Cool video but what is the tool you use for querying the db?

I fucking love that intro. I’ve got such a new appreciation for just saying the facts follows by “there is more but the basic gist is X” Stayed for the whole video

Great tool and thanks for showing. My favorite is a VS Code Exensions called Database Client by Weijan Chen, you can run queries, but you can also have them in your repo and version control them, which is great and works with ALL the database and really easy to set it up. DBEngn sounds cool, but does not seem to possible to run multiple instances of Postgres or MySQL unless you are use different minor versions. I am not a huge Docker user, but I put a simple docker-compose inside my project and I have my alias set up with "dcu" and "dcd" and it's really easy to spin up as many instances of DB as you need. Thanks for the video!

I’ll use docker to build up a quick Apache, PHP, MYSQL.. setup on Linux, or on MAC I might use something like IndigoStack. I’ve been loving TablePlus, got it even connecting to my Planetscale DB through iPad Pro. Love the videos!

Navicat is a pretty cool alternative, has some advanced features others might not have. Also I love how people keep asking the same question rather than a quick search in the comments.

They might tout the whole native thing, but it definitely installs an entire chrome embedded. So it's either using it for some browser display, or it's an electron app.

i'm currently using datagrip but if TablePlus had some kind of database sync/schema compare feature, i'd make the switch

for the windows people the dbngine alternative would be stackbricks and atleast i use dbgate instead of tableplus

Cool app, I've been wondering what you are using. I prefer HeidiSQL as the GUI and Docker to run the DB.

"Instead of writing it over and over, I thought why not create a video?" It was at this point I thought, oh man, you're gonna be disappointed... "and link the video over and over and get more views!" Nevermind. you get it.

Its a nice tool on mac, but coming from HeidiSQL on windows its lacking lots - its got terrible memory leaks and gets very very slow after running for a while - also does not do column truncation when viewing loading large fields in data viewer, so it can get very slow loading - hiding columns does not prevent them from being pulled in data viewer - on reconnection after a connection failure it sometimes executes the same query again - i think there were some issues in the table structure editor Various other things that i just miss with HeidiSQL. Good thing though is the added protection running destructive queries, ive got it to require my fingerprint just as a safety measure.

for a simple app, adding more seats is expensive. And you can't use it on multiple devices of your own. ie using on my personal mac mini and work macbook

if you put name of the software (TablePlus and DBngin) in the title of the video - people who look for information on those specific apps will be able to stumble across your channel.
