I have a 20gal long planted tank with large-small size rocks making caves with a large piece of drift wood. Plant light is on a timer kept on 12hr a day. Temp kept at a constant 78 degrees. I have 1 male betta fish, 3 sword tails(2 female,1 Male) 3 harlyquinn rasboras, 1 rescued fish(looks like an off bred guppy but not sure) 6 neon tetras and 4 salt and pepper corydoras. They are all very active. They are fed 1 time a day as well as they eat the plants. Sand substrate. Any recommendations for improvement? Overstocked? Thank you I love you channel!

I "micro dose" with salt. I use it to add minerals and the good stuff fish need, but I only do a tablespoon for my 30 gallon, 1/2 tablespoon for my 20 gallon, and a pinch for my nano planted tanks. Since doing so I do notice a difference in my fish. I think salt is great preventive care. I'll say it like this, I've never had a sick fish, but my husband who doesn't use salt has. He's dealt with ich, hole in the head, dropsy, fungal infections, and I have not.

Great video. I agree , salt does heal minor nibs and prevent infection. In my tank I have 3 guppies and 3 glo tetra , one tetra is a bully and constantly attacking playful guppies. Few days ago I see a tear on one of my guppy like she has two tails, I put salt in it and separated bully glo out from the rest of the fish and guppy healed his tail back to normal. Now here in Canada they don’t take fish back due to COViD and I am not going to let fish free anywhere so I had to invest in another aquarium to keep glo fish separately from guppy aquarium until I figure out how to keep harmony in between as I can afford only one aquarium tank

I bought a small box of Morton Kosher salt the other day. I was getting ready to put some in my tank when I saw on the label that "this salt contained anti caking ingredients". So I went to their website and sure enough their Kosher salt contains some anti caking agents. What I found interesting was the warning on the website that if it's used underwater it can affect plants negatively though they didn't mention aquariums specifically. So my local Petco is unbelievably out of aquarium salt so I ordered some through the big box store and purchased one of those Lee's small plastic hang on the aquarium convalescent tanks while I was at it. Anyway I've kept aquariums and fish for 30 years and I've always added a small amount of aquarium salt to them. I never had any sick fish and in fact they died from old age and I've always felt the addition of aquarium salt was part of the reason why...

if i am at the pet store and remember to buy the salt it is like the bigger pieces .. i take a Table spoon of salt put it in a half cup of very hot water to dissolve it set it aside until i clean the tank .. but my tank is 29 gal . so i don't need to move the monster hoses out . ! once i get the tank cleaned plastic plants work best for me . i have to fill a bucket up and take it to the tank , carefully add water and salt mixture . repeat adding water until your tank is full . if you take 3 buckets out you put 3 buckets in . i don't put salt in every time only if one of my fish are not acting right . i f that doesn't help i put her in a separate tank sometimes it is just stress . i do a partial change on the 29 gal to get some of the salt out . i pay a lot of attention to the one fish to make sure there is no disease .. if after 2 weeks if she is better i put her back in the 29. gal she mixes right in with them . a lot of work but i love my fish !

I have been using salt to treat Ich. In my experience salt is the best treatment for Ich. I have used 5 gram per litre of water as a continuous bath for 10 days for Ich. All tropical fishes that I have kept tolerate it well and once Ich is gone do water changes to get rid of the salt.

I use rock salt and I haven't seen my fish sick for a long time. Before, my fish used to die due to ich or parasites but because of the salt, its not my concern anymore.

I've treated many conditions with just salt. I believe it only works when you catch the fungus, bacteria, parasites or ich quickly.

Good morning John and Lisa!!! I have a question. When you guys talk about House of Tropicals is that the one in Glen Burnie MD. I ask because thats my local fish store. Mr. Jean is an amazing guy and the staff has been the same for over a decade with very few changes.. I recently just got back into the hobby with a 110g that has a "Shovelnose Redtail Catfish" its his temporary home, I plan to build a 2000+ gallon..

So would this suggest adding it in every other water change to keep the fishes health up orrr? He mentioned removing it through water changes so I felt unclear on how often/situations to use salt

Hello guys. Thank you for amazing video but still have some questions. 1. Can I use salt for everyday or just for treatment. 2 can I add salt in planted aquarium with fish.

Yes and no haha. I’m adding right now to help my orandas with ich plus ich-x, but small amounts as I have plants. But I agree it’s a must have

I have a 30gal. And a few plants how much would you cut that 1/4 cup
@adalberto.valdez
@adalberto.valdez 3 года назад
@@jg7589 I’d do a tablespoon or half. I did a tablespoon for my 40g, as I figured a little was better than nothing. All my tanks are planted, so I go with less to be on the safe side, but still add some

I use it in quarantine tank but not in my planted tanks! I keep two types of salt on hand for my fish one is aquarium salt and the other is epsom salt. Epsom for salt baths for a sick betta who had serious swim bladder issues. The epsom salt worked wonders for her. (There are places on line where you can look up dosages for both baths) It took the poor girl 2 months to be able to fully swim again but she did survive and is thriving. So I have to agree there are definitely situations where salt is great for your fish.

Epson salt is magnesium sulfate. Does wonders for vegetable plants too.

@@jeffereyhopkins750 Yeah it’s great way to add magnesium for aquatic plants I hear. Just gotta be care and add a little at a time to not shock more sensitive plants like crypts.

@@L3TITBE, Daily baths, no more than two. I fed her once per day, but small amounts. 1 TBS epsome salt per gallon of water.

Aquarium salts do differ from your regular table salt because they have more trace minerals and salts than just NaCl (albeit in very small amounts) that are also important for fish health. If you want to just use a supermarket salt, make sure it is the larger grain/chunks of lake salt or sea salt, and not your usual shaker, more purified salt. The non-purified lake/sea salt is also better for humans too btw.
