I'm a self-taught, insecure artist. And I tried painting my biggest painting yet (spoiler: I failed)

Hello traveler of worlds!
This is an art vlog showing my attempt to paint my biggest painting yet (and failing at that haha kind of.)
I hope you enjoy the video though. Let me know if you'd like to see more project videos in a similar manner :)
If you happen to find yourself in a similar situation; feeling insecure and stuck with a creative project - the only advice I can give is to keep going. Please don't stop until you're finished, no matter how bad you think it is. As long as you do your best the creation will become exactly as it's meant to at this point in time. You got this!
I see you all again next week. Thank you so much for being here and for joining me on this healing and creative journey.
I send you all my love and light, always!
- Frederike

I'm kind of lost for words, because a few minutes ago, I was lying alone on my couch, overwhelmed by the sadness of losing my grandma once again...and then I decided to watch your video and see you grieving for the same reason ❤️ and I cried with you. I try to process that grief through video creation at the very moment, but it is so so hard...Sending you much love and a big hug ❤️ your drone shots are gorgeous, so is the painting! Your dogs are the cutest and I admire how candidly you are able to talk to the camera 🥰

My goodness, I read this message yesterday and felt the hurt. Both from you and what it evoked in me to know that you're going through the same process. No wonder your videos feel so authentic, pure and emotional. As does your art. I send you ALL my love, healing hugs and energies. And I truly appreciate you writing to me❤

No way, that is absolutely beautiful! What a beautiful painting. Not only is it a masterpiece, but the effort, thinking, and EVERYTHING that went into it is absolutely LOVE. I'm so glad you did not give up! Everything paid off. I'm so happy for you. And the process of this whole journey has taught you valuable lessons, one of which is yes, to believe in yourself! I love that. I enjoyed this video wholeheartedly. Not only did you make a beautiful painting, but the video was breathtaking as well. All the transitions, music, the imagery, wow! No words. I'm just gonna end it with - thank you for sharing Frederike hehe

I don't know how I found myself here. But even though I was (am) so tired and needing to go to bed, I found myself so emotionally invested and wanting to see how it all worked out for you. And it did! It's beautiful! I love trees, especially twisty ones. This is magical. My heart went out to you as well for the loss of your grandmother. I just marked 1 year since my mother died. It's so hard. Thank you for sharing the journey. I am glad you pushed through. I used to draw/paint/do calligraphy in high school, many years ago. I don't remember how to do ANY of it. But I remember these types of struggles. One thing you have to learn to do is separate yourself from your art. It is done by you. It's part of you. But it is not you. You do the best you can and you give it to God. If you make it the measure of who you are, it will continue to make you sick and miserable. Anyway, all the best to you!

Oh wow, thank you so, so much for your words! It means the absolute world that you found me and that you enjoyed it!! My deepest condolences, love and warmest hugs to you for the loss of your mother. The pain and grief you must feel is heartbreaking to think about and I dearly hope that God finds a way to carry you through this pain. I will keep both you and her in my prayers and thoughts. I hope life shines its light on you again. And you have no idea how much your last words meant to me. They were truly an eye-opener: to think of art as something outside of myself, not something that is me or defines me. It's something I create through the light of God... Gosh, that right there brought me to tears and I've been thinking about it constantly for the last two days. What a revelation!! I'm so grateful that you stopped by and took the time to right to me. I send you all my love and light! - Frederike

I feel like I've just come off an emotional roller coaster, just from WATCHING what you went through with this project!! There's a lot to be said for the lessons I'm hoping we've all learned from your first painting, which took you months to complete and put you (and us) through the wringer. Like you said, it's good to have a plan, it's good to test out ideas on a smaller scale, and it's good to set (and stick to) a firm limit on how many new ideas we entertain as a painting progresses. I also think it's good not to put too much pressure on yourself or on one project, to encapsulate and disseminate everything you have on your mind. I'm sure your partner would have loved a small-scale still-life of a dejected Raggedy Ann doll if you had made that your project. btw, my condolences on your loss of your grandmother, which may have contributed to the pressure you felt during this project. The whole time you were lamenting how little white you had left, I was thinking about how you were surrounded by white outside. You speak a ton of really nuanced English, and you express yourself really well in what I take it is not your first language. While the first painting seemed to trip over its own overlapping symbolism, I think the final painting turned out well, and works well to represent the triumph of the human spirit.

