I love the one where Lucy pretends to be burglarized and kidnapped. Then the conversation between Ricky, Ethel and Fred while Lucy is on the window ledge. This one is hysterical . Also the one with Lucy can not tell a lie- tacky and tightwad.

I love the episode when the group is in Europe and Lucy was arrested in Paris for using counterfeit money. The scene in the jail with Ricky and the police officers translating the questions to Lucy is hilarious.

New Mexico episode is often overlooked. So hilarious. Some of my favorites are in Hollywood episodes. My favorite being sneaking into a stars room and having to escape down the rope.

Not only for the beautiful duet Ricky and Juanita sing but Ricky's face when the silhouette of Lucy starts to wail and the exchange as the song goes on! Haha! I loved the chocolate episode. It was so funny it hurt. I was surprised you did not mention that when Ricky fell the first time that it was not in the script and was really an accident and because the audience laughed so much he fell additional times on purpose. That one and the vita one were both super. It is really hard to pick just 10 of them to show someone.

Oh my goodness Rick your list is great. I would only maybe add the one where they bake bread and the big long loaf comes out of the oven! Episode 25. I would also add back in 2016 just before I retired and moved here to Coachella Valley I lived in Connecticut and everyday on the way to work I would play the song "California Here I Come" on my CD player in the car and in my head see the scene of the Ricardo's & Mertz's in the car on their way to California!

My list: Vitamitavegamin, the chocolate factory, the episode where Lucy discovers she's pregnant, the episode where Little Ricky's born, Harpo Marx, John Wayne's footprints, the Cuba trip (more for Desi's/Ricky's background and its historical background for our relations with Cuba then vs. now), the Scottish trip (same background reason for Lucy), Superman, and the one where LUcy's nose is lit up. I'd also throw in the Long Long Trailer movie. There's many, MANY good episodes, I'd love to highlight the ones with cultural significance or ones that highlight the background of the series or show how significant it was. So many people, especially in the Hollywood episodes, came to be on the show that were Hollywood bigwigs at the time, I know I'd find it amazing to show, even if it's just a small portion.

Good top 10 Rick; agree with all but I have I have two that are heartfelt because it shows the writer's and the actor's ability to convey affection; 1) Lucy is Enceinte, at the end when Lucy and Ricky kiss because of their new found baby happiness as I imagine it was really Lucy and Desi so happy; this never fails to bring tears to my eyes; and 2) Ethel's Birthday when the two cry when the plot of the broadway show involved one friend dying over an unresolved argument; shows the friendship between the characters of Lucy and Ethel.

Hi Rick. Fun video! I couldn’t narrow it down to 10. Kudos to you! I will share my thoughts though. The Martian episode I never really liked. I’ve also spent years hearing about how funny the conveyor belt scene is in Job Switching and never agreed. I do love the episode for other reasons though the biggest being Ricky and Fred cooking, ironing and then buying the girls candy at the end! Lucy Does a Commercial is iconic and her acting is superb in the scene where she films the commercial. While I enjoy the one with Bill Parker, it annoys me that her big chance is ruined by her eyes being dilated. It is funny though. I prefer the one where she dances with Van Johnson. It brings tears to my eyes every time I watch them dance to How About You. Hollywood at Last is definitely in my top 10! Just hysterical! I also love Lucy Tells the Truth and Equal Rights. My kids and I would joke around when they were growing up saying “Don’t hit Ethel! Don’t you hit Ethel!”😂. And The Golf Game with Jimmy Demaret is one of my all-time favorites. Lastly the episode where she’s trying to tell Ricky she’s pregnant gets me every time. True emotion there. And going to the hospital is iconic. Thanks for a nice walk down memory lane. Great list Rick! I recently saw a rerun of Lucille Ball on a game show. She was nothing like her character of Lucy Ricardo. There was a certain regalness about her and well deserved. It made think and appreciate her comedic genius and acting on I Love Lucy. They way she downplayed her own celebrity status and made us feel like she was just an ordinary housewife that wanted to be in showbiz. The consistency throughout seasons is a discussion among itself. She could have easily be one of my relatives. 😆. The fact that she took her art very seriously and turn it into someone that was average and ordinary like me, is an accomplishment in itself. Hope that makes sense.

Here are my ten favorite episodes ranked in chronological order, not a ranking by preference: Lucy Does a TV Commercial season 1 episode 30 The Saxophone season 2 episode 40 Lucy is Matchmaker season 2 episode 62 The Camping Trip season 2 episode 64 Never Do Business with Friends season 2 episode 67 Lucy’s Mother-In Law season 4 episode 105 Lucy Visits Grauman’s season 5 episode 128 Ricky Sells the Car season 5 episode 131 Lucy Gets a Paris Gown season 5 episode 147 Return Home From Europe season 5 episode 153 While Lucy’s comic genius is a highlight in many of my choices, my favorites reflect a preference for scripts with well developed plots and superb dialogue between the characters. On another note, one episode on my list is “Lucy is Matchmaker” which is probably the most “adult” episode of the entire series. In addition to the underlying theme of adultery, when Lucy and Ethel are knocking on Eddie’s hotel room door, a man passes by and says, “If Eddie won’t let you in, I will.” I’m surprised this episode got by the censors in 1953. Finally perhaps the best sight gag of the entire series is on the episode titled, “The Camping Trip” when Lucy allegedly shoots a flying duck, and a fully cleaned and plucked bird falls from the tree (courtesy of Ethel). Folks, that’s comedy writing at its best.

