I adore your creativity and enthusiasm! I always need to strap in when I watch your videos and prepare myself because I know I won't be sleeping that night!
Wow, Wow, Wow, Katharyne! That was the most amazing content EVER! If there was an Award given to anyone for the giving of help to customers, then you & Isaac would win it every year & I mean that sincerely! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge in such an easy to view way. You both ROCK! 🏆🏆🏆🏆
Katharyne this was absolutely brilliant! I need to go back and watch it again - so many good ideas for working with prompts. I'm just getting started with MidJourney and already I'm amazed at what I'm able to create!
I’ve had Midjourney for a few months…just playing around….but this introduction taught me a lot I didn’t know AS WELL AS inspired me to DO more and HAVE more fun with my subscription! Thank you!
One of the best videos I've ever seen on RU-vid!! Thank you!! I tried joining Midjourney awhile ago, couldn't figure it out; your video helped me - I'm in, and already creating! I found out about this video through joining Imagine today; for anyone looking at how to make coloring books, Katharyne has something new out called Imagine. In Imagine, this video is recommended for those new to Midjourney. Thank you, Katharyne!!!
What a fun video! I'm hooked on MJ too! Over 10,000 images, mostly between midnight and 4am after work. I can't wait to use them with TT when. I get there but for now it is just so much fun! Thanks for your wonderful enthusiasm!
Here is a quick tip. instead of typing /imagine, all you need to do is press ' / ' and hit enter. Also @1:10:00~ mark when you were showing using the /describe with an image. There is no need to copy and paste one of the descriptions you like. Just press either 1 to 4 buttons below the original image.
Dear Katharyne, I would like to thank you for your valuable work. I am convinced that purchase of Tangent Templates is by far the best I have ever made. Please look forward to your video on creating coloring books, thank you!
Great video. I had literally played with Mid Journey for a few minutes, but not explored it’s full potential. Joined your FB group and will be getting a paid plan with MJ tomorrow.
BRILLIANT Katharyne! I've been like a kid in a sweetshop, creating my images in Midjourney today. I woke up this morning loving ChatGPT and being a bit 'meh' about Midjourney, but I PROPERLY LOVE IT now that I've watched this video! THANK YOU! ❤
Thank you so much for this very informative video. You have a way of presenting information that makes it easy to understand for a newbie and makes the learning process become less intimidating. Can't wait for your next videos!!!😁
Thank you Katharyne!, This was such a great video, i learned so much. I've taken a break from POD for a while and this really gets me back in the mood. I didn't realize how much TT can be a companion for AI art.
Love mid journey - thanks for a wonderful walk through the potential - please do a video on how you can make the images you create move rather than static
Hi Katharyne . Always great fun to watch your creative process! Thanks for sharing all that great info. Do you do any market research or just intuit what would make a good niche or sub niche?
Thank you for watching! A bit of both! I tend to look almost anywhere but books to find niche ideas. My bestsellers have come from niches that are new, or slightly obscure with little to no competition. I’m not really into super popular book niches like kawaii avocados where the ship has mostly already sailed :) I listen really hard to the kind of hobbies and activities my friends (and random people on social media!) are passionate about, and keep my eyes peeled whenever I’m out and about for weird things on noticeboards, magazine racks, at festivals and so on. I listen to the unusual things my Gen Z kids say. If people LOVE something or have an opinion on something, there’s a way to turn it into a book that they’ll buy. (And ChatGPT can be a really helpful tool for brainstorming!) Sometimes I just follow my instinct and make the book (after all, it doesn’t take too long to try an idea out now, especially with Midjourney!) Sometimes I’ll do a bit more research online on sites like Pinterest and Google trends to get a better feel for the niche. There’s really no right or wrong in my opinion, but I think there can be a lot of reward in trying out an idea, and if you like your idea, you’ll WANT to market it and show it off, and the whole process becomes a lot more fun! The most successful low content/coloring authors I know all experimented with something original and new rather than copycatting existing book ideas.
Hi Katharyne! Such cool content. I'm always inspired by you! But with Midjourney, are you not getting artistically overstimulated? I am! I'm getting overwhelmed! I'm afraid the competition is going to get even harder???
Thanks Laurie! I hear you on overstimulation. Midjourney is addictive and there really are infinite things you can do with it, which absolutely can feel a bit overwhelming. But it's also a lot of fun and I think if you use it to create in a style that you enjoy (like I love making pictures that look like my dog!) then it can be really rewarding. I think the way to tackle competition is the same as ever - choose niches wisely and focus on specific target audiences rather than following the herd... and of course, keep learning and building a good eye for design. There's nothing we can really do to stop to competition, so I think the best thing we can focus on is to keep learning, growing and building our own skills
Yes, KDP gives you three options for differentiating your PD content so you can publish it - Illustration, Annotation and Translation. Whichever you choose (in this case, Illustration), you need to check the PD box.
Yes and no. Creating your own server and inviting the bot to it is fun because you can create with your friends. But the images will still show up and be publicly searchable in MJ’s gallery unless you are using /stealth
No you can't copyright an AI image, but if you use images from Creative Fabrica or Canva or Unnsplash, you don't own the copyright to those images. You are using it based on the licensing agreement. You will never own the copyright to the image, but I would never let that get in way. I simply use the image appropriately
Yes I believe you can copyright your own AI generated image especially when you do compositing, colour grading, editing etc. It can take hours to get the image how you want it to look. Otherwise nothing on this planet can be copyrighted. Everyone creates new works based on other people's work. AI generators are just tools like pens, image editors etc.
Re: ‘AI art is not real art’ - There is no objective way to label something ‘real art’ so this statement doesn’t really mean anything. People have leveled the same criticism at Duchamp, Warhol, every electronic musician and DJ ever, every performance artist, street artist, body artist, installation artist and pretty much anyone else who has ever created something in a way that someone else disapproved of. For me, I see AI helping people who may otherwise struggle to express their thoughts and ideas, whether visually or through words. I’m at a loss why supposed ‘artists’ who usually claim to think a bit more progressively and towards the wellbeing of society, are so against people having access to technology, other than because it is hitting them in the pocket. Seems like a lot of gatekeeping and fear - which is understandable, especially in the current economy, but I think the anger is misplaced. Austin Kleon’s book ‘Steal like an artist’ is a great reference. Re: ‘talented hardworking artist’. Nothing wrong with preferring handcrafted art. Buy what makes you happy!
its kind of disgusting to me see how people monetize with no intellectuality or sense of art, please stop to do it and do something for yourself, next generation gonna appreciate that!
The vast majority of monetization happens with little intellectuality or sense of art, particularly in the US. Fast food restaurants are one of the biggest employers around. And absolutely, I think there may be room for some discussion about that and about what we value in society. Personally? I play at an indie theatre every week. I’d love to spend more of my life making more live art, music and theatre, and doing research. But the economy is not set up to value those things as much as I would like, so at this point, I accept them as hobbies. Monetizing technology like Midjourney gives ordinary people a way to stay home with their kids, create products they feel good about and pay their bills in a way they are comfortable with. I don’t see anything disgusting there. And I don’t really think there’s any need for people to judge the ways others create.
