@Ed Ducate I don't disagree with you on that. I also know a lot of foreigners, friends, and family who made a lot of money in Angola. As a someone who is more interesting in business than politic, I'm more of the mindset of "I will succeed with or without a functional government, whether in Angola or aboard", cause I kinda have the privilege to think like that... However, I care about my country and my people, and I don't like how the government is handling the economy. Everyday I see people struggling for basic stuff, I see children and families eating on the garbage, misery everywhere. It breaks my soul... We were not rich, but now we are poor and live in misery. When come to confrontation, it is inevitable. It is a time bomb. Most young people don't like the government, not only that... They are more educated than the previous generation, and they have nothing to lose, cause most are poor and unemployed.

Great channel, lots of content. Just wanted to add as an Angolan myself, most of the food you mention is not angolan food. The food they serve in 5 stars restaurants and hotels are not traditional angolan food. I respect you saying that i didnt like our food, but actually it's not our food your referring to. Traditional plates like, Funge, kizaka, fumbua, mengueleka, rama de bata, kiabo, katatu. Were not i. THe highlight of your video in terms of real angolan food. But still a good videos. 👍🏾

Sorry... Since the food in Angola isn't that great? I found this comments highly disturbing and full of bias... you should probably sound best if you would say - I don't think... but blunt stating that the food isn't great is just ridiculous... So people in Angola (and please stop saying Luanda, Angola all the time), Angolans, don't think food is that great? You're completely ignoring people's tastes and perspectives example, I am Angolan currently in Houston and while I praise the fact that there is a variety of cuisines, it doesn't mean I found the food great for my liking I don't like Chinese food, doesn't mean is not great, I get the beans, rice and chicken/stake in Mexican restaurants - I like because it brings me "home", but I don't think the way they cook is necessarily the best, whereas an Houstonian may find it just fine... so I think you would be helping people better by either - stating facts, or putting things in your opinion instead of blunt statements like that one... you lost me right there!

Would it be a fair depiction of Mexico and what the country is? I doubt that. same with the US, would it be fair for the US if I was to say it's just a country filled with racist white people, gangs everywhere in LA, police who act like cowboys and kill any black they arrest. Thank you for the video. I just want to point out a "trend" I find interesting. When talking about housing in Africa or the Middle East or Asia, non-Africans/Middle Eastern people or Asians tend to call what is clearly a Gated Communities elsewhere, Expat Compounds... not sure why... but from first hand experience those are pretty much the same thing. We have many of those Gated Communities spread across the Americas. They also can be found in parts of Europe, New Zealand and Asia.
@LifebyMelissaAndrew
@LifebyMelissaAndrew 3 года назад
Yes, I agree they are basically the same thing - a gated community and an expat compound. The key difference is an expat compound is typically expats only. Versus a gated community will house anyone. In Angola, we lived in a gated community and there were several Angolans that lived with us :)
@lizwilson51
@lizwilson51 Год назад
Some expat compounds abroad are restricted to only expats. They also may have small grocery/convenience store, cafe, preschool or daycare, and a variety of community activities and amenities as well as private transportation for everyone living on the compound. US gated communities are usually just houses.

I definitely got offended by your food comments, but I don't blame you. I can understand how growing up on fake meat and radioactive potatoes in the US can render your taste buds in a near-dead state, so you don't recognize fresh produce and fish. I don't hate on expats, but I don't like how the expat situation is very one-sided. You can come here, but we can't go over there, and if we are lucky enough to be an expat in one of your countries, we don't have the same perks as you. Melissa. There is poverty everywhere. There is an ENORMOUS amount of violence in the United States. There are people who make over 100k US dollars and are homeless. There are people who do not feel safe there. Not even children from other children. It's heartbreaking. There are places in the US that has trash in the streets and it stinks so bad. There is so much poverty in lots of places, but people are considerate enough to show the good parts of the country that they appreciate instead of showing videos that look like unicef propaganda. That is not to negate the fact that there is poverty in Angola like all places around the world. The company that built your development, was it an Angolan company or foreign? There are plenty of people in Angola who live in houses built by Angolans and do not experience the issues mentioned in your video. The food you described is not traditional Angolan food. Btw...Portuguese and Brazilian foods are delicious. There are places there that are not surrounded by the poverty shown in your video. Living there for 4 years or less while working in a company that provides you with the basics does not make you an expert or informed enough to make such videos to illustrate things there. Try using words such, "my experience in ...". I do agree that life there is generally hard.

Waw! You worked in Angola? Have you asked yourself how many Angolan citizens have been allowed to work in the US? Did you know Angolan students in the US are not allowed to work ? however Angolan students in American universities have to pay 3X higher tuitions than American students do. One of the reasons Angolans are poor it is because they don't charge people like yourself extra money like you charge them in your country. I am sure your kids paid the same tuition rate as Angolan kids in Angolan schools. It is even possible that your kids got free education in Angola. I am sure you would never show homeless Americans sleeping on the bridges on the winter snow all over American cities. You should have made a video talking about gun violence in Chicago and racism in America justice system.

Also instead of you guys getting upset at the video uploader for just reporting her experience, instead you guys should be furious at the corrupt Angolan government who is the cause for all of this from the wealth gap, poverty and lack of good infrastructure(and the good ones only for the affluent), prices, etc that's been going on since the Dos Santos government. And lets not forget a mixed Portuguese elite class... And bringing up poverty in the USA(who the average person in poverty is living better than the average person in Angola) is not going to solve this issue. The POVERTY rate for USA is $14,000 a YEAR. The poverty rate for Angola us $1.90 DAILY! And according to the World Bank 32.8% of the population is poor vs 11.5% for the USA. Also where are the SOCIAL programs for the poor in Angola? Where is Angola's homeless shelters? Or even food stamps? You guys are just upset that she shattered the DELUSIONS of Angola being this rich country in Africa. All I see is kneejerk reactions.

I must call out, to you is you put Brazil before angola. And completely ignored the fact that slavery happened. The reason why the cuisine is similar is because of the tribes that were taking in the transatlantic slave trade, those people groups brought their recipes and cooking techniques with them. Among the major countries during the transatlantic slave trade was Angola, Gabon, Nigeri,a Congo and Ghana... Which is why the food systems tend to overlap especially if you compare to Brazilian, Caribbean and even African-American food styles and flavor profiles. I think it's an important piece that you should certainly add because it removes the colonial ignorance from your rhetoric.

Aye Melissa & Andrew, I hope you don't think that Angolan women are "oppressed" and need to become vegans and woke. Since you like expatriating here, would you be so kind in keeping your misandrist, radical femehmist thoughts to yourself? The women are doing fine in Angola. They don't need to become "strong" and "induhpendent" (I know how to spell, but you are ingenious to decode?). I thank you in advance. Regards, Anti-feminist Voice for Such Expats.
