I loved your CS1 builds and have to confess to not having seen much of your CS2 series as I knew it wasn't going to be the same. Your niche is detailed, custom builds and people come to your channel for that rather than what is frankly generic CS2 gameplay. I'd love to go back to CS1 for a lot more Sunset City and Oceania as they were beautiful builds that simply can't be replicated in CS2 at the moment. 💙

Yeah same here. CS2 definitely needs more fleshing out. (Also the reason why I haven't bought it yet.) But when it does, and mods are readily available, I'm sure the builds are going to be awesome.

I agree and I’ll be back. But I’m still being drawn to CSL2 atm as there’s still so much unknown territory. After 7 years playing csl1 it’s a nice change even if it’s not everything I wanted. That being said I’ve already started work on an Oceania episode but I’d like to be a few videos ahead before releasing any csl1 videos.thank you for the comment ❤

Honestly Twodollars why don't you just stick to cs:1 modded content until cs:2 gets all it's mods and functionality. I watch your videos for realistic layouts and real world type of detail. I'd be way more excited about a new cs:1 series then the same old bland city that every other content creator is making.

I got bored in my 3rd city. Here’s why. 1. They’re taking too long to implement the modding part. I’m very busy right now and I don’t have the luxury of time gambling with external mods. 2. All buildings looks the same. Don’t get me wrong, they all look amazing. However, what made CS1 addictive is that players see something new everyday because of the Steam Workshop. 3. How resources are handled are boring and half-assed. In Sim City 2013, you really feel the presence of the resources and their impact to the city. CS2 could’ve made it in a way that making buildings would eat up resources like wood, plastics, papers and ores. They should’ve gave us more control on the management of resources as well and the control of what to export and what to import. 4. Traffic light AI is bad. Who decided that left turn lanes and the counterflow lane can be green at the same time? 5. Land value is OP. There is a zone in my city with lots of low density office and commercial spaces which increased the land value to full dark blue. It doesn’t allow me to zone medium density apartments. It only allows Low Rent housing and the sky scrapers. Problem with low rent housing is people always abandon them due to small spaces. The skycrapee houses looks awful when overzoned. 6. Zoning squares are bonkers. CS1 did it better. 7. Gas stations are unbalanced. I have an avenue that has gas stations every block.

I now have nearly 195 in-game hours, and I could have saved half of that time if CS2 didn't have such ridiculous building restrictions. When constructing from a bird's eye view, everything looks great at first. However, when viewed from an inclined perspective, everything appears crooked, uneven, and extremely rough. I've invested so much time in creating aesthetically pleasing structures, and sometimes I just want to throw my PC out of the window because it's so frustrating. This is even though I'm already using many mods and the Dev mode. Particularly frustrating is the clipping between roads and terrain, and the necessity to almost always build 70° turns to avoid the roads clipping into each other. There's no way to create smooth and graceful turns where the curve isn't so sharp. The same issue applies to building railroads. Sometimes I wonder if the developers ever played their own game. They invested so much time during development into the smallest details, yet the basics function as if a 5-year-old were building the roads. I really wonder why they didn't adopt all the functions from the top 10 downloaded mods from CS1.
@MarcoVeraccio
@MarcoVeraccio 4 месяца назад
Biggest issue with that I find is not clipping and bugs, but not having tools to hide them. Vegetation props go a long way, as well as Move It. Those two I miss the most from the first game.

A method to elevate the sea level and prevent the coastline from being as steep as cliffs. (07:09) 1.Load existing city. >> Dev mode >> “save game”>> Exit to Main Menu. 2.Editor(Map) >> Dev mode >> “load game” 3.Water >> Border Sea water Sources >>“Height” Change the “height” value. Elevate the sea level. 4. Dev mode >> "save game" >> Exit to Main Menu. 5. Load your city >> dev mode >> "load game" The sea level will gradually rise to your specified height.

I'm a late starter for City Skylines... I only started buying and playing it midway through last year with the Steam Summer Sales (Winter for us Ozzies). I have Architectural experience, and I LOVE your realistic looking builds! I love how you study Google Earth and mimic the sprawl and thematic aesthetic of various cities by capturing the heart and soul of the CBD, the islands, the terrain, the river mouth entries, the ports and harbours, the train depots, and even the look and feel of all the buildings and classification zones! I love your analysis. I even loved your Springfield city recreation! I watched every episode! You're right how for some noobs like me, everything about City Skylines 1 is overwhelming for me, especially since I bought most of the DLC packs all together in a HUGE bundle early last year! But I have it on my computer and I occasionally play through it. I love seeing how you do things, and it also encourages me to try my own. I watch your channel, and I have also watched a lot of Biffa with his traffic solutions, and Sanctum Gamer with his realistic looking builds. Yours is a lot like Sanctum Gamer but often grounded in more logical topographic realism since you often base your cities on real ones. Sanctum Gamer is awesome but he mostly goes for what looks pretty. Biffa makes a lot of sense for traffic flow easement and traffic jam reductions but his builds (IMHO) tend to be a lot more basic and limited. Since I spent so much money on the City Skylines bundle last year, and since the first game is so perfect in its own right, I have no urgency to get City Skylines 2, at least until it gets a lot better with future add-ons like map builder and custom DLC packs. I'm going to hold-off from getting the second one, at least until it improves with time. I hope you keep making content from the first game, especially for people like that are stubborn and refuse to get the second game until it improves in time. I'll keep occasionally checking your channel to hopefully see more City Skylines ONE content :) Gus from Brisbane, Queensland.

