Humans used to gather around campfires and fear what was out in the dark because we just knew, something was out there waiting for us. Over time, with our technology getting better and the invention of villages, to towns, to cities, we tend to think nothing else is left out there. But really, theres alot of wilderness, and alot of things that still cant be explained to this day.
Thank you for watching watching Roanoke Tales and I hope you enjoy I'm a Search and Rescue Officer for the US Forest Service, I Have Some Stories to Tell | Creepypasta

I just came here to say, I got lost in the woods once when I was three and fell into a deep pit. I don't know how to find the first responder who saved me but I am forever grateful. He was so brave and strong and seeing him was the best moment of my life. Thank you so much guy ♥

This has got to be THE best story on your channel. It's just so NOT tropey, and almost feels like an actual report of events and not an embellished story. I actually found myself being scared or shocked more in this story than other stories (For example, when a dude loses a hand while on the stairs, later a hand is found inside a tree fused to the wood, my jaw actually dropped), and it didn't need to go into a huge amount of detail on those things to do so. Also, it's so mysterious and leaves so much to the reader's imagination as to what the nature of all this could be. 10/10

A reasonable, non-spooky reason to not climb those weird, free-standing stairs in the woods is that, considering they're free-standing with nothing bracing them at the top or below, is the risk that they'll collapse under your weight and you'll get hurt.

I say this on every video about the stairs. They do exist, whether or not they're actually supernatural is another thing entirely. A lot of towns, mansions etc are lost to time and history, and stairs tend to be well supported and made of sterner stuff than most things that would be built around them. That said the couple times I've seen them, has been where no current map marks a former settlement or estate. And the only "supernatural" occurrence I've seen is when an old metal set just happened to collapse when I was looking it over from a distance, as if it had just been waiting for anyone, anything to be there when it finally gave out. I'm a skeptic at heart, but there is weird shit out there. It just doesn't have to be supernatural in origin.

I've seen them too. Though they were old and rotted out and I kind of assumed they were part of an old cabin or lookout tower or something, but there was NOTHING immediately around them but trees. There's a lot of weird shit out in the middle of nowhere though. I've come across an old 1800's graveyard with mostly wooden markers, including ones that just said "Baby ____" with a last name, child died before they were named. Also ran across a concrete block with a metal cover. The top was flush with the ground, very old and weathered and rusted, it looked like a maintenance access to a water main, and taking the lid off of it it was just an empty cube with nothing but some dirt at the bottom, could see some of the concrete floor in patches, nothing weird, no smell, just a random, hollow, concrete cube, no conduits or pipes or anything probably 50+ miles from any towns. Also happened across an old dilapidated mansion of sorts, it was up on top of a huge rock outcropping and basically inaccessible without climbing gear, no roads to it, there was a bridge across a river right next to it that had mostly rotted out and wasn't really traversable. I was on the other side of the river so I didn't have any means to get to it with the existing one rotted out. It was in a little 'elbow' of the river that let you get a decent look of all sides of it. Super weird. Maybe I should go back out there sometime and see if it's still there but that was over 20 years ago and I doubt I could remember where it was if I wanted to.

I'm not a skeptic and I've personally had numerous supernatural experiences. But those stairs are not real and the writer admitted he made them up. Maybe he was inspired by real cases of non-supernatural stairs as it would be eerie to come across.

My family is German and Polish and I used to live in both countries, and the places would always be surrounded by vast ancient woods. I mean miles and miles and miles of very old forests and when going hiking with friends we would often come across two things, the forgotten stairs in the middle of nowhere, I mean 20km to 30km away from any village deep in the forest. And once when I was by myself came across a single old dead oak that was surrounded by a large circle of dead grass around it. It was very bizarre because the moment you stepped into the area sunny weather would turn cloudy and all birds would stop singing. Remembering it always gives me shivers.

Funnily enough, there is actually a phenomenon similar to one of the last stories where the guy sees a faceless man, then a split second later the guy looks normal.It's because your brain uses predictions to fill in the gaps of what you aren't looking at, and if you look suddenly at something before your brain can make the predictions, you just draw a blank. This can briefly do things ranging from "Not seeing colors" to "Where is that guy's face?"
@xSwordLilyx

That's what it is, I used to go out into the woods a lot, the area used to be an old mining town, some of the few things that stay.. those stairs, concrete, wood, they're there. You'd be surprised how quickly nature takes the area back, literally within my father's lifetime, less than 50 years I'd estimate, the area existed when he was a kid.. now it's woods, a random church in the middle of "nowhere" it wasn't nowhere, it was surrounded and lined along the road with buildings. The church was the only thing that was taken care of, after the mines dried up, most left.

