EDIT: I didn't realise people would connect my thumbnail to Jaiden's own video about her insecurities. I wasn't being sneaky/malicious, I was messaging her as I was drawing the thumbnail so I was like 'pssht why not?' and drew her to simulate a sketch in my book. Gosh. I was learning to sing, and looking at The Voice, AGT etc. gave me such sadness, that they were so young and so much more talented, meanwhile i couldn't go beyond 2.5 octaves. Singing used to make me happy, but seeing others be so much better, i never thought i could do anything and gave it up too... This is way too relatable

When you talked about looking at people younger than you, or people that learn faster than you and compared yourself to them, that hit me hard, I love art so much, I'm 16 and a lot of my favorite artists in the same community as me are 15-18 and seem miles ahead of me in skill, it made me really sad to see how many hours I put in to get seemingly endlessly less improvement out of it, and so few followers or likes on the art I was super proud of, but I know that everyone is different, and that no matter what I want to keep doing art and find my own voice and community that I can share what I love with in the future, cause art is the only thing that I really love and am passionate about

I actually really needed this right now. I recently started sharing my art via Instagram, and my cousin who also does art really helped me get going by encouraging her followers to follow me. I'm now in a group chat with her and some other artists that are super supportive and friendly, but they're also... so much better than me. Like my cousin can do a quick character sketch in under a minute and it looks amazing, whereas it would take me at least twenty minutes just to get the rough linework done for something similar. Another artist does these gorgeous backgrounds that she can easily adjust to different perspectives and times of day. Another can animate so smoothly and effortlessly. I always kinda assumed that I just didn't see the work that other artists put into their art, but now... it doesn't feel like I have anything to contribute to the group project we're working on because anything I can do, one of them can do better. I'm having a hard time not comparing myself, but it's getting to the point where I can rarely think of something I even want to draw anymore. I don't want to lose this part of me, so I've gotta find a way to keep it. I'm not gonna give up. Thanks for rekindling my fire.

Tbh I stopped drawing back in high school because my parents were going through a separation and I thought my art wasn’t as good as it could be too. Watching this has made me feel motivated to pick the pen up again and work towards making art part of my career and success. Thank you for this 🙏🏼

I can relate to this so much because after my teacher from last year basically say I’m not worthy of being in advanced art and said my art was to cartoony which broke me which made me stop but eventually keep going but even stronger but now... every time I see my art I see it looks worse then what I was capable of which still breaks me to this day but I won’t give up

When I got on DeviantArt, I felt at home I legit could not see myself as an artist for so long, I graduated in Computer Animation and STILL didn't consider myself "good" at art. I actually improved a ton after I believed in myself and thought of my own art as my art

I'll tell you something a teacher once told me: "Some people are born with 'talent', they start at a 5 on a scale from 1 to 10. If you think you don't have talent, maybe you are starting as a 1. But you know what? Without determination the 'talented' person will be stuck as a 5 forever, while you, if you work hard enough, might end up being the 10. And then is when you will see who really had talent."

Dayum. This just got too real. I have been there Maaz. I stopped for 3 years of making art before because of that same reasons that you mentioned. I feel you, and its great that you're gradually taking little steps to get back to the wonderful world of drawing. Keep it up! I'll always support you P.S. This video made me feel better. I've been really difficult on my art style because I draw characters well when I see a photo in that artist's style, but terrible in my own. I've tried experimenting with my style and I just don't feel happy with it right now. Thank you Maaz for this video it made me feel a lot better about my current artist slump. I love how this video was made! I can relate a lot to this since I'm a beginner artist as well and I do have days where I'm just down about my art but I learned that it's ok to have mistakes and I just have to improve them (still a lil insecure about it though). Instead of always looking into the future of what we, as artists, want to become, we just have to live the moment. Hopefully this helps out as much artists as possible!

This aMazzing video helped me a LOT! Recently (like 2 months ago), I got into art, just like my cousin. I was super confident and pleased! However, a few days ago, he came over with his sketchbook to draw together. (He also showed me some art he made and it was BRILLIANT, better than everything I've ever made) It seemed like a nice idea. When it was my turn to decide on the drawing theme, I happily chose the OC of an animator (sorry, it wasn't you :( ) I did it lots of times and I was confident. When I saw his drawing, though, my heart shattered. He did it WAY BETTER on his first attempt. To make matters worse, he drew the OC using some random lines he drew with his eyes closed. I obviously congratulated him, because it was really nice! One part of me was super happy for him. Still, a part of my heart broke. However, I remembered your video and felt way better. Thank you a lot! :) If this video wasn't around, I would've probably left art, not gonna lie. :(

That internal voice is louder and more treacherous than any external voice. Definitely had to work through my own struggles with having convinced myself that I'm a failure. I still do, but with age I've been able to learn to face it head on. Glad you made it where you are, the terrible stuff you post is pretty awesome, and I'm working on being able to make stuff that's just as awesome.

