Something tells me that the sibling who wants back their $6k isn't being a squeaky wheel for no reason. He doubled his income and thinks it's an inconvenience to not party with his friends. What I hear is that he's doubled his income AND his partying, probably gloating about it while not repaying his siblings a cent "because he doesn't want to pay the bank charges on a wire transfer" and he "wants to be able to pay the full debt at once". Meanwhile his social media selfies showing himself living the "good" life while not paying them back anything has probably gotten to them.

When I was young (around 12 or so), my uncle handed me a $100 bill. As a 12 year old in 1987, I was super excited. He then said "ok...TRY to drop it." So I dropped it on the table because I "tried" to drop it. He picked it up and said "thanks for giving me my money back." I was hurt. The excitement went away..."What is going on?" He then handed the $100 bill back to me and repeated, "TRY to drop it." So I "tried" to drop it but this time, I didn't let it go. I just made the movements as if I was "trying" to drop it. He then proceeded to teach me a lesson. YOU CAN'T TRY TO DO ANYTHING!!! Either you DO IT or you DON'T. When this guy said, I'll "Try" not to go out to eat, I laughed so hard because by "trying," you are literally leaving $100 bills on the table! This is why I believe family and finance should be kept separate. And I would even extend this practice to my close friends. IF (!!) you have to borrow money, better go to an evil bank. There have been plenty of family relationships gone south because of financial issues.

@mathisnotforthefaintofheart
@mathisnotforthefaintofheart 2 года назад
@@edhcb9359 Ok, a little nuance here. A bank is there to do business, I get it. They don't care about you personally. I have seen more than once that even if a client needs a little "wiggle" room to make payments, some banks are as hard as a rock and will make the client go through deep sh!t. Banks have this attitude to be very indifferent, if not outright destructive to some people who have ended up in financial trouble not to their own fault, in particular people of color and minorities. 2008 is a classic example. I am sorry to say, but I find a banks very little to do with morality and humanity these days. Why do you think Ramsey doesn't like banks and their loans? But borrowing money from your family is a NO because you can't really separate yourself from family if things go wrong. It hurts both parties.
@GardenerEarthGuy

When loaning money- the need to cut off fingers with hand pruners is something to consider. It's better not to deal with family and friends this way. I would say the best rule of thumb for lending money to family members is don't "lend it" unless you anticipate not getting it back. Count it as spent.

I wonder what this guy would do when a family member comes to him asking to borrow money. He needs to pay back with at least a little interest …on his own volition. People make up so much stuff about other peoples money situation like…she doesn’t really need her money back etc So rude.

You are exactly why I don't loan money. You owe them but don't really want to pay them. But when you needed the money they loaned it to you. Now that you doubled you salary, you find it difficult to pay.

Anyone who would use the excuse that "wiring fees" are too expensive to make regular payments to a sibling that loaned him money in a time of need is a d-bag. Instead, he wants to figure out a way to pay it in a lump sum, which will never happen because he is pissing away the raise he got that doubled his income by spending it in clubs, restaurants, and other forms of entertainment.

Dave is WRONG this time. They "need" and expect their money back, or they would not have asked for it. They do not owe him a reason or explanation. What a pompous guy to judge their reasons or status. Pay family FIRST, today. Don't feel sorry for yourself if your siblings don't even "try" to act like they like or respect you anymore, they are not that stupid. I'd "try" to remember to invite you to Thanksgiving dinner, but don't hold your breath, you don't need it, you can just keep going out to eat.

honestly Dave has a great idea and has millions paid off their debts quickly. call them, make a plan, and stick to it. both sides made a mistake not setting up a plan. Him starting this will go a long way. if the siblings are stupid enough to sue. idk about international loans but in the US if there is no proof and he claims it was a gift. he doesn't owe anybody anything

My wife and I have a rule - we don't loan or borrow anything to family, friends, church members. If someone needs help, we go with our equipment and we help. And if we need a loan, we go to the bank. The two times I broke that rule, I had to go the extra mile to make sure family relations were good, even though we were taken advantage of.

Doesn't sound like caller has done a budget to know exactly what he can put on his debt monthly. I would work out on a spreadsheet exactly when each thing is going to pay off, listing smallest to largest. And that includes a reasonable monthly payment to the sibling that is owed the 24k. They may not be "squeaking" about it, but it could easily build resentment between the two siblings if one is getting a monthly payment and the other isn't.
