There is all sorts of instruction and help available online, I'm sure even for free on RU-vid!

There is indeed!! Sometimes it's just hard to find what works for you. But I'll keep searching and practicing, and I have faith God will guide me where I need to go. I appreciate your comments so much! I hope you're doing well.

Oh dear, you have no idea how teary your video made me. As a self taught artist your words speak so deeply to me. I can only imagine the greatness I could have achieved should I have been taught art in an academic way. Instead, I have been practicing alone for more than a decade continously being disappointed, frustrated and feeling incompetent and stupid. Don't be hard on yourself! Yes, you need to work on your portraits but your waves are superb!! So much so that I'm about to gesso a paper just so I can paint some waves too. Also, the more you study people the better you will get. It's a harsh path, but please don't give up! Let's become each other's support! I'd love to share my feedback with you even though I'm not a teacher but I also love portraits! Thank you for the nice video ❤

Oh my goodness, this is the most heartwarming comment I've received in a long time. Thank you so much for writing to me and for sharing your experience!! It saddens me to read that you've walked this rough road alone for a long time. I'm starting to see that if I continue on my own, it'll be a lonely artist journey in which I miss the opportunity to connect to other creatives and learn from them. So yes, I'd love to connect and support each other! Do you happen to have Discord? Or do you use any other platforms? I hope you found the time to paint some waves. And that despite the frustration and feeling of incompetence, you've found joy and fulfillment in your craft. I'm sure you create pieces worth so much admiration and acknowledgment! I'd love to see them if you'd like to share. Thank you for writing to me. It means the world and you've truly inspired me to keep going! ❤

Dear Ulrike, if it can be of any tiny comfort , even the 'schooled' artist doubts sometimes him/herself and portraits are not the easiest , it needs A LOT of practice , I am thinking which advice I can give you as there are a lot tutorials online / youtbe but you need to be able to "het kaf van het koren scheiden", if you were now in the Netherlands (or coming soon maybe) I would invite you in my studio and show you a few tips , so you are always welcome but in the meanwhile I'll look in my library and send you the info soon . Keep the courage , don't put yourself under too much pressure , enjoy the exercise , go gentle , practice small parts from the face in the meantime , eyes, ears, mouths , time enough ! Enjoy the itinerary and persevere . As a 'self-taught' artist you will keep your personality ! 😇

It is a hard road learning from books and film techniques which would take the taught a moment can take weeks for the self tought 😢 I know this road when I learnt to play the drums 🥁 (I would recommend once you feel you level of accomplishment is satisfactory to spent time with other artists on a cause ect to perfect your ability) Fabulous film as always Frederike Best wishes to your and yours 😊🙏🏼 Simon

Yes, you're absolutely right Simon! But I love your idea of perhaps uniting with other artists in the future, and learning through them. That could spark more joy than committing to many school years and I still get the opportunity to learn from others. I hope you still play the drums and find joy in that! I appreciate your comment so much Simon, it's always lovely to hear from you. Best wishes to you and your lovely family as well. - Frederike

Being an artist can be so frustrating at times. I find it especially frustrating when you spend a long time creating something and feel it's amazing, but then someone else looks at it and just describes it as 'nice.' Water is a tough thing to paint for sure. The lady in the water looks like a very neat idea - with some color it would look pretty awesome. Proper art classes seem like a good idea, but it removes the joy of actually creating to me, especially getting corrected on painting something a certain way when I wanted it like that. I am curious, but are you on DeviantArt at all? I used to post my creations there, and was in a couple of groups that would give critiques, but they could be severely harsh. It might be worth a try if you want some feedback. Hang in there and just keep creating!

Hello Donna and what a lovely comment! I apologize for answering late! I agree with you fully. It's really frustrating when you don't receive the feedback you'd hoped. Especially when you've put much time and energy into making a piece that aligns with the kind of art you want to make, yet others brush it off like 'just another painting' that is just 'nice'. And your point on art school is exactly why I don't consider applying for it either. The time I spend making art feels like a sacred thing I don't want others to put their nose into haha so then I'd rather learn a little slower but in a way that feels authentic to me. I will definitely check out DeviantArt, haven't heart of it. I'm sorry you've had a bit of a bad experience over there. People tend to forget that there are real humans with emotions behind works of art. I hope you still paint and create though, and find joy in creating the things you and you alone want to make. I appreciate your kind comments so much and I'm excited to hop over on to your channel again very soon!

Hey Frederike! Just back from a month long vacation, catching up with your video ❤ i love the cinematography in your intro. Captures the sentiment of a lonesome self taught artist ahha. I feel you!! I think the portrait turned out fantastic btw, even the one that made you itch. Chiseled jawlines ftw ❤ as a self taught myself, sometimes i wish i learnt it professionally as well. But at the same time, i cant be arsed to study all over again lol

Oh you look like a princess at 4:00!! And oh my god, your waves are absolutely gorgeous! I have to try to paint waves too haha And from my point of view, your portraits are very great. I don't know which style you want to have Frederike, but your portraits seem to be very great for fantastic-worlds I think. Stort knus, Elena

Hello my sweetest Elena! I apologize for answering you so late but know that when I read you comment, I smiled from ear to ear hahaha you always light up my day with your words! Du har et godt poeng. Jeg kan være litt for dramatisk med skyggene og ikke jevne dem ut godt nok, slik at det blir en mykere overgang fra mørkt til lyst. Takk for bra tilbakemelding. You have an artists eye!! Setter så pris på dine gode ord og din varme, det betyr så mye! Håper du lever livet og er på kreative eventyr som gjør deg glad og fulfilled. Gleder meg til å catch up to videoene dine!! Stor klem til deg også❤

