefit, not even HR helped with that... and If I talk about all the injustices I had to go through in the corporate world and see other people also go through, this comment would be a book... now that I am back in my country working in another company where they tell you to speak up if there is a problem, you feel more respected no matter your position, you can report sexual/harassment to an anonymous hot line ( something that happens very often in Korean companies and even though you report to superiors, nothing really happens) and many other issues, it feels very refreshing to know you have the resources and that you can do many things again without being judged/treated differently... I am at a moment where I have mixed feelings of bitterness and I need to heal from the many of the bad situations I went while living in Korea... Nonetheless, I always going to miss the good things about Korea, the safety, the mobility, getting to know many people from different cultures... now That I am in the other side of the world, Korea feels so far away again and that it was I hate, because I want to be able to go there for vacation and be there for a while to enjoy the good parts. Every time I see K dramas I feel nostalgic about places and certain foods(it makes me understand why k drama fans think Korea is the best thing ever)... Even though, I went through very bad situations, there were also many good moments and while being there it made stronger and accomplish my dreams of travelling and seeing the world so I hope I can heal from these wounds, not to view Korea with rose colored glasses but to be able of not feeling bitter when I think about the country.

I had bad experiences in Korea too. I can never speak enough about feeling silenced, that drove me to insanity but outside my job I was happy. When I left I knew I could never work there again and chose to focus on mostly the good parts about my life there ❤️ I look forward to visiting in the future.

Your endurance in staying as long as you did surprises me. Undoubtedly, your time there allowed for the formation of friendships, the imparting of English knowledge to the upcoming generation of students, cultural interactions, language acquisition, and so much more. Yet, in viewing a few of your subsequent videos, I sensed a poignant undercurrent of loneliness stemming from difficulties in finding a partner, given the perception that you don't fit the specific Korean standards. What strikes me is your undeniable beauty and youth. While remaining in Korea has its merits, especially if you intend to live your life independently, it prompts contemplation about your long-term happiness. If your aspiration is to eventually share your life with a partner, why confine yourself to a country where your unique beauty, captivating skin tone, and other qualities might not be fully appreciated? You deserve to be in a place that values every aspect of you. It's not uncommon to encounter stories of beautiful black women who migrated to Korea, only to find themselves disheartened by the lack of attraction they receive due to preferences for lighter skin tones. My query consistently revolves around the choice to remain, particularly for those who moved there willingly, not including those born there. Your remarkable beauty is undeniable, and my suggestion is to seek a destination that wholeheartedly celebrates it. Embrace a locale that will cherish your individuality before the passage of time potentially dims its radiance.

Omg is this how she speaks in person? Did she rehearse this? Wow im impressed with the way the words flow and the understanding I received and felt from every word. #Introspection is a word she spoke that I myself as an english speaker haven't used. I know the word and its meaning but wow. 🤔 I like this lady.

Keep going, it's only upwards and onwards for you. I met my Scandinavian husband in my adventures as a teacher...marriage came at the right time at 32 and now we have 2 mixed race children. We live between two continents (Europe and South Africa) and still travel throughout the world extensively. Always live for awe and wonder because life is too short!

I’ve never been to that crazy country, but often get this feeling that South Korea doesn’t like foreigners; especially coloured folks. I’ve been proved right time and time again!