i have been struggling alot in CS:2, i have restarted maybe 20 times already and cant really get it to look like the first one, after 6-7 hours the plans are just all gone due to this and that, in the old one you could so easily just save and jump to the workshop and find what you needed and load back in and place a stadium or a shop or anything, perhaps in time this will get better but every time i start i just end up in big squares of houses, i feel it was easier before to make small towns and villages and stuff llike that... i hope your new map will sort out your issues and looking forward to see it.

I agree that they missed the oppertunity to come out of the gates better then they did with Cities Skylines. The community wants to flesh out this game on every aspect and you can tell by the mods that appear on Thunderstore already. The devs should have at least had the editor and the importer ready from the get go. I do hope (and its not because i think that consoles are bad or anything) that the mods and possibilities do not suffer because they have to be available for consoles now too. At least we know eventually this game will be near up to par with CS1 in the future. I hope your next build will be your best yet. Always enjoyed your content which has enspired me too. Theres no shame in looking ahead and noticing things dont work out,its worse when you see it and ignore it. Keep going!

I get what you mean in this vid, and I agree that its mostly due to CS2 not having the breath of add-ons that CS1 had by the end of its development in both base game/DLC's features and mods, I also agree that with it being a Colossal Order and Paradox game they will get there, I mean I remember what CS1 was like before Park Life and then the subsequent releases was like, I'm really looking forward to see where CS2 goes and I think once were all a lot more comfortable with the new game mechanics we'll all be building far more interesting city's. I also have started and re started multiple city's so far and I'm glad your abandoning something your not happy with rather than trying to struggle threw with something that's not working for you. I think you're right on the money with all of your frustrations regarding this game. The cities all look the same. Some of that is asset limitations, but a lot of it is the restrictiveness of the environmental tools. I actually thought this was the biggest limitation of CS1, too - and taking a big step back is baffling to me. I really hope they have something in the pipeline for this. But I'm very much looking forward to your new map. Your a sharp eye for landscapes and it's part of what always sells your cities!

I also noted the terrain issue, even though the maps are supposed to be bigger than in cs1, which somehow they aren't (cs1 with 81 tiles maps are bigger, I think it's 14 vs 16km length each side) and for what they are trying to do with the mountains the maps are WAY too small. I also understand that it's a new game from scratch but they sell it as a full price title! There are 100% not enough assets. For many if not most buildings there is just 1 EU and 1 na asset, maybe 2 per lot size, imo that is UNEXEPTABLE

😢 I no longer feel excited for Cities Skylines 2 anymore, it's just not the same feeling I had like 9 months ago when I was a complete delusional about it, I got so much expectations, and it got shattered and all that love for city builder games became a shitshow in my head, I really thought I was in the "next generation of city building games" and as I keep waiting for GTA 6 now I might have to wait for the "real" next city builder game of this generation that is actually doing right, for now I think the best one so far is Workers and Resources Soviet Republic, it has all the things that Cities Skylines can't even imagine to have even in the alternative timelines out there... I don't know if I'm wasting my braincell to give a little bit of hope to CS2, whatever happens happens, but I don't think it's going to get better. It's like society, you can't fix it.

I felt the same. I was very disappointed watching the beginning of this series, because of the whole terraforming as we go along plan. I thought there was an overarching vision for the city that I just didn't know yet, so I continued watching anyway. We saw some really nice tricks in this series for sure. I totally get however how quitting and getting a new map was inevitable. I think it is paramount for a realistic looking city build to finish the map first and then respect the topography. If you don't, you need to know very well beforehand how you want it to turn out so it kind of looks like you respected the topography after the fact, and that takes a very good imagination, memory and spatial sense. Definitely no easy feat to pull off.

you are not alone in this. i see a lot of CS1 creators struggling with CS2. Even i abandoned more cities in CS2 than in CS1 and i played CS1 for a very long time. The game is just different to play and lot of people are still adjusting towards CS2 and struggling along the way. I really enjoy your videos and you are the best CS1 youtuber for me. but recently "Infrastructurist" has been creating really amazing CS2 content. so different and natural gameplay from him compared to any other CS1 creator. and that is in my opinion because he already discovered and adjusted the new way to play this new game. You cant play CS2 like you would CS1 and many people has failed and abandoned their city because of this. i know you will nail the next city. dont let this discourage you and dont be so hard on yourself. you are not alone in this

I am probably in the minority but I loved how you worked with the existing terrain. Some of what you did with hills was stunning. I only hope that "inspired by city planner plays" doesnt equal "flatten everything and make a featureless city elevation wise". I love your builds though and am looking forward to seeing what you have designed.