I think you are too harsh on yourself. You are so talented and your drawings are amazing, but I guess we are not striving for the same level of artwork perfection. For me, making art is about joy and peace of mind. Sure, I get frustrated, but then I move on and with another drawing there's something that maybe I like. And I'm well aware that my art is not very good, but making art is exceptionally good for my mental health. But of course, if you strive for professionalism and perfectionism, there's always something to correct and improve. I wish you all the best and hope that you find the missing peace to become an even greater artist.
@ATravelerOfWorlds
@ATravelerOfWorlds 6 месяцев назад
You are the kindest, thank you so, so much for writing this to me! You say and describe your creative process in the way that I'm striving to replicate. (that is probably a weird sentence. but I hope it makes sense.) I don't want my art to be perfect or professional. I want it to be about the journey, about finding the joy and peace within, I want it to be a tool for healing and finding myself. But that's the interesting part because I somehow need to rewire and relearn to create for the sake of creating. Not showing off a finished result. My brain works in this weird way that whatever I do, it needs to be ''good'' because I don't have anything else to show for. I haven't achieved anything in life... I know this thought is wrong and self-destructive. And I'm working on it 😅 But that's why I love what you wrote - you do it because it's good for you, it heals you and brings you peace. I want nothing but that for myself as well - to let go of unobtainable perfectionism and just enjoy what I do. I truly look up to you! And let me say that I've seen every drawing you've posted on IG lately and I love all of them. You're saying your art isn't good but I don't see it this way. Your drawings have a soul to them, a unique, artistic touch I love. And to me, it's way more beautiful than to see a so-called perfect portrait where it's just like looking at a photograph. This is a very long reply, I apologize. I just wanted to say that I admire you and you inspire me. And I'm truly grateful for your comment. ☀

@@ATravelerOfWorlds Oh, Frederike, if I could, I would hug you right now to show you how much I appreciate you and your kind words and support and tell you that you’re a beautiful human being, kind and caring and very, very talented. That you are worthy because you are you. Your worth isn’t based on what you do or make or have achieved or will achieve. In my opinion, what you and me and so many other humans are doing at this point in our human history, namely heal our bodies, our minds and our souls from the traumas that have caused such deep wounds that we can’t see or are afraid to acknowledge our inner truth, is the most important job we can be doing. And by doing the inner work and understanding our pain through introspection we are not projecting even more pain, hatred and suffering on others and on the society. Living a kind, peaceful, soft and deliberate life filled with creativity and self exploration is the most powerful statement and most profound contribution to the world. And thank you also for your encouraging feedback about my creative endeavours. Truly, this past two months have been two of the best ones in my life. And hopefully I will continue learning and exploring and creating and growing. And so will you. And with each day we’ll get closer to our own truths and inner peace through making art that fills our hearts and souls with love, joy and gratitude. Have a wonderful day🩶🤗

Hello dear Frederike 💕 Thank you for sharing honestly about how you feel about your creative journey. I know it is intimidating to be vulnerable and share your inner world as well as sharing your art before you feel you have reached an outcome you are striving towards. I do not paint or draw.. but I do feel similarly about my videos lately. Filming and editing and storytelling are my artistic passion (which I must say your videos are also beautiful pieces of art! 😍) but lately I am not seeing the results I am striving for. I feel so far behind others and as if my efforts are making no progress at all.. This reminds me of something I read once. When we are In the process of a journey, it can feel like we are just going in circles from our perspective inside the circle (inside the journey). But a day will come when we look back at our journey and realize it was a spiral starting small and circling outwards and upwards (this is very hard to describe Haha! 😅 I hope this resonates if you can visualize it). All that to say~ yes! Keep going! You are making progress even when it doesn't feel that way. The key is to keep showing up ✨️ and I thank you so much for sharing because I needed this reminder today. So much to love to you and Bam and Oop! 💖💖💖

Hello my sweetest Kristen. I'm horrible at answering back these days, I apologize for my late reply! I appreciate your kind and encouraging words so much though, you have no idea. The fact that you wrote the sentence about it being intimidating to be vulnerable to share yourself before you feel ready, it shows how much our hearts align and thoughts resonate. Yes, it's so scary!! Thank you for understanding and seeing that. Let me just tell you that you're not behind. We all walk unique paths, with unique struggles, challenges and different roads. It's impossible to compare ourselves to others fairly (even though that's so hard to remember, I struggle too.) I truly believe that as long as we do our best, inwardly and outwardly - and with that I mean trying to be the kindest most loving versions of ourselves, doing things that serve our true selves and dreams - then we're moving forward at the pace we're meant to. Things happen and fall into place when they're meant to. And the universe guides us exactly where we're meant to be at the right time. You have a lot on your hands Kristen, going through and staying strong in something that is so emotionally challenging and draining. You may not post videos often, but each piece reflects and shows us what a beautiful being you are. They radiate love, kindness, gentleness and overall shine light on the world. That's what matters. You make a difference with the thing you love to do. Just keep on making them at your own pace, and I know deep within that it'll transform not only your life for the better but also others. At least your videos do that for me. This was a VERY long message hahaha I send you the biggest hug and all my love to you, your mom and to little Bean. And yes, what you wrote about the inside journey made so much sense! Thank you!! ❤☀🤗

One of the greatest things I learned was that all the masters, those artists who paved the way for my creative journey, they all had so much work they hated and failed at. I learned everything about art from self education and experimentation. Hugs, just keep creating my kindred 🩵