The stairs are probably the most familiar to me. I’ve found parts of old houses in the forest on hunting trips with my dad. Pieces of old stone walls mostly, but I did find one set of small stone stairs. Just three or four steps, like the kind that lead up to a porch or a doorway. Found a lot of old hunting blinds too. Little one or two person sheds made from wood and camouflaged with branches, paint, and leaves

For me forests were a place I liked to explore or camp with friends, but the latter changed when I encountered a weird "phenomenon". I met with my friend as always and we went to closest survival shop in town to buy some necessities we run out on last time. everything was great, we walked to the forest, explored it a bit and I could take a few beautiful shots of regrowing forest after being set afire. After it got dark we already had our camp set up (only sleeping bags with no tents), we opened a few bears, talked about nothing and went to sleep. that's when things started to feel weird. My friend was asleep all the time, or at least it looked like it, but I woken up somewhere in the middle of the night. The campfire already burned out and there was this full moon shining so much you could see as it was a day almost. I was laying, trying to fall asleep again while all of the nature was performing it's song. Bugs were very loud, buzzing and ticking, there was this pack of deer near our campsite, so it was kind of busy. And then after some time, maybe 10 to 20 minutes I can't really tell, everything went deadly silent, in one moment every single creature stopped making any sounds. I couldn't hear a single thing, suddenly it became cold (it was in mid summer so yeah) and so silent that I could hear my heart beating, I don't know why because I'm not so easily stressed person, but my heartbeat was starting to increase. I closed my eyes and began calming myself until I barely could hear my heartbeat, and I swear I couldn't fall asleep no matter what. My mind was on alert mode all the freakin time and then I heard branches crack over footsteps. It surely wasn't a deer, neither a boar and other large animals don't live in this part of my country, I heard it come to the border of our campsite and stopped, just standing there. I was too afraid to check it up and just hoped that it will go away, but after a while (which was eternity at that point for me) all the sounds came back, and I heard the deer pack still nearby. After checking out all the surroundings after sounds came back I found nothing to be standing any near our campsite, it was just gone. On a side note, I think my friend was awake just like me, because he didn't even moved a muscle while all this was happening, and right after it ended he seemed more relaxed and changing sides as he always does.

Jokes aside, you're heart was beating how it was and u was very alert cuz the oldest part of ur brain evolutionarily (sometimes called the lizard brain) detected a possible threat, so it kept you up so that you could run or fight if need be. Maybe ur brain subconsciously saw what you consciously didn't see. Did u feel like u had got off an adrenaline rush after it went away? It was some sort of predator based on the animal's and bug's reaction (going quiet then starting up again).

The concept and idea of living in a small town surrounded by woods is pretty and comfy, but experiencing it is different-atleast for me who has lived in a city the whole time. I remember going to Illinois to my grandmas house a few times, but it was only later on that there were moments where I would feel this uncomfy anxiety before brushing it off. I’m guessing it’s because of the thick woods and you don’t have a clear line of sight. But you wouldn’t catch me dead in there alone. You also realize just how dark it gets out there too. It’s so terrifying to be in a house (with no curtains what so ever. Just, why?) and all you have are portals of darkness around you with who knows what standing just a few feet away on the other side. I guess it ties into my fear of large bodies of water I can’t see through. The fear of the unknown predators lurking within.

I live out in the bush, all the stuff that's there during the day is what's there at night. The fear is inside you, it's nothing to do with what's around, once you get over it, it's pretty nice out at night. Cities at night are probably way more dangerous. It's mainly other people you need to take care of.

@therasco400
@therasco400 Год назад
@@babyblue_22 No, I did not know. I too listened to most of it and thought it was real. The thing is that nothing in them sounds that odd. I mean the child that fell and hit its head with the mother being in complete denial that the child is dead could 100% be real. The stairs in the middle of nowhere could also be possible, a triangle is really really strong so them being the last part of some frontiers man home is possible. The loop of children crying is possible as well as there where toys in the 80's that would record sound then loop play it.

