Been a long day, but the grading is done and life moves on... And I can see that at least for the time being, the lanes on the highway of life have narrowed a bit... and left you with fewer options for excitement. Being the older guy that I am, I really don't have any experience with new video games... or really any video games for that matter... unless you count "pong." My hope is that between blasting zombies into the great hereafter, you are engaging in great conversation with your friends. I think conversation is an art that has been lost with the advent of all this wonderful technology. Sometimes screens and action are easier to focus on than the expressions on faces, the richness or words, different tones and levels of voices. Although I'm not into video games, I think I've lost valuable messages and time because I was focused on "first downs, touchdowns, strikeouts, and homeruns." Those are things I've lost and really can't get back, no matter how much I try. You're on the home stretch with the chemo. There's some real energy and hope in your voice when you say that. There is a "next" out there just waiting to be stepped into. The cool thing about "next" is that there is a whole lot of unknown out there to drink in and taste. What mountain will you climb and which lagoon will you swim in next? Who will be part of that late night conversation under a dim light in a hut next to an undiscovered beach? What bunch of crazies will run the bulls with you in Pamplona? It's all part of the "great next" that will come in time. But... patience is the word of the day. Yeah, waiting sucks sometimes. But there's sweetness in the moment that is "now." You're home and I can see that your mom just drinks in your presence. That alone makes you a lucky man. Enjoy every moment you spend sending zombies to their doom. It's the best now anyone can have. Keep on keepin' on.

My radiation oncologist offered to let me off early, but I refused; the last thing I wanted was to have to go through it again, so let's get it right the first time.
