Surrogacy in the United States has become more popular than ever, but paying women to carry someone else's fertilized egg is raising complex legal and ethical issues. Lisa Ling explores the taboo trend.
@@TheZodiacz how could you say that she is so amazing there is a special place for u in hell shame on you she is so nice she has 6 adopted children and she is helping a couple have a baby because they can't I would re think what you said.
Sheenal Deo this mom actually has something like 13 children now and her sister has 21 children (all but 2 are adopted). They both are amazing parents and have RU-vid channels called Missing pieces and The crazy middles
Lily J. Thomas really? As of this week the only public fertility clinic stated they will be closing their doors and every woman going through or were scheduled to go through treatments have to go to a private clinic and pay $$$. I can't imagine it being out lawed! That's crazy!
Under Trump America is it's really a nightmare, we really are living under a dictatorship. I'm afraid the birth control I use for my medical issues will end up not being covered soon and I'll be shit out of luck. (Pardon my French)
Lily J. Thomas be as French as you want! I feel for you! Always welcome here in Canada. We have our issues too. But I do watch the news and I feel awful for you guys!
I've been thinking since day 1 to get my citizenship in Canada but I'm praying Trump gets kicked out of the White House soon. Some of his side kicks on the campaign trail are being picked up on collusion with the Russians.
pretty hurts _Butterfly's copeland the baby could have heart issues. It depends tbh if there is a long history of heart issues in your family then yes and the asthma idk about that
$27,000 is barely minimum wage for 40 hrs per week for a year. 9 months pregnant=24 hours per day for 9 months. Plus being in hard labor... that's not very much money at ALL. The surrogate is getting cheated...
Surrogacy is not just about money and if that is your main focus about prgnancy I feel sorry for your kids. This woman is CLEARLY genuine and doesn't care a whole lot about the amount of money and is just happy that she's blessing a couple with a healthy new born that they themselves CANNOT produce otherwise. You are one negative mother and should try walking in her shoes for a day ma'am.
When I was like.. 5 or 6 my mom was a surrogate for a Japanese couple, had twins, a boy and a girl. They're still friends to this day, I'm 25. Crazy to think about when I watch this, the family lived here for a while though, and a while after. Interesting to hear numbers and an adult. I do know my parents got paid a lot lot less than now.
HeyImValarie18 amazing, do you ever talk to the boy and the girl now since your mom is still close with the couple (hope you don't mine me just asking this is wonderful your mom is a blessing💕😊)
I’m 16 and I know I don’t want to have a child when I’m older “naturally”. My parents and friends say I’ll change my mind but I’ve determined I’m going to adopt my kids. Pregnancy in general is something I don’t want to experience, I would consider surrogacy but I don’t see the need in bringing another child in the world when I could adopt an already living child.
$25000 surrogate fee for 9 month is like working 24/7 for only $4 per hour, and thats not even counting the other costs of pregnancy. i guess you really have to enjoy being pregnant to do this kinda work
That's the base compensation. There's a lot more that goes into it and they end up getting more. However, like they said, it's not a job and if you do it just for money, you're going into it for the wrong reason and most likely you won't pass the initial screenings.
depends on the contract, my cousin tried to have kids for years she couldn't hold the baby. She had 10 miscarriages, they are in asia. They asked me to look around for a place for them in the states since we live here. It ranges from 40-100k to the agency.
Not really, an average american makes 20k or less a year, well depending on where you live. With this yes you do have to do it full time for 9 months however it's different, you can take those 9months off and not work and focus on doing things you like, like reading, watching dramas/tv shows or things that you can do while pregnant and still make money to be able to pay the bills. They also pay more dependong on where you live, and who is the one asking for the baby. There are lots of Rich Chinese couples that do it so their child can be an US & CHINESE citizen, and then later on in life that lets the also become US citizens. Incase you don't know some Chinese wealthy couples have more money than you can imagine so they are willing to pay a lot more.
Omg-- I've been watching the RU-vid channel of this family for just over 6 months and it's crazy to see a CNN video on them from 4 whole years ago! Their channel is called "Crazy Pieces" with 428K subscribers and they now have 11 children (3 biological and 8 adopted)! 💕💕💕
I was too. I'm happy now with 3 kids. I had those thoughts too when I was around 20. When u find the right man u will wonder about how ur kid would look like maybe not. Leave option open ❤
she's such an angel.. the way she smiles when she express how happy she is with her pregnancy is really touching and very sincere.. its really hard to give away a baby you carried for 9 months but I guess, it also makes her happy that she was able to help a couple have their dream family. i respect this woman.
