Here's a quick reminder: a lot of the times examples on youtube etc. will be extreme and you do NOT have to be at their level to realize you're an alcoholic. If you feel like alcohol is seriously fucking up your life and you can't seem to stop it, then boom ur an alcoholic. The idea of hitting bottom is so toxic and insane. You don't want to be at your worst, trust me.

I literally drove 100 miles away from my friends and family because i have a drinking problem and was willing to be homeless rather than deal with what needs to be done, i was with bums that were drinking and saying laying on the street was fine. the only reason i came home was because my mom wanted me back. Im going into rehab tomorrow and i hope i have the strength to keep it for the rest of my life. Fuck saying cheers to a shot how about saying cheers we have another chance to try

i just relapsed last night after being sober for a few months . This journey to sobriety has been so hard for me . I was in denial for the longest time about my issue until it started taking a toll on my life , i lost friends , had family members stop talking to me , i started getting in trouble at work, made incredibly stupid decisions because i was drunk . no matter how badly i wanted to stop drinking , i couldn’t handle the mistakes i made so i drank to forget them , but i failed to see how my addiction was hurting those around me because they had to see me basically hit rock bottom .... i feel ashamed that i relapsed after doing so well for so long . I’m back to square one feeling depressed & anxious and dealing with the consequences of my actions

Go easy on yourself. Shame and guilt make it all a very vicious cycle. If you did it for a few months you can do it again. You are stronger than you think so take it all one day at a time 😊

I saw the first one and I have to tell my story today I started recovery (June 10th 2021) and I decided to start with 5 days without drinking because I know it’s hard for me to even try for a day, like the guy in the first story I am 17 almost 18 and for a few weeks or a month i have been drinking my stress away but I took my moms alcohol I took 3 bottles from her they weren’t all full but some were really strong and I would mix them, I personally have issues with god but i am a Satanist which is basically an atheist that sees themselves as a god, my body is my temple and I shall keep it healthy the best and abuslute way I can if anyone has recommendations to recovery and being sober without AA or rehab

Careful saying that. You think you're 'so' recovered might tempt you into have a drink cuz "oh im recovered now I can drink again" Maybe you can, most of us alcoholics here can't control even one fucking drink. That's the problem. As the saying goes one drink is too many and a thousand ain't enough

I was there, finally hit my lowest point around this last Christmas and was having the worst fucking withdrawals in my life after bending 3 or 4 days. Kindled myself after being dry for 6 weeks after another 4 day bend before that. I literally scared myself out of drinking. I only just now after about 10 weeks sober am starting to feel normal again and my brain isn't all fucked up. And of course as bad as this addiction is you never forget that you love to drink and a lot of times either to have fun or be social.. once it just becomes drinking out of pure boredom often you may find you're drinking to be numb. And being numb is what we're addicted to by and large. I offer you peace in your heart and your head, because you can attain it. The shitty thing is it is very fucking difficult to begin recovery. I would suggest for the first week if you can do it, either have someone stay over with you or stay over with them. Someone you trust and respect and enjoy being around. Try to do what AA does and just tell yourself you need to just not drink for another 24 hours. Or 24 minutes or seconds you know and just repeat. Blessings to you Anna I'm sorry you're having a hard time. The pain of living is made up in our heads. We've taken too seriously what the Gods made for fun!