Damn, this is real. By the end of college, I didn't even want work on my senior project for fear of failing and letting myself down, which is exactly what I ended up doing to myself. Your video cheered me up a bit. Months later and I'm actually opening C4D again so thank you.

This video was honestly really validating because I did the same thing you did!!! I gave up on art for four years after high school because I was stuck comparing myself to other people and being so unbelievably hard on myself. I finally started drawing again back in April and honestly!!! It’s been really hard, because I look at those four years I lost and I feel horrible, like I should be better. But I’m trying really hard to work past those feelings and keep drawing anyways, because it’s a part of me and it’s important to me. Thank you for making this video, it makes me feel like I’m not alone. And I really like your videos and your art!!!

I really enjoyed this video. I know that I'm not good at drawing, and it makes it really hard to be to practice when I know going in that the result won't be good. It really sucks when your friends are drawing gods because even when you're proud of a piece you know it can't compare with their work. I haven't drawn in awhile, but this vid has inspired me to pick up the sketchbook again. I'm not as good as my friends, but that's not changing by quitting. The only way to get better is by pushing through the insecurities and anxieties. Thank you

Honestly Maz, I feel this way more than ever in this pandemic... I doubt my art skills almost every day, and it sucks, I’ve wanted to quit so many times, thinking I’m not good enough, but I also remind myself that I have friends that support my art and want me to go big, so one suggestion is to challenge yourself and stick to what you love!

Your story is like, the same as mine. Only my head was bigger and I thought I was -final boss- material until I went to art school and got knocked off my paper pedestal. Ungracefully. I was basically coughing up dirt for 4 years straight, lol. I peaked by graduation, but then I just stopped. Life I guess. Then I spent the next 10 years doing absolutely nothing until the sadness/regret/stagnation became *SO MUCH*, I started sketching a little again. I'm 30 yrs old now, stuck in the cringy OC phase I left off at in my early 20's but it's something. I had to let go of wanting to be the best there ever was before I could enjoy my rusty art again. Still trying to find my WHY but I don't let that intimidate me as much these days. Thanks for being so relatable.

You just need to be patient with yourself. I used to be so envious of other artists who were younger but so much better than me. In a perfect world, envy should be used a tool for you to really look back at your work and see what's missing from it. Then you will improve. It takes time, (Sooooooo much time) but it's worth it when you get that full picture in your head on the paper.

I went through the same path(not going to art school but yet drawing for years improving way too slowly compared to other) so i decided to go to art school in september for 3 years, at the age of 28. Feel ya bro, your animations and your skill for youtube is up to the roof you have nothing to worry, dont hate yourself😉

Everyone improves at their own pace, so don’t spend too much time looking at other people and how fast they improve. Something that really helps for me when I don’t think my art is good enough is I look at some art from like two years ago and see how much I’ve improved. I hope this comment could help you.

I fully relate to this.... my friends also got art class while I have to work on something I could never do. I almost cried every night. I knew that they would improve 1000 times faster than me. I’m gonna not give up yet! I believe I can improve still because maybe my art doesn’t need a teacher because I am my own teacher.

Failing as an artist - #relatable

This made me cry…I am constantly bashing myself and my own ability. I see so many talented artists and animators and feel defeated. But I have set a new fire under my ass, and I’ll be trying again. I’ll never forget the pure excitement I felt when I got to see something come to life that I made when I did my small animation for Jesse Cox. And now that life isnt so chaotic, I need to feel that pure love again. Thank you for sharing. Seeing how much you have improved in so many ways in your videos is truly inspiring!

Maaz i get you.... i was the same, i've always enjoyed drawing but I never found my own style, this lead me to believe that i wasn't good enough even when people told me i was good, I saw all this amazing artist just making even more amazing drawings, I also put myself down by following that belief, i still draw but its not with the same passion it used to be... if anyone is reading this don't make the same mistake if you believe you are not good enough... YOU ARE... seek advice from others in how you can improve, hell even ask them if they can show you how to improve... I now realize what the biggest obstacle is YOUR SELF-DOUBT. but I Believe in You if you need someone to do so even when people try to put you down.

So I just turned 12 in May, and I love to draw as my favorite hobby. I have a cartoonish style like you and I prefer to draw people. My friends and classmates are constantly commenting on how amazing my art is and asking for drawings. After this summer is my first year of middle school and I am also taking art as my number one elective. Even after all the compliments I have still felt super upset about my skill level and thinking that I just wasn't good enough, I am the worst at art and everything like that. Art really feels like a big chore now that I do and now that I started I dont have a choice to stop. I dont want to stop though and from this video I learned to embrace it and do I REALLY CARE if I really do stink at art? Nope. It's fun and that's all that matters, it's what I enjoy doing. I relate, man. I can evaluate criticism. I know that some people just hate me for no reason, or don't understand my goals, and I block them out. Trouble is, I always listen to myself. And part of me is REALLY chatty about how bad I supposedly am.