I recently came across something and wanted to know if you have any info regarding this: do you know if Lucy had a connection to upstate NY regarding owning a home in upstate NY, in Norwich or nearby. What a brave man you are, Rick. I could NEVER pick ten "must watch" episodes. As I once wrote in response to one of your videos, a top ten "anything" for I Love Lucy would run at least 25 episodes. So many the episodes are mini-classics. I will only a few episodes that you didn't. I love the episode where Lucy is on the train and keeps pulling the emergency "stop" chord. "Charm School" is hysterical, especially when Natalie Schaefer comments on Lucy's make-up, stating that it looks "rather pasty". Lucy's hurt and pouty response was "I'm not wearing make-up." One of the most classic exchanges ever. I also enjoyed when they went to Ethel's hometown and did all of the shenanigans behind her back while she was singing on stage. So many that I can't even think of any more to add. Your list is perfect. So will be many others of your loyal fans. This is truly a tough video to respond to. I am the written equivalent of "tongue-tied"! 😁😁

I appreciate your rubric for choosing the episodes, even though I wouldn't necessarily have chosen all the same ones. ~The relationship between Lucy and Ricky - Lucy is Enceinte, because I think it shows just how much they really do love each other. ~The relationship between and the mischief of Lucy and Ethel against the boys - the camping one is a good one, or the diet one, or the bbq one. ~The relationship between the Ricardos and the Mertzes - Breaking the Lease, or the one where the Ricardos go to NY to see the Mertzes at the same time the Mertzes are coming to CT to see the Ricardos. ~The relationship between Ricky and Fred - Job Switching would be a good one here, or the gossip one maybe. ~The baby - the hospital one ~California Trip - CA Here We Come is a good one. ~Europe Trip - Nice, France, with the cheese on the plane. ~Connecticut - the tango one with the eggs ~Physical Comedy- Vitametavegamin, hands down ~Lucy's desire to get into show business - The Diet or the ballet one or The Audition

The ballet episode would definitely be in my top 10. When she goes to the club thinking she´s doing the burlesque routine and starts hitting the ballet dancers--hilarious! #1 is the vitamin bit, but not just for the commercial, but the part where she spots Ricky on camera and joins him in the singing! #2 is Lucy´s Italian movie, when she stomps the grapes; #3 is The Diet and the way she dances in the audition and during the number with Ricky; #4 Lucy Tells the Truth; #5 Lucy goes to the hospital; #6 The Seance #7 Desert Island (especially the way Ethel mimics one of the bathing beauties and sticks her chest out) #8 The Passports (when the doctor is singing with Lucy who is in the trunk and Ricky walks in, startling the doctor) #9 The Ballet #10 L.A. at Last (with William Holden). Honorable mention would go to Lucy gets homesick in Italy (when she misses little Ricky on his birthday and throws a party for the village kids and they sing happy birthday in Italian. It gets me choked up every time.

Great list, Rick, and what a difficult task! So many wonderful episodes of I Love Lucy. I love Home Movies too. It’s one of my favorites, if not my ultimate favorite episode of any TV show. You mentioned the episode with Eve Arden and I actually watched an old movie called Stage Door that had Eve Arden and Lucille Ball in it. It was very good👍🏼

Hard to argue with your list . I would say the Lucy does a TV Commercial has a most classic scene it tells someone what her range is as a comedic actress. I am such and Ethel stan I probably don’t rank this one as high as many do but it is an essential to understand what the show is about. My other nine choices are Lucy Changes her Mind . Underrated and Lucy and the mannequin is hilarious! The Freezer. Money issues and a lot of good things happening with Lucy and Ethel. Ricky and Fred are TV Fans a slightly different take on the men vs women since the men don’t know it’s even going on! The Gossip. A bet on gossiping with the guys vs the gals and it’s all out between them . The Staten Island Ferry . I rank this with any one of the more talked about episodes. Her getting the passport alone is funny but the whole episode is great. Job Switching or the candy episode. Quintessential Lucy episode The highly underrated Martian episode. The Kleptomaniac episode another classic with Lucy at her plotting best .The Italian movie episode. More classic Lucy wants to get into show business.

I've always enjoyed the one where Lucy gets her passport for Europe. Fred isn't crazy about boats so he and Lucy practice with sea sickness pills on the Staten Island ferry. They fall asleep and keep going back and forth from S.I. to NY. 5 minutes to 5pm they get to the office. Omg that episode is so darn funny!