So many people criticize the fact that they spent a lot of money to have a biological child instead of adopting, but their decision should be respected. Some people dream of having a baby that’s biologically theirs, some dream of adopting a child to love and care for. When you want a dog, you can adopt or buy one and that choice is respected, so why is it different with a baby?
I'm pregnant and the feeling of having a being inside is so amazing. You care for this baby so much. I know this isnt for me but it would be so hard to carry and love this baby that belongs to someone else and the birth day come, and I have to give it away. Need strong person to do that.
Aww! This is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing this video with us. It's very interesting. I really enjoyed watching this video. You are such an amazing lady. You are doing a great job. I really appreciate your efforts. I hope your journey goes fine till the end. Wishing you good luck.
these women are angels they are trusted with this special gift inside them for 9 months and then they go through so much pain in delivery and they sacrifice so much to give this special gift to a couple that cannot do it on there own I think that is amazing and that these women are amazing they are a gift from God so I want to say to them on behalf of all the women who can't carry a baby on there own THANK YOU AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS FOR ALL THE REST OF YOUR DAYS HERE AND AFTER
Mam u r great 3 biological babyand 6 adopted and now u r surrogate it's amazing mam one day u will become god u give so much happiness and hope in the life of those people who r unable to become mother hatts off to u
$27,000 dollars is not enough to carry a child 9 months, which no matter what affects your body. Also it automatically gives the child American citizenship that’s quite convenient
Again, she’s not in it for the money. I think you missed that part. Yes, you get paid but she didn’t take on the job t get millions. She walked in with the mindset of helping couples expand their families. If you have an issue with the automatic citizenship why do you go to law school and find a way to change the rules instead of just saying “how convenient”. Do something about it if truly makes you mad and keeps you up at night. Best of luck
I would do it for the money, I've actually looked into it, but there are a lot of requirements. And most of the time the requirement is that you at least be in your mid 20s, making it impossible unless you started college late or you're a grad student. And personally, I don't think that's enough money, so I'm gonna pass. They also require you to have your own child first, and I don't know very many college students with children. Along with that, you have to be "financially stable" for some odd reason. Too many requirements of college students.
Kirstyn to weed out people doing surrogacy as a “job” to ensure that the potential surrogate can safely and healthfully carry a child to term, to ensure that the parents are not the sole caretaker of the surrogate ( room and board are your own responsibility)
I am crap at being pregnant i have 4 of my own but iv had 5 they all made me ill from day one ,Little buggers,i am better at labor only took 45 mins start to finish with my youngest 13 mins in delivery ,
Yeahh... Not me. I felt like shit from day one to the end. First trimester I couldnt even stay awake for more than 3 hours and extreme nausea. Second trimester was chaos, vomiting, feeling like shit and nausea. Thrid trimester was a lot of painful kicks and punches, nausea, and bloating. I ended with an emergency c section. And now I want more cause my son is too cute.
@@puddles5247 15 min at labour? Dayum thats some hip muscle u got all my aunts took one day (like from night to day and day to night no kidding) to give birth.
They second trimester I ok I can eat again and I'm drinking a lot of water or juice and I'm still thirsty I don't have really any heartburn but my body is in a bit of discomfort
Top 3 reasons Chinese parents choose USA surrogacy over surrogacy in Thailand or the Philippines. 1) US citizenship for the child. The belief that USA is paradise on earth makes many people in the developing world dream of living, studying or working in the US. Eventually, the whole family might move to the US and gain US citizenship. 2) Having half white baby. Notice that nearly all the surrogate mothers are white. Most people in Asia, Africa and Latin America have severe inferiority complex towards white people thanks to memories leftover from the colonial era (yes, I know some Latinos are white but most are not). The Chinese, in particular, have acute inferiority complex towards Caucasians. 3) Top medical care. I think rich Chinese moving to the US is far better for the US than poor immigrants who add to the poverty rate. USA should make it easier for rich foreigners to gain US citizenship.
