My comment is about your last clip. A method to elevate the sea level in your existing city and prevent the coastline from looking like cliffs. 1.Load existing city. >> Dev mode >> “save game”>> Exit to Main Menu. 2.Editor(Map) >> Dev mode >> “load game” 3.Water >> Border Sea water Sources >>“Height” Change the “height” value. Elevate the sea level , e.g., from "520" to "525," resulting in a 5-meter increase. 4. Dev mode >> "save game" >> Exit to Main Menu. 5.Load your city >> dev mode >> "load game" The sea level will gradually rise to your specified height in your existing city. My English is not very good, so if you already knew these things, please don't mind my comments. I'm just sharing a good method that I've been using.

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I cannot get this map to work. In the zip file under the Maps folder I see four files, but there are two called New Dollarton MAP.cok (both are 34mb) and two called New Dollarton MAP.cok.cid (both are 32 bytes). When I go to move them into the game folder, it wants to replace each of them with each other since they share the same name. Looking at City Planner's zip file, he has Magnolia County - Final.MapData (42mb), Magnolia County - Final.MapData.cid (32 bytes), Magnolia County - Final.MapMetadata (901 bytes), and Magnolia County - Final.MapMetadata.cid (32 bytes).

I was wondering how it would look to just sink an area like... One meter below sea level. I know the game doesn't care about plants growing out of the water. Maybe a densely planted, extremely shallow water area might pull the look off?

21:46 hey I can see my old apartment from here! I used to live in Marble Hill in the Bronx - it’s a super unique neighborhood, and I definitely recommend looking up info on it. Marble Hill is on the mainland, directly across the Harlem River from Manhattan Island… but it’s actually technically part of Manhattan (ie. It has a Manhattan zip code and city services etc). About a century ago, as the city developed to the end of the island, the Harlem River was _rerouted_ so that this neighborhood was cut off from the island proper. It’s interesting because it shows how, not only do cities respond to the terrain as they grow, the terrain itself also adjusts to the city in turn.

From someone that lives in this region, what I would do with the mountains is create a first ridge a little closer to the city, then a second one a little ways behind the first. Then create a raised valley between them. This would be most similar to the actual geography. You can see this on google maps by looking at where denser suburbs give way to much more open green area.

I quite like the idea of having both a Beverly Hills type of neighborhood on the foothills as well as a large zoo / nature reserve I'm also worried that Manhattan is too small here. Thinking of the landmarks of New York like the UN headquarters, Columbia University, iconic skyscrapers like Vanderbilt or Rockefeller, Battery Park, Stuyvesant, Hudson Yards; I hope that you can fit in enough landmarks.

16:00 Actually at the moment you can use the Anarchy mod to terraform outside the building area and to place trees! As for creating marshlands if you try and find the terrain contour level just below sea level you can right click on it using the slope or flatten tool and then flatten out the area you want as marshland, so its more elevated than the actual rivers while also being flooded. You can also terraform small islands above the elevated basin and make the small mounds and islands above sea level to create a marshland!

I've been building NYC-ish cities in CS2 since release. I think you made Manhattan and Brooklyn way too small. I kept doing this and the scale never felt right. I must have been through 10 iterations at this point. There is so much detail in places particularly like Dumbo, Long Island City, The West Village. the Lower East Side Projects or even central park that when you try to shrink it down it loses the feel of those places. I live in Greenpoint Brooklyn. I've tried to re-create it but I always under size it and it feels underwhelming. They end up feeling like a 1/8th size toy replica without the lived in vibe. Some of the places like Park Slope really benefit from monotonous rowhomes. Love what you did with Hackensack, JC and the rest of North Jersey. That slightly elevated train line with the bushes is so good! I wish every train line could be automatically built like that. Are you planning to incorporate Newark? Definitely check out Montclair for inspo in those hilly commuter suburbs.
@AwesometownUSA
@AwesometownUSA 5 месяцев назад
I agree, although he could work around those limitations if he’s creative enough about it. For example I’m thinking about how they designed the map in GTA4, where they collapsed neighborhoods (ie. DUMBO and Williamsburg became one unified area, and the game kinda consolidated the general vibe of both areas into one…) I lived in Bushwick at the time the game was released, so I could nitpick, but in general those kinds of decisions made sense

Just found this today and I'm looking forward to playing it as someone who lives in the area of NJ. A few thoughts: - Mass transit is comparatively good here. You have trains up through Bergen county and points west. Hoboken is the terminus for trains not going to Penn Station NY. - Secaucus Junction train station is the hub where many trains transition; people transfer here to go to either NYP or HOB. - From Hoboken, you can take the light rail to Jersey City, the PATH to NYC, or walk the waterfront to JC (highly recommended). - Add Rt 3 that leads to the Lincoln Tunnel. On second thought, maybe not. - Check out Clifton and surrounding areas for inspiration on the mountains. - The Passaic River is close to where your auxiliary river is. It's much cleaner than it used to be, but from Passaic to Newark it's still a mess. - Many of the polluted areas you mentioned are in much better shape than they used to be, but ground pollution still lingers. - Most of Bergen County is affluent and suburban, except the spaghetti that is Paramus.