Lucy and Ethel teach Ricky and Fred how to play golf 1. Lucy has to tell Ricky she is having their baby Not really in order but those are the ones i would show someone who wants to get to know Lucy et al

There is SO many episodes that is virtually impossible to pick a top 10. As I was reading through the comments below, I had forgotten some of these famous episodes and I immediately remember them and I said to myself, "oh yeah, that one too has to be included", 😂😆!!!!! Pluto TV is now showing select I love Lucy episodes on their channel. I had hoped they would just go in order from episode 1 to the last episode like they do the Andy Griffith show but they are not doing that with the I LOVE LUCY CHANNEL, they are just playing random select shows. sorta a disappointment but I am happy to watch it and to have it. I've been watching it all night for sleep and during the day as well.

Great list and i love them all and it's hard to pick just 10. My list would be almost identical but there were two episodes I could substitutes for your list but I'm not sure which two. Season 1: The Diet sets the stage for the series. We see all 4 characters and Lucy's desire to get into Ricky's show, her audition was hilarious and then we see Lucy and Ricky performing together and she is wonderful. Season 6: Lucy hides the eggs. I know you didn't want us to consider this season but to me this had one of the funniest scenes in the whole series when she tangos with Ricky carrying fresh eggs in her shirt. Comedy gold. I would also include the grape stomping episode since it's right up there with Candy factory and Vitavetavagamen.

I almost can say the Top 10 and my 10 favorites come out to be the same thing. If I pick them as favorites they must be good and I’m sure someone that’s never saw the show may feel the same way. Anyway I do agree with some of the ones on this list. I didn’t see any Europe episodes on your list I believe. Obviously it’s hard to pick 10 out of 179. I definitely would not include the martians one. That’s one of the ones I did not like along with a couple of others. The one that’s not included in this list is the one when they go to Europe and Lucy misses the boat one of my favorites

Another episode that is so funny is when the boys trick the girls into thinking a famous designer in Paris created the potato sack dress with scrub bucket hats. 😂

Lucy becomes Ricky’s agent in Hollywood. Lucy causes Bill Holden to get food on his face. Lucy and Harpo. Mr. Littlefield fires Ricky and the lunatic trio impersonate guests at the Copacabana. Lucy/Ethel and the Martians. Lucy does Carmen Miranda. Lucy in Paris wants the Jacques Marcel dress. Lucy in Italy does the grape stomping in the vat. Lucy thinks Ricky is out to kill her. Lucy cannot tell a lie. Lucy goes to Florida with Elsa Lanchester(ax murderess Evelyn Holmby). Lucy is tired of the boys watching the wrestling fights, ignoring her and Ethel then getting arrested for "stealing" a dime/trying to cut the wires. Ethel and Fred think Lucy is the cat burglar. Ricky makes Lucy go on a schedule. Lucy and Ricky and Mr. Merriweather(Jay Novello)/weegee board - seance Madame Merzola. MORE THAN 10! This is impossible because 90% of the episodes are great!

I think that you chose some Great Episodes, however, as I've said throughout, the way I look at My Favorites is Those having The Orchestra/Songs in them (this helps to sell the viewer that this show is much more than A Comedy. Lucy Does A TV Commercial (El Relicario - Desi says, Mr. Hatch, referring literally to The Musical Director Wilbur Hatch); 8. The Indian Show (Pass That Peacepipe & The Waters Of The Minitonga); 9. Rickey Goes To The Eye Doctor (King Porter Stomp - Jitterbug Show); & 10. The Anniversary Present? (Down Argentina Way). The Chocolate Factory/Job Switching, Wine Making/Lucy Visits Italy?, Be A Pal (Mama Yo Quiero - I can't spell in Portuguese), California Her We Come, Lucy Thinks Ricky Is Trying To Murder Her, Bon Voyage (Lucy misses the ship), so many others get a few Honorable Mentions.

The chocolate factory or Job Switching, vitameatavegamin, I also agree with the bill parker episode and the million dollar idea, the one where she worked hard to get in to the hospital to bring little Ricky his teddy bear, also California here we come, Bonus Bucks , Lucy trying to lose weight so she can dance with Ricky in his show...I got wind of it !! Which is so funny, Lucy and Vivian go to charm school, and the episode where she makes a bet that she can't tell a lie....so funny

Lucy does a commercial is my #1 fave. Switching Jobs is another. Lucy having a baby. Hollywood at last ,the 1 where they met Ernie and Charm School, The Diet,the one where Ricky has issues with "Ough" words The No Children allowed and last Ricky tellsthe story of Little Red Riding Hood

Favorite was the one with a very young Barbara Eden. Hilarious to watch the husbands too tired to dance with their wives suddenly turn into energy-filled Fred Astaires when sexy Barbara shows up. Hahaha.

Good list. However, Lucille did NOT have the baby (Desi Jr) the night they filmed the ILL episode. The episode AIRED the night Desi Jr was born. It was planned. Lucille had a C-section.