You can't just adopt from China, just like that. They only have special needs toddlers/children available for adoption. At one time they did have a "healthy" infant program, mostly girls, but attitudes in China have changed. Girls are not being abandoned as they were in previous decades. We adopted our son from China in 2006, he was special needs, minor, however many of the children available now have multiple special needs. Many countries have closed their international adoption programs. Adoption is not the same as in the past and it is not quick like they make out on television. It it lengthy. People were waiting up to 7 years to receive a referral from CHina for a non special needs baby girl. We have also adopted from Haiti, and that in itself back in 2003 was a roller coaster. You have to deal with adopting country governments, US state laws and federal laws and extensive paperwork and background checks. So surrogacy for many will give them an easier way to build a family and for many people biological children are important, and that is absolutely normal. Our children are teenagers now and are amazing, so for us it was the right decision.
these ladies are heavenly attendants they are trusted with this uncommon blessing inside them for 9 months and afterward they experience such a great amount of torment in conveyance and they forfeit such a great amount to give this exceptional blessing to a couple that can't do it on there possess I imagine that is astonishing and that these ladies are astounding they are a blessing from God so I need to state to them in the interest of the considerable number of ladies who can't convey a child on there claim Thanks a ton
ji jiji your comment reflects just how little you know about surrogacy. Before the baby is even made there is a lawyer and a legal process to go through. Why are you talking about something you clearly know nothing about? Also in the case of birth defects you can put in the legal agreement that a child with birth defects must be aborted ect ect . The parents have complete legal control, there is no “taking the baby” it’s not yours.
ji jiji What is a heavily pregnant woman going to do run? No. And when she has the baby she would have to go to a hospital. What if the child get sick? Or needs to be enrolled in school? She will turn up eventually. It’s a child NOT a TV - there would be amber alerts PSAs and people looking for them moron. The police would hunt her down. She wouldn’t make it far and statistically, someone running off with a baby they were a surrogate is rare and highly unlikely.
Rue Bon I think it would be weird if you didn't! If you carried a baby for 9 months, I would think part of your heart would always be with them, regardless of parentage.
Wish it was legal in Australia. As I'd love to do this. Carrying a baby for someone. I love my 2 children and loved to give someone else the chance of that happiness with their own children
Its so admirable to see woman who love their pregnancy, and I am so glad they are able to do it healthily and happily. I have hypermesis gravidarum and it makes pregnancy a living nightmare with pregnancy :( and id give anything to have a smooth healthy pregnancy
I would love to be a surrogate but the sad thing is that I can't even get pregnant yet and someone told me that maybe is because I haven't found the right man.
This is such an adorable video. You're an inspiring woman, truly. Surrogacy is an amazing procedure to have a baby from. Surrogates deserve appreciation from all of us. Without them, surrogacy isn't possible. May you keep on giving happiness to people like this! Best wishes.
In 1990, when I was 20 years old, I came very close to being a surrogate for an out of state couple... they were offering $11k, but they were having trouble between themselves with a few other details, so I backed out.
This is good that you have decided to advertise yourself. I have had my first surrogacy in Kiev, Ukraine. And now I am thinking of having the second surrogacy procedure probably in South Africa. So with going through with what you provide. I decided to get more information concerning surrogacy in South Africa. Only uncompensated surrogacy is permitted. Although reimbursement for pregnancy-related expenses is required. Additionally, the couple must be legally married and there must be a signed agreement by all parties and the surrogate must become pregnant within 18 months of the signed agreement. All parties should be living in South Africa at the signing of the agreement. And a court in the jurisdiction where the surrogate mother is residing must confirm the agreement. In addition, complete confidentiality must be maintained regarding the best online casino identity of the child born from this agreement.
What is it called then when a blood relative carries your child as a surrogate? Because I have seen many families use a relative, the grandma, or a sister.
