Air shocks have a reputation for a "Poppy" and "Playful" ride feel. But, can you get that from a coil too? In this video we answer the question....."Can it POP!"

Switched to Push front and rear while on vacay in CO a few weeks ago. A week with air on my Transition Scout, and a week with Coil and I’m so so glad I went back to Push for this new frame. I love the feel and adjustability. Worth it all.

Thanks Darren for making this video and of course the shock! Currently running an R Series with a 400lb. spring (165lb. kitted up) on my V2 Sentinel that was originally specced with a Super Deluxe. Transition did a great job with the stock tune but it's known to have a stiff rear end. I was confident a coil would help with compliance but could only hope that I could keep the pop alive with the 11-6. I can honestly say it's unlocked even more potential out of the bike. It takes to the air at every chance, more supportive when loaded, better bottom out control, rear is more composed in the rough, all without any compromises to climbing. The ownership experience is also on another level, it's awesome to reach out and have the owner respond personally to your questions. Looking forward to fitting the S series upgrades on my first service!

When I first got my 11-6 shock it came set up soooo dang poppy and playful I was completely blown away by this. It was too much so I backed off the low speed around 7 clicks and some high speed as well. Such a great rear shock. It’s so dynamic.

Excellent video and so well explained. I'm riding two bikes with 11/6 shocks (Transition Sentinel & Forbidden Druid) and I'm loving the coil shock on both bikes.

How are you liking the Druid? I just built up a dreadnought for my park bike. I like it so far. Haven’t had enough time on it but I’m really interested in the Druid now for a trail bike.
@ThomasSchoen

@@EndoMTB I love my Druid. I usually switch bikes every 2 years but I have no desire to get a new bike. Had over 120 riding days in 2023 on the Druid, from bike parks to gnarly DH trails, but mostly daily blue/black XC trails in BC's Interior. Bike performs like new, with regular maintenance. My spouse rides a Druid as well and she has a similar experience. No need to upgrade. The Druid just seems to suit our riding style. So yes, I highly recommend it.

I'd love to try the 11/6 on my Specialized Stumpjumper Evo Pro. My buddy has one with a 400lb spring, and I would need a 550lb. Still at a 400lb it feels great.

Yep, also if the fork is air (I hope not) how did they deal with the friction…
@cben86
@cben86 10 месяцев назад
@@softbatch7236 99.9% certain it will be coil as they already sell a fork coil conversion kit and are pretty outspoken about the benefits of coil over air. Betting the new fork uses the coil conversion + their HC97 damper.

What makes this difficult is that riders can have widely varying ideas of ‘pop’ and how to accomplish it. I like to run a bunch of lsc and hsc which gives me a ‘platform’ to push against (ie pushing faster than the suspension compresses). Others like jeff kendall weed tend to go for very soft suspension and slightly faster rebound, probably to push the bike deep into its stroke, which then rebounds with a similar end effect. I think both can be achieved with coil, although a small volume airshock ramps up quicker, resulting in more pushback and in that sense, pop.

Poppy feeling comes from increased damping. who knew that absorbing energy could be energetic. dude you're out of your mind.

Hi Darren! I just got a new bike. A transition sentinel. I really want try your coil. The only trepidation I have is weight. Am I being silly? Have any idea the actual weight difference?
@HD-on2eg
@HD-on2eg 10 месяцев назад
I think decreasing LSC makes the bike feel more poppy. More energy will then be returned. LSC damping slows down, and dissipates energy, so less energy will be returned in the form of rebound. Just my 2c.

Guys, I have an ACS3 in my Fox 36 170m. I run a Zipp 3 moto on the front which is so good for grip and compliance. I’m probably 82-85 kg filly kitted up. I think I have a blue spring but I use about 90% travel on most runs. Don’t often bottom out but also my trails don’t have big drops and jumps but more steep tech of Scotland etc. do I go up a spring to the green to make the front of the bike higher or look to play about with more low speed compression? Will the stiffer spring make a big difference and allow me to run less compression but a bit more LSR to compensate? Cheers Jonny

Thanks Darren i ve just turned into a Push on my Forbidden dreadnought and is it normal that with the Lsc and hsc fully open and the rebound too the shock feels not farst at all? Feel like the rebound is half closed. Thank you I cannot sleep thinking why😢

what is the weight compared to a high end air shock
@PUSHIndustriesInc
@PUSHIndustriesInc 5 месяцев назад
Don't know the exact weight difference but it is comparable and even slightly lighter than most coil shocks.

How does friction cause it to feel poppy? I'm not sure I follow your explanation. If you take the example of adding more damping to the extreme, and just lock the a shock out, would that be very poppy?
@PUSHIndustriesInc
@PUSHIndustriesInc 10 месяцев назад
A poppy feel comes from the shock creating resistance at low shaft speeds. This resistance can come from friction which is not adjustable, or from damping which is adjustable.

@@PUSHIndustriesInc Is it similar to the rear end acts like a hard tail (for a tiny moment) when the rear suspension starts to compress? Hence, a more responsive bike?
@PUSHIndustriesInc
@PUSHIndustriesInc 10 месяцев назад
@@pdpcycling248 not quite to that level of stiffness, but you're on the right track in regards to the dynamics.
