Winter is cold and dark and long and I just couldn't manage the motivation to film. But with the return of the sun and warm weather comes the return of my energy! Let's catch up on what you might have missed this winter (if you follow me on Facebook this might not be new for you!) and what's to come in the near future!

Your goats are super cute and very friendly by the looks! That compost soil looks great! It is great to have people to show us how to do all the processing. We need to get better protection for our chooks. Our dog is very protective of our property too.

For next winter you might want to consider a SAD (seasonal affective disorder) it has been a real help in our family

You should get a couple of guinea hens to put in with your chickens they are loud, but they will sound the alarm when there predators such as hawks around

Glad you are back. Please don't get overextended with the goats - a functioning kitchen should be top priority right now and getting a garden in. You will always have a chance to get one more amazing goat. Prioritize. I remember what it was like to work for 10+ sometimes hours a day plus raise a family and a large garden and it was exhausting. You are truly on a tight budget, unlike some other RU-vid homesteaders, so lead with your head right now. You have so much potential joy already ahead of you - enjoy it. The puppy is adorable.

I saw a show where they built a chicken run around the perimeter of their garden. The wire had large enough holes for insects to get through and the chickens ate most of the insects before they got to the garden. The chickens were out all day then locked up at night

That might have been Living Traditions Homestead!!! Once I have the garden fully built out I definitely want to build a "chicken most" like theirs! Duel purpose because not only does it give the chickens a safe space and keep them out of the garden, but it also prevents deer from getting into the garden as well! They have really poor depth perception so they won't jump a double fence 5-6 feet apart

Good to you again😊 I'm really happy to see your joy. Congratulations 👏 I'm not an expert personally but I would like to caution you. I heard how hard you worked to find a livestock guardian dog for their character of being a guardian. And I just want to put the word out not to dampen any of your joy. That you please be very cautious to make certain that you treat your guardian dog like a guardian and not a pet. Otherwise you're going to have another pet and not a guardian.

Our chickens free range during the day if we're home and then they put themselves to bed at dusk

We have had the same issue with a fox. He has claimed 5 chickens past couple months. I hate keeping my girls locked up. 😢

Seems like the fox only comes early in the morning and avoid the area after that because of all the dogs around. My neighbors heeler runs loose all day, plus my other neighbors dog on his invisible fence collar, one of my dogs on her run and my Anatolian Shepherd pup following me around makes it an uncomfortable place to be after the sun's really up! So the girls free range during the day now. But I'm going to be making them a large run covered with bird netting to keep them contained but safe while they still feel like they can free range a bit