The thing about being a surrogate is that sometimes you get attached to the baby because it’s growing inside of you and feel connected to it then you remember it’s not yours which sucks especially when the baby is born you hold it and you get attached which sucks about being a surrogate sometimes
I'm 36weeks rn but I think I'm scarred.. yes scarred as in terrified to be pregnant again. This whole pregnancy has been a nightmare for me. I wouldn't change it for anything tho
Surrogate moms are paradise sent. Such kind hearts. Some of the time you can simply embrace however. Appears they simply needed an American. Surrogacy in the US is very costly. Also that there are as yet numerous lawful issues. I lean toward it in my nation as a result of Reasonable costs. No legitimate issues

Oh dear! I was diagnosed with pcos too but I still got pregnant! Currently am 8w 4d so 31days left to see my little peanut! 😍 I hope you will be able to get pregnant and experience the Joy's and suffering (haha) of a positive pregnancy test through the nausea, vomiting, fatigue all the way to the birth of your happy and healthy baby!
zwnurse2013 yes but they will have to choose later on as China does not allow dual citizenship. It’s more complicated than that. I’ve had a friend be forced back into taking her Chinese one and giving up USA just so she can get her job and be with her family all the time and not having to pay.
may I know if chineese government check? I'm from Malaysia and our government also does not allow dual citizenship, but they don't check your passport. My friend was born in Michigan and use his US passport to go back to US for university. He has both passport.
I feel like once I have had all of my own children I would love to be a surrogate to at least one family and give them the gift of a child... that is assuming I can actually have kids in the first place
First time she was paid 25k, the second time 37.5k. She doesn't know how to negotiate. Actually for a foreigner couple, like Chinese, you can ask for 100-150k USD. It is still very cheap in a Chinese middle class couple's eyes. It is an acceptable price in China. The biological mom can continue to get paycheck and her career won't be compromised during the surrogate pregnancy. not to mention the child was born with an American citizenship automatically. People would like to pay more for that. 25k or 37.5k is too cheap. I suppose the large part of the payment must have been taken by the middleman.
This video is one of my favorite ones in RU-vid. It goes to show a lot of things. First of all the world that infertile people live in. Just like me and my wife... We have been through a lot of shit! The worst of all is the judgement you get. You cannot believe what we have been through. Things got worse when people found out that we are doing surrogacy. We used to be called evil. I remember during that time the only place I felt home was at my clinic, Biotexcom... I am so happy that I found a clinic and went for it. This girl is an angel. Just like the angel that brought Angela to life... Keep up the good work dear. You are making a lot of people happy! God bless you!
Maybe when I’m 30 I might have a child but My opinions on having a child would be adoption or hiring a surrogate because even tho I could probably have kids I just don’t feel comfortable squeezing out a baby
Omg it's cristal she has a RU-vid channel and she adopted two teenagers this year and she was also a surrogate this year again. She was up to adopt a little boy but didn't happen unfortunately. These children are so big now! Some facts she adopted the baby of one of her foster children's sister's to keep them close as the young girl has a mental disability, these two young ladies now live together and crystal has the baby named Aurora who also got the mental disability and her bio mum gets to see her so many times they have a great bond!
Brendle L Most likely they end up accepting it as part of their lives. Some choose to meet their surrogate mothers and some would consider them as another parent if the circumstances are alright.
Well, yes! This case is really an amazing example for all of us. We are also going for surrogacy this week at Biotexcom center in Kiev. They have arranged a European surrogate for us, which is really fine for us. So, yeah! That's how it works! Anyway! Thanks for bringing the story to us.
If i could be a person who could do that for people, i would. I cant, because even though im young, my body isnt. I have one son of my own and if we want another baby, we plan to adopt. I myself was adopted. My parents couldnt have kids, so they adopted me. If i could give people the gift of a baby to someone that couldnt have their own, it would make me so happy. But yeah i cant. I had a hard time just with my own.
I had 3 of my own and carried two as a surrogate for two different families! One couple is from Germany. They are now 11 and 13 now, both boys. It was an amazing experience and I am so happy to see these two boys grow up!
I'm probably gonna have to do this for college money plus I'll be helping another couple out I'm just worried they won't want an 18 year old girl carrying a baby
I saw an ad before and it was looking for women age 21-39 Probably since most younger women are not as mentally mature as a 25 year old would be. Not only that but sometimes the mothers have that "I don't want to give this child, it's mine, I am taking you to court even though I signed a form giving up rights to it" and then they have to deal with that. I feel like when you are younger you are more unstable with your feelings and knowing how to control them unlike when you get older and are more experienced. That or due to most younger teen adults (18-19) want to party and still enjoy being young, they don't want to be stuck at home, they want to go out and do things, have sex with different people, experiment and so on.
