But this is the ENDING theme, Gianluca!!! Love it myself, but it doesnt open like this!!! The opening theme starts with music, then Bowie comes in, right? I like this one with his voice alone better, myself. But yeah, they are all part of the same song for sure, lol
Having just watched it, I wouldn't say Masterpiece, but I would say good solid movie. This is one of those Artsy character piece films that is created to have no real answer but operate by dream logic to allow each viewer his or her own interpretation. I would give this a solid 3 out of 4 personally.
@@carloscoentro564 thanks! I can't believe how many years have gone by, but Im lucky to still be here myself. Saw the film "brand new" at the Avon Cinemas in Providence, RI, in 1997 with the then love of my life. She is long, long gone, but we were young, and perhaps things would be different with the wisdom that comes with living. Nonetheless, time marches on, what is in the past is in the past, and I am happy now. But what a time that was. It was a time that can never be again, and I do silently miss those times once and a while.
David Lynch said in an interview that when he heard this song (which was not written specifically for the movie) he envisioned this scene in the movie and that was the start of Lost Highway.
Love the song, but one of the more frustrating movies I have ever seen, and Mulholland Drive is one of my favourite movies of all time. This one was just to abstract for me to latch on to.
I agree. I was too young when it came out to properly appreciate it. I was older when Mulholland Drive came out and instantly regarded it as a masterpiece and Lynch’s magnum opus. Over time and rewatches, I’ve come to regard Lost Highway as his best work.
Such mystery. That’s exactly what led me to pursue this music. I was already a fan of Bowie, and this little gem is just another example of the artistry of his entire career. RIP.
@Patriots Vote Democrat I hope Brian Froud will be designing the creatures like he did for the first film (& The Dark Crystal) It's just a shame that 'The Dark Crystal' II never got made.
Love the chaotic piano chords, Bowie's haunting voice, and how this song paints a picture of a murder mystery, a serial killer's mind, spilled wine on carpet, shattered glass, driving for hours on a lost highway......
harlequinforest777 I also love how it paints the picture of a weird looking old man who's inside your house right now talking to you on the phone, even though he just passed you the phone at a party miles away.
+Alessandro Mello ...and hundreds of people walked out of those shows. The album was a commercial flop compared to most of his other work. It is extremely underrated. Most reviewers, including Rolling Stone, gave it 3/5 stars. I think it was the best damn thing he ever did.
You understand what your saying right? David bowie as well as this lynch, starman fallen to earth? Your talking about satan. Satan is the original fallen starman. This movie is also all about a deal with the devil and temptation or jealousy. Bitten the forbidden fruit, you will never have me. All these hollywood artsy types are pagan luciferian kabalhic sickos , none of this is righteous in any way, best it could be is a cautionary tale. But they know what it will do to the weak minded, better watch what you fall for pal, you seem simple
@Igor Hsk Nope, Eno is just a co-producer on this track. Moreover, he told in his 1995 diary he didn't think this track had good composition and didn't like it much. One of few points where i seriously disagree with Brian :D
@@nocturnalme3549 You understand that you tell the tales from inside your head, right? You may do a Hollywood movie out of it, think this could even be commercially good, go strait ahead, please.
I remember listening to this song plenty of times when I was a teen. It gave me this insight into my soul (or mind) and emotions that I could never fully understand. Sadness, guilt, sorrow but also feeling free and wild
This film confused people when first released, but remains my favourite of his work: the images, the lighting, the songs are effective monuments to the unusual. And there's that great title song.
Lynch's films had always polorize the critics. Since Eraserhead on. In that way every his movie is underrated. Most praised critics consensus received The Elephant Man and The Straight Story, these are also his most touching and compassionate movies. Every other his movie is mixed trip of emotions which baffles you and challenges you from the start.
To this very day, the hypnotic, "I'm Deranged" remains my all-time favourite song by David Bowie. And that is not simply because it was the very first song which introduced me to the late great chameleon of the music industry... ...With it's relentless beats, sweeping piano melodies & the delicate precision of Bowie's vocal delivery, "I'm Deranged" is a bewildering ride across an Industrial-tinged soundscape... ...And from the first moment he sings ("FUNNY HOW SECRETS TRAVEL...") Bowie's voice hangs in the air, haunting the listener like an inner-demon speaking directly to it's host (Bowie's narrator, from whom we live vicariously). It should also be noted that "I'm Deranged" is actually a companion piece to Bowie's 1979 song "Look Back In Anger". If not musically then definetly lyrically! Bowie himself often performed both songs back to back at live shows to solidify their relationship as siblings.
They haven't made music like this for a very, very long time. And likely never will again. The legends are either retired or have passed away, but their stories will live forever.
Funny how secrets travel I'd start to believe if I were to bleed Thin skies, the man chains his hands held high Cruise me blond, cruise me babe A blond belief beyond, beyond, beyond No return, no return I'm deranged Deranged down, down, down I'm deranged down, down, down So cruise me babe, cruise me baby And the rain sets in It's the angel man I'm deranged Cruise me, cruise me, cruise me baby The clutch of life And the fist of love Over your head Big deal Salaam Be real deranged Salaam Before we reel I'm deranged And the rain sets in It's the angel man I'm deranged And the rain sets in It's the angel man I'm deranged And the rain sets in It's the angel man I'm deranged Cruise me, cruise me, cruise me baby I'm deranged And the rain sets in It's the angel man
When I first saw Lost Highway I felt lonely and depressed afterward. Then I started listening to this song over and over and I realized Lynch made me feel exactly what I was fucking supposed to feel....deranged, lost on the Highway of Life. Music IS the soothing salve on the Lost Highway...you get it?
one of my favorite Bowie songs! Thank you, David, making this world a better place while you were here and leaving us such amazing music to be enjoyed for generations. RIP STARMAN
I watched this film a few months ago for the first time in years. Still one of my favorite Lynch films, with arguably my favorite soundtrack of the 90s. I just wish other witnessed this movie more when it was first released.
What a song! Bowie was an incredible artist. It's interesting to recognize at 01:41 a vocal technique that Bjork uses a lot and notice from whom she may have be inspired by.
Thanks God! That you give us an opportunity to watch such a Masterpiece! Thank you Mr. Bowie , thank You Mr. Lynch for giving us the example to avoid ( or not to avoid) evil, und giving us a stir of hope! Bless you all!
Saw it with my cousin, alone, only us two in the theatre, to this day this song haunts so fantastic, DB sings lovely and the drive of the tune is truly great.
Ceux qui n’ont pas vues ce film sont comme s’il n’avaient rien vue dans les années 90 ,pour moi cela reste l’expérience la plus enrichissante possible !
Let me just say that this is one of my fave Bowie songs of all time....When Lost Highway was out, I found a way to sneak into the movie theater (numerous times) to watch the great Lynch classico but not to a lesser bit to listen to this song !
An amazing song from an amazing movie!!!David Lynch is such a good director. Many people believe that his movies are difficult to be explained, but this is his style! This song is perfect to be played while driving!!!
Agreed, I can't wait for his next film when ever that may be..his films get under my skin and I love it! INLAND EMPIRE is my favourite so far, I think- I often change my mind on this.
+Buck Tanzi You are correct. Sunday January 10th. I'll never forget when CNN announced his passing @ approximately 11:23 pm. I was shocked because he had put out the Blackstar album officially released that Friday the 8th (his birthday).