These stories are great, but on a serious note. Until you have truly heard the blood curdling scream of a cougar/mountain lion you’ll never understand. I live in a small rural town of 3,357 people. We are in southeast Missouri. We don’t typically get cougars or mountain lions this way because it’s all farm and swamp land not any huge mountain ranges or hills for that matter. We had a mountain lion spring up about three years ago now. A farmer outside of town had his livestock sheep and goats mainly getting mailed throughout the night for a few weeks. The farmer told the other people in town and the story spread I was either 19 or 20 at the time that it had popped up and I will never forget riding around on the levees and dirt roads outside of town. The scream that echoed through out the dark desolate landscape I will never forget. It sounds like a young woman screaming bloody murder. The cougar would yowl for minutes at a time before it would cease. The game wardens and state rangers event caught and removed the cougar but for those short weeks that it was here in the heartland it sent chills and fear through the community. This is truly a real event and I pray that none of you ever come close enough to hear that scream.

So I'm about 40 minutes in, and as someone who grew up in the Northwoods where this Ranger is obviously located, it is very clear that a number of these stories are related. The Dark Eyed Man following the woman through the forest, the man's walking stick stuck 30ft up in the tree, the missing boy's body found halfway up a sheer cliff, the strange man meowing in the woods, that fact that "most animals don't come around here," and most especially the sound of the crying girl that almost seemed like it was looping. I know what that is. Each one of those stories was caused by the same thing. Honestly, y'all ought to close those trails; the disappearances aren't going to stop so long as they're open. Bit of advice for anyone reading this; curiosity killed the cat and it'll kill you too if you take chances in the woods. Your "gut feeling" is thousands of years of survival instinct telling you the right thing to do, so trust it. Stay on the trails, get back to your vehicle before the sun sets, and whatever you do, don't EVER try to find the source of strange noise. If it sounds like a person but you're not quite sure, Get Away As Fast As Possible. Edit from 1h 40m in: There's a quote out there that I'll paraphrase as "Don't assume someone's acting out of evil intent when them being stupid is just as likely," but there's another quote that goes "At a certain point, stupidity and willful ignorance are just the same as evil intent." This park, wherever the fuck it is, NEEDS to be shut down because not only does it have the above creature (which they STUPIDLY name in the video), it's also full of fucking Fairy Circles. That's where all the kids keep going. I'm DUMBFOUNDED how they can know it's full of this crap and yet keep the trails open. Hey you reading this, do yourself a favor, assume all these stories are true because based on my experience more than half of them are, and use that knowledge to make good life choices if you ever go hiking or camping. Don't be like this Forest Service and "compartmentalize" the weird shit, because that's how innocent people walk blindly into this stuff.

@@johnwaggner9143 it’s linked to real life events is what makes it convincing, you portraying the park service as treating people like walking sacrifices is what ridiculous, it even says in the story these events are rare. What you gonna ban sailing cause 50 boats go missing a year? It’s called the wilderness for a reason, just cause we don’t understand it doesn’t me it should be fenced of and guarded.
@johnwaggner9143
@johnwaggner9143 Год назад
@@darkstonefire Ok, so I see the confusion. Yes, the wilderness is naturally a dangerous and uncertain place, all kinds of accidents can happen. That's the whole reason we have organizations like the park service and the coast guard, who survey these areas and are both equipped and capable of rescuing people in case of an accident. However, they are ALSO responsible for identifying and mitigating potential hazards in the areas they survey. That's why trails are closed frequently for rock or mudslides; the conditions have been deemed too unsafe in the current conditions to allow people to use the trail until things improve. If they IDENTIFY a hazard and then fail to either notify people or close the affected trails, that's negligence. 50 boats going missing a year a tragedy, but 50 boats being found wrecked by 1 particular whirlpool that the coast guard knows about but did not notifying ships in the area of is a crime. There is clear evidence of a dangerous creature in the area, hunting and killing people on the trails. In ANY situation where the park service finds evidence of a death due to an animal attack, the proper procedure is to close the trail, locate the animal's den, and then alter the course of the trail to avoid its territory to lower the risk of this happening again, or at the VERY least notify people of a deadly animal in the area. If they aren't doing that, it's 100% willful negligence. And what I'M saying is that the attacks and scenarios they're describing are not unique, that shit really does happen and y'all need to understand it.
