I imagine the "black ones" are the fish that haven't coloured up yet ;) Will have to wait and see, but the marble patterned ones seem to stick out to me and the yellows.
Thanks to Joey for doing the two Afr. Cichlid tanks. As a keeper of them myself, I am glad they have a place in the gallery. Keep up the amazing work Joey!
They look beautiful. My heart was pounding every time you were holding them in your hand to show to the camera. I'm always freaking out when I'm moving fish around like they might chock on air.
They do "choke on it" in that the air causes their gills to collapse (instead of spread apart in water) which dramatically reduces the surface area and prevents them from absorbing enough oxygen.
Very stunning, but bare in mind, a lot of the stuff imported in terms of Cichlids from Thailand are raised on fish farms and are hormone fed which forces them to colour up prematurely, even the females colour up like males and some males will at some point lose all their colour. If your LFS is reputable, you shouldn't have any problems with his supplier or wholesaler 👍🏽
Get well my friend, I know your fish tanks & enthusiasm always put a smile on my face!! Your gallery already rocks & I know it will only get better from here on out!! Your a true marvel!!
Joey, peacocks are difficult, I've had them since 2002. The OBs, strawberrys, and Jakes are the hardest to deal with, they are the most aggressive by far. The lawandas are probably the least aggressive. The only way to keep peacocks is either just 1 or more then the tank should hold to overload the aggression.
TheBoever true, there is not a single female in this tank. Takes away the natural behavior in my opinion. As well i don't like the hybrids, so many amazing species of Malawi peacocks, no need fort hybrids.
maison reef Ya it takes some away from the natural behavior but honestly African Peacocks (unless is a species only tank) the aggression factor if one female is added causes so many issues. that's why it's all male tanks not mixed.
Neib051 not even 1. Females peacocks do not have elongated Fins, they do not have color like this on this size. After more than 25 years of keeping and breeding Malawi cichlids i can sex them with one eye closed.
He probably meant Thailand since Taiwan, to my knowledge. Doesn't have big facilities meant for fish breeding/selling. Besides, heseemed a tad agitated when he noticed how bad their water was.
Joey I love Africans, part of my love for them is the wide diversity. Most fish stores sell the same ones. I search fish store to have the rare ones. I have been keeping them for over 15 years...in fully scaped tanks. The keys is overloading the number of fish in tank by use if sump or wet dry, no females unless breeding, plenty of food, and rescaping. Basically minimize their aggression by managing what they compete for. They require a lot of time and definitely not for beginners in the hobby.
I still miss buddy in the Vlogs. I'm In The Darkest Day Right now. Your Videos Make my day positive. My Girlfriend Broke Up With me yesterday. I Apreciate your work so Keep up the good work. I Like fishes so that's why I love these kind of videos. Keep up the good Content 😌.
I can't wait to learn more about this tank! One day I might want to keep this kind of fish. I've been really drawn to them because of the amazing colors.
Notice at the beginning Frank was trying so hard to get Joey's attention and it worked for a second cause Joey stopped looked at him in a moment of silence then went back to fish unboxing lol.
They have always been my favorite fish. Glad to see that is one of the tanks you're doing. If you still have those glasses, you should put them on for these fish.
Why are Africans coming from Taiwan ????? These are not wild caught ? ... plus I am pretty sure there was a African cichlid supplier in Canada or even the US. The shipping time would have been much less stressful .
I have been keeping African's Peacocks and Haps for 25 + yrs and the first thing about these fish I can see already is they are juiced, I have gotten my share of Fish from Asia and its pretty much common place for the fish to be juiced. I would highly recommend that anyone interested in keeping Africans to NOT buy from Asia but to Buy from South East Cichlids, all Butches fish are German stock and the quality of the fish are outstanding and NEVER juiced. The majority of these fish in the next 2 to 3 months will be colored down and drab in color......................Keep this in mind and when Joey shows these fish mid to late November how much they color down. What the Asians breeders are good at is not over juicing their fish, they are bright (Not overly bright) so they dont wash out completely but they will not be nearly as bright come Oct or Nov!!!
I kept cichlids for about 8 years. They're awesome fish. You have some really nice ones. I found it best keeping them slightly overcrowded. The peacocks all look male to me too. Females don't tend to be this colourful. They're usually more dull and grey with shorter dorsal and anal fins. A lot of people keep all male peacock tanks successfully. I've always wanted to try it. Looking forward to seeing more updates 😊