This is one heartwarming and inspiring comment, thank you so much for taking the time to write this to me!! You're absolutely right, it's good to not put too much pressure on a specific piece. That's one thing I really want to learn: to know when to continue and push through, and when to allow myself to move on and trying something else. Finding that balance of joy, professionalism, perseverance and acceptance. I also appreciate the kind words about my English. It's indeed not my first language, Norwegian is. But I love speaking, writing and doing everything in English hahaha I'm truly grateful that you visited me and wrote me all this. Sending you all my best wishes and have a wonderful rest of the weekend!

@@ATravelerOfWorlds I'm really glad my comment spoke to you the way I was hoping it would. I came so close to editing it down to two or three short sentences. In light of your response, I'd like to add some thoughts. 1. You may want to look at using something like Procreate for testing out complex design ideas. 2. Outside of art we use the term "scope creep" for when a project goes off the rails because the planners keep piling on ideas. In meetings we say "avoid scope creep" as a handy reminder not to do that, which I think would work for art projects too. 3. A Norwegian chef named Andreas Viestad hosted an English language cooking show from Norway which still airs in the US, and in it he mispronounced "thyme" by following the "T-H" rule like with "thing" or "thumb". "Thyme" is an exception to that rule - It should sound exactly like "time". Please spread the word. :)

For some reason YT held this last comment of yours for review so I never received (until now when I checked the review thing lol) I'm happy that you didn't edit your comment down bc this reads so authentically. Not everything needs to be so heavily edited all the time so I'm grateful that you didn't do it with this one. And I'll remember scope creep hahahah never heard of that but I'll definitely remember it now! It fits this project perfectly. I'll also remember Thyme being pronounced time (I realize now that I've pronounced it wrong all my life then 😂)And I will from now on spread the word! Thanks so much for your kindness and insights @@DQ_ArtGroupie

Perseverance is such a 'great gift' but you managed it and look how awesome your painting became ! Yes painting is often a battle to beat and of course it can be 'stressy', tiring and scary because each brushstroke is a decision to take , a risk ,but imagine If it happened automatically, the challenge would be gone and it would become boring or it would become "assembly line work" and thàt's not what we creative minds are looking for (pinky eye .. my emoticons refuse to work ) , be patient and gentle with yourself and everything will come as you want . A little preparation is helpful but the magic will happen on the canvas. What helps me when I am stuck or not sure , I take a picture from the painting , print a few numbers (or you can do it digital) and work on it so it feels a little less pressure ....and keep in mind that not every painting or artwork needs to be (or can be) a Masterpiece . Enjoy the process , you have plenty of time ... Btw what a beautiful landscape even I can imagine the snow maybe will not always be glitter and glamour ohhh and you have two lovely assitants ! Relax and have pleasure with your next project ! Looking forward to see what you are up to .

Ohhh I absolutely love that perspective: that we should embrace the decision-making and thought process of painting, otherwise it would become an automated something, taking away the creative aspect of it. Which again would ruin the entire purpose of creating in the first place haha I'll definitely keep this in mind, thank you!! I'll also keep your suggestion in mind to work on several versions before continuing the painting itself. That might actually take some of the stress away. I truly appreciate you stopping by and sharing your wisdom with me. It's very helpful. Have a splendid day!!

This was such a beautiful and inspirational video again. And the painting turned out wonderful after all the struggle. It's quite funny how our ego tries to make us so small and constantly makes us doubt ourselves in order to keep us safe in that comfort of the known. And until we learn that those thoughts are not really who we are, we are often stuck in the loop of darkness and low self worth. Fortunately, you kept going and had faith in yourself and your skills and you succeeded. Great work. Have an amazing day :)