Evolving a city as it grows thru its history will probably result in a more ad hoc layout, so I wouldn’t worry abt the roadway alignment issue. I think CS2 would be good if/when able to begin from a historical perspective at the start, rather than only a current era city trying to include its history in retrospect. However I totally get the desire for a better map and terrain, so I look fwd to the new one!

The best looking city I've seen so far in Cities: Skylines 2 so far. But you making the map the way you envisioned it is going to make the city even better I'm sure.

There is a reason why an 8 year old game (Skylines 1) has again more players than Skylines 2. The game is a barebones early acces title. Also don't you get acces to the beta map editor as a CC? Or maybe the game isn't just for you :p :p

Its a real shame how somewhat disappointing CS2 turned out to be. In terms of a short term solution i (and it would seem many others agree) would suggest putting a bit more focus on CS1, thats not to say to completely abandon CS2 or barely give it a thought, but just until this game starts to reach its potential just focus even a wee tad more on the one that lets you do what you do best - hyper detailed custom cities. Because i dont know if anyone else has this sentiment but i simply cannot get into watching really any CS2 series, as regardless of who plays it, everything just feels samey because eveyone is on the same what feels like three maps, with the same assets making at times very similar cities, which is really sad because i really would love to get into this game, however it simply is missing the main three systems that allowed cities to feel unique - props, custom assets and a map editor. Gotta say not even including one of these at launch was a bit crazy, then again the game did come in hot - feels kinda like Paradox rushed Collosal Order a bit tbh. Will at least give the restarted series a shot though and wish you the best in it ❤ P.S please more Sunset City OK bye

C:S2 is definitely a mixed bag so far, but it’s worth repeating that it’s worth remembering C:S1 didn’t even have tunnels at launch. Hopefully a little time will take this game a long way. Chalk up this first map as a learning experience - we’ll stick around!

Re-starting to get a better map? I'm all for it. Also, I do agree that the map editor/ environmental tools are a huge missed opportunity. This is supposed to be the next-generation city-builder, yet in some ways, I would say the tools are even more limited than in CS 1. Additionally, the zoning is yet another missed opportunity. One would think, that in 2023 and forward, we should be able to take advantage of oddly shaped lots too. Yet, the zoning seems even more finicky than in the previous game. Still, I do not regret pre-ordering this game, and even though some of the excitement wore off, I continue to enjoy it. we just need much more freedom and diversity (assets, textures).

I can see lots of custom assets taking advantage of the lack of variation in growables. I think the gene will be excellent in a few months and we’ll have all these skills under our belts when it is 😊

Cities Skylines without Mods and Assets is not very fun to play. I haven't bought Cities 2 yet, since I am afraid modding will be very restricted this time. These corporations aren't known for good decisions as of lately.

cities skylines 2 has some big shoes to fill, and its not there yet. people had been murmuring about cs2 since 2016 and it was fine. they made the mistake of announcing this game too early. they should have kept it in development for a good 1-2 more years before announcing it. 90% of us are still more than happy to play cs1. in fact, im more happy to play cs1 than 2 which i do not want to play cause it is horrible.

Yeah, a lot of what people are calling “missing content” is really content that we’d see in DLC. This happens with other DLC and mod-heavy games too, like The Sims franchise. Paradox is a company and they need to make money off this game. So of course a lot of the things we have right now in CS1 are future revenue streams for CS2. We’d have to pay a lot more than $40 for a game with the size and complexity of CS1 upfront. The only 2 things I really think they should’ve had on day 1, and should’ve delayed release in order to have them, are the map editor and mod support. The game really is incomplete as a base game without those.

I am on the same boat. The map does not conform to logic and science. I am a geologist. If the map is not logical, i find it less interesting. River Delta? Wide U Shaped Valley upstream, Narrow V Shaped downstream. Doesnt make sense in the context of geomorphology Waterway pass? Mountain on the sides does not match the shape of the river. Meandering river form because of the flat terrain of a valley or the difference between lithology layers, meaning weaker layer will be eroded quicker than the harder surface, making the river go thru path of least resistance. Sunshine Peninsula? how in the hell a flat plateu forms without any sign of vulcanic or tectonic activity.