Hi, for the mountainous area, I think it would be a great idea to turn a chunk of it into a reservoir. If you have a look at the New Croton reservoir NY, it has some beautiful 19th century bridges and a wall that could be refashioned into a dam of sorts like the kensico dam plaza.

Hey absolutely agree with you about the edge of the maps and the land beyond the buildable tiles. I hate it so much lol. Literally won't use most of the maps because of it. I can't stand the idea of building a big city or suburban area and it just abruptly stops into nothingness, no trees, no roads, nothing lol. So any map that minimizes that is great. Just water or mountains is ideal I think. But any buildable flat land near those borders I try to make farmland or forests or something idk. Just funny to hear your thoughts on it cuz I completely agree lol, I was like is this just me being weird or does this bother anyone else??

Looks like a wonderful map! Love the large islands. I've spent some time building on CPP's Magnolia County map; I credit that with keeping me in CS2, as the vanilla maps were rather discouraging to me. My builds tend to be "scattered village" - it's 2031, I've only 20k cims but have built to 3 of the map edges. Some of my edge communities are relying on outside power/water, even while I'm exporting power elsewhere on the map (yes, I have both "surplus" profit and "trade" costs). All are connected by the 2-lane highway, which will be upgraded as farms are taken over for suburbs, and existing oil producers (now running 45% due to resource depletion) expand and need more local workers. A couple of the best features of Magnolia County and apparently yours (and which I'd like expanded if suitable to plans): - Availability of power *and* water in the start square is huge plus! It's not unreasonable to rely on outside connections when small. My suggestion is to have water/power running edge-to-edge in more places on the map, to support building a little 1k farming community waaay out there. And later, to help connect them to the main grid. - Availability of *continuous* highways throughout, edge-to-edge, especially near the power is game-changing. Again, the farming community needs connection without having to buy dozens of connecting tiles, as was required in CS1. Magnolia County used a 2-lane highway (I see you have 4-lane), and that's been absolutely great (so far). It's gotten a bit congested near the start square (my large town), but I've upgraded it there, as one would see irl. A 2-lane highway with a dirt road leading off of it isn't that odd in some places. In southern Louisiana, long before the Interstates in the '70s, Highway 90 seemed to go on for ages through swamp and forest before you ever saw a town, then miles more before another, and was [seldom] crossed by other highways with much of the same. - Rational terrain. Both your maps surpass River Valley here. I like not-flat terrain (too much of that in childhood), but the wobbly stuff in the vanilla maps was difficult. These improvements over the original River Valley map (which I tried several times to play) have made all the difference for me. River Valley had one highway that extended over a river and dead-ended (?), and it had large expressways (going where I didn't want, and with no power or water available, and looked stupid built into a local road), and the terrain was...betterable. Thanks for your efforts, and thanks to CPP for his map and muchly for his offering help to others in the community to benefit us all!

Some ideas that came to mind when you mentioned possible ideas for the outlying areas of the map: In the more hilly/mountainous area you could totally do a mountain resort type of project. Like the hotels in The Shining or Dirty Dancing or something as wild as the Fairmont Hotels in Canada or something as simple as a Summer Camp style of recreational area. It is a shame that you can’t really create a lake yet though. The other idea I have is in the “rich mansion” area of the map, you have a Gatsby themed set up with two large homes across from each other and a dramatic story line connecting them. Kinda like the sketchy people in Sunset City but a new story.

Hi $2.20! Great map! I'm a NYC native. Some ideas for the hills and mountains consider state parks and watershed land. Look at Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain State park as examples. I used to go camping there with my family and scouts as a kid. Also look at areas that make up the Croton watershed for inspiration. There are lots of small damns and reservoirs in the area. I love the size of the rivers around the 15-minute mark. The one thing that bugs me about CS is the water and rivers. The waves/ripples are not to scale which then in turn causes maps to have huge, unrealistic rivers. Those ones are very to scale with rivers in the NE U.S., so way to not make them huge

Personally I enjoy the maps with restrictions rather than be like an big Island like how rockstar makes their maps, but how game creators do it is not something I tend to enjoy these days, like no roads going out the map itself and it loops back to roads inside the map. For me it makes it feel like the world your game character is in is soo much bigger.

Why couldn't the devs make maps like this. It has mountains but it's mostly level and you don't have to worry about terraforming as much.

I think you should definitely come up wirh new names, instead of New Dollarton. How about these: New Jersey (New Varsity) Manhattan (Kingsman) Brooklyn (Brougham) Staten Island (Colony Island) Bronx (The Crown) Queens (Dames)
