Aw- Dani! I spent an hour holding the pressure on my fillies legs while hubby rushed to get medical supplies. It was a holiday weekend and we were doing her hooves and she kicked a metal barrel cutting the back of her leg just above the hoof. I ripped off my shirt an put a pressure bandage on it. It got her tendons on one side so her hoof would splay forward. We stopped the bleeding and made her a splint. It healed, eventually we were able to remove the splint. She does still have a limp and her hoof grows a big long toe- but it came out well. Also will remember to add "edges of metal garden beds" to the dangerous items in our next homestead saftey video!

Yeah! The raised beds I got from Olle Gardens came with a thick edging material to cover them! Not so with the Amazon cheapie bed! :(

Oh it became my chicken coop after all! 😍 But I'm actually about to build the chickens a new separate coop (2 of them actually, and splitting the flock). Then I'm going to knock down the wall between the goat barn and the coop, and totally enclosed the coop, effectively doubling my goat barn space to accommodate the new does and the babies they will have in spring!

I just found your channel from Breaking New Roots. I thought the mobile I bought needed work, yours seems to need even more. Im doing the same, bought raw land from state tax auction for dirt cheap (seriously I paid more for a TV than I did for the land) then bought a used mobile home and slowly gutting and renovating it down to the studs all while also creating a homestead. Its a lot of work but its 100% mine and no one can ever tell me to move again!

I first saw you on the Breaking New Roots & luved your energy & how you over came the harsh obstacles in your life. So I came here & subscribed. This is the 1st video I'm watching on your channel and I'm barely 1/2 way thru and experiencing a terrible bout of "motion sickness" bcos you're spinning the camera around, back & forth at such a fast speed. I hate vomiting. I don't know if I can finish watching this video. I'll have to use the mini screen & pointer to see how this video ends. I hope in your future videos you keep in mind that there are "millions" of people who suffer from "motion sickness" and that you try to avoid moving the camera around so much, otherwise I will have to unsubscribe. Your a very "bright & intelligent" young lady. I would luv to follow your journey. You are an inspiration to all. God Bless You & your children & keep you all healthy and safe. That's almost exactly the kind of shape our mobile home was in 8 years ago when we bought our place. Also was told it was condemned. .. Jumped in feet first. It had sat for 2 years before we got it.. Had the water turned on... nothing leaked.. Not major anyway... Turned the power r on , nothing smoked.. not right away anyway... FF 8 years we've made it cozy. It's still a work in progress tho.. We are retired/disabled so things are moving slow. Anyway.. Good for you, how far you've come !

I had a plumber come in to hook up everything in the bathroom and an electrician to make sure everything was safe! But beyond that I'm saving now to put in the heating system. Last year we made do with the ancient wood stove but it was chilly whenever we weren't home and then you have to get the place up to temp again. So hopefully we can gather enough for the propane heater and I'll be ready to take on the next stage in the kitchen renovation! Getting the water run to the kitchen sink would be an amazing change for the better!

I know this comments probably a year old after that you're working on your home, what thought is you can get a used mobile home off from a mobile home seller that did use trade-ins on new homes maybe they have one that's in to bad of a shape they can't sell it and he would donate it to you and you just have to pay for the delivery and set up just a thought.
@WickedAwesomeGardening
@WickedAwesomeGardening 20 часов назад
I did look into that when I first bought the place, but the cost to do the renovations and the cost of the site work to prep for a new home were about even. And then I had the cost to demo and remove the old home in top. So I'm making do for now! But once the land is all paid off and I have a chance to save for a while, I'm going to look at building a traditional stick built or at least modular home here! Failing that, then I'll look for a new mobile home to replace it. :)

I'm here from your reecent tour video on Breaking New Roots. You said that your soil isn't good and you have to bring in soil. Look into Ruth Stout method or the Back to Eden method. They help you build your own soil using wood chips or hay. I do a combo where I put down a thick layer of woodchips to kill the grass and hopefully build soil on our clay yard. I let my chickens have access to it and they mix it up, poop in it, eat the bugs, etc. That should get it ready for next years planting. I also throw all the chicken/sheep bedding in it. I leave it in piles and the chickens love to scratch through it and mix up the wood chips and straw. You could do this to your place as well. You can also throw moldy hay and grass clippings in there.
@WickedAwesomeGardening
@WickedAwesomeGardening 19 часов назад
Yes! I very much want to do this but I've been having the hardest time finding a tee company that needs a place to drop their chips and ChipDrop hasn't worked yet despite a year on the list! I'm having a bunch of cherry trees taken down at some point, and they will chip the branches and tops for me and dump them in the future garden area!

I saw a show where they built a chicken run around the perimeter of their garden. The wire had large enough holes for insects to get through and the chickens ate most of the insects before they got to the garden. The chickens were out all day then locked up at night
@WickedAwesomeGardening
@WickedAwesomeGardening 19 часов назад
That might have been Living Traditions Homestead!!! Once I have the garden fully built out I definitely want to build a "chicken most" like theirs! Duel purpose because not only does it give the chickens a safe space and keep them out of the garden, but it also prevents deer from getting into the garden as well! They have really poor depth perception so they won't jump a double fence 5-6 feet apart

We have had the same issue with a fox. He has claimed 5 chickens past couple months. I hate keeping my girls locked up. 😢
@WickedAwesomeGardening
@WickedAwesomeGardening 5 часов назад
Seems like the fox only comes early in the morning and avoid the area after that because of all the dogs around. My neighbors heeler runs loose all day, plus my other neighbors dog on his invisible fence collar, one of my dogs on her run and my Anatolian Shepherd pup following me around makes it an uncomfortable place to be after the sun's really up! So the girls free range during the day now. But I'm going to be making them a large run covered with bird netting to keep them contained but safe while they still feel like they can free range a bit
@kathrynjones5858
@kathrynjones5858 3 дня назад
Goat barn. Goats are living creatures. They need protection from weather and potential predators first. This is a proven premise. Pioneers would build their barn to protect their animals then build their homes to protect the family. Plus there is so much limited sunlight, your plants will become leggy and weak. No there are so many options for purchase or easy builds that will protect your needs and enhance your plans. Remember animals first, you second, plants third. You can replant much cheaper than replace your goats. When storing your feed, think metal with lids not plastic. Everything will chew through plastic for an easy meal.
@WickedAwesomeGardening
@WickedAwesomeGardening 5 часов назад
Yeah, this was from a year ago! :) The sturdy shed that I thought would be the chicken coop ended up being the goat barn. Kept them cozy and warm all winter! The half shed I partially enclosed to make a coop, then covered the rest in hardware cloth for a secure run! Its worked well, but now I need more barn space for the goats and the chickens are getting in my way when I'm trying to do goat chores. I'm planning to build a new chicken coop and run, and expand the goat barn into the current chicken coop since they are only a couple inches apart with a connected roof already.
@WickedAwesomeGardening
@WickedAwesomeGardening 5 часов назад
I don't know why people would assume that just because I was trying to figure out the best use for the structures though that I just wouldn't be providing shelter to the other animals though... Your resilience in the face of your past difficulties is quite energizing. I didn't realize the original post was from a year ago when I responded.
